Ext 4 is best, its faster and uses journaling. I use fat with link2sd though, purely for convience.

Well, like I said... 5 minutes of searching. At least it's a start.
Regarding ext 2 / 3 / 4 -> 4 is the best in regards to pure read write speed and I think it was only the older ROMs that had issues with it (don't quote me on this though ) so it should work fine.
Also, and you sound like you would know this already, you can only get an ext 4 reader for windows at the moment. The format is not writeable at the moment. I use EXT2FSD when I am on a windows machine.
thanks and yh I would search but couldn't work out how to on tapatalk lol I ain't no noob and have had ext in windows before
thanks again
2 more questions
1 why does phone take forever to boot when apps 2 ext is on.
2 I am currently in ext2 is it worth changing it to ext4?
Sorry to be impatient but i really need a answer ASAP
to the last 2 questions thanks
my phone takes more than 1:30 to boot when it only took less than 30seconds before sd-ext why is this?
Class of sd card maybe? I don't have sd-ext setup but I do have a class 10 card so I'll try test over the weekend, if that's any good to you.
How many apps have you got setup to use it?
Sent from my R800i using Tapatalk
U use link2sd with a ext 4 no problems. after enabled and phone restarted it did take a while in the initial boot, nice and quick after that.
By the way I have a 16gb class 4

not sure really my class is 6 and i only have about 20 apps tbh probably less however i have recently changed to CM7 and it seems to boot instantly even with over 20 apps on sd-ext i also changed from ext2 to ext4 so perhaps that is why.

Hey, I've been following this guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1016084
I'm on Step 5 which is partitioning your SD card. My question is, do you need to do that? I am planning to get either an MIUI rom or a Cyanogen rom on my phone, so is it really nessesary?
Thanks in advance
I thing you need\nessesary\. Look recomends or something like.Sorry for my English.
Just read the requirements of the rom.... if it says you do then yes?! lol
Yeah it depends on the rom.. Just check the requirements for the one you want to use
Sent from my CM7.1 Desire using XDA Premium App
I still dont get it :/ How much do I have to partition If I want this ROM:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=957291
And for future purposes, where does it say?
Thanks :S
do not use gparted. its unnecessarily complicated. I recommend you to flash clockworkmod, or better RMD recovery (you can easily adjust the partition sizes in future) and use that. Give it 1GB EXT, 0MB Swap, the rest Fat32. If you have a smaller sdcard, 512MB EXT (thats the bare minimum for future rom usage), 0MB Swap, rest Fat32. Thats it.
Okay, I'm going to use ROM manager as it is the easiest! I'll set the ext to 512 and no partition.
Also, Do I need to wipe my SD card to do this?
And would that be fine to download MIUI XJ?
Thanks a lot for all your help, I really appreciate it
Everything will be wiped on ur sd card, so backup! For MIUI it will be enough. In the future learn how to use ADB shell - thats the real deal.
Good luck
Don't forget to hit the thanx button

I just wanted to say that for future partition changes and so, it is quicker and easier to use the recovery
I agree gparted is very easy to use. Look in the dev area for a step by step on how to use it. Using VM Player you don't even need to boot onto it.

Ok, wife has a rooted and s off desire. It had 41 mb free internal space. Installed Google+ and Adobe air. Moved air to SD and moved Google+ with titanium and link2sd. Checked internal memory down to 25 mb. So I uninstalled both the apps. I now get a reading of 32 mb not 41 mb as it was before. Why?

hi,
coz data used by those apps are still into dalvik cache.
use titanium back up to clean dalvik cache (menu/more)

It's dose, it says 2 app data not needed but to remove must donate. Is there any free apps that can do this safely?

you can wipe all dalvik via recovery is you have cwm.
Or just donate. The app is well worth it.

If I wipe all dalvik will it harm my phone in anyway?
Also done some research and found an app called A2SDGUI. looks like it can move dalvik to SD, is this a good idea and will it work on gingerbread?

Hi.
It won t harm ur phone. If you do so advice to wipe cache. Be in mind while rebooting takes much time coz rebuilding dalvik-cache.
Dunno a2sdgui could be a good idea depends ur sdcard speed. If not class10 (mean write speed 10mb/s). Dalvik is often used by system so if bad sdcard performance can reduce you rom performance.

so sdcrad writing speed = 2Mb/s
a2sd (move app 2 sd card) yes is enough
move your dalvik to you sd card no it to low (don't advice to do so)
have just look app mention a2sdgui requiered Requirements:
- ROOT
- busybox
- A2SD Darktremor Scripts V2.7.5.2 and above.
dunno if you got a custom rom (which means you got aswell a custom kernel)
if yes, have a look to system/etc/init.d folder this where script like this a based.

I need some help with increasing my internal storage;
The problem is i am a newfag and kind of no interested in any super roms with awesome tweaks etc. I just want the same 2.3.3 android htc gave us in update with old sense etc but with like a 1gb of memory for apps so what i need to do?
I tried to find something and here is what i think i need to do:
1.Security off
2. Root --> here is a question. Does a root dissapears after i do a factor reset?
3. Now i need to install some kind of custom recovery - dont rly know how
4. Install some rom????
I was reading and trying to understand the difference beetwen the apps2sd data2sd, there were some disscussions that data2sd slows your phone etc. but then someone ofc spoke that's incorrect... There is a lot of contradictions in topics so it's hard for someone new to get to know the topic well.
So know in the end i will just write once again:
I want 2.3.3 htc android from update with everything the way it was but with bigger internal storage. Is that possible?
You could use a rooted stock rom that supports a2sd:

Ok guys
I did s-off,rooted and know here's the question
What's the difference beetween the partition ext 2,3 and 4? It's related with speed or stability? ^^Do I even have an option to choose which one will I use? I have class 2 card from samsung which came with desire
I also dont exacly know which option i need to choose in my 4.0.1.4 CWM at Partition SD Card. I want like 1gb for apps
Also special thanks to MatDrOiD for quick reply
Different formatting, speed, stability etc.
ClockWorkMod is poor regarding the partitions.
Id your need good recovery, get the RMD Recovery.
Usually roms let user decide what ext he needs, but fire some there are specifications to ext 4 or ext 3.
Read rom requirements.
Swyped from SGS2.

It creates ext 3 partition. From what I saw after I flashed it.
Sent from my Marvelc using XDA
I think ppl who have no idea what something does shouldnt be allowed to repost it. This is the a2sd darktremmor script i havent looked at it but it esentialy it says to your phone that your ext partitition on sd card is part of the internal memory. If the script incloudes automaticly creating of ext3 partition that means 2 things-you wont need to partition your card yourself, you will lose all your sd card data as partititioning requiers formating sd. And kido this is not skype or IRC or whatever its forum, organize your toughts and put them in 1 post. It is nice that you are trying to do something good but in this case i think you are better of doing nothing as you might cost someone his sd card data.
Edit: Ok from what i gather it will not create ext3 partitition. However if you have ext4 it will reformat it to ext3. I might be wrong im no exper and i just took a quick look at the script.
else
Code:
echo " ERROR : No second Partition on microSD found: the ROM will most likely not work or only use app2sd";
fi;
I appreciate ur opinion but I know the developer and I know what this mod does but I understand what u are saying but if I know something works , I'm going to share it and it safe. It doesnt erase anything on ur SD card because I use it many of times.

Do you have to ext your SD card in order to put apps on to it? I don't really want to partition my SD card tho!!
Sent from my HTC Desire using xda app-developers app
most custom roms require an ext partition to work, read the first post requirements for each rom, I'm assuming you're already rooted?
i don't know why you don't want to partition your sd card though...it's not very difficult. use gparted or 4ext recovery only (NOT minitool partition wizard, rom manager or clockworkmod recovery). search for guides.
you may need to flash a different script to move apps to sd-ext, but again this depends on the rom as many have it built in.

oh didn't realise the situation. how about 4, 8 or 16gb as compromise? i'm holding off a 32gb myself until they become much cheaper.
or try dgb rom as i think it's designed on purpose without an ext partition. you would need to be s-off with custom hboot to make the most of it.
Yes maybe and I am already running a ROM which is alright for the moment but I really want runny ROM but obviously that needs an ext. I am running hiapk sensefun ROM by djroobs which I am happy with at the moment. I will probably wait until they become cheaper as well

Yh ul need a bigger sdcard for runny rom, it needs 1gb ext 4 partition on ur sdcard and the rom itself from what i remember is 500mb (its huge)
Like eddie says, Even if u try get ur parents to buy ya a 4gb sdcard, they cheap enough and 4gb is plenty if u ask me

Yep, I ran Oxygen for a long time with a small 2 gb card and it worked just fine. To be fair 4, 8 are now dead cheap and it will allow you to run the heavier roms that need 1gb ext.

Hey guys, I am hoping someone, anyone at this point can help me with this issue and question. I have a 64gb Scan Disk SDXC External SD Card that I formatted to Fat32 when I first got it.
Everything was good, up until last week when I decided to return to stock and reroot becuase I was having some other unrelated issues. Anyway when I did, I decided to format the Ext SD Card in android on the phone.
Now to my problem, Now my Ext SD Card will not mount in any AOSP 4.2.2 Rom, however WILL mount in TWRP and CleanRom and TW.
SO did formating the SD Card via the phone in settings make me lose Fat32?? If that is the case then why will it still mount in TW and TWRP?
When I try to mount in a AOSP Rom it just tries to mount and says preparing and then doesn't.
