[Q] How to Root FD24

I upgraded my phone to the official FD24 ROM. I did not root before I did this. I am very new to rooting Android and need to be walked through it. Can someone point me to this walkthrough and the files I will need to only root my phone? I do not want custom ROM's etc, just root access.

Fd24 is not official. Its a leak. We've had like 6 updated ones since then. Check dev section for most recent stock rooted rom. I believe its fe22.
Keep in mind that that is also a leak. We do not have official ics yet. I'm on my phone and do t know how to link you to the proper thread from here. Like I said, just look in the dev section for stock rooted fe22

If you're on FD24 I would imagine you're already rooted. How did you get on FD24?

I don't know, I found some walkthrough video that walked me through it?
How can I confirm if its rooted now? According to the video the ROM was the stock ROM that was leaked, no tweaks or anything?

Check your app drawer. Is superuser in there?

Its the most current stock leak and will get you rooted. Read through it a few times before you do anything.

Sextape has a very good source. He gave us several ICS tar leaks on the Epic Touch ( this part edited for wrong information) but yeah I flashed several of the stock ICS tars he leaked on my ET4G....edit..if you are headed to Dallas you may want to wait and see how the radio you have works first

ok i apparently am the only idiot who cant flash this stuff. flashed both in fastboot properly and i have fg01 on lte yet no matter what i do cdma stays fd02. we have confirmations that both turn to fg01.. just not for me :O

Finally some clarification there. Thanks again. My friend was in Dallas last night with his GNex and S3. The GNex grabbed LTE in a certain spot but only kept it for a minute where the S3 kept the signal as he drove. Hopefully this may help

Used mobile odin to flash stock recovery then the ota. Kept root that way

Or, alternatively, just download OTA rootkeeper and it will reaply root after the update.

Hey fellas any way I could grab this from you I'm on uvalh2 with h3 rsdio and would love to try this out and would super user elite root keeper work for this? This is a radio I assume?

here you go.....dawgboy i guess u have to be complete stock including stock recovery this calls for UVALH2 this is only a little over 7 mb i assume u have to change the file name to update.zip once its on your phone then flash in stock recovery. remeber complete stock or it will fail!....enjoy:}

also make sure u have the uvalh2 radio installed like i said everything has to be from uvalh2 including kernel. before installing this very small incremental update

Thanks sarni is this some minor code that updates uvalh2 baseband or kernel just wondering and did you see any improvements? also is it ok that I asked wildchild if he could make a cwm of this, again thank you sarni for this I tried and tried to reg with samfirmware from my t999 must be browser issues and I don't have a pc.

honestly have not downloaded it im on aokp right now lol but i think op describes what this update does i think its just radio and maybe a few minor things i mean cant be much it is only 7 mb lol and i am sure wildchld is on top of it already

So my mother's non-rooted stock UVDMD5 S3 was sitting there and mobile background said update checker used 3 kb, so I checked the update checker and a 527.00 MB file started downloading. Just a heads up, is it the new download?
Edit 1 : Confirmed, this is Android 4.3 official.

Edit 2 : @DocHoliday77 has confirmed this actual OTA is ONLY for the SGH-T999..if you don't have one (you won't get the OTA) but DO NOT FLASH OR ATTEMPT TO FLASH ANY ODIN FILES!
Edit 3 : This has KNOX. Proceed at caution.
Edit 4 : have you ever been to jail? No? Me either. But if I had to picture it this update is much like it. Still to Docs leak thread or AOSP but don't touch this with a fine toothcomb if you want to root and later downgrade.

One way to find out, I suppose. I'm not currently rooted, the phone's bone-stock. Saw the download and immediately came here to see what was going on. Under 30 megs remaining.

check samfirmware...theres an update with over 800 mb

I guess that's a confirmation. Any issues? The AT&T version was riddled with problems.
Edit- Confirmed. Kernel version 3.0.31-1962493, Produced October 31.

According to Kies the update is MJC so its probably the same or similar to leak version DOC post .

Ok, something important to be aware of. From piecing information together from users around these and other forums, it appears just about everyone who had problems with the 4.3 update had updated via OTA. So if you choose to update this way, please let us know how things go. But if you do experience problems, DONT PANIC, Grab Your Towel, and start downloading the Odin flashable full firmware update.
This of course will include the T-Mobile kernel. I am 90% certain that the reason WiFi did not work with the leaked kernel is because we did not flash the full firmware update. I believe the WiFi modules needed to be built into the bootloader (likely the aboot partition to be exact). This is what I was attempting to confirm when I bricked my phone. So by flashing the full firmware/OTA update, you should have a fully working build, including WiFi if I am correct.
Aside from this, I would suggest reading through some of my posts in the leaked Rom threads. This is the same build that was leaked to us a week or so ago. Do let me know how things are going, I wish I could join you guys in the discovery phase of this "official" version, but I seriously doubt that other than the kernel working, and Knox likely being left out, it will be any different from what we have been using.
I do not see any reason you should not be able to root, but I will get an insecure kernel posted asap. As soon as my download finishes. In the meantime, if anyone wants the insecure kernel from the leaked build, it should be exactly the same one. Download here:

a root66 version will be coming soon. These have always been released within a day of us getting a new official release. Please be patient though, as I don't think mrRobinson has the S3 anymore. I will send him the download link as soon as I have it posted on my AFH account.
If he cannot get to it, i will do my best to get you guys a root66 build asap. But again, please be patient.

You know, I have to be honest....I was hoping to be wrong about the latest leak becoming our official build! Was hoping they would update one more test build first, then we would have had another kernel/modem/build......oh well! I must say that I am quite surprised they went through with our release so quickly!

oh, one more thing. if updating via ota, try Voodoo OTA Roitkeeper from the store. its worked in the past to preserve root.
and can someone pull the ota before applying it, and upload it for me please?
look in /data/fota, /data/temp, /cache/fota
its there somewhere, just cant remember for certain.

Yes he is chomping at the bit just like me. The goodies will be here very soon. I have the tar extracted and working on a stock base now and it will be odexed and deodexed. Of course they will be rooted and without knox.

Well just to state what I experienced. Would not flash with odin 1.85 just hung at getting pit. Rebooted phone and tried 3.07 and worked fine.

Restore went perfect, everything seems to work flawlessly. I am actually going to run this rom for a bit, how would you go about getting hacked hotspot on it?

I have tried every modem (1 day at a time) and seen no issues on NE2. That was on the OTA but I doubt that will make any difference.

Maybe a dumb question but would this tar work with mobile Odin. Don't have a pc at the moment and want to brick my phone. Thanks if anything I'll wait to I get home.

Not recommended due to the Bootloader changes. The S3 got a similar build and Mobile Odin didn't play nice.
