So, I cannot yet post in dev forums, because of my post count. Could someone please pass this info along to the people in phantomhacker's blazer rom forum? I'll copypasta the text of what i wanted to post there:
So I installed the rom just now, came from the starburst rom. I basically installed calks flash, then blazer, then tiff's mms theme, all before reboot. Worked flawlessly so far. Also, just wanted to say the ics keyboard will work after it updates, no need to uninstall. I'll report back if I run into any problems. Thanks to phantom, tiff, and calk. for all the hard work!
Thanks, everyone.

Just that i used a different method than the recommended one that worked and smoothed the process, and that the ics keyboard didn't need to be uninstalled as stated several times in that thread. Don't worry, I'll stop trying to be helpful. Have an awesome day.

All,
I have a question regarding what kernels are 'compatible' with various versions of CWM. The reason I ask is because the CWM threads I see are usually bundled with a specific kernel, and without finding specific info about that, I'm led to assume that there's a dependency there.
Until yesterday I was running Bubby's stock rooted kernel. FWIW this is my 'upgrade' path:
Zedo V3(Bad LOS) -> Bubby's stock pulled EB30 with root retained - Great performance, maybe 3 instances of LOS in the 2 months that I've been running it.
Perusing the dev section I saw that NoCIQ was available but required CWM to flash. A search for CWM yielded a few threads. Wanting to have a rooted, and not stock kernel, I settled on the LostKernel/CWM5 package. After a few hiccups getting back to no yellow triangle, etc. Things seemed to be running fine. And they still are...mostly.
The one difference is that on my way in to work this morning - I ride train that passes through several 3g/4g coverage areas so it will switch back and forth between them periodically, including a tunnel where ALL service is temporarily lost.
I noticed that when going through a small area where there is no data coverage at all(this is typical), that when I got back into a coverage area that I had complete LOS! Toggling airplane mode brought data back but to regain cell service I had to reboot my phone.
This is, again, after 2 months with virtually no LOS, travelling the same route every day. One instance is not a reason to panic but having it the first day of using a kernel that's supposed to reduce LOS has me a little concerned.
Now to the point of my babbling. What I want to know is if I would be able to put Bubby's kernel back onto my phone and still have it be compatible with the CWM5 that was installed via chris's lostkernel package?
Thanks in advance for any help.
The kernel consists of a linux kernel + an initramfs (which is basically an initial filesystem but mapped to cache memory, so technically part of the kernel)
On Samsung, the same kernel+initramfs is used for both Android and Recovery.
kernal+initramfs is what people around here call a zImage. When you flash a kernel/zImage, you get whatever recovery came in the initramfs of that kernel/zImage.
So CWM is not necessarily tied to a particular version of the kernel, you can match different versions of CWM with different kernels. However kernels (as the term is used for Samsung phones) do come bundled with a particular recovery, so you flash the kernel you get that recovery, whether that be stock or some version of CWM.
CWM/kernel
Heya.
Lostkernel is from source. Thus it will reduce your LOS but notget rid of it. Sofar for me the only kernel with CWM that is from a stock pulled kernel that has no LOS so far for me is chris41g pulled/CWM. Sorry for not adding link but just look in development and you should see it.
Also this is the Dev.section, you should post your questions in Q&A.
Hope this helps ya.

yes that's it. Are u on ek02 or eg30? U could still use ek02 so yes that is the stock kernel with cwm. U can also over clock the stock kernel with an app called tegrak. It is a paid app in the market. I highly recommend it for overclocking stock kernels.

maybe i missed it but why do kernels have to overwrite recovery?
just seems like recovery should be untouched by anything except flashing a stock kernel or another recovery.
Yes thats the link.
He also has the same kernel with ACS recovery, I highly recomend the ACS recovery, there are a couple extra goodies in it such as pre ROM flash wipe and pre theme flash wipe, but has the same functions as CWM recovery.
Hey but as you can see I still have no thanks yet, even though every post I have done has been ta answer questions that I have had myself and read many posts to find a answer or solution.

Hey thanks Chris I luv ACS stuff. The best on XDA for the et4g.
Thanks for the responses all, certainly clears things up and gives me solace that I can swap kernels if needed.
To clarify, do I need to install the EK02 update before I flash the EK02 kernel?
Also, the EK02 update is not released yet, correct?

It's a Samsung architecture thing - kernels don't overwrite recovery, they INCLUDE recovery within the initramfs. Change the initramfs, you change the included recovery.
On other devices (including Snapdragon-based Samsungs and Tegra-based Samsungs), there is a separate recovery partition/image that has its own kernel, but not Exynos/Hummingbird based devices.

Nobody is 'ok', if you read the first few posts, you'll see that I get 'reprimanded' point made, and taken. Now besides that does that mean that the thread can't be responded to and the help given? Does that make the thread non worthy of a response? I'd move it if I could. Should I go create the same thread in Q&A and start over?

I can't believe more people aren't recommending it. Anyhow, got a thanks from me for the same reason. Chris, I am wondering if people are hesitating because they think they wont get the same performance as they do on your stock repacked with CWM5. The performance is as good with the great recovery

EK02 modem/kernel
No youdo not have to flash the EK02 update to flash the kernel. You can flash the kernel first. Actually you can flash in any order. Kernel/modem/update. I sofar have EK02 kernel and modem installed but have not flashed the ROM update yet.
Also this is not a official release from sammy yet. But have it from good sources that this will be the final build they will release soon.

Im sure this will be moved to the Q&A, So chill.
First of all I would like to than all the amazing devs in this community because without them we wouldn't have all this fun.
I'm not taking credit for anything but putting this together.
The idea was to make transition from GB (or any other ICS build) to FC06 as easy as possible.
This rom is based on Calkulin's stock rooted deodexed FC06 and he deserves all credit for it.
The status bar icons and some other colors and looks are from Tiffan84 and she should be credited for that.
Kernel comes from Team Rogue and credit and our thanks goes to them.
Calculin's format all script is incorporated in updater script as well.
It's very hard to keep up with all this leaks and updates but I decided to give it a shot with FC06.
I tried to combine everything in one place and added some build.prop tweaks for battery life, smoothness and speed.
Running this rom for about a day and so far so good.
I'm not posting any screenies since it's pretty much stock look.
Build prop has been tweaked for
*deeper sleep for battery save.
*net.tcp's for faster 3G
*proximity sensors for less black screen after call
*telephony for faster call
*tweaks for overall responsiveness
and some more.
So instead of flashing FC06 in 3-4 steps this will flash it in one.
I have tested it and flashed over EL27, FE21, and FC05.
Just place rom into root of your sd card and flash in recovery.
Script will:
1. Format all (data, cache, boot, system).
2. Flash Rom.
3. Flash Kernel.
Just reboot and enjoy.
Here is the link for brave ones (since you don't know me and my previous work):
http://dev-host.org/SQz
You would need to flash modem separately. I have tried to incorporate that into script as well but it didn't work. If some one can give me a hand with that that would be great but for now you can download modem zip file from here:
http://www.buildarom.com/E4GT/Modems/E4GT_Modem_FC05.zip thanks to Calkulin as well.
Flash modem after you flash rom and you should be good.
All known bugs are still present and I didn't discover any new ones.
Any feed back and/or bug report is greatly appreciated.
Edit: If you would like to go back to your previos build/settings you can restore Nand back up.
It works for any back up made using CWM recovery. Has been tested by me. For more info read post #28 on page 3 of this thread.

Hope this will be handy for those who is confused with all the steps they gotta take to flash ICS over GB.
I made something similar for transition from 2.1 to 2.2 on samsung moment and it was very popular and had a lot of downloads.
So I thought this might be useful here as well.

At this moment there not many known bugs.
GPS is gettings stack sometimes but reboot takes care of it.
Mail exchange is hit and miss.
Some people having camera issues but it's not common.
That's pretty much it for now on FC06 build.

It just updates on first start and it's working fine after that.
Just want to say your concept is definitely needed up in the forum and I am surprised I have not seen more posts up in your thread but I think do to the current amount of individuals unfortunately bricking their phones many may be worried.
May I suggest to those of you who do use this and have successfully used this method, to kindly list what GB/ICS rom/recovery you were coming from when using this.
It will help ease the fear of others in here...

Anybody having a problem with their E4GT using Mijjah74z THE GOODNESS ROM v2.0 where the phone will just randomly performs a soft reboot? It comes right back but it has happened to me twice today. I did a fresh (wiped all and calks format all) then flashed the rom and FC07 modem then rebooted. I have not observed any performance issues with it. I love this ROM and all the work Team Nocturnal has done for this community on our phones!!
edit: this happened about 16 hours after install of ROM and modem. Up till then all was well!

But to answer your question it is a known issue and Nocturnal is working on it. They are currently testing a version 2.1 for release later tonight that should fix it.
Im running a fd26 build, and honestly even going over the wiki and stuff im still a bit confuddled, i saw recently that fe16 come up but not under the rom section, it was under the modem section. I guess im asking does it work its way to being ROM'd after having some development time or was the fe16 just a modem update and not an entire ROM update? Anyone who can decypher my gibberish i give kuddos to.
fe16 is a date. The date at which the rom, kernal, and modem were released.
In the development section there is a thread that has the stock fe16 update, which will update rom kernal and modem.

The only stupid question is the unasked one.
I'm unsure exactly on the odex deodex but I believe one can be themed and the other can't. (<---- doing some research now, apparently this isn't necessarily true) There are probably other differences but hopefully someone with more knowledge will chime in.
Found this in an article on XDA. (Yes I know it says for Eee Pad Transformer but assumed the answer applies in general.)
http://www.xda-developers.com/andro...-best-of-both-worlds-for-eee-pad-transformer/
The deodex vs odex debate is nearly as old as Android itself. While deodex allows for customization, odex typically wins the performance race and no one can be really sure which one is better.

I am not a dev at all just a flash junkie. I would read up on "FULL RESTORE ROOTED EL29" you can search the for the forum in the development section. Check out all of the roms and just ask questions. One you are rooted its pretty simple if you follow directions well. I'm running Dazed and Confused romantic now but I switched between him and Mijjz roms like his Goodness rom, he has a ton of roms and all of these are themed already.

Just a tip
I would also recommend watching some of QBKing77's youtube videos as well if you have never flashed a Rom before. He pretty much goes step by step through the entire process. He has videos that show you how to root, how to install clockwork mod and then videos on how to install many of the Roms that you will find in the development section as well as reviews for each. QBKing77 was pretty much invaluable to me when I was getting started myself. Thanks to him and following the advice to read through the development section over and over before I started I've stayed brick free and flashed most of the ICS Roms safely.
