I have 2 different EK02 kernel repacks.
One with ACSRecovery5, and one with CWM5.
Same as before, stock untouched kernel, repacked with your choice of recoveries.
init.d support is included..

Hey Chris, when I tried this kernel last night, the factory reset option did nothing, it just went back to the main menu.(your CWM repacked one works fine tho). Also, is init.d support ever going to be added back?
EDIT: One more note, is it possible to enable the back option by default again since power is now enter by default on this recovery? Makes navigating through the recovery so much quicker than having to use the back button at the bottom of the phone

So what's the word on CIQ here? There's 5 different EK02 ROMs posted but I've yet to see anything stating if they contain CIQ and if it's been removed.
a. this is not a rom
b. CIQ is in all of them

I did not think I was confused about this until I saw this post. I thought that CIQ was in the ROM? If we are running a ROM with CIQ removed and we flash one of these repacked kernels and recoveries, it does not put CIQ back onto our phone correct?
Sorry in advance for the newb question.

not neccesarily true.. but it is disabled via the rom, so if you have removed it from the rom you are fine, the kernel will not put it back
but there are bits of it in the kernel

Even though you generally do not need to wipe anything when flashing kernels, whenever I flash through CWM, I always wipe dalvik and cache a couple times.
With ODIN, I have never wiped anything when flashing as I don't go into CWM at all when using ODIN. I just go straight into download mode. I have used ODIN more than CWM and have NEVER had any issues... Until now.
The weird part - When I have the bootloops and go back into CWM to restore my backup, I have the new ACS recovery installed.
Any ideas?

I was just reading through another thread and had an idea as to why this may not be working. Maybe someone can confirm? I have a theme installed that has the AIO lockmod built in. I know that mod messes with framework.res right? Could that have anything to do with my issues?
I might be able to mess with that tonight if that is the case but would prefer not to spend my time messing with it if that is definitely not causing anything to wrong.

i am slightly confused. maybe i'm not understanding this answer.
i had caulks 1.5a installed and then did a full system wipe (caulks wipe) and then installed the new ek02 that caulk posted. does this mean i have ciq or not?
is there a way to check?
thanks in advance
You have ciq, There is no ciq hack yet for 2.3.6
Edit: I stand corrected, Calks rom has ciq disabled
i found this (only been around since 16th of september.. cough!) to check ciq

thats a good app, checks for more than just ciq, and TReve is the guy who outed CIQ publicly (after k0nane, but more media caught on)... They even sent him a C&D and threatened to sue...

Download
IMPORTANT: Make sure you have installed the proper XP or Win7 drivers before starting. Also, remove the SD card from the phone (this may not be necessary, but having the SD card installed has caused Odin to fail for a number of people, so might as well just do it).
1. Extract the contents of the zip file to a folder
2. Open odin
3. Put your phone in download mode (Shut it off, wait for lights to all go out, then hold v-down + power)
4. connect phone (you should see odin put a Com4 or something like that in the first box. The actual number is NOT important what is important is something popped up there when you connected your device, meaning ODIN can see it)
5. The only box that should be checked is Auto Reboot.
6. You do not need to choose a pit file.
7. In the PDA Section choose the tar file. (Deodexed-Rooted-Busybox-CWM-EK02.tar)
8. Hit start. It will do its thing.
9. If it fails than try a new cable.
10. If the phone hangs for any reason take the battery and sdcard out and let it sit for an hour. Put it back together and try again.

What are the odds that overstew's ICS theme will work on this?

Edit: unfortunately The Ciano Universal Theme does not work over this. Wiped cache, dalvik, flashed theme. looked like it went through fine. rebooted from CWM but didn't get past first boot screen - pulled battery. Powered on, same thing. Went back to CWM to re-wipe and reflash(twice over itself) to try again, but same problem upon boot. oh well. There'll be plenty of options soon.

You should never flash themes, mods, roms etc that are built on different OS versions. It might appear to work but there are changes in the versions so you are basically trying to mix pieces of 2.3.4 with 2.3.6 which is a bad idea.

Odex is up now.
So I'm a bit confused on how to use this properly. I've researched the differences between odex and deodex but I'm still confused. I'm running EL13 rooted. I don't have CWM installed so I'm stock still, but rooted. I tried and odex hotspot a couple days ago and it didn't work. It froze my phone at the Galaxy SII screen. I reflashed it and now back to normal. My question is which type should I be using, odex or deodex? If I use the deodex do I remove the odex file currently on the phone? How do I clear the cache in odin?
Thanks,

Which one you use depends on the rom you have installed. Odexed or Deodexed. So if you have a stock EL13 rom installed and it doesn't specify deodexed then you are odexed. Neither of these files install via Odin. You must have a recovery to install it or you can pull the files out of the zip and manually copy them to the right directories on your phone using root explorer, adb or some other root file explorer. I would suggest installing the Rogue EL13 Stock kernel to get recovery. Than you just copy the EL13HotspotMod-Odexed.zip to your phone and flash in recovery. If you are Deodexed you download the deodex file and do the same thing. You don't clear cache in Odin. You do that in recovery. The zips do that for you so you don't need to worry about it.
So if I'm completely stock(with root, flashed with tar), no recovery, I'd use odex version. Do I have to clear the cache? If I have to clear the cache and don't what to put recovery on then I can't use this, is that correct?
Thanks for your patience and help,

Clearing the cache isn't really necessary but if you flash the zip in recovery it will clear it for you. You should Odin the Rogue EL13 Stock kernel http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=20293988&postcount=33 to get recovery. Then flash the zip.

What rom are you on? As John said a delay of a few minutes will appear after the first boot but you should get past the samsung screen to the boot screen before the delay kicks in. Odex seems touchy and dependent on the rom. I used calk's stock rooted el13 to build it.

Also I have seen people on prior versions having the same issue because of bad flashes. Download the file again or confirm the md5. Install the mod again. If it doesn't work, manually wipe cache and dalvik 3 each. Yes I know what conventional wisdom tells you but please give it a try. And please report back to let is know how it went and any details you can provide.

First off, I take no credit for this, Credit goes to TEAM AOKP, Kbizzle , T.C.P., Sbrissen, Marcusant, and anyone else involved in the AOKP port to Epic 4G Touch. Vandam500 for quick easy guide for CM9. Bubby323 for CM7. (Anyone I missed, I am sorry, let me know I will put you up asap) Also thanks to SFHub for helping get the USCC variant rooted.
I, NOR ANYONE INVOLVED WITH THIS ROM ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR PHONE! FLASH AT YOUR OWN RISK, YOU MAY BRICK AND IT IS NOT MY FAULT. THROW IT IN THE TOLIET AND INSURANCE THAT THING. Read it all, be sure you know what you are doing before you get an expensive paper weight.
I did nothing to this rom but a few edits for USCC. Made changes for APN’s, build.prop. and eri.xml to show USCC.
Download USCC AOKP rom http://dl.dropbox.com/u/44439007/AO...m.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1514665.
Download CM7 from http://forums.acsyndicate.net/showthread.php?3372-ROM-UNOFFICIAL-Cyanogenmod-7-2-Alpha-6-(1-15-2012.
Put all this on your internal sd card. For simplicity sake I make a folder called roms and then /cm7 and /aokp inside and put the appropriate files there to avoid confusion.
Recommended install
From stock flash(odin) rooted FB14 kernel from here http://dl.dropbox.com/u/44439007/FB14_CWM_Sickin.tar
wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache, and wipe dalvik
install cm7 (no need to install gapps) REBOOT
after boot reboot into cwm
flash AOKP_build28_uscc.zip and then gapps for ics
wipe data/factory reset
reboot
enjoy
*NOTE* You will not have CWM after flashing AOKP. To get back I ODIN EB30 kernel, boot into CWM, and restored back up made earlier.
Also there are still options for 4G, I do not know much about editing them and will worry about them later, for now just ignore them.
Be sure to thank and show your appreciation to everyone involved.
Sickin,
If you can, make sure to post how to put CWM on the phone, I have all the files downloaded, just waiting on getting CWM.
Flash the EB30 clockwork kernel from here http://goo-inside.me/stock/epic4gtouch/kernel/acs-eb30-clockwork-epic-touch-4g-sep-20-4-00-pm.tar
that will give you cwm and you can go from there. Didn't realize the kernel flashed on SFHub's updated version didn't have cwm. Use odin to flash the kernel and go from there, that should take care of it.
EDIT: Sorry should have specified that you need to go back to either the EB30 or the EK02 kernel from SFHub's method, do not flash the stock kernel back or you lose CWM.

I flashed this rom and kept my EL29 kernel. Does that mean in order to get this Rom and get my CWM recovery back I have to reset my phone to stock and start all over again with the EL26? Also, is the swype keyboard in the rapps, and how do i get the face unlock to work?
When you flashed Frankenstein rom, your kernel changed to the FE21 kernel included with the rom so not sure what you mean by you kept el29 kernel since that's not compatible with ICS. The reason you have stock android recovery now is because of all the bricking issues performing certain functions in custom ICS recovery so devs are leaving out custom recovery from their roms. So yes, when you want to change roms, backup, etc., you must go back to the el26 cwm kernel first and flash, backup, etc. from there. Not sure about your last two questions since I'm not using that rom. Let me know if you need anything else.

Not to sure what you mean by that. If you're saying what I think you're saying, yes you must use el26 cwm kernel whenever flashing anything ICS related or backing up or restoring. Using anything else and you risk bricking your phone.

Slick_rick is correct, as far as Swype i just sign up for the Swype beta from you phone browser to get a download for it, that way i always have it to restore with titanium so i can get Swype on any rom.

Wow... I needed this thread. I just recently went through what I thought were all the instructions to flash this rom. I had previously used the PD Odin executable routine to upgrade from Gingerbread to ICS. I saw the reviews on this rom and really liked what I saw. I used Odin 1.85 to set up CWM-El26 so I could flash this ROM. I got everything working ( I do get that yellow triangle on reboots) but I did notice the CWMod Recovery does not stay on the phone. It reverts back to the basic ICS Recovery (where I GUESS you cannot flash zip files). Now all this said... After flashing this ROM, I am still on FE16. Is there something else I am missing.
I got into rooting when I had my Dinosaur Moment, and now I have that itch again. Thanks again for all your help!

So what's wrong with your setup?

I guess I was a bit over the place. I was wondering why it wasn't keeping my CWM recovery instead of the generic one? I can deal with the yellow triangle.

Swype is in the removed apps. You have to Unknown Sources checked under device administration. You can mount your phone, add the swype.apk file to the phone, and install it using the astro file manager. I still go back and forth between swype and the stock ICS keyboard. Word prediction seems to work better in the stock.

Oh well your cwm recovery disappeared because it wasnt packed into the kernel that came with the rom you flashed. And you can get rid of the yellow triangle using a USB jig or an app called triangle away. Just Google search something like "triangle away apk+chainfire+xda" and you should be able to find it.

So how do I get cwm back. I just tried to start all the way from stock el29 and then get 26 And my phone was messing up until I put Frankenstein back on

Hey... I hit the thank button but I got the triangle away and it worked like a charm! Thanks again. Maybe they can get the CWM 5.0.2.7 to stay packaged in the ROM setups in the future!
so i tried to redo this flash with the el26 kernel. but then my phone started acting crazy, telling me that the calendar storage stopped working. finally after putting frankenstein back on my phone, it stopped coming up. the only problem im experiencing now is that i cant download pics in my text messaging. but i can use my 3g, 4g, and wifi for everything else. I dunno if this is because im in PR or because i messed something up. Please give me some feedback if you know anything
You started up with el26? That will never work with this rom. You need an ics kernel.
Sent from my GT-P7510 using xda premium
i know. but when you flash the rom it changes to ics. im saying, initially i started with the el29. QBkind77 advises to flash it after having the el26 installed, but i was too hasty.
Hmmh...i only ever do el26 never el29. I'm not sure what happened then. You are correct if you flashed the ROM it is ics. It must have been a bad flash or a bad download as well, sorry.

I'm on Blu Kuban and I am on EL29 QB King 77 said I don't really need to switch Modems?? Is that corret? One XDA member said he uses FE 22 with out issue. I am using the ICS Blu Cuban rom.

Yes, it will work with any TW ICS Rom.
---------- Post added at 09:59 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:55 AM ----------
Thanks Agat! Just an FYI, you can factory reset on this version but it still has the issue where it won't install certain apps from Play Store. Gate Guru for example. I confirmed this on 100% stock FI03 with this kernel. Gives the Couldn't install on USB storage or SD card error.

This app thing is starting to really bug me.
Just tried Gate Guru and it installed without any problems.
Can't try Where's my water (to big for download without wifi) as I know that's another app that causes problems.
I'm running my FH23 rom with FI03 repack kernel.
FI03 repack has been flashed with mobile ODIN over my 0.5.4 kernel which didn't cause any problems either.
I'm starting to think that there might be more to this problem besides kernel itself.
May be some scripts or tweaks that are included in other roms do add something to this.
Same was with FH13 and FH23 repacks. Was able to install any app while running my roms which are tweaked very little.
I don't even know now what to say or how to fix a problem since I can't recreate it on my phone.
Please any one with same problem let me know what rom are you running with it and how did you install it.
Did you guys perform full wipe or installed current rom over previous one?
Just give me as much info as you can and we will try to get to the bottom of this problem.
@Agat
Do you know if this have the app on sd missing issue?

That's the problem.
I don't have that issue.
I'll post few screenshots later.
Was able to download and install Gate Guru. Moved it to SD. Moved it back to Phone.
No problems.

Try it on my stock FI03 Rom and see if you can reproduce it. I can reproduce the problem on every version of the repacks on the stock Roms. I have only tried it on the completely stock Roms installed with a complete wipe. They have nothing but root and busybox added.
Agat,
Did you try from Stock (TW) ROM?
Think this may be the difference...

I'm usually on my roms.
Can't stand stock colors.
As mentioned above will try to run on completely stock.
Let see what happens.
I am installing the actual stock tar right now to see if it does the same thing. I want to make sure it isn't something wrong with my Rom.
Edit: Ok so I used desktop Odin to install the full stock tar provided by sextape. I let it boot completely. Booted into Odin mode and used Desktop Odin to install the repack kernel. I let it boot up again and signed into play store. Tried to install Gate Guru and received the same error message.
Will there be a mod later down the road to re-enable the touch to zoom in browser or did Samsung rip too much out to re-enable that?

That is already fixed. Download any of the updated Roms. That was only an issue with the initial zip that was leaked.

I don't know what to say now.
Flashed your rom over my FH23.
Did a full wipe.
Kernel was already installed and your rom has no kernel packed into it so I'm running repack I flashed yesterday.
Signed into google and downloaded Gate guru. No problems.
Moved to SD - No problem
Moved back to Phone - No problem.
Right now running crawrj's stock rooted rom with this repack.
I'm completely lost guys.

Can you try an ODIN repack? Maybe a permissions issue?

So, as of RIGHT now, is it safe to install this repacked kernel or do Play store downloads not work after getting Agats kernel on a completely stock FI03 setup???????
