A little lost and could use some XDA help!
My phone is Jacked, I need to take it in for repairs or replacement,
currently on Acs Ics 5.1 but I need to go stock before I take it in.
Anyone know where I can find the latest stock rom for Ei22 or Tar so I can flash with odin?
I cant seem to find it. Or Do I need to flash the Eco5 tar, which should be stock, then do a OTA from there?
All insight appreciated... need to get this done A.S.A.P as my phone is jacked up.
No external sounds whats-so-ever... no ring tones, notifications, audio, media etc... and I tried multiple roms to fix. I cant keep missing calls, notifications or unable to play my media; and keeping my headphones in non stop all day and night wont cut it. I suspect its hardware issues at this point.
Look at the sticky thread by qbking77 in the general section. All links are in the videos. If u have ec05 tar already, you can just odin this. Don't need the ota to take it in 4 repair.

There is no tar for EI22. Has not been released yet. All the tools and files you need to go to EC05 stock are here:

Thanks
Thanks both of you... Ill odin the stock EC05 tar.

I posted this in the dev Q&A, but I'm pasting it here so I can get an answer. Included is a follow up question from another user.
I apologize for the ignorance in advance.
when using using odin, when does the modem come into play? im finally going to go to dk28 from di18 because of the new ext4 support...
most guides, especially in the wiki, just instruct to use the .tar.md5 and the pit...
but a couple of posts (like ACS guide) link to the modem as well...
so what's the difference? what is the modem and when is it necessary to odin it?
do I even need to worry about it?
EDIT: I've read other posts in this thread and it SEEMS like it depends on whoever's method youre using (ACS post says modem, but whosdaman's *OFFICIAL* thread is a full .tar.md5 that includes modem data....
BUT...I still want to know what the modem actually is. I'd like an understanding of it so I could intuitively know if I have to deal with a modem in the future. Us IS guys don't like "because it says so" explanations lol. I like background info.

I'm in a very similar spot as Squshy 7. Trying to get the files I need to flash up to DK28 and try out a new ROM (probably bonsai); however, in searching through the plethora of threads dedicated to DK28 and instructions, i've found quite a few subtle variances in all of them, leaving me a little confused on exactly which files i need to download.
I'm currently on ACS' DI18 based Syndicate ROM w/ Xtreme Kernel (latest of each)
I'm not afraid of Odin, so if that's the best way, that's fine.
I just need to know what files i need for the best, cleanest, bugfree flash. I will probably be going to EXT4 as well, so that probably makes a difference.
Is the post by artemis-nyc with the dk28 + cwm redirect + root what i want? It has odex'd and deodex versions. I've also seen links to the official .rel.md5 file on the Wiki... there's also the ACS DK28 DEODEX, and there's also noobnl's ODEX'd DK28. He has the modem flash here too...
I guess my biggest problem is there is just so much info on the forum right now, with people replying on different threads, so its really hard to keep straight what is the current stuff, and what is older/buggy stuff that should probably be avoided. I might be making this harder than it is lol.
I'm inclined to think is all I need is the dk28 modem then flash whatever rom I want, following their specific instructions. Is that correct?

You flash the DK28 modem with the DI18 tar? I was under the impression that the tar's include the modem and ROM. So wouldn't the DI18 tar include the DI18 stock ROM and DI18 Modem? I'm confused why you would mix the 2 versions.
Sorry, still just trying to fully get my head around all of this
I figured out my initial question for the most part though. I flashed DK28 modem + pit, then flashed the DK28 based ROM I wanted along w/ the ext4 mod and was fine on first try.
The *Official* Stock DK28 .tar.md5 is probably the best option for a clean start though from my understanding over the last few days of researching. If you have GPS issues the Odin back to the official stock DI18, get a GPS lock, Odin DK28 modem, get GPS lock, flash DK28 ROM, verify GPS lock...
Just took me a bit to get it all sorted out with so -much- stuff to sift through to get the right info

From my understanding, the modem is the "firmware" for the radio (data, phone, etc). Someone please correct if that's not accurate.
The modem is your radio or your software to allow the hardware to connect to the towers. I would def flash the modem or the md5 file including the modem dont try to use the di18 modem with dk28 just remember flash the pit and modem after you get a lock on maps on gps, then reboot di18 with the new dk28 modem and get another lock in maps with the gps, then flash the dk28 rom and get a third and final lock on gps or you'll have to go back to di18 and start over.

Have you watched qbking77's videos on "How to return to stock"?
No, you haven't. You still can though, and I would suggest that. They are great vids and easy to follow along to. You can pause, stop, even rewind them to keep up
All kidding aside, check them out. It will get you where you want.

You might wanna try to flash eb13 and after you use odin to flash to eb13, connect to wifi and manually update your software via ota to ec05. Go to settings and click about phone then system updates and select update android. This should get you back on ec05. I had the same problem when i wanted to go back to ec05. But i gotta say the second time i flashed ef02 all my functions that didnt work previously now work flawlessly. Although i did redownload the ef02 file again so maybe my original one was a bad download...Good luck to you...Dont forget to update us....

still didnt work...and idk if its just my epic but every rom ive tried the battery is off really bad...it would take me a half an hour just to go up 3%...also i backed up my stock 2.2.1 tw and i tried restoring it but it wouldnt restore through clockwork(i have the purple cwm)it would just stay on the samsung bootloader and vibrate constantly. I would have to use another rom just to fix it...i just want to restore it back to stock with root but i have yet to sucessfully achieve that....would appreciate that i looked at the videos but none showed how to restore back to stock

U might want to go back as far as d107 or d118, their eclair versions but u could update back to froyo using ota updating. In your case I would start from the bottom and work my way back up.

where can i get the stock odib eb13
There's usually a .tar packed up with odin that is stock ec05 no root.....
The file should read something like "stock-sph-d700-odin.tar" or something along those lines
Do you want root or not because if you do still want it rooted you can just flash chris41g's stock ec05 plus rom through odin..... ill throw a link up in a few just in case......
yes please post a link i tried using samsungs tool but it dosent do crap
This might help
I don't know if you've tried this, but qbking77 has some really good videos on YouTube.
This might help:

Hi guys,
I'm running a rooted nightly CM7 build, and it's really great, however I've heard some really good things about the EL30.
I have two questions.
1. How can I get from my current build to EL30? Do I need to odin? If so can I get some links on what I need to do.
2. I forgot :S.
Thanks
Steps:
1. Find odin 1.85 it should be in the restore a bricked epic forum as well as the ec05.tar
2. Use the instructions and odin back to stock ec05, once on ec05 get on wifi and mess around till the prompt to update to ei22 comes up and install it.
3. Once on ei22 ill link you the update.zip you can flash in the stock recovery and you'll be good to go.

What possible goods things have you heard about EL30 that you don't have on CM7?
Hi all--
I've been running RandomROM for a while (Thunderhawk/v.5) for a while now and one issue it seems to have: all audio output from the speaker will just stop. notifications, ringtones, keypresses, everything. A reboot seems to clear it up. I just had the problem again and haven't been doing anything 'intensive' with the phone like use a media player or watch movies....
Can anyone recommend a way to debug this and/or get more info on what's going on? I'd ask in the RandomROM dev thread but I'm not qualified yet.
all help appreciated. thx!
After 2 years of flashing and debugging I realized it is best to Odin stock and start fresh without restoring data. This was the quickest method to get rid of a bug.
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda premium
hmm thanks but I never have done a restore of old data when doing a ROM install, I'm just lazy. I think it's easier to reinstall the apps (the ones which I actually use regularly) after the fact
more info: it isn't just the speaker. The bluetooth audio stops working, too. This is a drag, now I can't go back to Syndicate ROM easily due to the filesystem format upgrade I had to do.
Maybe it's time to see how they're doing over with CM these days (?)
if I were to Odin back to stock that would include a 'downgrade' to BML, correct?
if you Odin (or Heimdall) back to stock, it will take your phone all the way back to the way it was out of the box, bone stock (so yes, BML) Just make sure you check the repartition box when using Odin to go back to stock.
