Looking for a GPS tracker to track one of the kids haha. I know it is a little unethical but I got over that.
It would be cool to be able to track her on my phone, but I could do with a web interface need be (these things access the internet as well, right?)
It would probably need to lock or hide itself in the app drawer (I rather have it hidden.) She would probably throw a fit otherwise. I don't mind paying for the right app.
Don't lie. You're trying to sneak it onto your woman's phone. LOL. I'm interested in this too.

I could just try a bunch, but that seems like a lot of work
Doesn't sprint already have GPS tracking for anyone on their family plan?

Yup. It's their Family Locator service. $5 a month.
https://sfl.sprintpcs.com/finder-sprint-family/welcome.htm
I think any app that acts as a constant "tracker" will kill the battery in no time.
A few options come to mind; Lookout Mobile Security (extremely accurate the few times i've tested it) or Google Latitude - less accurate but can be configured using wifi+gps....

Yeah....I just hate to pay extra when there are all these awesome apps that are potentially free.
I think I have found what I am looking for though.
Family GPS Tracker
Simple interface, not really a tracker but will be fine for what I need to use it for. Best of all you can change the update frequency so the app isn't phoning home constantly and destroying the battery.
Now I just need to find a way to hide the app haha.

Sorry, tracker might be a bit of an overstatement. I don't really need tracking more so just location updating every now and then.
lookout mobile was free but i guess they have a premiuim version. 29.99 for a year. it has GPS tracking but it has to be used by logging on to their website to track, like family locator. i luckily have been using it since windows mobile days so i get the premiuim features for free
The best one I think is mobile defense and it hides itself the only thing is it sends a text when it connects so to get around that you'll need handcent sms and just blacklist the number it texts from that's how I track my girl lmao

i use google latitude, its very good and its free. it even shows a picture of where the phone's @ with the address.

latitude would be a good option if the person never opened it, lol. as soon as they do, they could turn it off, hide themselves, or just set it to a hard location ("i'm going to jessica's, dad", set's latitude for jessica's house, then is over to brad's tra la la la la)
if she had a custom ROM on her phone, you could make launcher pro the default home, then hide latitude from the app drawer. unless she's savvy, she wouldn't think about it. latitude should update.
of course, if you're going to go that way, you could use any one of several things and just hide them from the app drawer.
Safety
I would like to suggest this kind of innovative idea with regards to android phone application, in which you are able to monitor your love ones wherever they go. In addition you can use this app for your safety and protection of your family and it is the only application that has a direct access to the emergency response center. For more information please try to check their website: safekidzone.com or SafeTREC.com

I would recommend the Ninja Tracker - when my son passed his driving test I was always worrying about him so we now have one of these in his car (he knows it is there) and I often use it to check he has arrived safely at his destination etc... Also popped one in my daughters bag when we went to a music festival last year - just for peace of mind really - meant that she could have more freedom to wander off with her friends but at such a packed venue we could find her easily by logging into our interface via my iphone. Fab bit of kit at a reasonable price - company I bought it from was called Ninja Tracking Systems I think... Google them.

I use this. It also allows me to erase the contents should the enemy get my phone.
I can suggest Fameelee - Family Locator. It's a free app avaiable on Google Play and recently launched on Appstore. It allows to track realtime location of the family members as well as to check location history for the past 30 days. Within premium version you may track sms and call logs of the loved ones. It works in background so mostly end user you going to track will even didn't notice it. Hope features of this app will meet your needs
I'd like to recommend you Fameelee app, it's a free app that was recenly founded by myself on Google Play Market. Allows to track real time location of the family members, friends or whoever you wish
You can also check gps location histor for the last 30 days, get gps notification once your app member reach some specific places (you can match it on the map) and a lot of other useful features.
Hello fellow WP7 users. I was wondering whether people are getting local search results when you search on Bing (i.e., hit the search button). I live in Canada and my wife and I have the Optimus 7 and we never get local results no matter what I search. It always only has Web and News. I was under the impression from watching videos before getting the phone that WP7's integrated Bing search would give other options, like local (maybe pictures?). Anyone else having this "problem"?
I've just tried (on HTC Mozart) to search for "coffee". At first time I've got message that no local results found. After trying again, I've got some local results. The only problem, that the phone still thinks I'm in Germany (I was there couple of weeks ago, but phone still thinks I am there).

Well, at least your getting some sort of local results! But that doesn't sound very good either. I've noticed that when I hit the search button and bing pops up after a little while the name of the city where I live pops up under the voice input option accross from bing. It still doesn't give me local results, but at least it knows where I am.
Where are you located? Lithuania? I'm wondering whether it is limited to certain countries (Germany and the States for example).

Yea, I'm from Lithuania. Bing search displays "Berlin" below. Some other apps (WeatherBug for example) thinks that I'm in Berlin. It looks that the phone somehow cached my location when I was in Berlin and now it can't update it even through GSM/WiFi/GPS even I have location setting turned on.

Intresting. Under "Settings" and "find my phone" do you have "save my location periodically for better mapping" selected? I wonder if deselecting that might help. I'm not sure what "Get results faster" does.

I've just disabled this setting at "Find my phone" section. No changes so far. Bing Maps/Search still thinks I'm in Berlin. It might be a problem of me being at home currently so phone can't find my location via GPS. But as far as I understand it should be able to find me via WiFi or GSM

How is that your problem being at home? GPS should pin point your location, but I guess unless Bing does not know that there is a whole world besides USA and Western Europe, I would assume it is Bing problem because it might not have a map data for the region you are in.

I was using Bing Maps on my HD2 and it was able to display my location.
I meant it might not have the POI (points of interest) information for your location, I am trying to see it via bing maps on my PC, and I am getting
The server is temporarily unavailable. Try again later.
EDIT: but now re-thinking it, it might be the bing implementation for WP7 (since it is a completely different platform from WinMo) is not as good as on WinMo.
I live in Amish country (lancaster, pa) and local search does an awesome job for me. If i just search for "Coffee" it shows the local coffee shop as well as the usual starbucks and what not. If i search for movies it shows the local dollar theater and then other movie theaters within driving - as well as showtimes and what not. Local news search also works great.
My question is, will i be able to buy/download apps for a WP7 phone (lets say from the US[samsung focus]) in countries that don't have windows phone 7 yet?(lets say Israel)
Hard reset my phone and booted it up in airplane mode, market works just fine that way with wifi so I don't see why not.

if you can buy a windows phone there at present, then yes you shouldn't have a problem. if it isn't available there at the moment, you may have to do some dodgy things and make it think you're from US.
Works fine in Norway, but I'm not sure if I can get all programs available in the US or just a subset...Hard to tell, really
Unless the marketplace is available in that country no.
For instance, they sell WP7 phones in Sweden but they haven't launched the marketplace here yet. Which is idiotic.
You can get around it though by making a new windows live id that has the country set to a country with the marketplace available.
Check out http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=830701 for more information.
wow thats cool i just change my PC location to USA and i got my Zune Marketplace i never had before thats cool, i see the windows phone marketplace now...
is there a way i can make my pc think i have a windows phone phone conected so i can try to download free apps?
and for payed apps i have an AMEX card so i think im set.
You can download free apps if your Windows Live is set to a country with marketplace support. However, to buy apps you need to set your credit card details in Zune with an address in that country. I have a Netherlands Mastercard but put in my parents address in UK and its working great.
Hmm so I assume it will not NORMALLY work in Poland without setting another account which is set as UK?
I mean I use Hotmail for 12 years and probably it's set as polish, so...
Without this workarounds no chance?
On offical MS polish page they invite to buy 3 WP7 devices in polish stores....
So looks like official....
Any clue?

Which mastercard are you using. I have got one from ABN AMRO but it is not working. Only thing different is that I'm trying it with the US marketplace. I read somewhere it only worked a few days after launch day. I tried it btw on the zune desktop. Keep getting a error message saying that my creditcard details are wrong.
There is a service called global shop for AMEX card owners that gives u an address in the USA in Miami, so I can register to any us retail and give them the global shop Miami address that’s just cool
And as for changing the Live, takes only a sec to do and I have my account for like 5 years.
but i still wana be sure, so if any of you know of any virtual WP7, or if any one tried in a country that don't sell phones yet.
Setting up your WP7 device with a US live-id works fine, but you won't be able to buy apps without a US credit card also. Downloading free apps works fine, though, but when WP7 is launched with all services and the marketplace in your own country you will have to reset your device and set it up again with a local live-id to use these. Any apps downloaded from the US marketplace will then be lost.

So all that makes buying a WP7 device NOW nonsense.
Whether you don't have access to all the features or you're screwed later....
Discouraging.
at present, perhaps, but i think over time as they support more and more languages they'll open it up more.

ING Mastercard (Netherlands), In Zune add credit card UK address with Netherlands card number, Windows Live UK account.
I did this two days ago and already bought some apps. I also read somewhere this is the official method endorsed by Microsoft Netherlands so maybe give them a call if its not working?
It seems that your site is using CDN services from Google.
It would be nice, but there is a serious problem:
Not all countries in the world are Google-friendly.
There is a certain Asian country which name starts with a "C" banished Google from its national Intranet.
And I live in that particular country,
so when I enter "forum.xda-developers.com",most of time I have to wait long, and just got a error page.
I am using a VPN to access this site, and I don't think it will survive long.
Maybe you can store those common scripts on your own server instead of borrowing from Google.
This is an international forum, isn't it?
hello
hello i am new.
nice post
I created an account and preregistered to get the $100 rebate. I decided perhaps to make things faster on Nov 2nd I should enter my address and credit card information into the site before the sale. I noticed on the pages for the address information and credit card information, there is no security at all. There is no SSL, no HTTPS, no encryption whatsoever. This is really poor practice, so unless it gets fixed and soon, I for one am not ordering.
*Update* 11-2-16 it appears the wallet and checkout screens are using https.
You can manually use HTTPS to add a card on My LeMall -> Account Settings -> My Wallet. Put HTTPS in front of the URL and it works fine (missing a styling script). Payment processor appears to be CyberSource.
Also, when checking out, it passes you to an HTTPS page when you're putting your payment details in.
Yeah they should be using https by default. Wanted to make people aware in their rush to check out on the 2nd they may not realize by default it's not secure. (At least when adding addresses or payment information now).

Yea I don't understand. It's like how kohls.com blocks anyone from even browsing their site from abroad. I called them and told them that millions of expats live abroad and we all get packages dropshipped from carriers to other countries so why would you block your site from US citizens and she was puzzled of why I even chose to live somewhere else lol.
US only!!Lemall.com permit purchase only to us customers. It's to understand don't forget leeco is a broadcasting company at the first point and products like phone and TV are minded to support its broadcasting services. They are for us domestic market and therefore it's not to regret about this decision to make lemall.com shop services available only for us customers.

Order page showed https, but I used a credit card I never use so I can track any other charges easily.
FYI: You can pay via PayPal... If you're worried about shady pages without HTTPS...
