This is a tutorial on how to return your Galaxy Nexus to stock if needed. This method uses the official images from Google
I am not to be held responsible if anything goes wrong when attempting this. This includes bricking your phone, flashing a bad image, causing WW3 etc. I am also not responsible for any files in this tutorial. They were all provided by other people.
There may be inaccuracies in this post that may lead to various things such as bricked devices so be warned. Let someone check it over first! If you see anything wrong, let me know and I will edit it!
What you need

3) Copy the contents of the Fastboot download to the same folder as where you extract the Google Image too.
4) Boot your phone into the Bootloader mode
5) Open up Command Prompt or Terminal, navigate to the folder you've extracted it all too and enter the following commands waiting for each to finish

6) The last step is to lock the bootloader. Restart the phone into the bootloader
7) Open CMD in the location of Superboot and type:
fastboot-windows oem lock

Anyone other than the OP try this yet? If so, what state were you starting from (cwm installed, which custom rom etc) and did it work? did you need to do anything differently?

It works, can confirm!!
1. copy the extracted rom folder to clockworkmod\backup\maguro_4.0.1 on your internal storage
2. boot in too cwm
3. (what i do) in mount and storage menu, format system/data/cache
4. install super wipe lite zip file
5. restore the maguro_4.0.1 rom
phone boot up, everything fine, first run wizard start..
6. reboot to fastboot
7. flash the stock recovery "fastboot flash recovery recover.img"
8. boot in to recovery to test
9. reboot the phone
i didnt lock the bootloader while i will only root the device and other things let on stock.
i came from unlocked bootloader, clockworkmod recovery and android revolution hd rom..

Brilliant news.
I've updated the tutorial to include the latest updates

so you cant just do a erase all content and setting like you can on the iphone?

Even on a jailbroken iPhone, when you do a factory reset you get all your settings reset but the phone is still jailbroken.
Same thing applies with Android. You need to flash the stock files to get back to stock.

@evostance
Another possibility (as yours relies on having access to a backup/nandroid as well as somehow being able to access the SDCARD partition) which some people may not have
would be Peter Alfonsos "return to stock"way
http://www.peteralfonso.com/2011/11/download-100-stock-fastboot-images-for.html
flash it via fastboot and you are golden
All you need is fastboot and the image

Procedure I followed to flash to takju (Android 4.0.4) from yakjuux (Android 4.0.2)
Note: This assumes you have the Windows drivers installed and working on your computer and fastboot (platform-tools-v19.zip) installed and working.
(Driver information and the fastboot (platform-tools-v19.zip) download can be found at this other yakju link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1626895)

Backup any application data and sdcard files off of your phone
I use Dropbox to upload my files onto the remote Dropbox share
Some suggestions on what to backup from your phone:
Alarms (any regular alarms you have set on your phone (wakeup at 7am, etc...))
Pictures + Movies
Screen shots
Shopping list + Todo list
Sync to Google (phone book, app data (Wi-Fi settings, etc...))
Settings - Accounts & sync - (click on your Google account) - uncheck Sync Contacts - check Sync Contacts
Sync any other things in the same way, such as Calendar, Gmail, etc...
Settings - Backup & reset - check Back up my data
Settings - Backup & reset - check Automatic restore
Factory Reset phone (make sure you have backed up any phone data you want off of your phone)
Settings - Backup & reset - Factory data reset
Once your phone is done with the factory restet and reboots and at the Welcome screen, then do this:
Start - Not now - Next - Next - Next - Finish - OK
Power off your phone when you are at the main screen
Clockwork backup - backup your original phone image using clockwork backup
Original efrant post here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=21266325&postcount=239
Step-by-step
1) Note: this assumes that you have the drivers and fastboot for your device set up properly and that you have backed up any
data (e.g., photos, etc) to somewhere OFF your device;
2) Download recovery-clockwork-5.5.0.2-maguro.img and place the file in the directory on your PC with the fastboot command;
http://download.clockworkmod.com/recoveries/recovery-clockwork-5.5.0.2-maguro.img
3) Reboot your device into bootloader mode (by turning it off, hold volume up and volume down, and press power) and
plug it into your computer;
4) Open a command prompt in the same directory above and do the following:
a) Make sure your computer recognizes your device by typing: fastboot devices
b) If your bootloader is unlocked already, skip to part c below.
Unlock your bootloader if not done already: fastboot oem unlock
You will see a prompt on your device. This will wipe your entire device (including the /sdcard folder). Accept.
Reboot by typing: fastboot reboot-bootloader
Boot into the OS: fastboot reboot
Once at the main screen, power off the phone.
Boot the phone into fastboot mode.
c) Boot CWM: fastboot boot recovery-clockwork-5.5.0.2-maguro.img
d) Now, on your device navigate the menus to back up your existing build
Volume down button until you highlight "backup and restore" and press power button
While highlighting "backup" press the power button
Wait about 5 minutes for your phone to backup it's files to the internal SD Card memory storage.
When the backup has finished, select "reboot system now"
e) Now you have a complete backup of your current build in /sdcard/clockworkmod/backup.
Save this to your computer as well.
After reboot, Windows 7 should show your phone as a USB storage device.
On your PC, click on Internal Storage - clockworkmod - backup
Copy the directory that looks similar to this to your PC drive to backup your phone image:
Example: 2012-04-24.20.37.05
Note: my yakjuux 4.0.2 clockwork backup directory was 360MB in size total
If your phone bootloader is oem unlocked (if you did the above clockwork backup), then skip to "Fastboot mode" below.
If you skip the Clockwork backup, then make sure your phone bootloader is oem unlocked so you can run fastboot
Fastboot mode and extract takju files
Power off phone with USB cable connected to phone and to your computer
Enter your phones "fastboot" mode by holding "volume up" and "volume down" then press the "power" button
Use 7-zip to examine takju-imm76i-factory-e8c33767.tgz and extract the takju-imm76i directory with your takju files onto your computer.
Open a Command Prompt on your computer and type the following to get to your takju files:
c:
cd \path-to\takju-imm76i
dir
You should now see your takju files including:
bootloader-maguro-primela03.img
flash-all.sh
flash-base.sh
image-takju-imm76i.zip
radio-maguro-i9250xxla02.img
Verify you can see your Galaxy Nexus:
fastboot devices
If you can't see your Galaxy Nexus with "fastboot devices" then:
Make sure your phone is connected to the usb cable and the usb cable is connected to your PC
Make sure you booted your phone into "fastboot" mode, see above.
optional: Erase your phones current old images
(I do not know if this part is necessary, but I was rooted before, so I chose to erase everything as follows to "unroot")
(Note: Only do this when you are ready to do the "Flash your phone" part below right after this part)
fastboot erase boot
fastboot erase system
fastboot erase userdata (Note that this command will wipe all your data, including /sdcard)
fastboot erase recovery
fastboot erase cache
fastboot reboot-bootloader
Flash your phone (Note: the following commands are taken directly from the flash-all.sh script file that comes with the takju-imm76i-factory-e8c33767.tgz file from Google)
fastboot flash bootloader bootloader-maguro-primela03.img
fastboot reboot-bootloader
sleep 5 (count to 5 then continue)
fastboot flash radio radio-maguro-i9250xxla02.img
fastboot reboot-bootloader
sleep 5 (count to 5 then continue)
fastboot -w update image-takju-imm76i.zip
Note: This is normal:
archive does not contain 'boot.sig'
archive does not contain 'recovery.sig'
archive does not contain 'system.sig'
When the image-takju-imm76i.zip finishes, your phone will reboot a few times to setup the new system. This is normal. This took my phone 1 or 2 minutes to finish.
You are done when you get to the Welcome screen.

Cant believe there are no replies on this post, thank you for this!
My galaxy nexus arrives next week, can I flash takju from the start instead of doing a factory reset, the phone is supposed to be untouched
Also, which drivers are needed? Should I just plug my phone and wait for windows 8 to install them automatically?
I'm not doing a backup , do i need to be rooted or have the bootloader unlocked?

I did the factory reset so that my original yakjuux clockwork backup was a clean backup. I do not think you need to do a factory reset.
There is another thread here about yakju where they mention information on the drivers: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1391881 I updated the top of post 1 to point driver and fastboot questions to the excellent yakju posting linked above.
You do not need to be rooted. You do need your bootloader unlocked, which is mentioned in the instructions in post 1 above.
tested and confirmed to work!
(I was getting too impatient waiting for 4.0.4 on my phone!!!!)
Also, these instructions are freaking brilliant! So simple, and concise... made the whole process a piece of cake....
THANKS!
Missing wallet and movies
I've followed the steps listed in the post. The phone works fine but is missing the wallet app and the movies app (actually the apps are present on the phone but don't show in the launcher. Just imagine the exact screen shots from above but with those two icons missing.
When I use adb and check in system/app I can see the Wallet.apk sitting there so I'm not quite sure why it doesn't show.
Anyone have any ideas?

Perhaps apply all updates, and then do a reboot.
If that doesn't help, check the md5 checksome of your original image file is correct and then reflash.

[GUIDE] How to flash " .IMG " files [HOW TO]

So,
I searched the forums for about an hour but i was not able to find a proper guide on how to flash .img files. Mostly, people have problems flashing recovery files.
This might be pretty easy but,...Still,it might help someone.
Here are some simple steps on how to flash .img files onto your Galaxy Nexus.
Let's Get Started
• First of all download this great toolkit by WugFresh from his website.
• Setup the toolkit by installing the Samsung drivers(you must have already installed them).
• Now enable USB debugging on your device by Setting>Developer Options>Android Debugging > [check enable].
• Download ClockworkMod Recovery from here.
• Now Click on Launch (Advance Utilities) at the bottom left corner on the toolkit.

}
___________________________________________________________
• Now check ' Flash (Permanent) ' .
___________________________________________________________
• Click 'Recovery'
___________________________________________________________
• Now, Select the .img recovery file you've downloaded or you can search the file path given below(in the image) for recovery.img files included in the toolkit.
___________________________________________________________
• Select OK and then your'e Done !.
looks good.. here are the steps for mskips toolkit if you wanna add them
download .img file
place the .img file in mskips toolkits "put img file here to flash here" folder
boot gnex to fastboot mode and connect to pc
open mskips toolkit
choose model number
choose option 11 "boot or flash .img file to device"
at first look i thinked you write the steps for flash a .img..but in fastboot..not in a toolkit.i think that flash in a toolkit is so easy also for a total-noob..because they are made for that!instead of do this type of installation,i'd preferred to see the standard fastboot mode,to encourage people to do it manually ( 30 sec)
sometimes **** happens and with the use of toolkit it's more difficult trace problems, anyways that for the guide!
EDIT at this point,i think this is not bad
to flash a .img files from fastboot, download and do an md5 of the file, copy it in the fastboot folder and in a command terminal from windows after going to the directory of fastboot where you downloaded the file digit: (yours phone has to be in fastboot-mode and with usb-debug ON)
FOR A RECOVERY .img
fastboot flash name_of_file.img
FOR A BOOTLOADER .img
fastboot flash bootloader name_of_file.img
FOR A BOOT .img (kernel+ramdisk)
fastboot flash boot name_of_the_file.img
1.some in the fastboot directory have the file inside nomined fastboot-windows..if it's the case, you have to write always fastboot-windows instead of fastboot in commands..or you can rename it that's more quick.
2.when you have to do with a recovery,if you want to only trying that, you can instead of -fastboot flash- do -fastboot boot-..in this case the phone boots with that recovery but after a reset it reloads the previous
EDIT 2
you can add in yours poll the voice "i don't use toolkit".i think in the end will have lots of vote!
Great, but learn how to do it via fastboot. Its safer and its impossible to brick your device if you know fastboot.

this.
if you are going to teach people how to flash .img files, do it right, not through a root toolkit. oh, and in no way does this belong in development.

Hopefully someone can help me out of this,
Thanks in advance,

http://www.4ext.net/ddl/bravo/recovery.zip (extract the zip), and put it in the platform-tools folder of where your android sdk is.
Boot the phone into fastboot (hold power and back), then use this command:
Code:
fastboot boot recovery.img
Once your in recovery do a full wipe and flash a ROM.

It needs to be recognized by fastboot not adb. Download and install HTC sync then uninstall it leaving only the drivers behind. Also install these: http://downloads.unrevoked.com/HTCDriver3.0.0.007.exe
Then boot the phone into fastboot mode (power and back) and run "fastboot devices" to see if it's recognized. If it is follow the instructions in my first post.

EDIT: No, it wasn't regarding USB...
This only works from time to time, more less then more.. (hopefully you know what I mean)
Okay, now I have a way to get into the recovery, a big step forward!!
What now?
I'd like to "install" this recovery now, as I did before on my HD2 in the past but this is far long ago, so sorry for this stupid question:
How to replace the actual existing Recovery with the booted 4ext one?
On 4ext.net I found a way with a booted rom, but without...
Later on, I'd like to flash CyanogenMod 7, so I already downloaded the suggested PB99img_cm7r2.zip.
I remember this has s.th. to do regarding partitioning, right? What do I have to do with this file?
Can I flash this with fastboot ?
During usual bootloader startup it says "No image or wrong size"
AS you may see, I know a little, but it's damned long ago...
Sorry for my worse english, but I don't know how to describe this better
Hopefully you can help me anyway,
Thanks a lot in advance!!

Use "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img" to fully install the recovery. Rename the hboot(partition) file you downloaded to "PB99IMG.zip" and put it on the root of your SD card. Boot the phone into hboot and it will search for the file. When it finds it select yes to install it then reboot.
Go into recovery and wipe everything except the SD card then flash the ROM.

Hi,
thanks a lot for these great hints, but sadly I'm unable since yesterday to enter fastboot mode
System always starts into HBOOT - and dies, weather I press any additional keys to the power button or not...
Any alternative way to enter fastboot mode?

Stock unrooted and bricked? Help

So today I had a problem with an app not opening correctly so I rebooted the device. The device was stuck in the kit kat boot sequence. I turned it off and charged it. Tried booting to no avail. So I go into stock recovery mode and wiped cache and then proceeded to wipe/factory reset. It then got stuck on factory reset. I let it sit there on the charger for awhile and it was still stuck on factory reset. So i rebooted to attempt again. Now it won't even go into recovery mode. It'll boot to the fastboot screen but when trying to go into recovery it gets stuck on the white Google logo. Is there anything I can do or do I need to send it back? I bought it in July-ish so it should still be on warranty.
It should be easy to restore the stock ROM. Do you have the device drivers installed and a copy of fastboot?
http://developer.android.com/sdk/win-usb.html
http://www.xda-developers.com/andro...ng-fast-adb-fastboot-and-driver-installation/
Boot your Nexus 7 to the fastboot screen, then connect it to your PC. Open a command prompt window with administrator privileges, cd to the fastboot directory (let me know if you need help here), then type the following commands:
fastboot erase boot
fastboot erase cache
fastboot erase recovery
fastboot erase system
fastboot erase userdata
This will wipe everything on your Nexus 7, preparing it for a full flash of the stock recovery and ROM. You can download the stock ROM from here, and there's a "flash-all.bat" file inside that will restore recovery and the ROM all by itself.

when trying any commands in adb it says waiting for device and hangs on that.
Use adb if your tablet is booted into Android, and use fastboot if you're only at the bootloader.
Do you have the drivers installed? At a command prompt (again must be administrator permissions), type "fastboot devices" and see if it gives a response.

fastboot devices does nothing. I am in the fastboot directory. I thought I had the drivers installed, but in device manager it shows up as Android with an exclamation mark
OK, that explains it. Delete the driver by hitting Del, and just to be safe, click "View" at the top, then select to show hidden devices. Delete anything else that might be for any Android devices. Then install the drivers I linked to. They're generic drivers that work with either Nexus 7 generation, plus other Nexus devices.

Couldn't you just try to boot a recovery IMG?
fastboot boot recovery path/to/recovery.img
That will let you run recovery without flashing it

Erasing boot shouldn't take too long. Hopefully the partition isn't damaged.
SwoRNLeaDejZ, I believe he couldn't get into recovery. For problems like this, I like to erase recovery and everything else anyway, especially since flash-all.bat will restore stock recovery as part of the process.

no commands work. on erase recovery command it says failed command write failed invalid argument
edit: fastboot boot recovery fails also "command write failed unknown error"
edit: i get a lot of fastboot.exe has stopped working errors on windows. redownloaded platform tools and still happens. I'm at a loss I guess I have to get Google to replace it entirely
I may have taken something for granted. Did you unlock the bootloader?
fastboot oem unlock

no and whats funny is I just got done trying that before i read your message. i restarted the device and my computer and just decided to see if it would dirty flash the flash-all.bat and it was actually going through not giving the write errors but did say bootloader is locked. so i typed fastboot oem unlock and the screen popped up on the device to say yes or no. i selected yes and it, again, got stuck for 10-15 minutes on erasing data...rebooted the device, unlock appears to have failed. argh
If you power down and reboot back into the bootloader, it still says unlocked? What if you try unlocking again?

I've never seen it take very long. Let it sit for a while, maybe plug it in and just wait?

ill let it sit, but i think there is something wrong with the device. i had a similar prob with a gs2 and it wouldnt erase or write anything to partition. would usb debugging have to have already been enabled? i cant remember if that was checked or not. or does that matter?
USB debugging is necessary for connecting once the tablet has booted into Android, but it isn't needed for fastboot and the bootloader level. At this point I fear there's more corruption than can be fixed, but let's wait a little while and see.

Just received an email from Google support. They are unwilling to help because I purchased the device from Best Buy rather than Google Play...WTH? Best Buy won't help either I won't even bother. At this point I'll have to hope Asus will take it in for repair. That kind of bummed me out about Google. Not sure if I want to buy another nexus device again now.

Is Google writing the book "How Not to Stand Behind Your Product"? Sheesh!
Sorry I couldn't be of more help. Good luck and speedy repairs to you. I must admit that with the touchscreen problems, and that it took someone who isn't a Google employee to fix it for a lot of people, all while Google is still silent, I myself don't care to buy another product by Google and/or Asus.

ASUS ZE551ML bought abroad and can't update

Good day,
sorry for going direct to the point but, i'm having trouble with my ze551ml, as it was not yet available in my country a few months back, i bought it online, and it seems the original firmware was CN, and it was just converted to WW before it was shipped to me, as i bought it via CC, i didn't return it to the online store. now the problem is that, i want to update the software but it always fails, even if i did manual update.
Device info:
-device is rooted(it was rooted already when i got it
Build number:
LRX21V.WW-ASUS_Z00A-2.13.40.13_20150401_8390_user
044030427_201501060109

Kernel Version:
[email protected] #1
Wed Apr 1 00:31:25 CST 2015
Baseband Version
1509_5.0.18.00_0320,1509_7.0.10.0_0320
CPU-Z
also wondering, this was supposed to be a 64 bit phone right? but in the cpu-z it says
Processor: Intel(R) Atom(TM) CPU Z3560 1.83GHz
Cores: 4
Architecture: x86
CPUID: 6.5a.0
Codename: Moorfield
Process: 22 nm
P.S: is it possible to update if i flash the latest firmware?
BTW: Are these info safe to share?? Thanks
Yeah it's OK to share, you fail to update in recovery right? but you get the ota notification right? To me it looks like your build version is too old and it fails to update since newer updates require newer recoveries. Does ADB sideload fails too?
sorry can't understand much
ota doesn't see new updates, haven't tried adb, current computer has no android sdk installed, hopefully answered everything? but will install it now, also will finish latest stock rom in a minute
BTW: i'm willing to lose all data just to fix this problem

You have to try with adb, go in the recovery and you should see the adb sideload option, press it and connect to the PC, now download this http://forum.xda-developers.com/zen...l-windroid-universal-android-toolkit-t3206907 and go to command section and the sideload file. Now choose the lastest update available on asus site http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/ZenFone/ZE551ML/UL-Z00A-WW-2.20.40.168-user.zip (here is a direct link), now your update should start it will take a long time so don't unplug the usb!!

Ahh then it's not, some people can't boot in the system and only in the fastboot, i want you to flash a recovery and let's see if works, http://www.mediafire.com/folder/setyy42t2cymy#3puweqngpjspc download all this files and put them in your adb folder(if you have any if not download this folder(https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B8Zi6Xs3FmZlSkl5NUFFNmZxOE0/view?usp=sharing i know it's for root but it will do just fine)) and after you have booted in bootloader type this commands

Here is what i think, the guy who sold your phone have put the wrong recovery in your phone, by flashing the files i give you(in my good will i thought the recovery was the same as firmware version) you bricked the bootloader, to fix this you must perform the guide i give you (http://forum.xda-developers.com/zenfone2/general/guide-brick-soft-hard-bricked-zenfone-2-t3284256), so i suggest you to do is backup all your internal storage to PC, backup everything you might need and do that operation when you have time, then you can update OTA
