I'm on Starburst 1.9.8 and every once in a blue I get reboots but they are not a power down/power up reboots. It's more like the Rom reboots. Similar to the behavior of the OS as soon as it loads after a power cycle. Radio is off until it loads, media scanner runs, widgets load, etc.
Is there a log somewhere on this phone I can pull to post here to help you folks diagnose with me?
Thanks.

I have been following the CM10 preview for quite sometime and, when it was needed, would do a clean install from the recovery.
The most recent build 8/12 I flashed without a clean install and was having some random restarts.
When I tried to call someone it stayed at the call screen and did not make any sounds.
After a couple seconds the screen went black(I thought another random restart) and will not power back on.
When I hold the power button for 2 seconds it will vibrate and the screen will stay black.
I've tried entering recovery mode and download mode but nothing seems to work.
I planned on when I got home doing a clean install and starting fresh but it seems I might be too late.
Is this a brick? Can it be fixed? and what other information is needed? Open to all constructive suggestions.

Maybe your screen died?
Does it power on without the display or does it try to power on but doesn't?
Sometimes it IS recognizable by ODIN but there is no display, try that.
it all that fails, then you MIGHT have a brick on your hands, which would be very unfortunate.
but give it a try

yeah go ahead and report back what happened.
Once on my gnex it wouldnt power on but it was still recognizable by ODIN
sounds like a dead battery
Noticed that build of cm10 actin weird as well. That bein said this issue sounds like the battery is dead, not the screen. I would try. To plug it in for a bit. Bet it sits and just vibrates over and over. That how u no the battery is dead. I hate it. That bein said its not bricked
This happened to me as well they plugging it into ur charger and holding the power button if that doesn't work remove the battery for a few and then pop it back it and to to boot into recovery I that my phone was dead as well.

Okay so ive been running jmt v8 for about a week on my phone and everything was running great. Then yesterday morning my phone became very slow and unusable. Then i started getting the error message acore system has stopped working and the phone would randomly restart and then it would start vibrating then stop then vibrate again and so on. So i insalled a new rom and i stopped getting the core system has stopped error but i am still getting the random reboots. And the screen also wakes up by itself. Please any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I just had this fixed. There's something wrong with the power sensor, especially if it tries to boot the second you put the battery in without touching the power button.
Unfortunately you've been rooted now and because of the issues, you can't flash stock and reset the root count. So you can't sent to your carrier.
Fortunately, http://www.mobiletechvideos.com fixes EXACTLY this for $35 minus shipping it to them. I got my phone back today and it's just the way it was ROM wise and all my files are there and the issue is fixed.
This is a pretty common T989 issue.

I can boot into recovery but its tricky because I have to press the buttons perfect or it'll just reboot. I believe the problem is with the power button and ill probably get it replaced.

For anyone with key issues and need to get into recovery or download mode there are adb commands that do this. We get too comfortable with apps and forget about the manual way of achieving a lot of the same tasks that apps provide for us.
From a command prompt:
adb reboot recovery
adb reboot download

hey guys. after the ics update my phone started to lock up and its not rooted. now all of a sudden when i put the battery in it it vibrates once then starts to load and gets about half way and stops. then it turns off and just vibrates a few seconds and vibrates but the screen never shows anything. tryed using just a usb with the battery out and it skips the load screen and automatically starts vibrate looping. the power button seems stuck but i dont think i can fix it any ideas?
Hey everyone! I have a similar (but not quite the same) problem. Every now and then my phone "tells" me to restart it for maximum performance. Every time I restart or just turn on my phone it goes through the boot cycle, including a message that says "android is upgrading" (I got the ICS upgrade from Kies prior to rooting my phone). Then, all of a sudden, the phone doesn't work, and it starts the boot cycle all over again. This happens several times in a row, which for me is a safety issue because I'm not able to call Big Jon (my husband) to get me from the train late at night. Any fixes for that? Thanks.

Damn! Just found this thread...sounds like what my phone started doing today!!
I was clicking around on gmail, then back to home screen, the camera FLASHED all by itself without me doing anything, then started the boot loop thing. Clicking the power button only made it worse. Finally was able to get into recovery via TWRP...but that was weird too. I did a factory reset/wipe and was going to reinstall The Sith ROM that I was running, but it just rebooted and loaded up The Sith anyway and it should have been cleared. I then tried to restore back to Beastmade ROM, restore was very quick and said successful but it booted back to Sith.
Now the power button is hyper sensitive! All I have to do is brush the power button and it will light up the screen. Touch it too long and it will bring up the boot menu. I'm afraid to actually CLICK the button as it might go haywire again.
WTF is going on!? This all seems really odd that it's going down with some of these new ROMs being released. I wasn't even touching the power button when all this started. The weird clicks and flashes didn't sound good when it was all going on.
Has anyone tried flashing back to and OLD rom to see if it will fix it?
change settings to interactive/deadline
I installed a new rom, and this is still happening.
Sometimes I press the power button on my kindle to wake it up, and it doesn't do anything. But I never turned it off, and I know it didn't run out of batteries. So I have to hold down the power button for a while to forcibly shut it down and then turn it back on.
This is getting annoying since it happens at least once a day, but I don't know how to troubleshoot this.
And yes, I wiped everything before flashing, and I'm using a recent version of TWRP.

From 4.21 version, My KF always could not turn on from standby, even with the latest ROM. Have to long push power button to force off than turn on. Does it conflict with some apps? Full wipe could not solve. Please advise. Thanks

I've been having this issue for a while now. I don't think it has anything to do with the ROM because there are MANY threads with this same question on the official Amazon boards and they are all running the original Kindle software.
It seems like something is causing the kindle to hang while the screen is off and the processor keeps working because I see significant battery drain when I reboot (especially if it happens overnight). The interesting thing I saw today was that it's due to a battery calibration bug on the Fire that it hangs when the battery reaches 100% charge and then freezes when the device stops charging. This SEEMS to coincide with what I am seeing, but I haven't looked into it yet.
Regardless, this issue has been coming up in forums for several years and there appears to be no fix that I have found, at least... but it IS annoying!
Hello! About 3-5 times a day my phone, an AT&T GS3 running stable CM 10.0 shuts off then reboots. Sometimes before it shuts down, the screen turns on and off multiple times like someone keeps pressing the power button. Occasionally it even pulls up the power menu as if I'd been holding it.
Any ideas on how I could fix this issue? Thanks in advance!

Oddly sounds like a hardware problem. I'd suggest cleaning your power button and/or getting it looked at/replaced.

I'm having a similar problem, but it was on CM10.1.0. Mine would also randomly shut down and the power menu would flash. I'd recommend flashing CM10.1.0 first, (or a newer nightly) and then see if the problem persists. Also you might want to take a look at that power button. It seems to be causing the trouble.
I will bet that your problems will go away when you flash back to stock rom.

I have also had this problem on CM10, what i did was flash a different kernel and have not had random reboots since. I believe is is a problem with the kernel but dont let me lie to you...
I have installed CM 10.1. Occasionally the screen will not turn on when I press the power button. I have to hold down the button for 10-20 seconds to reset the device to get it to power on. Happens at least 3-4 times a day. Anyone else have this issue or ideas on how to fix it? Thanks.

No one else has seen this issue?
Many ROMs have their little quirks here and there, this could be one. I use hashcode's ROMs so this is just speculation though.
I had this issue with twa_priv's rom. If I keep at the button, pushing it multiple times at different intervals, it would eventually come on. Interestingly, if I went into the developer options and put the CPU at the full 1200MHz, it didn't happen.
Not having this issue with CM (though I'm running 10.2) so not sure there.
This was a common occurrence in cm10.1 with TWA_priv's build I believe. This is called a Sleep of Death or SoD. I thought that was cleared up, but maybe not. If there is a newer version of the ROM that you are on, I recommend trying that. There is no way to recover from an SoD except to force power off like you did, and start back up.
