This may be a simple question that I may know the answer to but not sure..Can you remove a theme flashed through CWM and revert back to a previous one, in my case the stock? Or is it similar to a ROM (you have to have a backup to restore)
Ive looked around but it seems no one has even asked about restoring themes often. If not, it's ok, I'll just find another theme to flash.
Thanks for any answers
You can either restore a nandroid, or re-flash your rom. Make sure to wipe cache and dalvik cache when re-flashing the rom.
You could flash a theme template from the theme section. It will put a stock theme back on your phone

My two favorite roms are Fresh and CM6. I would like to be able to jump between the two whenever the spirit moves me. However, whenever I try to nandroid restore to a Fresh backup from any AOSP rom, i get stuck in a bootloop and have to rewipe and flash everything in order to get back, therefore making my Fresh backup useless. Before flashing any new rom, I always do a full data, cache, and dalvik wipe. I am I missing something here?? Shouldn't I be able to flash a rom (aosp or sense), get it setup with programs the way I want them, screens setup, etc. Then make nandroid backups and jump back and forth restoring them whenever I want?? Please help

You might be having the same issue I was; what recovery are you on? It happened to me when I was amon ra 2.2.1 so I switched to 2.3.1 amon and I stopped getting tons of bootloops. P.S I never have to wipe anything when flashing nandroids and never had an issue. My issue was the recovery.

I am currently running RA-supersonic-v2.3. Yesterday I did another backup of my most current Fresh setup but this time I also backed up the cache and sd-ext options in the recovery menu and I didn't have a problem nandroid restoring back after flashing an AOSP rom. I don't know, I think my phone is possessed!

In most cases I would agree, but if the OP is running any sort of ext a2sd, contents of cache/dalvik cache are not entirely restored, and clearing them after restore, but before reboot is a good idea.
I just ran aosp rom for the first time for a few days. When I nanded back to airborne (sense), I flashed a sense kernel before the nand restore just out of fear of remnants. Dont know if its necessary.

I love the dev teams and the work that they've been contributing, but I love the stock theme. Any ideas?
Nandroid back-up.
Correct me if I'm wrong but I think you'd have to reflash the rom after an unwanted theme is applied IF you didn't do a nandroid back-up
Sent from the future.
Sometimes themers will include a revert back to stock theme, not always though. As mentioned above, you can reflash the rom over, don't do a factory reset if you don't want to lose your data and settings. A wipe cache and dalvik would work.

Hello Everyone,
I have a couple of questions in regards to flashing themes over a custom ROM. Would it be recommended to make a nandroid, factory wipe, flash a custom ROM and then immediately flash the theme?
Or, would you flash the ROM then reinstall all the apps you backed up through Titanium Backup to restore all your apps/settings and then install the theme?
Also, once you flash a theme it obviously changes the look of your app icons, docking bar icons, dialer etc etc. If you download new apps or games from the market after you flash the theme will those new app icons be themed now as well or will they be the generic look/style?
Thanks.

Awesome, thanks man, seems easy enough.
Ordered a microSD card and still waiting for it to arrive in the mail. Once I get it I will be giving your Tuesday and Paradox ROM's a try, they look pretty amazing.
The SlickMOD ROM looks pretty speedy as well though. So many great choices from talented Dev's. Thanks again.
There is no need to do a factory wipe. Just make a nandroid. Then wipe cache and dalvik, flash your theme of choice( make sure the theme you flash is compatible with your rom). Then after the flash, fix permissions and reboot.

Thanks, I have read that some people wipe the cache and dalvik multiple times before flashing a theme. Is that necessary?

It certainly wont hurt anything.
Ok, for starters, I am new to flashing new roms and kernals and such. I've viewed most of the "new? read this first" threads but I guess I'm just not making sense of things? In order to flash another rom, I have to flash a kernal that'll work with it first, right? I just need a little more guidance before I'll fully understand and be able to do this easily.
Off topic, I would like to add that the work you guys do and the time you put into this stuff is absolutely astounding. You don't go unappreciated.

When you flash a rom, the rom will include the kernal as well. To flash a rom, boot into recovery, make a nandroid backup (optional, but safe) then wipe data, wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache. Then flash the rom and reboot ( the first reboot will take a while). The only time you need to flash a kernal, is if you're flashing a custom kernal. My advice, stay away from ics, aosp, and aokp roms until you get the hang of things.
Depending on what rom you're trying to install, I'd check out qbking77's easy to follow tutorials on youtube. Here's a good example:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vu1P...DvjVQa1PpcFMG8vvw1JCMbr-EksEinDfXlSZPXNKiA-w=
He's has many more for different roms, and they're all very easy to follow.
Very nice videos, just watched a few of them to get a better idea. A couple of questions tho, when flashing a new rom, when I wipe data, will that wipe everything in my internal memory? I don't have a memory card right now. And what roms would you guys suggest?

It's recommended to go with a clean install. Use something like Calkulin's FormatAll. You will loose apps/data, therefore it is strongly suggested to use a program like Titanium backup to backup your programs to sd card before installing the ROM. That way once you wipe everything and install the new ROM you will have a clean phone and you can re-install your apps via Ti Backup. Hope this helps.

Yes it does, thank you. But since its just internal memory and not a physical sd card, I could backup with titanium backup and save the backup on my computer, then reinstall after I'm done flashing a new rom? And I'm also curious, can I use mobile odin to do all my flashing?

Ok titanium back up is great for restoring mistakes within the rom you are using but can have some data conflicts switching Between roms. I've found the best thing to do if you have no sd card is to download app backup and contact back up off the market. That will back up your contacts to a file you can upload to your google account later. App back up will save all your apps to a folder, all in apk format so you can easily install them after you flash your rom. Now transfer your your backup folders and any other data you need to saver to your pc. Go to recovery and wipe everything then flash Calkulins format all then flash your rom. Make sure you get in the habit of doing a nandroid backup and backing up your data. I'm backed up with a nandroid and on my PC and a flash drive. Read everything first.

Oh and moniker Odin its safer and works great. Never use rom manager or rom toolbox. Odin..recovery..auto root..or mobile Odin. Those aster the safest ways. And stay away from aosp, ics, muiROMS till you know what you're doing. Don't use CWM9 touch or hitmans kernel either. Just asking for a brick that way. I recommend cwm5 or7.

You guys have been very helpful! I have successfully flashed my first rom and restored all apps and contacts and messages etc. I have 2 nandroid backups of my original setup just in case and everything has gone super smooth. I'm gonna wait before I get into more advanced roms/kernals etc and do more research. Thanks guys!

Hello everyone--
Do I need to delete everything related to my current custom ROM before installing the new one?
Thank you
No. If you coming from a different rom do a nandroid backip. full wipe. Wipe cache. And dalvik cache.
Read install instructions from the new rom. It should tell you

Back up your apps with Titanium backup or similar app and create a nandroid like suggested.

Thank you. I saw the instructions on backup and wipes, just nothing regarding keeping the old rom. Everything worked fine. Thanks again.

Make a nandroid of your phone. save it somewhere safe on your computer, go to recovery on your phone, erase all data, cache, dalvik cache etc. etc. wipe battery stats. THEN you flash a new custom rom
