Stock Samsung recovery pulled straight from stock firmware and packaged as a Odin flashable tar file. I decided to do this for those who may want or need to flash the stock recovery. I have tested this and worked fine on my phone. I am not sure if it will work with any other carrier besides AT&T so if you try it do so at your own risk and if it works report it and I will add any other confirmed carriers that it works for. I am not responsible if you brick, melt or blow up your phone so don't cry to me lol...
Below is the link to download the tar file. If anyone wants to make a cwm flashable zip feel free to and post a link to where it can be downloaded....
Edit....
It has been confirmed that this will work on Bell devices also...

Odin mode or download mode is for flashing a new firmware. I mainly posted this stock recovery for the ones using a custom recovery like cwm or twrp and just wanted to flash the stock recovery back so they could update their phones via a OTA update. If you are running a recovery like cwm or twrp and your phone tells you that you have a ota firmware update available it will not let you install it with a custom recovery. To update via a OTA update you must have the stock Samsung recovery. So now anyone using cwm or twrp can just flash this stock recovery download everoot from the play store for free then run ever root update their phone run ever root again and never even lose root privaledge on their phone....

Has anyone tried it on a canadian i747m yet ?
I'm not willing to be the first one to try it out as I can't afford to brick it due to software incompatibility. :/
Thanks for posting this Gary! And good to see ya here, we gotta get the remaining skyrocket crew to join the dark side lol
Does anyone know if stock recovery is required to perform official OTA updates with the S3 on AT&T? I remember needing stock recovery for updates to the S2 Skyrocket, but I'm not sure if anything's changed with the S3 (and I did see a Rogers user say he was able to get the jb OTA while using TWRP for recovery, so maybe it isn't necessary?).
EDIT: Also wanted to mention, in case anyone is wondering, this .tar does work with Mobile Odin Pro. Just used it successfully.
From what I've heard yes you do need the stock recovery to ota update on the s3. Again I hadn't tried it but that's what I hear anyway.
Oh and its good to be here. I still have my rocket. Its used for highly experimental testing and flashing lol.. I've soft bricked it three times since I've had my s3 in less than a month lol. I just hope my next experiment whatever that may be isn't my last lol...

As far as I know the stock 3e recovery has not changed, it's the same for any build number for the S3. The stock recovery is on a partition separate from the rom so it shouldn't matter which build you're on.
(99% sure on this but someone please correct me if I'm wrong)

Stock 3e recovery? Not familiar with this, so research seems in order. Thanks.
Stock 3e recovery == Stock Samsung recovery
However, I'm still curious to know if the stock recovery is indeed the same for any build number / variant of the North American GS3...
Anyone know if this triggers the counter?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747M
It did not trigger my flash counter....
And I also agree with skrambled I think the stock recovery is for all builds of the S3

this stock recovery, will it "upgrade" my phone to 4.3? as in make all the adjustments already made go back to new? asking because i accidentally upgraded what i think was a Knox security thing that crashed my SuperSU and now i cant even start it.
So I was trying to flash a rom today and ended up soft bricking because the file was bad. Didn't get the chance to flash the new rom and already wiped data. The backup I did was also not working and I didn't have another rom to flash.
Now I am stuck on Samsung boot logo but I could still access download mode and CWM.
What should I do to fix this? Should I just flash to stock firmware and that would fix the issue? Or is there an easier way?
Basically I just need to push the new downloaded rom into sdcard but how do I do that when my phone wont even boot?

Did you try to use the toolkit with a Jelly Bean stock? It explicitly can't do that.
Since you're using Odin anyway, you might try one of the pre-rooted stock images from this thread.

Yeah, that's exactly what happened. Will read entire instructions next time. Thanks for you help!
I bought a T-Mobile Galaxy S 3 LTE with model number SGH-T999L. I used Odin V3 1.85 to flash TWRP recovery and CyanogenMod 10.0.0.
Everything went well but my camera doesn't work. On launching the camera, I get a "Can't connect to camera" error and it quits. The same behavior is observed when using other camera apps. I tried the instructions in this thread(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2239414) but it did not fix my problem. I now want to go back to my stock ROM. I successfully downloaded and flashed stock recovery using Odin. However, Odin fails when I try to flash the stock ROM obtained from the samsung website. It gives me a "write failed" error and stops. Any tips or suggestions to help me out would be appreciated. Thanks
Is it supposed to use T999 firmware?
Only odin flash T999L firmware. I dont see it released yet at samsing-updates.com though.
Maybe samfirmware.com? I can look later.

Why not reflash the stock ODIN flash rom and make sure it all works ok for you, that will tell you exactly what the problem is.
If the stock rom is working properly, then there is only one thing left which is the culprit and that is the CM10/AOKP/AOSP
or PORTED roms which many people seem to like flashing.
The CM10/AOKP/AOSP and ported roms are excellent if you are a developer or if you like to do a lot of experimentation with your phone.
So the thing to do now is reboot your phone to recovery mode, do a "Factory Reset", "Wipe Cache", "Wipe System" and "Wipe Dalvik".
When that's done Open Odin and put the stock rooted T999 Tmobile Jellybean 4.1.2 into Odin's PDA slot, go into download mode
and once you see Odin is connected to the phone start the flash. Have patience for the phone to boot after its done flashing.
Here is the stock rooted Odin flash T999 Tmobile Jellybean 4.1.2 rom that you can download if you like: T999_UVDMD5
Official JB Firmware - Latest JB 4.1.2 Firmware
My suggestion to you is to only flash Samsung T999 Tmobile stock based Jellybean 4.1.1 or 4.1.2 roms in the future.
But who am I to say whats best..... This is just my personal opinion...... Which usually is not worth a dime. LOL

I am a newbie. I thought the T999 was the same as the T999L. That would explain why Odin doesnt flash stock T999 onto my device. Can anyone here post a link to the stock SGH-T999L ROM?
Just did a quick check and I dont see that the firmware has been made available for download yet.
If you want stock I would flash one of the stock based custom roms via recovery for now.
Out of curiosity, what is your current baseband version?

I had the same issue with the same phone. Got it 2 weeks ago haha. Did you happen to make a backup first using CWM Recovery? If so, you can just restore that backup and you'll have your camera functionality back. It's pretty annoying switching back and forth from CM10.1 back to stock just to take pictures but Rom manager makes it pretty quick and effortless.
Actually now that I think of it, they prob wont release the original firmware. Seems like the first build is never available, only when an update is released do we get firmware we csn download.
I am working with another member on getting something going for the T999L, but right now we are stuck until a verified safe method of rooting is found. (Dont want to flash a recovery or cf autoroot w/o knowing it wont screw something up)
Itll happen, but we just gotta be patient.
Just reread the op and see that you say you flashed TWRP. So you were able to initially gain root without any problems?

I used Odin to flash Clockwork Mod recovery first. I did not like Clockwork Mod's interface and reflashed with TWRP. I had no problems to gain root with either of these methods. I also tried Cyanogenmod stable 10.0.0 and then 10.1 RC2 without any problems. As far as I can tell, all apps work except for the camera. One word of caution though. As you can see from my posts, I am new and dont know what I am doing. I might have just gotten lucky since my device is still unbricked. I had only one "scary" moment during the entire process. I used TWRP to wipe my phone clean and was stuck with no OS install file. ADB sideload did not work since it could not recognize the device at that point. Luckily, I had a micro SD card lying around and was able to put in a new OS install file using my laptop and then TWRP was able to handle it.

If you're doubting the update don't, the OTA process involves sending the update 1 by 1 randomly so that everyone doesn't download the file at once and overload the download servers, causing bad downloads, and bricking devices and in the end you'll get unhappy customers.

Since I'm leaving Sprint and giving my Gnex to my two year old, I unrooted, returned to stock, and locked the device. After following the directions for adb sideload, everything came up great.

hey guys have been out of the modding life for a long time now since HTC Amaze came out on market and ive had nexus' (galaxy nexus) since then. i had a quick question. my sister passed down to me a S3 T-Mobile one. its on 4.1.1 and i had at the time put in CWM long time ago as i was gonna flash custom roms but never got around to it (i did this with the help of a youtube video.) now i have this device the Volume UP button doesnt work which is essential to go into download mode... how would i go about updating this to the latest 4.3 Firmware? if there are any detailed steps id really appreciate them. Sorry i know it sucks to get noob posts like these but i have done a bit of research and i cant seem to ask the right questions on google! thanks
btw just for though im switching from nexus 4 to s3 just cause i dont need the power from the n4 and i just want the s3 screen
so i think i found the piece i think its here: http://www.ebay.ca/itm/T-Mobile-Gal...cement_Parts_Tools&hash=item4d14d4fdbd&_uhb=1
is there a demo on how to do it or should i take it to Pacific Mall and get someone to do it? how much would it cost anyways?
You only need volume up to enter recovery.. volume down is for download mode.. anyway there are apps that can get you to download or recovery mode as long as you are rooted.. you could do that meanwhile or just wait till you fix the button.. really all you have to do is flash a 4.3 rom and modem in recovery, no need to update the whole firmware

Being on 4.1.1, itd probably be a good idea to update the firmware. Thats just my opinion though.
You can root without volume up working, and or flash roms like serio said.
As for fixing it though, if you are good working on electronics and have good manual dexterity, you could probably do this yourself. But the advantage of taking it to a shop is if they screw it up theyd probably have to replace or reimburse you for it.

what if i want to flash cyanogenmod11? is there any step by step? i dont want to brick this phone
do i have to update baseband?
First thing is to get rooted. Easiest way is to flash the root66 firmware via odin. Now decide if you want to use cwm/twrp recovery, or Mobile Odin to flash your rom.
If you want to use recovery, use goo manager or rom manager from the store to install the recovery. Then from the app choose reboot recovery and flash your rom. Factory reset after and reboot. Thats it.
You may need to update your firmware to at least 4.1.2. I think cm had issues running on older firmware.

isnt cm going to be 4.4.2? hwo do i update ? im fully rooted and running CWM 6.0.4.5 Touch ^^ dont know about TWRP but ive been using CWM for the longest time before so i trust it
If you want to skip updating firmware, just flash the rom from cwm. If it errors out youll need to update to at least 4.1.2 (official or root66) via Odin.

for official or root66 you use Odin or mobile Odin, not cwm

flash the ROM and the 4.3 modem, as well as a custom kernel or at&t stock kernel modified by DocHoliday77 to get WiFi working

Go to the firmware thread stickies in development (and linked in my Sig). Download the 4.1.2 firmware (or 4.3 if you choose, up to you), and flash using PC Odin.
Mobile Odin, while awesome in its own right, cannot update your boot loader and other important parts of the firmware needed by CM.

Or am I remembering wrong? Wasn't there issues with running newer CM roms on pre 4.1.2 firmware? Isn't that what started everyone using the boot loader asserts in their scripts?

I think it was just pre JB but I'm not sure.. If that's the case then flashing 4.1.2 firmware is a safer bet

Yes, as long as you don't care about the knox counter being tripped

If you didn't buy it from T-Mobile then it doesn't matter
Edit: just re-read the OP, and yeah it won't matter

thank you all! yeah its T-Mobile phone used in Canada (Wind Mobile) thought maybe knox was like more prone to bricking or something this phone is almost 2 years old

As long as you don't try to flash older firmware or bootloader then Knox is really no big deal.. You can still root, flash custom recoveries and ROMs with it
