Hello, I have a HTC Desire with ClockworkMod 2.5.0.7.
I haven't flashed a rom for over a year now, and iv'e seen that there are newer versions of CWM.
Is it any good to flash a newer version of CWM or am i good with this 2.5.0.7?
Thank you
If it works, don't touch it

+1 I prefer "If it works, don't fix it"
2.5.0.7 is preferred amongst many anyway due to it's proclaimed stability compared to newer CWM recoveries
Never change a running system!
Thank you guys, I'll stay at 2.5.0.7 then, never had problems with it so why update.
Much appreciate
I have the same question, but I read somewhere that some ROMs might need a newer version of CWM, can this be true? If so, will Clockwork backups work from one version to another? I mean, will I be able to make a backup with 2.5.0.7 and restore it in the newer version?
What other things do we have to pay attention when switching custom recovery versions?
Thanks!

I've never seen that a rom needs a newer recovery...
They are only recommended by the developer.

You read wrong, or whoever wrote it is an idiot, or perhaps you read about a different device.
Ok, thanks everyone..! I'll just stick with 2.5.0.7 that always worked great for me..! Yeah I read somewhere (not in this forum) that some recent ROMs need a custom recovery that supports "edify" (?), therefore Clockworkmod should be version 3.0 minimum...

Yeah, he wrote it. Someone was clearly talking about scripting used, but as 2.5.0.7 supports both amend and edify, it's bulletproof.

Will there be any compatibility issues trying to flash nandroid backups made with 2.5.1.2?
3.0 is not working for me I can't flash in recovery?
It's only allowing me to recover gingerbread. I can't flash new roms either.
I just installed 3.0.0.2 and I havent tried any new ROM's or GB ROM's yet.
Post up some reviews of anyone thats tried

"gingerbread recovery" doesn't make any sense.
Recoverys aren't specific to whichever ROM you have installed.

It does if Gingerbread uses ext4 and previous Android versions do not. Especially if ClockworkMod Recovery 3.0 doesn't support the earlier file systems.

Two "ifs" in that sentence.
Just cause it may allow for the use of ext4 doesn't mean it's not backward compatible.

Being as it was released via Rom Manager for all, I would doubt that they would release something like that which isn't.
Just wanted to let everyone know that Rom Manager now has clockworkmod 3.0.0.5 for CM7 to be flashed thru rom manager now along with the older versions for android 2.2. So no more flashing via fastboot or terminal, all our flashing and rom jumping can be done much easier all thru Rom Manager. Thanks ClockWork!
If I flashed 3 awhile back do I still press update now? Or do i select delete recovery then update?

Forgive my n00bness, but I am on 2.5.1.2 and can do all these things. I'm excited there's a new version out and I am very, very grateful for the hard work of those responsible. just wondering if I'm missing something...What all does 3.0.0.5 bring to the Glacier?

3.0.0.5 allows you to flash gingerbread based ROMs, basically CM7. According to @cmsrc on twitter today however, there may not be a need to switch through 2.5.1.2 and 3.0.0.5 soon. No time frame on that though yet I don't believe.
Anyone know if they fixed the charging while off issue that cwm has?

This is big in two ways
first of all
Previously we were not able to create a Nandroid backup. A nandroid backup is a snap shot of our OS in it's current state. So if we flash something new, a font, a boot image, what have you we are putting 100% of our faith in that flash that it will not screw anything else up. Because if it does we have to start at ground 0 again.
second of all
the developer of CWRM said that he would make the 3.x flash-able via the ROM manager when the CM7 build approached an RC status. So that isn't to far off.
So now am I gonna be able to update my rom(cm7) with rom manager automatically.

We have always been able to make nandroid backups from CwM recovery, just not using Rom Manager.
I was looking for this but i didn't found anything intresting. It is possible to multiboot/dualboot on Desire?
I don't think so, i was searching a lot for it, but didn't find anything at all. Nexus One can do it, but why not the Desire then?

What a pity. I'll try boot this recovery via fastboot. There's still hope.
EDIT
Yep. Doesn't working on my phone too. There's no hope :/ Maybe someone can convert this recovery?
Sorry to ask, but why?

You can't multi-boot but you can do a Nandroid of your favorite ROM's and simply restore whichever backup you prefer for that day. This assumes that you don't use custom hboots however as that would not work but sticking to say the stock or CM7 hboot and only installing ROM's designed for that hboot will work fine.

Thx. I hadn't thought about this way. I can do Nandroid but if i install new app or change something i must Nandroid again. Backuping and restoring every day is very annoying. But If i have no choice probabbly i'll do what you say.
are suitable for the HTC Desire PVT4 devices. I had a lot of issues recently trying to downgrade to a stock rom, but with help from the forum I am running LeeDroid.
Seems I have very little space for app`s etc on the handset itself.
Thanks
It depends what you prefer... you can pick a lot from development section:
AOSP
Sense
MIUI

I have had a look at a few m8, but I thought there was a problem with the hboot on pvt4 devices or will most rom`s work?
I got pvt4, I'm flashing nearly every week as updates come out, I'm rooted and s-off, got a brick recently as recovery crashed during flashing, easily sorted under 1.5 hours
I also have a PVT4 and have flashed ROMs with no issue. I only recently went S-OFF and changed the HBOOT. Best thing I did, the extra storage is brilliant.
I had issues with LeeDrOiD 3.0.8.2 A2SD but after more research that was probably a result of restoring some system data with Titanium. Live and learn.
I'm currently using the OZ version of InsertCoin Data++ with no issues at all. But I am interested in looking at the MIUI and ASOP ROMs soon.

The problem with *some pvt 4 devices is they have erase size of 40,000
From terminal emulator:
Code:
cat /procmtd
to check.
Cwm 2.5.0.7 is designed for erase size 20,000 so if you have 40,000 use amonra 2.0.1.

Why using archaic recoveries when we have new and not dead ones?

Thats what causes PVT4 Desire handsets too have problems with ROM/Manager ..Clockwork etc.
Must admit guys I am a bit of a noob to this, but the more I read the better I will get.
I learned a bit a couple of years ago about flashing Dbox`s for Cable box`s and thought we were dealing with a similair type of system I have had my eyes opened.
Thanks for the advice anyway Much Appriciated

Any chance of explaining this m8 ,,,, Noob needs it spelled out
Basically you have Amon ra and cwm recovery based recoveries... Amon ra and RMD recovery are not developing anymore... I did not see update for long time... CWM and 4Ext recovery still developing, I was using both as I got brick twice with 4EXT I tried RMD, happy with it no problems so far in 3 months/about 100 times used for flashing, hope this will help

RMD Recovery, 4ext Recovery, ClockworkMod Recovery v5.0.2.0.
My HTC Desire "breaks" most times I'm trying to install a Custom ROM.
The only ROM that has worked so far was Sandvold Beta 0.11.
I've also tried: D-Sense 4.0 Alpha 0.4, Cool 3D Runny v7.
Every time I flash those ROMs via Clockwork Mod Touch 5.8.0.2, the installation process finishes without any problems, but when I reboot the phone it hangs at the ROMs boot screen forever (not the HTC screen).
I have a GSM Desire (Bravo) S-OFF, Stock Hboot 6.93.1002, PVT1, Radio 5.11.05.27
I hope someone can help me as I'd love to have the Desire running ICS and some kind of HTC Sense...
Thanks in advance for any help.

Most Sense roms require ext partition as they store their data there because of the limited internal memory Desire has. No roms that have ext in their requirements will work this way.
Find some guides on how to partition you SD-card.
OK, I have created a 1GiB sd-ext with ClockworkMod and both ROMs install but they still don't want to boot.
I've checked the SD card in a PC and there is a 1GiB ext3 partition at the end of the card.
What am I doing wrong?
