hi all, kinda at my wits end here (yes it is 2AM, Have spent some time trying to find answers in other posts, have tried many fixes, but to no avail)
late last night i was flashing the final release build of my rom onto my evo. no problem, went to make a nandroid of it (using clockwork), no problem. I have an 8gb sd card (samsung). so i reboot back into the rom, and that when things went to ***
The sd card was not detected by my evo after that. ok, no problem, i will see if i can see it in my linux box, plug in the cable to the usb, nothing. ok i run windows too, reboot into windows, same thing, card not being read.
no problem i have a 2gb sd card in my old blackberry. i format that, put it in the evo, doesn't read it. put the 8gb card i had in the evo in the old blackberry, it reads it.
so i format both cards in the blackberry, put amon ra pc36img.zip on both cards, go to my evo, and go to the bootloader, gonna do the install of the recovery this way, nope, cant read card. ok no problem, i was gonna try flashing a stock rom, copied the files over to the card(s) with the blackberry, put them back into the evo, nothing..time to search xda for fixes.
tried the sd card/usb fix from caulkin, but can't use it because adb and fastboot will not recognize my device at all. as well as the last reboot i did before coming here it seems my rom is also gone from the evo.
any advice for me on how i can proceed, before i call sprint tomorrow?
if anyone needs any more steps to what i have done/ not done to my evo let me know.
thanks in advance guys
edit - back in windows trying a ruu now...
Mounting I'm fastboot from the bootlaoder didn't work either? Make sure you have the correct unrevoked or revolutionary drivers depending when you rooted.
This epic reply brought to you by none other than my roxx'd out Evo.

seems the ruu is not going to work either. it gets to the part where it says waiting for bootloader, then shoots the error can't find phone, check your usb connection.

yes i have 2 cables. also if this may give a hint, fully formatted both cards in windows, when i re inserted back into the evo and went to recovery, and tried to mount, clockwork says this:
unable to write to ums lunfile (no such file or directory)
half smile? took the fully formatted 2gb card i had spare, put it in, got amon ra flashed, but it will not boot into amon ra, so there's something there
second try - boots into amon ra, trying to see storage in windows now..

It 'almost' seems like you could have bad nv partitions.
I would try to re-flash amon ra via PC36IMG, if possible.

I rooted my Evo last night with no problem and then decided to risk taking chances modding. I ended up replacing the HTC lockscreen with the vanilla one! However, I ended up trying to do a clockwork mod (the one that has the battery number on the top) and now my phone is in bootloop. I can't get my computer to recognize the phone now to download something on it. Anyone know of a way around this?
You should be able to pull the battery and be able to boot right back to recovery. Did you try that? Loops are POST recovery override so I would guess you haven't tried this yet?

Thanks for taking the time to help me btw
Have you tried a different USB port? Strangely, sometimes Windows gets picky with a particular port / phone combo... and then choosing a different port often fixes connection failures.
Also, did you try factory resetting the phone as well? Like... clear storage... followed by full wipe?

Yeah I tried to reset factory but it resets it right into "Clockwork recovery." Trying to change ports now.
Yeah my main problem is I downloaded that mod and I need to get the phone back to how it was when I first used the Unrevoked 3.2
try booting to fastboot... then reboot your PC... then use a previously unused USB port... switch things around if you have to.
Actually... I have another idea...
IF you have unrevoked forever on there, I am guessing this should work...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=764062&highlight=amon_RA
that thread shows how to easily get switched to amon_RA from clockwork essentially in one easy step... but it requires that you push the img file.. which you are mentioning you cannot do... BUT... if you have a card reader/writer, you can pop your micro SD card out of the phone and into a reader/writer and put the img file in its root... along with a ROM of choice. then boot to the phone and it will automatically ask you if you want to restore the image file. say yes and you will be loaded up with amon!! amon is better. once you have that on there, pull the pcimg36 file off and flash the ROM that you picked from your amon recovery.
does this make sense? if not i can try to give better detail.

Cyanogenmod6 is simply the best, but it is VERY buggy at best and needs and unlock, which you don't have. I like Ava v7 because of it's simplicity and stability. A lot of people like evio and baked snack though. I don't know why. I don't personally.

Maybe you should read a little more. The best way to get the information you are looking and to keep it retained in your head is to discover it your self.
A quick search for ADB How To might do the job.
yea im tryin to do adb i guess. i got my sd card to finally show up but wen i try to load the nandroid which yes i should kill myself for being so lazy which dates way bak to 10-01 . it jus stays frozen on the that bootscreen i had

You really need adb. I know is kinda scary I was in your shoes once .but read about it download it play with it it will help you in the long run I have done what u have done at least 3 or 4 times the answer is here in the forums. It kills SD card and usb that's why your computer wont see the sd card . Only other option is if your have a SD card reader plug it into your computer sorry I can't be more help.
I had this happen to me on a plane, almost exact same circumstances. The HTC kernel in RLS4 is not compatible with the latest radios.
You need to use adb to push one of two things to the phone:
1. One of the alternate kernels - They work with the latest radios
2. The older (octoberish) radios - Something before the december release
Steps-ish:
adb shell
-> mount /dev/sdcard
-> exit
adb push one_of_the_two_above_zips.zip /dev/sdcard/zipname.zip
Then use clockworkmod to flash that zip from the SDcard.
i finally got an old nandroid to load up so ima just go from there. im losing alotta important things but ill learn from that but i do dearly thank you all . !

Having a hell of a time getting my evo 4g to change to s on. I have successfully unrooted it but the s off remains there. I need to take it back to sprint for repairs.
I have tried several with the recent unrevoked 3. But my results are after flashing "waiting 5 seconds because windows hates" message and the other says waiting to reboot" (both freezes forever). Any direction would be appreciated.
Thanks you.
Newsflash. I've never heard one story of Spring checking a bootloader to make sure a phone is S-On.
Flash A stock ROM and you;ll be good, although there have been posts that say Sprint will work on Rooted phones now.

You have to have a custom recovery to do that (Amon-RA or Clockwork). You need to reinstall Amon-Ra Recovery by putting this in the root of your SDCard and rename it "PC36IMG.zip": http://files.androidspin.com/downloads.php?dir=amon_ra/RECOVERY/&file=PC36IMG.zip
Then flash this: http://downloads.unrevoked.com/forever/current/unrevoked-forever-son.zip
After that just run an RUU from here: http://goo-inside.me/supersonic/ruu
In case the RUU won't work from your computer, download one of the ZIP ones, put it in the root of your SDCard and rename it "PC36IMG.zip". That always works.
I am not sure what you mean by "Spring checking but I have flashed the stock rom PC36IMG.zip onto the root of the sd. My understanding that once your successful doing this you basically revert to the original rom. I have done that thanks to this site. But, I cannot for the life of me get the s on back on. Rooting my phone with three different custom roms were easier. Not all Spring stores like rooted phones. Id rather revert to original with the s on to be sure. product F thanks for the reply I will try that..perhaps I missed something. Thank You.

That plus the leaked document from the sprint employee forums that said that sprint supports rooted devices means we don't have to fret over s-on for service just make sure that your phone is running a sense rom when it is taken in otherwise they can't use the diagnostic commands from the dialer to fully support the device.

Thanks for staying with me. Appreciate it.
Here is how I wasable to get to recovery to get to the root directory for choosing zip from sd.
STEP 9: TURN OFF DEVICE
Power down the device by holding the Power Button for 2 seconds. Allow it to shutdown completely. Wait about 10 seconds before next step.
STEP 10: RECOVERY MODE
Hold down VOL DOWN + POWER until device boots into a White Screen.
Move to RECOVERY by using the VOL DOWN toggle and select by using POWER button.
STEP 11: TRANSFER PC36IMG.zip TO SDCARD
Connect the MICRO USB Cord. There is an option for this in both the Amon RA and Clockwork recovery.
Transfer the PC36IMG.zip to the ROOT of your SDCard.
It was the connection and discnnection of th usb cable. Everything was in green. Is that normal.
So, my next step was to flash the forever s on zip. The results were unsupported radio version. Update failed. The current version I have is 2.15.00.05.02. on the new update on my evo. I tried it first by removing the pc36img.zip nd then tried it with it on...same results.
So I found this radio version (EVO_Radio_2.15.00.05.02_WiMAX_27243_PRI_NV_2.15_003), but I am not sure if this is what version is needed. Anyways, I apologize for this long everyone, but I am trying to provide as much info and hopefully I can minimize your time. Thanks alot.

The radio package you mention is the same radio you already have, so you'll want an older version. I'm not exactly sure of the version number, but I do know that is not the correct one.
Remember when you flash radios to not pull the battery. It'll flash, then upon rebooting it'll finish. You'll see a screen that you probably haven't seen before, it'll most likely be an arrow pointing down to a phone or an Android in a box... or something like that. Regardless of what you see after the flash, don't freak out and pull the battery - you'll end up bricking your phone. It's one of the few ways to guarantee a real brick, the phone will never turn on again. You may already know this, or it may be in whatever guide you're using, but it's good to know.
Anyway, I'll see if I can find the correct radio for you, and good luck!
Edit: I read somewhere that someone used this one to get s-on: http://www.mediafire.com/?v0ymbhaa0ltcvyy
However, you may need to do some trial and error. It should work, but here's a link to all of them: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=715485
These are from Calkulin, so if they're PC36IMG files you'll be fine, but I'm pretty sure you flash them in recovery. Sorry, it's late & I'm lazy. Anyway, I think Calkulin still uses amend scripting, which will render them incompatible with ClockworkMod. You'll either need to switch to Amon Ra to flash them or find a different flashable zip. I think you'll only need to flash the radio, not all of them, but I could be wrong.

You don't need S-OFF to have sprint work on your phone for repair. My cousin just got an insurance replacement Evo 4g because he washed his phone with his clothes. He brought it over to me to be rooted and the phone he got was already S-OFF and that is an Insurance REFERB. also with the leaked forum of how Sprint will infact work on Rooted phones gives it away that you dont need S-OFF
Plainjane. Thanks for the info. I downloaded the zip from the first site you showed here and it ran well with the exception that it got stuck on formatting cache. So, I rebooted. s off still on. I will try the next one here in a few. Thanks everyone.

If you can access the bootloader then you are not bricked. If you can get into recovery then the first thing that you should try is to wipe the Cache and Dalvik Cache. If that does not work then something in your data partition may be messed up. The next step would be to wipe Data. You will lose all of you system settings and data by doing this and you will have to reconfigure your accounts and install all of your apps again. If you have a backup (using MyBackup or Titanium) you can restore that just be sure not to restore any system settings that were from a different ROM.

wasn't doing anything out of the norm. had just flashed the runnymede beta that morning and decided to keep a few days so i ran my restore from titanium backup and in the middle of the install of one of the apps it did a random reboot and been stuck ever since.
one thing i haven't been able to try is a ruu, has to i haven't got a windows machine to run it on yet.
If anyone has the fastboot binaries for mac and can share it i would greatly appreciate it. it seems all the links im finding for it is now sending me to the new htcdev.com site.

try this link, there is a download zip in there for a MetroPCS Android phone. Inside that zip files there are two mac files adb-mac and fastboot-mac. Try it out.. hope it helps
Thanks for that link. i did finally get fastboot to recognize my evo on my mac but when i try flashing or erasing anything it say failed(status malformed)
Aso had no luck with tha RUU cant get it to connect to my device what do i need to do to get it to even run (somewhat of a noob question)
You've got to put the ruu on your SD card, as PC36img.zip

did you do a google search for what that meant?
I have downloaded the ROM Classic v0.1.0 Supermagic, placed it on my SD card. I have also unlocked my bootloader and have CWM recovery. I have returned to the bootloader screen, went to recovery mode, and went to select which zip I wanted to flash. I found the classic v0.1.0 file and slected it, which I thought would begin the flash/download. It simply opened and gave me 3 more options for files. data/, system/, and META-INF/
I should probably mention that after getting the classic v0.1.0, i extracted it and put that file on my sd card.
I have an EVO 4G, unlocked but still with the S-ON, although I can still flash files. I really appreciate any help.
Don't extract a rom..and use smelkus recovery its better than that one

but other than that mistake, it looks like I'm on track? and speed really isn't an issue right now. As new as I am, I simply want it to work.

Wow. That helps. I followed the rules and read everything I could before attempting anything and searched and read some more. Somehow I missed that thread. Would have saved me a boatload of time and frustration.

Try fully Rooting your evo I had the same problems when I unlocked the boot loader on the og evo for the second time.don't worry you can RUU it and get back to fully stock if you have any problems.
