As of November 26th, 2011, the latest Swype beta Swype v3.26.92.36178 (http://www.multiupload.com/IALPY1J32T) does not yet work.
It erroneously reports the screen size as 720x1,184:

Using the latest installer also produces an error:
I had the same problem. I find that I'm really, really missing it. Once you get used to swyping, it's hard to go back.
I wonder if 720x1184 is the size of the screen apart from the space reserved for the soft buttons. I hope to see Swype soon, touch pal isn't really the same and it is mis-sized as well on gn

I too started using Swype since Galaxy S I, it became a habit and I just can't type well without it. While waiting for Swype's support, I searched the market and found a software called SlideIt, very similar to Swype in fact it worked just fine ever since I've got my Nexus, no screen size problems at all. Give it a try guys, I'm still using the demo while waiting for Swype, or I might just buy the full version.
This is the apk of Galaxy Note if anyone wants to try it.

Same here, I also got the error message already before installing it.
I hope they will make a compatible version soon, but I find that since the screen is so big, thumb-typing like on a BlackBerry device works surprisngly well with the Nexus.
This link is already on the other Galaxy Nexus/Swype thread on XDA, but posting here for completeness: http://forum.swype.com/showthread.php?4798-Ice-Cream-Sandwich-and-or-720p-ETA
In short, the issue is that the Swype installer checks the resolution, and because of the soft keys, the reported resolution actually has 96 px chopped off the end to accommodate the soft keys.
John
still?
Has there been any development here or is Swype on Galaxy Nexus still a no-go?
What a bummer! I was just about to click the "order" button for a new Galaxy Nexus and then noticed this issue. Without Swype, I'll just stick with my 2-year-old Nexus One for now, thank you.
if you were to read the link on the swype forum, you'd find out what the status is

Its the best android keyboard ever. Great spacing and accuracy but doesnt supports greek etc
I feel the same way... not having compatibility with some apps is actually pretty tolerable.. swype is dope but so is the stock keyboard... the haptic feedback feels great.

if you extract the apk in display7_SwypeScreen.ini says:
Code:
NumberKeyboardNameLS = Numbers-LS
EditKeyboardNameLS = Edit-LS
MainKeyboardNameLS = Qwerty-LS
ScreenHeightLS = 288
ScreenWidthLS = 1280
ScreenDimensionLS = _HD720
NumberKeyboardNamePT = Numbers-PT
EditKeyboardNamePT = Edit-PT
MainKeyboardNamePT = Qwerty-PT
ScreenHeightPT = 426
ScreenWidthPT = 720
ScreenDimensionPT = _HD720
what numbers should the screenheightls,screenwidthls,screenheightpt,screenwidthtpt be to be compatible with galaxy nexus?
ICS+Swype
Was reading the ICS/GNex thread on Swype, and just to confirm. Swype has no issues with ICS per say, it is the screen size that is screwy for some reason. Additionally, i have found that improperly acquiring the app can cause issues (for example getting it from somebody else etc). I am enrolled in the beta programme, have been since pre-nexus days, so i just requested a downloaded the installer via the email.
Not sure why it's not compatible since the first few post on that thread says "swype officially supports 720p resolutions". It even works with the new ICS Style "add words" thing, as opposed to the old way to add words to the swype dictionary with the pop up, it seems to use the ICS Custom dictionary.
In all honesty I'm using Slideit for now and its a great replacement. It even has an ICS theme and is $0.10 today
Me too -- I was heartbroken at losing Swype, but have adjusted to SlideIt and am now happy with it. There are some SlideIt touches I'm even finding preferable.

Swype does not support the screen because of the buttons at the bottom.

Swype is now (somewhat) working for GNex!
I was reading droid-life comments and one guy mentioned this post on G+ about a modded Swype for the tuna.
The application works correctly on in portrait mode. He post mentioned using Keyboard Manager to switch between Swype and Android Keyboard for portrait and landscape.
Unfortunately for a noob, I can't post the link to the post. Just search "swype for galaxy nexus" on Google Plus.
I have Swype back now! Enjoy!

OK, i have the same problem.... Any updates? ive tried disabling/enabling.. etc
Same goes to me, have to switch back stock keyboard then select swype again to get back the keyboard back to resolution.
I also encounter the live wallpaper phase beam does not work at all, as well as HTC account unable to sign up.
WASSUP WITH THIS NEW PHONE?!
Have you guys tried the stock keyboard in swype mode?
This seems to be an app issue not a phone issue.
Is "live wallpaper phase beam" a stock live wallpaper? Again it could be an issue that the wallpaper doesn't support the screen resolution.
As for the "HTC account unable to sign up" this was a little stupid by HTC but they are renewing the htcsense.com website and at the moment new signups are closed. This will hopefully be launched in the near future.
ok managed to get the solutions -
option one - rotate the screen into landscape/portrait and then revert back - its sort of working.
option 2 - download another modded apk and use instead of the swype beta installer version...ive got the apk and can upload somewhere,but by xda rules are we allowed to post swype apk's?

Thanks for the info mate.
Hey guys, I got swype installed on my OneX and was using it for a couple of days. Don't remember what I did but my swype got scaled down to about the bottom 1/5th of the screen which I like, since I can see way much more than the current 1/2 screen.
I encountered the lazy drag ring to unlock bug and had to reset my OneX and then I encountered the same problem as rahularora1 where the swype keyboard got scaled down to the bottom left. I changed input method to HTC touch and back to swype to solve the problem but I wanna get the 1/5 sized keyboard back! anyone knows how to do that?
update:
I managed to somehow activate the small swype again (once again, totally unaware of what I did) did a screencap of how it looks like.
I noticed this problem and get around it by rotating the screen to landscape then back again. It stays correct from then on. (until you kill the process)
Swype author needs to fix
Think there might be a bigger problem with Swype - I think it's the culprit for killing auto-rotate function.
Happened to me twice and had to reset. Didn't reinstall 3rd time and no more problems so far

This is a very, very annoying problem for me.
Since I write in swiss german, which is a completely own language, I was relying on the app "Sms to swype" to import my sms into the dictionary of swype, because teaching it all the thousands of words in swiss german would be a giant PITA.
Problem 1)
Stock Swype (which came built-in with the H1X) won't let me download the german package, which I need for the german forums
Problem 2) Swype Beta (after deinstalling stock) is scaled much too small
I hope Problem 2) gets solved fast, as I can't return to Stock Swype without having to reflash the ARHD, because I somehow messed up the backup with Titanium
Hello guys , I have solution for u for the swype being small.
Download and install swype for Galaxy Note from this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1538901
First time it will appear unscaled, do the "rotation trick" and than it will be awesome and with proper size ))
I did it, it works perfectly for me. (I use Cyanogenmod9 port for HOX)
Cheers
I do the rotate trick and it fixes the problem for me, although the keys size has shrunk quite a bit. I prefer the smaller looking keyboard though, as I can see more of the screen above it then.

Any thoughts? It's really weird to me (gives weird predictions, splitting words in half)
I'll just chalk it up to it being in beta.

Yeah the smart spacing is pretty cool. Don't know why they even have a space bar lol. Easiest way to type ever lol.
To me it's either Swype or Swiftkey 3, I'll give Swiftkey 3 a try when I can.
I gave up on swype after finding it hard to adopt to one hand swyping, loving swiftkey beta 3
Where can I find the beta? Wasn't on the play store

For those of you who want to get the beta, look up SwiftKey vip on Google and sign up on their website's forums and install the beta directly on your phone after you get the confirmation email.
I'm loving it a lot of my only vendetta against SwiftKey X was that the space bar was too small. Although if I had the opportunity I'd replace the voice recognition button with a comma.

I'm really enjoying it, but I do have a few gripes about it.
-It's super slow in Chrome's address bar. Then again, so is the stock keyboard.
-I don't like the method for inputting "! ? , ." symbols. I miss having the , to the left of the keyboard.
-I wish I could disable the Settings key in the left corner.
-I don't like the numbers/special characters keyboards.
But it's fast, it's super accurate, and I don't mind the Holo theme. Actually even Cobalt is kind of nice, but Holo is nicer.
By the way, for those who want to tweak the haptic feedback duration, I've always used 12ms on the stock keyboard (and this one) and found to be a lot nicer than the "tickle" you get at 5ms.
Since ics I hate any other keyboards.
Swift key lacks one main feature which is dictation that I use on most occasions. Secondly the keyboard is very slow and inaccurate.. It just doesn't feel as Smooth as stock keyboard.
Dictation is the main reason I'm not using this keyboard

One thing it needs is to use Google talk to text as it still uses the older one as you can't speak while it types it in, you have to speak then it will input.

Ditto to the smart spacing. The punctuation is the best. There's isn't an option to change hold times on keys which bugs me because 500ms is too long.

Yes, I really miss this from the Swiftkey X. I mean, REALLY miss this! Besides that, it is a great keyboard, I've been using it for the past 2 days...
I just wish we could be able to swap the special characters key with the options key... and the options key with a comma key.
smart spacing works but it gets confused when you go back to edit a word. I hope they fix it for the final release.
I am hoping to find a snap on BT keyboard to work with the Siii. I am a big email user and still struggling with the touch keyboard. My wife has one for her iPhone asnd I was wondering if anyone knew of one for the Galaxy. I would need it all the time but business trips with tons of emails wild be a lot easier with a keyboard
I highly recommend the swype keyboard built into the default Samsung keyboard. It takes like 1 min to learn. Trust me I used to BBM all day long and this is by far the easiest and fastest touch input method I've ever used, I can easily type 3-4 times faster than I used to even with physical kb. You can enable it in the input options under the Samsung keyboard it's called 'continuous input'.

I too would recommend a different keyboard than stock, but in my case, SwiftKey is better as I like to multi touch type, and swype is pretty unforgiving if you tap more than one spot at a time.
Since purchasing the gs iii, according to the stats, it has fixed over 2.5k of my typos!
I am a very heavy email user (corporate exchange and 3 of my own accounts as well).

the default samsung keyboard and trace = stinks... terrible... horrible...
If you like to "peck" then you'll like Swiftkey more.... if you want to retrain yourself to swype -- Swype is awesome. I've got both installed, and I can easily type faster with EITHER compared to the default keyboard. I really like swype, but I find it more natural to PECK at the keyboard so right now I'm using Swiftkey

I absolutely love Swype, but I have to say that something is super buggy in this latest version (or at least for the S3). Every time I type something wrong, or it gets the prediction wrong, if I try to tap the backspace to delete one letter at a time it jumps all over the place and starts deleting random parts of my sentence instead of sticking to the word I'm on.
Then, even if I try going back to the word I was originally trying to delete, it will STILL force me to delete all the other parts of my sentence before allowing me to properly delete the original word.
I'm with the OP.
I'd rather have a snap-on physical bluetooth keyboard. a nice big one just as big as the S III itself.
There are BT keyboards out there but they're small like the iPhone.
I've tried Swift and Swype. I couldn't get used to swype but I do LOOOOOVE SwiftKey. The Longpress numbers is awesome. I felt great paying for it. One of the few apps I've bought with such ease. Google should buy SwiftKey. Everyone here is right- the stock Samsung keyboard is crap. Especially the landscape one. At least try swiftkey first, though, since I don't think there are any keyboards or keyboard cases yet for S III although since it is so popular I imagine there might be one soon. But SwiftKey is a huge improvement on Samsung's keyboard.

Tip #12 is a better way to improve the keyboard.
I've always wanted the long press top row for numbers back, but I primarily use my N7 in portrait so the letters are really small with this. Awesome to know that brings the full keyboard back, but I don't think I'll keep it.

Got the PC thing working but agree its not useable in portrait.
As far as long press for numbers, thats what my default android keyboard is on 4.2.1 ROM. Its pretty good actually with swipe feature included but still not as good as Thumb.
I believe it is usable in portrait. The swiping is accurate enough to not have to hit keys right on... the keys are much larger than the Swype keys on my Optimus (3.2") screen, which works too (but not as well). I thought the same when I first changed it, but after using it a few days, I seems to swipe just as fast (and accurately).

Minuum keyboard seems great. Only problem is that it doesn't support my language yet.

SwiftKey

Stock google.
Simple and confortable for me
Tried out a lot of keyboards but keep coming back to swype.
SwiftKey is by far the best keyboard I've tried on android. One feature I miss however is text snippets (or what are they called again?)
By text snippets I mean automatic system that changes @@ to your email address or ha for home address etc.
