are there any option but to be functional?

thks and please
I'm no expert but I'm pretty sure you can only share 3G data, not wifi from a separate router
Can't do it, but you can buy a cheap wifi repeater for under $50 US that solves your problem.

This would only be possible if the Play had 2 Wifi Adapters inside it.
Hi all,
I have an unlimited mobile internet data plan for my mobile phone. I am at vodafone.
So in order to use mobile phone internet on my android tablet, i turn on mobile portable hotspot, and succesfully connect my laptop to it through wifi. And voila, the laptop gets internet from my mobile phone ... so good so far ...
But when i run internet explorer at tablet (any site i tried), it keeps redirecting me to vodafone's prepaid mobile internet card site!!
I can't browse at all.
I test the same thing with an xperia ray (android v4) with the same carrier and worked just fine.
i talked to vodafone customer support and they couldnt help at all. (I believe they have locked somehow internet sharing from the mobile phone through wifi)
After that i tried and succesfully rooted my phone, but the problem is still here..
i don't know what to do next
I bielieve switching to custom rom will solve the problem but yet i hesitate because i read that there are lot of bugs at other roms
Any ideas??
plz help!!
Guys, I have a brand new Xperia Play, stock ROM, unrooted. When I switch on the wifi tethering it doesn't work.
My 3G data connection otherwise works flawlessly, but as soon as I turn on wifi tethering (or USB tethering) it stops receiving data.
Thus I cannot share my internet connection with my Vita or laptop.
I tried restarting the device, re-installing the 3G access point, nothing helps.
Anyone knows what might be the problem... or should I try to return the device?
(This is quite important for me as I work from home and need an internet connection to my laptop from time to time.)
Well are you SURE that your carriers data plan supports tethering?

100% sure, it worked previously with Sony Xperia P (which I sold already).
I have an Xperia Play. It is a UK model that has been unlocked. It is a dev model.
I am having problems connecting to WiFi. My brother (who gave it to me) says it was connecting in the UK. He bought over two of these phones niether of them will connect.
It wont list the available networks, thought it does scan. The mobile network/ internet is working fine.
Am I missing something?
Hello,
I want to ask something about my new Z1 Compact.
Pretty impressive out of the box, but then i found some problems...
Notice : i've upgrade to 4.4.2 with wi-fi right after i bought it.
the problem is :
1. i can't connect properly to google play
2. i can't connect to social media apps (path, twitter, facebook, etc) via mobile network (wi fi is ok)
3. i can't connect to internet with google chrome (pretty sad that's the only way to surf the web since no android browser)
what bothering me is, if i'm using it as USB Tether with my laptop, everything's goes find, i can surf with ease.
Is it the phone ?
If it is, what's causing it ? (hardware or software)
oh yeah, i've tried to repair it via PC Companion software from my office's PC.
Please share with me if anyone have the same problem
Thank you

Hi There,
I've found the solution for my problem, at last !
Maybe you can do it too on your device.
The problem is with the APN, my provider instructed to use just the APN name and let all the rest blank.
And the default setting on the device, everything filled up (proxy, dns, username, etc).
I just enter the right apn and let anything else blank, Voila, the connection speeds up again.
I hope you find your solution soon, mate.
Cheers
