After rooting my wildfire and getting rid of the bloatware i did a backup and restarted. I was then prompted to download a system update 1.02.652.00. Just thought i would let you all know, not to sure what its for.

Yes that's it.
Android 2.3.5
New lockscreen
I have a stupid question, Do i need to have S-OFF to install a not branded(like tmobile) but official ROM ? (RUU one etc.) ?
No you just need to create a goldcard first if your phone is branded.
You'll find how to created one here :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1142529
If the RUU number is higher i think you can upgrade no problem without a goldcard but might have to be same region as your original rom.

I went from 1.33 to 1.66 bootloader 1.03.
but if i instal 2.13 , i get error 131 wrong ID.
Is this because im s on?

Use goldcard for update
Sent from my HTC Wildfire S A510e using XDA App
I'm trying to do this update. It will download it to the sd card perfectly fine. after it reboots the phone to apply the update, it start to load something for less than a second(loading bar at bottom), then just sits there at the android with the exclamation mark triangle and doesn't do anything else.
I have the HTC_A510c model. Virgin Mobile USA CDMA phone. I have the gold card created, s-off, rooted, and clockworkmod custom recovery installed.
The file the update downloaded is called OTA_Marvel_C_Sprint_WWE_VM_1.02.652.00-1.01.652.20_release_220163t0ppyzj10xds3ff7.zip, if I was to rename the file to PG76IMG.zip, then boot into HBOOT(vol down and power), would that work properly to apply the update?? Or should I try to update it through the clockworkmod recovery using either the update with zip, or install zip from sd card??
I'm very very new to droid stuff, On my second Wildfire S as I flashed a GSM rom onto the CDMA phone, which apparently results in a brick. any help with this would be appreciated, am I missing a step?
Exactly the same question, so I figured I'd bump this. Any help out there for the question/issue?
hold up... slow it up a notch
The OP referenced a security update from VM USA and people telling him to flash a gsm RUU to his device. The update is safe btw I got it before I rooted but please don't flash the 2.3.5 RUU. It might make for a really long day for you. Some devs are building [probably as I type this] a cdma compatible kernel. Yes HTCdev has dropped the source code as well [for WFS 2.3.5]. Just be patient, flash one of mine or simon's roms if you want to flash something, and we will have 2.3.5 before you know it.

I asked this question a few days ago because I have forgotton [I'm old]. Pretty sure you have to unroot your device, may have to flip it back to s-on, update, s-off again, root. Its a pain for a minor security update... Its not 2.3.5 Try just unrooting first. Might not have to s-on; like I said, I'm old.

Maybe it uses this thread info : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1379543
I havent read the whole thread so I am not sure how it does it but there were CDMA and GSM ppl, all CDMA customers succeeded but all GSM posted that failed.
I think someone here with GSM in WFS forum tested and failed too but have no time to search for it.
I can only say that I am sure for myself that it is working only on CDMA because I have checked the thread but cannot prove it to you, so anyone who wants can check it again

welp... on our own after s-off
marvelc users:
The tool I thought may help does not. at least not for OTA updates. Reason being? You do have to re-lock the bootloader (s-on) to install these updates, and this tool does not accomplish this (although it may for other devices). Also, we have no official RUU (for A510c devices) as far as I've scoured the internet for (these have been reported to switch the device back to s-on). So the old adage applies: Once you s-off your device, you are on your own. At least for now anyway. I tried the better part of the day to get this working but to no avail. The tool referenced above also does not unroot our devices (although I did accomplish this; easiest way right now is an app [in Chinese mostly] called Un-rooting on market). Sadly without a s-on, update fails same way as before. Thought I'd share.

dude I had exact same problem. i update to 2.3.5 and HBOOT did not changed from 0.90.000.
So I manage to DL another RUU from HTCDEV (asia) and update HBOOT once again (this was impossible before updating to 2.3.5). then it changed.

First of all, I got "ROM IS NOT SUPPORTED" error when I tried to use one of the RUU files mentions in HTCDEV. ( ASIA , EUR , .... )
so I found my rom's HBOOT is not released yet. (my main rom was ARABIC)
So I updated my rom to EUR 2.3.5 ROM (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1363693).
But this update didnt changed my HBOOT, it was still 0.9.000.
SO then I updated ASIA RUU (PG7610000_Marvel_hboot_1.08.0099_20111216.exe) once again and it worked this time and updated my HBOOT. it changed the HBOOT version to 1.08.0099. (as i mentioned this RUU did not installed on my phone prior to updating to 2.3.5 due to "ROM IS NOT SUPPORTED" error).
after that I followed the steps on HTC dev and bootloader unlocked!

Actually i had flashed the EU rom in the first place everything got updated n it worked fine too but the bootloader was not getting updated! tried other methods to update the bootloader which failed too! So that got me worried that i cannot update my bootloader!
Flashed the same Asia rom.
Downloaded the RUU from htvdev for bootloader 1.08.0099 India!
Then when i ran the ruu got an error n it didnt let me install it..
Then got two files rom_1.zip and rom_2.zip from the temp files..
rom_2.zip contained the hboot update files so tried flashing that by renaming it to PG76IMG.zip and making a goldcard but it skipped the bootloader update again!!
then i first flashed the rom_1.zip first (which updated my radio) then the rom_2.zip (updated bootloader and then changed the radio again) n my bootloader got updated successfully!!!! B-)
so i just flash different roms if my ruu is not on the list and that will work?

Exact same position as you Larz, HBoot update keeps being bypassed when trying to update... Tryed different ROMS by extracting the rom.zip and changing the file name to PG76IMG with the same result for each one...
Their has to be some solution for this...

Ok so I brought the phone from Telecom, it says its a A510b, model number PG76120 (found behind the battery, just below the SIM card slot)
So what I have done to achieve this result:
1: Simply sign up to the HTCdev website www.htcdev.com/bootloader/ once done, select the HTC Wildfire S from the drop list to begin
2: After accepting all the terms and agreements bla bla their is a list of ROMS, their was only 3 options for the model that I have PG76120, so I downloaded the HTC Thailand RUU
3: Ok so if you end up running the RUU it will tell you that the ROM is out of date with an error message, what I found out (this took me all day...) when you first open the RUU (this is if you run Windows) their will be a Temp folder made with all the files that the RUU needs to run, if you search the Temp Folder (usually found under the user folder in Documents and Settings\<User>\Local Settings\Temp) these files will only exist if you leave the RUU Program open, so just open it up and move the window to the side, search under the Temp folder for rom
4: You will find 2 zip folders named rom_01 and rom_02, copy these 2 zips to your desktop
5: Now change the name of rom_01 (im not 100% sure if its 01 or 02 that you need to do first, I cant remember) to PG76IMG and copy it over to a microSD, insert into your phone and boot into HBoot, it will go through the normal process of detecting and then opening the zip and will ask you if you wish to update the radio to v2 (it should only ask to update the radio, because you need to do it first before you use the second file which asks to update both the radio and hboot) allow to do so and it will do its thing and when completed ask to reboot.
6: Now change the name of the second rom (if I have the order right this should be rom_02) to PG76IMG, remove the first file you put on the microSD and replace it with second, back into HBoot, it will read the file and ask you to update HBoot and Radio, allow it to do so and it will update the HBoot, should say OK next to HBoot, once completed it will ask to be rebooted
7: To check that this has all happended correctly, go back into HBoot (remove your microSD before this) and you should have a pink box up the top stating *LOCKED* if you see this and your HBoot version is now 1.08.0099 (if you used the RUU that I did) you are now ready to go through the HTCdev Bootunlock process
8: Do the HTCdev Bootunlock process, it is straight forward and easy to do!
9: Forget needing to use the XTC and starting modding you HTC Wildfire S!!!
Thanks!!
Just rooted my WFS!!!
I present, the simonsimons34 Wildfire S tool.
Unlock without voiding your warranty
Note requires hboot to first say locked
The biggest thing this tool can do is UNLOCK your hboot WITHOUT ever needing to wipe your data, go to HTCdev.com or voiding your warranty. Unlike S-off we can reverse this too. Simpily let us Unlock your phone for you, and flash roms and recoveries as you wish. Just like S-Off. This will also help you get S-Off with the utility from the general section. The only thing you NEED is a proper Unlockable bootloader, and the recovery that came with the phone. If you need this tool, you already have stock recovery. So nothing besides a HTC unlockable bootloader is required. Everything else is in the package.
Universal to HTC Devices
Dont let the name fool you, though. This will work on ANY HTC unlockable phone. The other tools besides unlocking will only work for the Wildfire S CDMA, as of know however.
Sorry, It is a beta.
Being as this is still in beta, there will most likely be bugs. Things that dont work. Please report them here with a screenshot and or the exact copy of what it said. For now this is a self extracting exe, so place in a folder of your choice, thats empty preferably, and open it up. The bat file will automatically be opened. There is a good side to betas though. Improvement! Soon after we confirm it works, I will be moving to a GUI app to make everything even easier.

Little Question: How to get the Stock Recovery without downloading a RUU?
Filefactory all Slots full for about a hour...
Can someone extract the Stock Recovery.img or give me some adwise?
Simon, you might want to add prerequirements like having the android-sdk, fastboot, etc...
Also, inform users what state the phone should be in. (Recovery, in ROM+USB Debug, Fastboot, etc...)
Just an idea.
Will add some files soon. When I get home around 5 pm EDT. The recovery for CDMA is on my other thread with roms ect. Team Marvelusc and mentions RUU's We have our own hosting for those.
this should be on the portal
Portal? Mind if i ask "Huuuuhhhh?" Lol
EDIT: Updated links. Everything is included in download thats needed. If your phone isnt working be sure to use the install drivers option
Have confirmation from two different people that this works. Both people were unlocked previously (before this util was invented, and recommended by me to use) through HTCDev.
User 1: used this tool to successfully install ClockWork Mod.
User 2: used this tool to S-OFF MetroPCS hboot 1.10.0000 and install CWM.
Major thanks for this Simon. Glad to have helped and been a part of this amazing utility!

Or describe pls how this stuff works.
Don't want to talk your work bad. But we all have to ensure that it wont brick our devices.
And one confirmation, that its working is too less.
Maybe also a video could help to convince us from your work.
Hi, is it possible to release the source code to allow other devs to build on this work?
Cheers.
I will eventually. Right now there's nothing to build on though. It works with every phone. This weekend (school takes major time) I will release partial code enough to see what it does but only the code of the batch file (it does all the work.) Give me a few days. Theoretically, this should work on ANY HTC phone, not just the Wildfire S. (Unlocking, anyway)
Guys, you want the code? Run the EXE and find it in your temp folders. All the .bat files will be in there. There's your code.

Also, should you guys that are already "unlocked" and want to try this out, use "TheQ"s bootloader relocker. It works to relock your bootloader.
Then use this to unlock it.
I've done it. Both work great.
are you talking about the option N° 1 "Bootloader Unlock CDMA Only" or the option 4 "s-off" to test on another device ?
Simon, is this the "universal"? If not, is the other one you linked me to universal? (No, it claims CDMA only too.)
Also, CM7 built in 15 minutes lol. No compile errors, but I haven't flashed it yet through fastboot. Doing the VM hboot test in about 20 min.

If its complaining about CID incorrect, it just means you need a goldcard, which that guide goes through.

Sent from my HTC Desire Z using XDA
---------- Post added at 10:07 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:47 AM ----------
There's a CyanogenMod wiki called HTC Desire Z: Rooting. It does help figure out the rooting process in a simple manner. I know there's an excellent post on XDA but I can't find it. Google it.
And follow the process to the T and don't miss out on anything. You're gonna be fine.
On a personal note, I've tried Virtuous Unity and found it to be ridiculously slow and memory-hungry. Otherwise it's quite Sense-ible. I personally can't stand a slow phone. I'm using MIUI 2.3.23 right now from MIUI Andriod. Loving every minute and not missing Sense in the least.
Heh, guys. Didnt work.
After this step "adb reboot bootloader" in manual downgrading, the phone could boot in boot loader and started scaning for images. But after scan it said that image is missing or image is wrong! I dont know what to do... Did all of steps twice...
When tried to downgrade with fastboot, screen shows gray HTC and the phone hanged.
did you make a gold card?
also are you on gingerbread?
Yes I did.
After running this script:
# ./flashgc
There was message that my flash card is a goldcard now. Successful.
Yes, I have GB 2.3.3

looks like my post was edited for some reason ?
s..t happens again.
No results. The same... Tried downgrade from the link pointed above before rooting the phone.
and had the same "No image or image is wrong"
Change flash card, made goldcard on it too.
I was able to get temp root, but when Im loading into bootloader "..image is wrong ...bla-bla..."
Used two different flash cards for goldcard procedure and in the end of it had the same results. It didnt help. What to do.
What type of card do you use?
I can make video with all things I do to show you that everything I do is strongly by wiki.

it sounds like bootloader isnt picking up the PC10IMG on your sd card.... the CID incorrect error comes after this...
after its failed have you checked to see if the PC10IMG has transferred to your sd?
also just to check after you adb reboot bootloader in 7 you are then selecting bootloader?
Yes, the image is on sdcard, I checked.
Of course, after rebooting into bootloader I m selecting bootloader.
After that Im just waiting for searching. After few seconds of waiting the image loading starts.

either a bad download of of what ever ruu your using or your goldcard didnt work. try another method of making a gold card or using a different sd card (fat32)
also redownload the ruu that you need and put this one on your card
In my first post I mentioned that i have australian stock rom whish has 1.85 as earliest version of rom, not 1.34. I already tried to downgrade to 1.85, it works, but grant root is not possible here.
Try to reformat my flash card again...

its not getting to the goldcard stage... it should find the PC10IMG.zip & then ask if you want to upgrade after you choose yes it then checks & either continues or gives you a CID error
i had a good check the other day when i was rooting my second one...
maybe some screenshots of the terminal & the platform-tools folder would help just to check everything is where it should be

UNLOCK - this is an official unlock of device bootloader from HTCdev.com site. As they say, this is an opportunity to install custom roms, but indeed i cant see any difference between locked (state by default) or unlocked.

If it is a true developer edition, you might try backing up, running one of the Developer Edition RUU's to get back to 100% stock, and then see if you can get the OTA update. If this was a conversion, make sure the CID/MID are correct (which requires S-off).

Then why did you state in the thread title and OP "stock"?
InsertCoin is a custom ROM and not stock. So you need to return to a stock ROM to install OTA.

1540 is US Dev Edition, and the OP has Euro DE. The RUU likely will not run with incorrect CID, MID. And not sure this is the stock baseline he would want to be on.

Don't know where you obtained that info, but its false. S-off is not needed to install any ROMs.
If the phone is a demo unit, you should have stated that right away in your top post. On a previous HTC device (One X) I believe the demo unit was very difficult, if not impossible to make fully functioning. But no idea if the same is true for the M8 demo unit you have.

As I just said in my last response, you do not need S-off to flash any ROMs. If you want help, you need to start actually paying attention to the help that is being given to you. You are also making it very hard to help you, by not giving enough info, and just leaking it out little by little.
You say you can't flash any other ROMs, but that isn't enough information. What happens when you try to flash? Does it fail with an error message? Or flash successful, but doesn't boot? What other ROMs have you tried?
If you want to return to stock to receive OTAs, you will need to find and flash the appropriate nandroid and stock recovery for our CID. Stock backup collection can be found sticky at the top of the General section. There are also various guides on how to return to stock, if you need them just search.

I glad you got it working .. sorry about the dead link, i wish Mike would leave the old version on his site longer
Day 1, I got my phone I unlocked bootloader and rooted.
I created a backup and tried installing Android Revolution HD 53.1 and it worked, however my WiFi didn't work and boot times would be long, so I uninstalled it and went back to my backup I had made. I read that this happens because my current firmware 1.58.502.1 (4.4.2 KITKAT) is too low (incompatible) to download Android Revolution HD 53.1.
Recently I also bought the sunshine S-off method. So I am currently S-OFF.
ALSO worth noting while I have the international edition of HTC ON M8, I am using T-MOBILE
With S-OFF am I able to go directly to Android Revolution HD 53.1 (which is MM Custom Rom)? If not how do I make my devie compatible with this version?
I would appreciate any help, thank you.

Installing the RUU will overwrite twrp that you had to have to be as far in the process as you are, you'll have to reflash it. http://www.htc.com/us/support/htc-one-m8-t-mobile/news

Please do, I'll be more than happy to help with any questions although you seem to have 90% of this down. The other 10% is small stuff only plausible via sunshine.
Lollipop 502 (AT&T) firmware can be found here (packed with custom ROM): http://forum.xda-developers.com/att-htc-one-m8/development/att-4-4-3-2-22-1540-3-debloated-sense-6-t2837365
Another option (since you have s-off) is to change to Developer's Edition CID or SuperCID. then flash to Marshmallow firmware or MM RUU (if you want to be all fancy like that). Although the current custom ROMs (including MM ones) should run fine with LP firmware (its KK firmware that is the main problem).

Honestly, I gave up. I was reading some tutorials but did not understand what I had to do. I come from a Galaxy S4 and that phone is infinitely more times easier to mod than this phone. I have had to jump through so many hoops to just root it.
However, I have no idea where to go now, I feel like such a noob.

Stick with it. Every device has its own learning curve. And we're happy to help and explain as much as needed to get the job done.
But really, flashing the firmware is not too difficult; especially considering you've already accomplished unlocking the bootloader, know how to flash custom ROMs, etc.
The link I gave you has instructions on how to flash the firmware. After doing those steps (1-3) just flash TWRP 3.0.0.0, as the version indicated in the page I linked is a bit old.

Just got back from work.
I made a backup, flashed the new firmware through cmd, flashed twrp through cmd, now I am flashing lolipop through twrp, i am sweating so much my hands are sweating so bad, i hope everything turns out ok, this is the first time ive ever done any of this so I am extremely nervous.
UPDATE: LOLIPOP ROM FLASHED SUCCESSFULLY, REBOOTING PHONE (I know that it usually takes a while for a fresh ROM to boot) WAITING PATIENTLY AT htc one boot sequence, crossing my fingers! :crying:
UPDATE 2: Got past the boot, now waiting on "Android is upgrading... Optimizing app 44 of 223" (damn bloatware!)
UPDATE 3: SUCCESS!!! EVERYTHING WORKS, YOU ARE A GENIUS, I LOVE YOU MAN, THANK YOU!
I really appreciate that you helped a complete stranger such as myself, I know you didn't have to, but I greatly appreciate it. Thank you once again man :fingers-crossed:
Running another backup and I will attempt the Revolution ROM once again.
