[Q] data connection problem - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I'm from Germany and went on Holiday recently to Singapore and Australia. There I bought prepaid SIM cards for internet access. Now that I've returned and use my german SIM again, my phone can't enable the data connection anymore.
I've attached the *#*#4636#*#* phone info screen. I already tried factory reset, reflashed a radio image and new rom - and still the problem remains. I also tried all the different radio band settings (see second screenshot). It always says "fail because Radio Not Available).
I didn't flash or change anything on my holiday trip, so I'm really out of ideas. I hope someone can help me.
Thanks
Björn

Set network type to GSM and try again.
SwiftKeyed from dGB with Transparent XDA App

error message stays the same, also tried the other network type options, always the same

I just tried a SIM from a firend of mine, and with that one everything works normal.
So it seems to be a problem with the sim card. I guess I will just get a replacement SIM.

Please Help !!!

I have just recently got an G4 xda exec, fully unlocked and i have upgraded to TML 8.7.1 and i have also got a 3 sim, but when i put my 3 sim card in the device it says that it is an orange sim
I have tried with my other sim card and that is perfect but it is not a 3g sim so i really want 3g to work
Any Ideas ???
Have you run the Connection Setup? I can't remember if TML871 has built one in his ROM or if it's auto-run. Either way, if you run it again, you should be able to select 3sim instead of orange.
Trying that now, it did have that setting, and i have not tried that one before
EDIT: I have tried to do that, it still says orange and when i go into the connection setup it says error with the database
I have had another look at it and it shows that i am on roming signal, but when i was on wm5 it showed UTMS when i put the sim in, so if it is just my signal or not i do not know
but thanks for the help anyway
ALls I can think is to try a different ROM, and see if it's a problem with Tomal's ROM. It would switch to roaming if it can't find your network and goes through another one (eg Orange). Are you still using the same Radio that you did with WM5? Perhaps you should try another Radio - people seem to like 1.15.
Or... find a .CAB with your network settings and just install by hand. I had some problems with settings provided in various ROMs, so always carry Voda NZ .CAB on my SD. Just in case
i have tried using different settings, so i am now trying a different 6.1 ROM to see if it is a problem with this rom
Thanks for everyone's help
I Have been able to fix the problem, i have used the AllmostOfficial 1.2 Professional rom and I went into the phone options and then network and manually selected 3 off the list in preferred networks and added it onto the list and now it works
Thanks for everyone's help and support as well as the good availability of the site.

[Q] G2 won't connect to cell network after unlocking

I unlocked my G2 before leaving on trip to Europe and after the unlock process has finished phone now can't connect to gsm network at all. I used 3 different sim cards including t-mobile original sim card nothing helps. Also did hard reset and reflashed with OOB ROM from dev thread, nothing helps. Anybody has the same issue? Any other suggestions?

Dear friend, my issue exactly. No connection after unlocking. I have tried virtualy anything (different sims, firmware reinstallation, reboots, reset ) nothing happens. As far as i can tell after unlocking the phone cannot read properly no sim at all. It behaves asz a phone whith no sim in it. Try open your phone with no sim and try search for networks. You will get the same error message. I have contacted HTC and awaiting an answer. Where did you found the unlock code?
After you entered the unlock code, you got a pop up message saying something to the effect of "Unlock code successfully entered, rebooting device." Did the device instantly reboot for you or did it take a while? I'm curious as my device just sat there for five minutes before rebooting.
Edit: I should note that I cannot test my device with my foreign SIMs right now, but my T-Mobile connection is working fine post-unlock. Also, it might help to read through this thread. More anecdotal experiences with G2 on other networks in there.
Doesn't work period, the T-Mobile sim card doesn't work either anymore.

The device took about 1 minute or so to reboot. And after that not even the original TMo card is working. Where did u get your unlock codes?

I didn't mention because I assumed that as long as it works (meaning the popup said the unlock was successfully entered) then it doesn't matter what the source was. I got my code from T-Mobile, who in turn requests the codes from HTC.
I unlocked by inserting a friend's AT&T sim. Strangely, the device didn't give me the unlock dialog at all when I inserted a Chunghwa Telecom (Taiwan) sim. It couldn't register to any networks when my CHT sim was inserted. However, I did not have a "no sim inserted" error in my notification bar, so it's not the same as your situation, I think.
I have tried every solution i can think with no results. I just hope it isn't a hardware fault a it is very difficult for me to return the phone to T-mobile and get a new one

Its the same. I dont get a no sim error. Sim is found. But network search is dead
Try looking up the APN settings for your network and enter them under Wireless and Networks under settings. I had a similar problem with AT&T when I first unlocked. I had signal but no data.
We get no GSM signal whatsoever. Just shows the "x" next to the cellphone signal. Also getting to *#*#4636#*#* menu shows that both CID and LOC fields are unknown. I also tried to do the sim lock from the recovery menu (press volume down with power key) and it gave me errors as some files are missing, so I'm guessing the unlock did happen but it didn't write something somewhere.

Excactly my friend. It cannot read properly the sim properties so it cannot find MCC/MNC and CID of our networks. The error you get in SIMLOCK IS
MCCMNC FILE MISSING
CID FILE MISSING
And another thing i noticed. In a properly working android phone when you create a new apn the MCC and MNC fields are automaticaly filled. But in our case they are blank...

Your problem isn't similar at all. These guys can't get signal or data. Network scan turns up nothing.

To be exact network search returns an ERROR.
Yeah my bad, didn't realize their problem was so severe. :/
I have a similar problem except mine is temporary. When I unlock the phone I have no connection. Shows an X on the tray. Try enabling airplane mode and disabling it and still the same. I have to reboot the phone in order for it to connect again. It's only happened twice so far, but was annoying. Hope it doesn't get worse.
I am still using the old SIM card from my Cliq, which was in my Sidekick before that. If it happens one more time I'm going to install the new SIM that came with the phone and see if that helps.
Edit:
Nevermind... My phone is not unlocked. I read the post wrong.
Unfortunately no solution yet. I have read here that an OTA is rolling out. Let's hope it could something when received
How you plan on getting OTA if our phones are not even connected to the cellnetwork??? Just leave it on with wifi???
wifi or someone will post a download link.
So far pleople with the same problem as us are increasing.

This is the error through logcat for RADIO
Having the same issue
I noticed in addition that there is a difference i the SIM-lock is enabled or not.
When it is not enabled the "SIM error" icon does not appear and the radio symbol is an "x"
When it is enabled I am asked for the PIN at boot and after I enter it the "SIM error" icon is also shown.
So at least the phone seams to be still reading the SIM but that's about it.

[Q] Suddenly Unable to Connect to Network

Hi All,
I'm hoping someone out there could help me with a very puzzling problem I've been having since yesterday on my HOX.
I recently moved back to Australia and bought a SIM from Vaya, who use the Optus Network. Everything was working fine for the first 4 or 5 days, but since yesterday, I have been unable to connect to the Optus network for the majority of the time and when I have been able to, it has only lasted for a short period and then I lose reception again. I did not make any change to the phone in the last week, besides regular automatic updates to installed apps like Facebook, etc. I have also tried the SIM card in another phone and it is working fine, so figure it must be a problem with the phone, and not the network or SIM card.
When I try searching for networks, sometimes I can see YES OPTUS, and when I try to connect it gives me the message "Your SIM card does not allow a connection to this network", and other times it just cannot see the network at all, even when in the same location where I have full bars on another phone. I have rebooted the phone several times, gone into the phone diagnostic screen and set the radio bands to AUS, AUS2 and back to Automatic in case that may have been the problem as well.
I have a WWE HTC One X, CID HTC_001, bought factory unlocked, rooted, S-ON running:
Rom: ViperX 2.7.0,
Kernel: Faux 010m
Baseband: 2.1204.135.20
Build: 2.17.401.2 CL89015 release-keys
HBOOT: 0.43.000
Any ideas?? I'm just really puzzled by this since it was working for the first few days and just stopped working overnight after nothing that I can think of has changed
Nobody?
make the setttings for the internet urself..or try to use another SIM card in ur phone and see if you still have that problem ..better use a sim another carrier..
I had this problems and a manual configuration for the internet resolved it
Yeah, it's not an apn problem, it can't connect to the network provider at all (to make phone calls or sms's).
Having a little trouble getting my hands on another micro SIM, but will hopefully have some luck soon

[Q] HTC Desire will not find network without searching or save APN

Hi Guys.
I have searched for this issue but cannot find anything specific to my case.
I have a rooted HTC Desire running InsertCoin and recently changed my phone network (new SIM) to Sure a relativity new phone network in Jersey (Cable and Wireless). When the SIM was first put in the phone connected to network but would not send SMS (error straight away). I checked the APN list and this was blank. I got the APN settings from the website and tried to add these (getting warning cannot detect SIM) but it would not save.
SIM works fine in Galaxy Nexus Stock 4.3 and S3 using CM11 - cannot to network and APNs visible + text/data works.
So I installed CM7 and CM10.1 and with these the phone would not connect to the network at first. However when I do in to search for networks a couple of times it finds SURE and connects. Adding APN gives no error messages but this will not save. Using APN tools from play store they say "You SIM card cannot be used" Sim state "UNKNOWN" + cannot detect operator code etc so it seems to be an issue reading some of the SIM. But when connected to network I can make calls and receive texts. I have tried messing with the GSM only, auto WCDMA settings in phone information and makes no difference.
I am on baseband 5.11.05.27.
Any ideas what could be causing these issues? I really think its an issue with the phone reading 'some' data from the SIM. The phone shop said we do sometimes have these issues with older phones and i should change my phone
Any help appreciated!
Bridgstfer
BUMP as I really need help - cannot send SMS or get data
Any ideas - should i try different radio?
Firstly upgrade radio to the latest one, as the one you have is not the latest. Secondly, try latest evervolv nightly, as it is based on kitkat and maybe it will help. Try these and post results.

Hi there,
Thanks for these suggestions - it has taken me a while because of USB driver issues but I have finally flashed the latest Radio 5.17.05.23 with a Stock HTC ROM and this did not make any difference - still says No SIM card when opening APNs. Then flashed to latest Evervolv 4.4 and just like CM before it will not let me save APNs and actually says 'No SIM card - C&W" on the lock screen.
Any other ideas - really seems like the phone cannot read the SIM properly. Works fine with other SIMs and the SIM works fine in other phones. Have 2 x HTC desires and same issue so must be problem with this model?!
Thanks
Bridgstfer
No other thoughts guys? Is this just a weird one where the HTC is too old?

[Solved] IMEI showing as Unknown - No service

Hi everyone.
Recently I have had some issues where sim cards are not working on my phone. At first I thought it was an issue with the sim cards but when I tried the sim in a different phone, it worked fine. I tried numerous restarts, taking the sim out and placing it back in (in case there was an issue with the contacts/sim tray) but this has not solved the issue. By chance I was looking at the phone identity menu and noticed that the IMEI and the IMEI SV fields both say unknown but the device serial number is fine.
I restarted the phone into download mode and checked the System info menu and IMEI number is displayed there but for some reason it is missing in the actual android OS hence I cant connect to the mobile network to make calls etc.
This all started recent after I had come back from abroad (had been using a foreign sim) and tried to use my UK sim. Up until that point, the phone worked fine with the UK and foreign sim. After inserting my UK sim, there was no signal. I got home and tried the sim in my other phone and it worked fine.
I have not modified the phone in anyway (other than flashing an official RUU to fix a boot loop issue - see here ) and it is boot locked and not rooted. After fixing the bootloop issue, I have applied all available OTAs that my phone detected automatically which upgraded the android version to 7.0 (OS 4.28.401.3).
I have tried factory resetting using the menu (not recovery mode) and this has not solved the issue. Any ideas as to how I can fix this IMEI issue?
Many thanks
Rob
Have you checked the apn settings are correct?. Have you checked other UK sim cards in your device that are known to be working?. Do you use a simcard adapter?.

Yep.. tried other simcards thats work in other phones but they wernt working on my phone.. most likely due to the missing IMEI. I also noticed that the colour of the icons on the pulldown tray were red instead of blue and the phone was sluggish when toggling wifi on and off or entering/leaving Airplane mode.
I managed to fix the issue in the end by downloading an RRU and flashing it from SD card. Everything works ok now.
Thanks for your contribution :good:
