Build your own XDA start page! - About xda-developers.com

I created my own start page so I have quick access to multiple forums right off the start, and decided to share a basic version of my page with editing instructions to modify it and create your own!
All you need is very basic HTML reading skill, and follow instructions.
To start here is my basic page that is posted below to mod yourself. It contains Samsung Captivate Phone and Android OS forums in the same place, and edited some of the top buttons, and removed the live content as it cannot be live, run from your pc.

EDITING INSTRUCTIONS
These instructions wont work exactly for mesh version above. that takes basic html knowledge.
Notepad++ is a great multi-functional notepad application. i use it.
to edit/ add other devices/ OS es:
open the .html file you downloaded below in text editor
Go to the forum you want to add on xda (eg. Captivate http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=703 ) note the 703 for captivate - ### later
right click page > veiw source (in IE edit menu > view source )
scroll down and find <!-- sub-forum list -->
copy THAT AND everything down to and including <!-- / sub-forum list -->
paste into html document under previous appropriate <!-- / sub-forum list -->
near the beggining of paste, under <!-- new category search --> look for line (where ### is your fourm number )
Code:
<li id="forumsearch" class="menucontrol">Search this Forum<img src="http://media.xda-developers.com/images/forumbuttonview.png" class="alignright" style="margin-right:10px;" alt=""/> <script type="text/javascript"> vbmenu_register("forumsearch", true); </script></li>
and replace with
Code:
<li id="forumsearch" class="menucontrol">Search this Forum<img src="http://media.xda-developers.com/images/forumbuttonview.png" class="alignright" style="margin-right:10px;" alt=""/></li>
once again ### is YOUR WANTED forum number
use text editor " find and replace " search for <a href=" replace with <a href="http://forum.xda-developers.com/
then run a search for <a href="http://forum.xda-developers.com// <<--note double // get rid of extra! *might happen*
then run a search for <a href="http://forum.xda-developers.com/http://forum.xda-developers.com/ <<--note double everything - get rid of extra! *might happen*
look for all references of <div class="forumstats"> and delete that line and all lines down to the SECOND NEXT </div> there should be one set per fourm per sub fourm added. usually 5 sets per subforum
look for and delete the 2 lines
Code:
<div class="forumheader-last">Last Post</div>
<div class="forumheader-stats">Stats</div>
save file.
test

This is cool, but how is this better than going from your User Control Panel (which is what I do)? I subscribe with no e-mail to anything I post in, and subscribe to all the subforums I want to follow. I'm just curious, if there's an advantage to your method, I'll go for it

not sure about you moderators but i cant subscribe to sub-forums. only threads. thats why one of the edited brown buttons at the top of my start page is "subscribed threads" because i use that too, but like quick access to multiple forum areas too, thats what the start page is for.

edit, just found adding single sub-forums, but unable to add grouped sets of forums for devices, as it shows in my page...

Ah, yes, I get it, I do like the 'Subscribed thread' button being at the top, rather than at the bottom of current subscribed threads in the UCP. I'll play around with it and see what I can come up with - thank you for making me learn new things

i originally learned HTML when i was 12... back in 97' when web pages with "frames" were the big thing. lol. pre-javasript webpages.... thats where i was able to understand xml without learning it so many years later.

thanks man! this is really useful. modding it myself now!

Must say that this is nice. Time to tinker on the go as I always do.

i have a reqest if someones up to it and not to bizzy ? can some one make one with wp7 dev and hd2 fourms only?
those are the only sections i check freqently and i dont think im the only one!

sure here you go.

O,SO long ,I will watch it very slowly~~good

Thanks, I just make one for my Xperia arc

This is a great idea! I've modded it to my liking a couple times now adding and removing things as needed.
Thanks for posting it.

Thanks, this is great

HOW TO: Start message at top

Heroes!
When I open a message (sms, pushmail, windows live, etc) it opens almost at the top of the message, but not entirely. So I have to scroll to the top of the message to view the To-list, the Cc-list, the time the message was received etc.
Does anybody know how to set messages to start at the top?
Thnx in advance.
Arend

I'm not sure I understand where that line is supposed to be placed either. Is it placed within the <head></head> or <body></body> or what?
No ...

HTC Plus! plugin not working? Here's help

- install rltoday instead.
link: http://rotlaus-software.de/projects/rltoday
- create the folder: \Program Files\rlToday\plus
- copy the attached file (Clock.png) into the created directory.
- create a text file and name it skin.xml
- copy following text into it and save:

You may have to change fonts and icons.
Please read the rltoday instructions.
You must delete the following line in case "AlarmClock" is not installed:
<OnClick File="/Windows/AlarmClock.exe"/>
Click to expand...
Click to collapse
keywords: HTCPlus / HTC-Plus /HTC Plus!

I love those icons.
Is there a way I can get them without using the rltoday software, or are they part of that package?
Those icons are part of a linux (Gnome) icon theme.
You can download the whole theme here:
http://www.gnome-look.org/content/show.php/BuuF-Deuce-iconset?content=46201
Oh, rad.
Coincidentally enough, I dual-boot into ubuntu 7.10 with gnome. I'm sensing a unified theme here...
NIce one was lookin for that for a long time, since the org. HTC-Plus wont run on my touch ...

Push Page Icons on the Internet Tab

Hi everyone,
I've been looking around to find a way to modify the icons from the Push Page buttons in the Internet Tab.
The images seem to be in .QTC format witch I've never heard off...
Can someone tell me how I can open/modified those files?
Here the xml configuration file of the internet tab:
(\ApplicationData\Manila\InternetPortal-fr-FR.xml).
Code:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-16"?>
<InternetPortal>
<IncludeUserFavorites>True</IncludeUserFavorites>
<Banner
DefaultImagePath="\Windows\HTC\Assets\Images\InternetPortal\banner.qtc"
SelectedImagePath="\Windows\HTC\Assets\Images\InternetPortal\banner_selected.qtc"
Text="Lancer le Navigateur"
Width="480"
Height="215" />
<OperatorLinks>

InternetPortal-en-US.xml - Where it go?

All of the instructions for editing the browser menu reference changing InternetPortal-en-US.xml.
It's nowhere to be found on mine so I have to assume it's been changed on the latest TP2's.
Any suggestions?
Here's a link for reference:

Nevermind. I think I found it in \windows\27c65cbd_manila.
Will post more after some playing .
FYI
Using notepad I was able to add more items to the Browser menu by editing \windows\27c65cbd_manila.
I should probably mention I had to create the .qtc image file for Google Maps.
