So Galaxy Note 2 has now got 5 models to be released shortly, here is the breakdown

Interesting question.. I think that as far as you dont flash a different radio(assuming that the main difference its the band) you would be good to go.. an example of this happens on the Gtab 7+ variants.. mine its 6800n(different band for south america) and i can flash any rom from the other variants 6800/6800h no problem.. just keep my radio..
There is two international versions:
N7100: 3G only
N7105: LTE
And yes they will most likely get the same forum with seperate development sub-forums.
One thing I wonder about, here in Sweden the LTE frequencies is 800/900/2600 MHz.
It means that when we get LTE it will be different from the international version and developer support will be non-existent or can we flash international roms if the only difference is LTE frequencies?

I still can´t understand the fact, taht every provider in the US needs its own model...whats the thing about it? Everywhere in the world = same model over hundreds of provider...

Each carrier wants to have complete control on what is in the phone and what they want to cripple. I'm heavily considering the International version this time but will wait for all the details to come first.

carriers use different frequencies and network technologies (CDMA or GSM)
I hope they do have a separate one, as they did with the Galaxy S3...it was really confusing at times.

Soooo, its (worldwide) just Verizon & Sprint (or let´s say it´s JUST sprint) that causes this fragmentation?
i have never bought an international version either but if it comes out sooner i will since i would like to travel a lot...
will the international version for any reason not be as good as the eventual verizon version for me in regards to anything....4g speed, roming, etc...

No, there is also fragmentation between AT&T and T-mobile versions. They use different frequencies for 3G (HSPA+) so an AT&T phone will not work on T-mobile and vice versa. You'd need a pentaband phone (e.g. Galaxy Nexus) to cover AT&T, T-mobile, and international gsm networks.

I just received my Note 2 it is on Rogers.
I have unlocked it but it is not yet rooted.
I have just traveled to US and am using my T-mobile SIM card and no matter what settings I try I can't get anything other than EDGE data even though I am paying for 4g.
I was under the impression that All models of the note 2 In North America (not including Verizon) were identical and would if unlocked work on all networks equally.
Seems this is not the case. The TMobile site lists different choice for the LTE bands than Rogers. Yet the Telus branded model on their website shows the same version of LTE as on Tmobile.
Are the phones actually different? Or is it the firmware of the Radio inside such that if I rooted and flashed the Tmobile modem it would then allow me to use the faster speed data network on my unlocked Rogers phone but on the T-mobile network?
No. Our model doesn't support the frequency that T-Mobile uses for 3G

No the hardware doesn't support it so a different modem wouldn't work. Our phones (Bell, Telus, Rogers) support LTE on 1700/2100, but not HSPA+, so until T-Mobile launches their LTE network you'll be on edge only
Edit: There are some areas where they are reforming their 1900 spectrum to HSPA+, so you could only connect in an area where they have done that already

I know that Samsung has released an LTE compatible version of the S3, the I9305 (LTE 800 / 1800 / 2600). So my question is, when the LTE network becomes available and more prevalent for T-mobile, will I be able to get LTE speeds with an unlocked I9305 S3? Thanks.

As I recall, T-Mobile doesn't offer LTE. Or maybe they have started recently and I just haven't realized it. But nonetheless, you can use the i9305, on T-Mobile seeing as it is an unlocked gsm phone. So it'll go as fast as T-Mobile will let it.
EDIT: Just kidding, T-Mobile DOES have 4G LTE, supposedly the fastest out there too.

Yeah tmobile 4g lte beat att's and verizon in a test from cnet! But you have to make sure that your phone supports tmobiles lte bands. I dont know yet what bands tmobile use for their lte

That's not all there is to it... They launched LTE-Advanced right off the bat. It is highly optimized over LTE revision 0.
OP, you would not even get HSPA+ on that phone if there isn't support for the 1700 band but you definitely will not get LTE based on the bands you posted.

Thanks for all the responses, this is good to know. I was always leery about unlocked phones claiming to be LTE compatible... this is why I would prefer buying a t-mobile specific LTE phone so I am 100% certain I will get LTE speeds.

T-Mobile is unique because they use the AWS 1700 band for LTE and 3G/HSPA. Verizon and at&t use 700MHz for their LTE which is the problem. We should start seeing a bunch of phones launch with AWS LTE this year. I would just wait and see what comes down the pipeline.

How many bands for GSM, HSDPA and LTE does the T-Mobile Galaxy S4 (M919) have? Are they the same bands as the International S4 LTE (I9505)?
Based on the wikipedia page for Samsung Galaxy S4, the model I9505 has more LTE bands than the T-Mobile M919 version, is that completely true and technically proven?
Most of the websites state that the M919 and the I9505 has the same bands for all GSM, HSDPA and LTE.

Tmobile uses AWS for 4g LTE which requires 2100/1700 frequency. The GT-i9505 only supports 2100mhz i believe, which is not enough.
I think the GT-i9505 supports one of the several frequencies that Tmobile uses for HDSPA, so HDSPA coverage may be a bit spotty with the phone. This was referenced off the top of my head, but I had done some research online about this before as I had similar questions as you.

Hey so looking at the wiki that you guys posted up there it says following for the tmobile version: 700 MHz (Band 17), CLR, AWS, PCS, IMT, IMT-E
now i somehow got my hand on one of these devices in europe for rather cheap and totally new, so im confused now what these CLR, AWS, PCS, IMT, IMT-E are, does any of these stand for any other than the 700mhz band? like 1700/1800mhz? or in other words, is it possible to get lte to work in europe with the tmobile usa s4? Can the modem perhaps be flashed with an i9505 one and than get the additional bands or is the hardware actualyl that different (as in antennas and amplifiers)?
Its not really a dealbreaker for me as LTE in my country is quite some time away but still, would like to know.

In simple words, the LTE bands are (not in order): Band 1 (2100), Band 2 (1900), Band 4 (1700), Band 5 (850), Band 7 (2600), Band 17 (700), so we have the LTE bands available for the T-Mobile version: 700, 850, 1700, 1900, 2100 and 2600.

No, you can't flash a I9505 rom to a M919 device, if you do, you will brick it. The best option for you to get 800 and 1800 frequencies is to go for the GT-I9505, it's the Samsung Galaxy S4 LTE version, and it has the following bands for LTE Cat 3 (800 / 850 / 900 / 1,800 / 2,100 / 2,600 MHz). Yes, it seems that the I9505 has LTE bands for each region, it's not dedicated for America (North, Central and South), it also support Europe and Asia, while it doesn't contain most bands for a specific region, it's a world phone, unlucky doesn't fully support T-Mobile 4G UTMS network (1700/2100), but still a good option for those who travel to other continents.

Flashing just the modem doesn't work either?
I haven't tried flashing modems into another devices that don't correspond to their own. I can't help you with that answer at this time

i asked that because i have an att atrix, on which its possible to flash european modems without a problem, thanks for your time man, i hope someone will try this and it works
Question...are all those other things i've been hearing about other ppl successfully getting 4g reception after doing something to either with the aws band's, or to the software true? does anyone know for sure? i'm very thankful for any input, as i've been hearing so many conflicting things when it comes to the i9505 and getting 4g service with t-mobile, i just want a proven answer :/

I bought my S4 T-mobile (SGH-M919) in USA. And it is fine working in Spain with 4G. But when i have upgraded it to Marshmallow then only works with HSPA(H+) as better. Change baseband? i am not sure to do it...mmmm
Will the factory unlocked M8 support everything radio wise that the T-Mobile M8 will? I'm currently able to get one considerably cheaper than a T-Mobile one and just wanted to be sure.
I believe the unlocked is missing the 1700 band that hspa+ runs on. If you're in a reframed 1900 band area then you're okay. Otherwise you lose hspa+

It will work if you supercid you phone. we don't have tmobile radio yet, I'm using att m8 on tmobile service without any problem but will flash tmobile radio when available.

Neither of the unlocked or Dev M8s will give you HSPA on AWS, so you’d have to be in an 850 MHz area. If you got the Dev edition, you’d be limited to 21 Mbps.
For LTE, the unlocked EMEA version won’t work at all and the Asia version will only work in areas where T-Mobile is transmitting on 700 MHz. The Dev edition will at least give you 700 and 1900 MHz, but I think T-Mobile currently has most of their LTE on AWS.

By reading the info in the last few posts about what bands/etc are supported and what speeds (HSPA, AWS, 4G, LTE) does this mean the Dev version is physically incapable of getting 100% service (edge, aws,...their whole network) on T-Mobile because of a lack of an actual component inside the phone? Or is it not "supported" because the firmware ( I.e....the radio software) is not included?
I guess my next logical question would be since I'm unlocked, s-off and superCID, would it be possible to turn my phone into a virtually identical T-Mobile phone? Or is T-Mobile's version of the M8 not even going to fully work on their network... Areas that haven't been refarmed yet.

I guess my next logical question would be since I'm unlocked, s-off and superCID, would it be possible to turn my phone into a virtually identical T-Mobile phone? Or is T-Mobile's version of the M8 not even going to fully work on their network... Areas that haven't been refarmed yet.

This is what my post above was addressing.
The Dev edition is physically incapable of getting 100% service in all of T-Mobile's markets due to lack of hardware, yes. Therefore, it is impossible to turn it into an identical phone from the standpoint of radio compatibility.

The Verizon version is a little different than the T-Mobile version. The Verizon M8 is a little more limited with its 3G/HSPA since it only goes up to 14.4 Mbps vs. 42 Mbps with the two unlocked versions and the T-Mobile version. It has more LTE bands than the T-Mobile version, but at least one person on the Verizon board is having problems connecting to LTE on his Verizon M8 abroad.
Just in case you were referring to the Dev edition when you said “carrier unlocked,” those are different as well. I wouldn’t recommend using anything but the Verizon M8 on Verizon’s network since only the Verizon and Sprint models have CDMA radios and Sprint’s model doesn’t have the LTE radio to use Verizon’s LTE network (or vice-versa).

Are you able to connect to all T-Mobile bands? I want to pickup a used m8 but the T-Mobile variant is $100 more expensive than all the other carrier's versions. Does anyone know if I could pickup a used AT&T/Sprint/Verizon m8 and use it on T-Mobile without sacrificing frequency bands or anything?

I know this is a really old thread, but I recently switched over from At&t to T-Mobile and similar questions about radios etc. Doing some internet searches I found Tom's Hardware review of the HTC One M8 (sorry don't have time to find the link), but according to the review the At&t and the US GPE version are the same version. Furthermore, both phones can fully support the AWS band for T-Mobile, however, At&t elected to lock the AWS band for the HSPA+ to refrain customers from unlocking and switching.
I was getting spotty service around my house, and just installed the T-Mobile radio and ROM on to my At&t M8. I will report on the performance once I have some time with the new set up.

How is this working for you? I have a vzw m8 and I'm over on T-Mobile, now mostly everything works,except for 4glte, it will work and then cut off after a bit, or if I travel between towers I loose connection and it won't try to find another tower, band or any other... So I get most out of this, just not all. And I was wondering which radio I used... Last time I tried a T-Mobile radio, I lost all connectivity. Btw I'm soff and supCID

Haha I know the pains of using a vzw device on gsm networks I had a LG g2 Verizon wireless and ran it on t-mobile I had to sell it had to reboot the radio about twice a week as well as take out SIM card

Hey my phone is doing great! I even managed to pick up some better HSPA+ around the house - although I can't confirm if it is on the AWS band.
In terms of flashing the radio on the Verizon M8, I am highly doubtful that it will produce any valuable results. The CDMA version of HTC's always differs significantly from their GSM counterparts. If you look at the supported bands for the Verizon M8, there is no support for the T-Mobile UTMS AWS band - which is probably why you are dropping signal while switching towers.
