My findings - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

I've been using my SGN now about a week.
Excellent phone with only a few issues that I can find.
I had the ghost volume yesterday but I turned on and off and not had it since.
I seem to be missing my return button(next line) in my text message service, could be me missing something but when I send a text I don't get the large arrow at the bottom right. Its there on all other input methods.
Keep picking the phone up upside down.
I can't use the phone without a case really really slippy.
Other than that the phone is lightening fast responsive and the screen is too die for.
Get one , I love mine......
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA App

Great to see a well written post of your thoughts.
Thank you

My findings are the same as yours apart from the Vol issue, I havnt had it (im on Orange)
Phone is slippy
I too kept picking it up upside down but after now 3 days im instinctivly feeling for the hump on the back to orientate that to the bottom to get it the right way up.
I too dont have an enter key for texting, wtf?
In general use like browsing, the back round the camera gets really hot.
Phone is lightning fast but ive had far too many lock ups already, half a dozen ish. I hope the issues get resolved, I'll keep forwarding error reports. Im sure its just teething probs with the new OS. I hope its not the phone, im not exactly sold on Samsung quality.

Got my Samsung Galaxy Nexus last 18th of November and these are my comments
The Bad
- had that volume bug - awaiting for the update
- can not make video call, even with skype front cam not working (pls update)
- mp3 songs can not be set as ringtone
- some of my apps not working, like viber, currency converter
- no flash support - awaiting for it
- silent button needed in the power widget
- low volume, can't really hear it if phone is in my pocket
The good: http://media.xda-developers.com/images/icons/icon14.gif
- super fast
- nice panoramic mode in the camera
- camera is fast, not a problem with 5 mpx
- lovely screen res
- unique face unlock (but face not detected in low light/dark areas/at night time)
- battery lasted for 13 hours (depends on the user)
http://media.xda-developers.com/images/icons/icon11.gif i love this phone

MP3 can be set as ringtones, BUT they need to be in the ringtones directory. Workable idea is to use Ringdroid (or similar) to crop the portion of the MP3 you want from your Music directory and save it separately in Ringtones.
Plenty of widgets to control volume/profiles. Audiomanager Pro lets you create profile widgets. I use Extended Controls which lets you build your own widget with exactly the controls you want on it. It's not perfect (as it hasn't been updated for ICS yet) - GPS toggle and APN toggle take you into the settings menus - but it has been (and will be once updated) a top notch widget.
Volume - Try Volume+.

My findings:
Pro:
- Great screen, however, I really dont think it's a big leap in quality over my old Galaxy S, let alone the S2.
- Great speed, hasnt slowed down once, nice and fast and no crashing.
- Good interface. Love ICS
- Good reception and call quality
Cons:
- Low ringer volume and notification sounds
- LED notifications only flash once, would be nice for it to keep flashing intermittenly so you know you've got a notification, rather than having to turn it on.
- The pull down notification bar does not have quick access to the power bar (as per Galaxy S). That was really useful, so if you're in an app you can turn on Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, GPS etc, rather than having to go to the home page and doing it from there. Very annoying!
- No native video player to recognise .avi, .mkv files. Had to buy Dice Player.
- No Swype!!!
- No return key when texting
- No external storage
- Annoying browser experience. If you want to go to a bookmark, you have to press a button to go to the tabs, then another button to go to favourites, then another to select the favourite! Very poor process.
- Poor widgets for the homescreen (I want a nice looking clock). Wont pick up my location automatically, either, for weather updates.
- Poor camera application.
I realise the phone is in it's infancy, with many updates to come, but coming from a very accomplished phone, it's taking some getting used to, and some things which are a step backwards!

This is a touchwiz thing. however lots of apps do this in market place. I use notifications shortcuts.

Again lots of apps in market place to have a clock. I use one more clock - had hundreds of themes.

Android has never had a carriage return button on the stock keyboard for text messages. Manufacturer modifications to Android may have this feature, but that would be down to the specific variant (HTC Sense, Samsung TouchWiz, etc).

This was true with Nexus S too. The solution is to create a folder "/media/audio/ringtones/" and copy your mp3s there. The other option is to use an app.
Hope this helps...

please help with some newb questions

Playing with the Desire rom on my HTC HD2 and have hit some questions that I need to google for answers. I'm hoping for some help to see what normal is & what can be tweaked & so on.
- When my device is off and I get a sms page, I get a sound notification & a vibration - but the screen doesn't turn on. Is this normal or a bug in the way I am using the rom on my HD2?
- When I turn on the device, on the lock screen I see a bit of the missed page - but no way I can see to jump to the sms message. I can just unlock the phone & manually go see what it was. Would like a 1-step solution. This normal?
- The hardware buttons at the bottom of my device can light up (and do in Windows Mobile) but not running Droid. Once again, dunno if it's a bug in the way I'm using Droid or if the Desire simply doesn't have light up hardware buttons.
- I check a few web pages daily for WinMo news & new apps. Anyone have recommendations of must read Android web pages?
I know I had some others that I've forgotten already.
I will be researching these questions myself (as 3 kids 3 & under permit) & if I find answers I will post them myself. Thanks for your time.
First two are normal and you just need to slide down the notifications tray at the top to get to messages.

Thanks. Much better then trying to figure out a bug.
Good time for me to look into lock screen replacements. Any suggestions?
Edit:
Made this my research project of the night - going to test out WidgetLocker Lockscreen.
Program launcher question - I dislike the big list of programs all mixed together. I'd like to make a folder/subfolder structure so I click on the main button, then pick games (possibly then breaking it down into game types, etc).
Are their apps that replace the program launcher portion without replacing the whole home screen?
If not, how about a program that is just a stand alone launcher? IE - I run the program from a shortcut & get the feature I'm looking for?
Found one that does it perfectly - 'Folder Organizer'
Also like the WidgetLocker lockscreen. Love using the Photo Gallery widgets that cycle through pix every 30 minutes.
Little by little I'm getting there.
I took me a while to get used to it too but you have to adopt the homescreens for your favourite apps where you can have folders, icons, widgets, and shortcuts. I only ever dive into the app drawer for the odd app I rarely used but like Calculator.
If you click Menu > List it'll alphabetise it and you can scroll using the bar too!
Just want to give a couple of suggestions for sites to check out to keep up-to-date on Android news.
www.engadget.com - Sure, they cover a vast number of topics but I find that they report a lot of the top Android news as well. Plus, it's always good to stay informed with other tech stuff.
www.pocketnow.com - These guys used to be strictly a Windows Mobile site. But they've since expanded their coverage to include Android and Apple stuff. Lots of good videos on their youtube channel.
www.androidcentral.com - Strictly Android-only site. They give decent App recommendations from time to time.
Quick question - when I pull the power to my phone (say after charging @ night) - it turns on! Any setting to keep it from turning itself on when I pull the power out?
I've never had it turn on if it was off!

Some WP7 "Mango" annoyances (LG Optimus 7, Build 7.10.7720.68)

(Note: these are some items that I've noticed on my phone, and may well be due to the fact that I have an unofficial Mango RTM build on my LG Optimus 7. I may be running final code, but the release didn't come from LG themselves, which may or may not be an issue.)
Just wanted to post some "annoyances" that I've noticed with my LG Optimus 7 running the Mango 7720.68 build. Perhaps these issues are unique to my phone? I don't know.
Also, I'm concerned that with some of these "bugs", if in fact they are bugs, they cannot be patched outside of major WP7 releases. Is this still the case, or has this been changed moving forward?
Finally, I'm a *big* fan of WP7, so don't take this list as a bashing. I could post much, much more on the things that I really, truly enjoy about WP7. It's a great OS, and I enjoy it much more than the iPhone 3GS that I owned, or the three Android handsets I had. I've used it all, and I prefer WP7
==========================================
In no particular order:
MUSIC GOES "BACK" TO REVIEWS
This is a strange one, but here's what happens: I open the Music+Videos Hub, select Music, choose an artist, choose an album, and finally select a song -- like as if I want to start with track #3, rather than playing the album from the beginning. If I lock my phone and unlock it again, I'll see the song playing (as expected). If I click the Back button, however, it shows me the "Reviews" screen for that artist, rather than the Song listing of Albums listing. Very strange and obnoxious -- plus it creates an extra "Back" press that I shouldn't have to do. Argh.
LOCK SCREEN MUSIC CONTROLS AREN'T IMMEDIATELY RESPONSIVE
If I'm playing music (screen locked) and then hit the Power button to see the lock screen music controls, I usually have to wait a moment before the FWD, BACK or PAUSE/PLAY buttons are truly usable. Even better, sometimes the control itself will move as if it's been properly pressed, but it won't actually perform the action. I have to hit it a second time.
SCREEN OFF > CAMERA BUTTON ON ACTION SOMETIMES ALLOWS OLDER PICTURES TO BE VIEWED
My understanding is that with Mango you can press + hold the camera button (if the screen is off) to launch the camera -- fine, this is expected -- at that you are not supposed to be able to see older (than this current session) pictures you've taken if you slide from the left to the right. I don't like the feature, personally, but I understand the "security" measure behind it. To be honest, I think that feature should be a toggle
Anyhow, I notice that sometimes this process doesn't let me see ANY of my older pictures, other times I can see SOME older pictures (like ones taken today only, and other times -- like right now as I tested it -- I can see ALL of my old photos. In all cases, the screen was off and I held the camera button down to bring up the camera interface. It's just not consistent.
SEARCH BUTTON ALWAYS GOES TO BING SEARCHWith the initial release of WP7 *and* with NoDo, the Search button was context sensitive -- it would bring up Search with the People Hub if you were in the People Hug, or Search with the Marketplace if you were in the Marketplace, etc., but that's changed with Mango. Now the Search button always goes to Bing -- no matter where you are. I guess they think this is more consistent, but I prefer having the context sensitive Search button. Perhaps a long-press of the Search button could go to Bing instead? Personal preference, I suppose.
HITTING VOL WHILE HITTING POWER RESULTS IN AUTO VOLUME DOWN
Difficult one to reproduce, but it's happened to me about four times. Screen is off + music is playing. I'll accidentally hit the volume button while hitting the Power button to turn the screen on, and all of a sudden the volume starts turning down by itself until hitting "0". I can't turn the volume back up again until I turn off the screen and turn it back on. Weird.
PICTURES HUB BACKGROUND PHOTO ONLY SHOWS FAVORITESI love that Mango will change the Pictures Hub background photo automatically. Very cool, and the slight movement of the photo is a nice touch as well. That said, I added a single picture to the Favorites portion of the Pictures Hub, and soon found that the background photo was only that particular picture and wouldn't change to anything else. I finally had to add some other pictures to the Favorites section so that it would change to something else. Strange, if you ask me, and not expected behavior.
MUSIC + VIDEOS "HISTORY" PORTION LINKS TO SINGLE SONG INSTEAD OF ALBUM
File this under personal preference, I suppose, but if I open the Music+Videos Hub, select an artist, select an album, and then choose a track directly (rather than starting the entire album from the top), it is then added to the History pivot within the Music+Videos Hub as a single track, rather than the album. So, if I open the Music Hub again, pivot over to History and scroll down, I see what looks like the album, but when I press on it to play, it plays only that single song -- and the rest of that album isn't even in the list. I have to then click on the artist name, go to that artist, click on the album, and then choose the full album or track that I want to hear.
NO WAY TO GET BACK TO ARTIST/ALBUMS LISTING USING BACK (IN MANY CASES)
Coming from the Zune HD (about a year ago), I liked that I could always get back to the song listing, album listing, or artist listing -- no matter what. This isn't true with WP7. For instance, I'm in my email and then hit the Volume button to bring up the media controls, I can actually click on the artist's name right there (handy trick!) to go to that song or songlist. Unfortunately, if I then wanted to change albums or artists, I can't simply click the Back button. I have to click Home, scroll down (in my case), hit the Music Hub, and dig in from there. I *really* wish there was always a way to go backward in the Music Hub to view the songlist, album list, or artist listing. Not possible in Mango (or previous WP7 versions, to be fair).
RECENT VIEW IN THE PEOPLE HUB SHOULD BE DISPLAYED VERTICALLY
The horizontal pivoting in WP7 is very nice, but with Mango some of those lists became vertical -- a wise move, if you ask me. For instance, in the Music Hub you'll notice that the History and New music pivots are both shown vertically, which is easier to use. Unfortunately, the Recent view pivot in the People Hub is still fully horizontal, rather than a vertical list that you scroll. I'm not sure why this is, and it really appears to have been overlooked. Not consistent.
WIRELESS NETWORK ICON SHOULD BE CLICKABLE
Personal preference, but getting to the wifi networks control takes too long. You should be able to simply press on the icon in the notification bar (when viewable) to get to that control. Some would argue that the other icons should be clickable as well, but I don't (personally) care much about that.
GAPLESS PLAYBACK FOR MUSIC
Why is this missing? Honestly, I don't understand. How difficult is this feature to implement. It should be standard for ALL music devices/players everywhere.
==========================================
Thanks for reading,
Yip
The photos thing makes sense. I really don't think that's an issue, and it really shouldn't even require explanation.
WP7 needs a Notification pane with quick controls, period. There's only so much you can put on the home screen before the experience starts to go south.
A lot of the music hub related stuff is just sad. They want to replace Zune HD with WP7 devices, but they always seem to regress in usability going from old product to nw product. It's really unfortunate.

i agree with this. it forces you to tap the screen twice just to get past this. annoying
Not only is it annoying as ****, but it's wildly inconsistent now... They need to fix that, ASAP. I know they love their panes view and like showing stuff "running off the screen," which is an interesting and oftentimes attractive effect. But they really need to make conscious decisions IRT usability.
For the wireless network icon.. you might want to check an app called Network Dashboard, which does pretty much exactly what you want. It's free too.
for the " SCREEN OFF > CAMERA BUTTON ON ACTION SOMETIMES ALLOWS OLDER PICTURES TO BE VIEWED", don´t you have password set? Because if you do, it lets you only shoot images, not view them until you unlock the device

Again... I understand what it's SUPPOSED to do, but it's not working that way for me. From the screen off, if I press the Camera button to wake the phone and take a photo, it should *only* show the photos I'm currently taking -- and nothing before that. Problem is, sometimes it's doing that, other times it's not. I even tested it while writing this post, and got two different results. Wha??

I have to agree with this. Although I like a *lot* of what the Music Hub offers, I feel it's mostly a step backward from the Zune HD.

I don't have a password set. Never have. In fact, this "security feature" should really only kick in if you *do* have a password set -- so that folks can't open your phone via the Camera button and view a bunch of your photos. If you don't have a password, though -- such as in my case -- it's a pretty silly security element, if you ask me.
Again, it is inconsistent.

Thanks. I'll check that out.
Music goes back to reviews:
I was unable to replicate this on my Focus. Not sure what's up for you on that one.
Lock Screen Delays:
Yeah, I have this problem as well- not just for music controls, but for everything on the lock screen. Takes a second to be visible. I heard there was going to be a related firmware patch to fix this.
Camera Button, See pictures:
It's supposed to launch the camera app, so you should have access to the other pictures in the hub if you don't have a password set? I guess? And no access if the PIN is set? Not sure what the intention is here. I've tried a few times and I have also seen inconsistency in how this actually works out. Sometimes I can see other pictures, sometimes not. (I also do not have a PIN set.)
Volume:
Never had this issue.
Wireless Control
Neat idea, wonder how it would work out in practice. In the meantime, try out Connectivity Shortcuts in the marketplace. I'm using that now.
I would be curious to know if the inconsistent camera behavior persists when you do have the PIN set. And, if it behaves correctly (and consistently) with the PIN set, what happens if you then remove it? Does it revert to the inconsistent behavior, or does it then begin to behave as it should?
As for the network connectivity idea, it is what many of us have been requesting for months. Tapping on the status bar when it is visible (or more likely tap-and-hold, to prevent interfering with apps) could pop up a menu that shows the current state of each of the network settings, with a button on the right to toggle that setting on or off. The shortcuts app is a nice workaround, but having the feature built into the OS would be much better. Oh, and the menu could include the battery percentage as well, and a button to turn battery saver mode on or off.
I have removed all pics from my favorite section... So I guess when I get mango it will show all pics and not just blank...
And the history section in music and apps only play that particLar song in my nodo too... Its annoying .. Sometimes it shows same album cover for two tracks played from same album as a history... They should have made it to play feomthat album beginning ...

Interesting test. Again, in my mind it should 1) allow you access to your older pictures *if* no PIN is set, or 2) not allow access to your older pictures if a PIN is set.
My phone had been in my pocket for awhile, so I grabbed hit (screen is off), held the camera button, and allowed the camera to spring to life. I was, in fact, able to scroll back and see older Camera Roll photos. I then added a PIN, turned off the phone, held the Camera button, got the camera interface, and there was a "Lock" symbol in the lower-left corner, which I've only seen a few times. When I clicked on the "Lock" symbol, I was prompted for my PIN. After entering it, I could see my older photos.
Great. This is what I would expect from the phone, but this isn't what I'm seeing everytime. Now that I've toggled the PIN on and off again, we'll see if it sticks to one type of behavior. Still, it seems like a bug.

I don't necessarily mind if it plays that single song by default. I can see how some people would download an album, play a single song (their favorite, or whatever), and then expect that the History would like to that single song. Perhaps they want to keep playing it and have easy access to it? I don't know.
Regardless, it shouldn't look as if that's the only song in that album, which is what seems to be going on. Link to the song -- sure -- but if I then click the track list (below the album art), show me the rest of the songs in that album too.
As for only displaying favorite pictures in the Pictures Hub Background:
I often saw pictures there that weren't really that great and so I personally like the idea of only displaying ones favorites. This makes even more sense given that people very often complained of pictures being shown on their Start Screen they DID NOT WANT ANYONE to see (I guess they were talking of more private pictures).
As for Connectivity Shortcuts, Network Dashboard and the other Shortcut Apps that are emerging: if they are installed on the majority of phones I guess that will convince Microsoft that it really has to add this functionality at the System Level. I personally would like to have that menu bound to a long press of the power button (along with the swipe to turn off feature).

Good point. I guess it's only obnoxious when you have just a few Favorites, as I do, and get tired of seeing those same ones over and over.
Perhaps this could be a feature to Enable or Disable?
On my LG Optimus 7 the compass has stopped working since the update to Mango pre-release.
I was hoping to get a fix from LG with the final release but it doesn't seem the case...
Ok, I can survive without the compass but it really sucks!

[REF] List of my ICS/GNex gripes and complaints ...

I should preface this post with a comment simply stating that overall, I'm utterly pleased with my GNex device. The 4G speeds on Verizon's LTE are wonderful. The speed of the phone is overall wonderful. The display is perfect for me. But there are a few gripes that I feel could easily be corrected through an OTA update in upcoming versions of ICS. Anyone care to share and add more? Basically I'm looking to list things that can be resolved through updates to the phone's OS. Not through custom ROMs or Apps or overhauling the phone's manufacturing. I'm listing suggestions for ICS improvements really. Add what you like.
1) The stock dialer needs contact/name dialing. This is currently solved by replacing your stock dialer with free apps like exDialer (my personal favorite) but still... should be included in the stock dialer.
2) The homescreen longpress gesture should bring back the app/widget add options. Don't know why google went backwards with this option... maybe to satisfy mouse/keyboard compatibility for ICS? Either way, bring it back imo.
3) Include a softkey for search in the launcher, like most previous android phones' physical search button. I love the longpress feature of the search button for voice search options, especially for navigation, and I like in my thumb's reach (not in the damn upper right hand corner...)
4) Bluetooth. It just doesn't work correctly. It seems broken in several ways... if you use it, you know what I'm talking about. Fix it prease.
5) Settings/menu keys. Just make the thing available in the launcher on both sides, since some of us are lefties and some of us are righties. I know this is available through custom ROMs, but should be included. Hell, make the launcher customizable through the settings options in ICS. Seems simple enough to me.
6) Widgets. To me, this is one of the biggest things Android has over the iPhone. The widgets that come with ICS are simply lacking. Make more, especially around our google apps like Calendar and Gmail.
7) Volume, speakers, and ringtones. All the ringtones suck. All the alarm tones suck. The volume is too low. And the speakers are very tinny. I know this seems very opinionated... but does anyone disagree?

Google is trying to move away from the reliance on long press items and hidden menus. They're trying to move towards the use of an action bar and visual buttons for things. It helps make items more visually apparent and easier to use for the average person. They want to make actions less "you just have to know".
There are better ways to make this move than to take out the option completely, agreed? Catering to the masses isn't exactly the way best way to do it. They could leave the phone exactly the way it is by default and give us the option to change the launcher and enable these things if desired. That's my opinion... as longpress seems INCREDIBLY convenient for anyone that knows it exists. Hell if it were up to me, every icon should have an editable/bindable longpress command. If I longpress my dialer key... it should dial my number 1 contact. If I longpress my apps drawer, it should take me to my widgets. If I longpress my search button, it should bring up voice commands... etc.

1) Agreed! I'm using Touchpal Dialer, it's working out okay for me so far. This might actually be why Google is probably not doing a whole lot in this area, cuz you got the 3rd party dialers..
2) I actually don't use a whole lot of gadgets so can't comment on it. I just use the folders feature and so far i'm okay with it. Can't wait for Go Launcher to be fully ICSed so things like folders will work 100%. Currently if you uninstall an app, Go Launcher Ex doesn't remove its icon from the folders.
3) no comment. doesn't bother me that much.
4) Bluetooth is working fine for me.. I got the weird problem that I have to say last name and then first name in my car.. Not sure how to fix that but that's the only problem that I'm seeing. Bluetooth headsets seem to working fine too. I don't use bluetooth headphones to listen to music so can't comment there..
5) Agreed!
6) Regarding widgets, the only thing that I would like to see if a clock in a different timezone (let me pick a city/country). That's about the only type of widget that I'd use..
7) I don't have a problem w/ the ringtones.. as far as how loud it is, I think it's loud enough for me.

1) The stock dialer needs contact/name dialing. This is currently solved by replacing your stock dialer with free apps like exDialer (my personal favorite) but still... should be included in the stock dialer.

It is kind of a bother but the nexus one didn't have it either.
2) The homescreen longpress gesture should bring back the app/widget add options. Don't know why google went backwards with this option... maybe to satisfy mouse/keyboard compatibility for ICS? Either way, bring it back imo.

I like the reduction in long press options. There doesn't need to be 5 different ways to add a widget.

Yeah I noticed that too. Using custom notification sounds help
I would like gorilla glass for one.
Removal of the search and menu keys are kinda a game changer. Its up to the app developers to adjust.
I want the ability to hide the time it really detracts from nice clock Widgets. Also the battery icon should use numbers to represent power. That small icon just can't convey accurate information fast

Things i noticed about the 4.0.4 update " GSM GALAXY NEXUS "

I made this thread to mention the noticed changes of this update.
1. In the setting app you will find " Dock " option which is new !
2. the rotation speed is very much better as far
3. camera seems to be better ! " better quality " and faster .
4. no animation lag in the system app! <-- i hated that lag on 4.0.2
5. Am not sure about the battery , I'll test it today ! ( and it depends on the user )
6. I noticed that when you record a full HD video it runs slow !!? is that normal , even the 720p is the same.. the soind is so clear but the video looks laggy ! <--- have you guys noticed that ?
___
By all users here :
7. You can no longer press the volume rocker and tap the icon to put it in vibrate.
8. Holding the power button brings up power off, airplane mode and a volume toggle consisting of silent, vibrate and sound on
9. Gtalk icon has changed.
10. On the Messaging app the unread message counter is now smaller and the colour changed to white, instead of being ics-blue.
11. The browser is incredibly faster on rendering.
12. Now is possible to access the bookmarks from the quick controls on the browser.

Two bugs that annoyed me are fixed:
Calendar widget didn't show all-day items.
When a legacy app (with ... in bottom right corner) was open, it would also show (and unlock) on the lock screen.
14. Auto brightness is better than it was
and Screenshot sound is LOUD! (I have media volume pretty low, normally; and ring volume at max. It now uses ring volume.) Very
annoying.
15. One bug is not fixed: with language set to “English (United Kingdom)”, the date is almost everywhere correctly shown as “3 April”, except in the notification bar, where
it (incorrectly) shows “April 3, 2012”.
16. video recording issues hd video is lagging a lot. inconsistent speed and also sound
17. phone is much, much slower to start charging through the POGO pins.
18. You can now hold the shutter button to focus and release to capture a photo. This was present in 4.0.1 but removed in 4.0.2 and now back again.
19. we can now take a photo while shooting a video in 1080p mode. just like the ONE X Claims to be able to do because of it's dedicated image chip . just tap on the screen while recording.
20. that the voice-to-type has changed .. now u can choose ur language or add more languages from the keyboard and no need to go to the setting app also Arabic voice
detection is present and working not as Google as the English one but still it is a good thing to have ..
21. The stock calendar widget now shows a colour square for each calendar entry, and the calender entries have been reduced in size to fit more entries on screen.
22. A whole stack of new ringtones, a few of them are pretty loud too.
If anyone noticed another things please mention it here

Holding the power button brings up power off, airplane mode and a volume toggle consisting of silent, vibrate and sound on. I've gotten quite accustomed to using that one very quickly.
About the video recording issue, anyone noticed that, guys ?
Yeah, this really needed a whole new thread.

I have no problems doing this. If i press the volume rocker, i can slide the bar all the way left, or tap at the left and it goes on vibrate just fine.
Is that what you mean?

I too used to hit the volume rocker and then touch the icon of the phone to immediately mute. The benefit of this was that one touch of the volume up button again cancelled the mute and put the phone back to the original volume.
Yes you can touch the 0% point on the slider or slide it all the way to the bottom, but then "up" on the volume rocker only adds one notch to volume rather than restoring the original volume.
Seems an odd thing to remove from 4.0.2...
My observations:
Definitely feels a lot snappier.

OK .. restarting the fone solved that bug out )))

Impressions & Reviews and thoughts about KitKat + EMUI 2.3! (B510)

I thought, would be nice to talk separetly about the KitKat International B510 firmware. Also we can write reviews.
My FIRST impression about this KitKat update is mixed. I missing a lot of features, like Permission manager for push services?!
Video playing is really bad! Standalone and online also. If i open videos online, and rotate the screen, i only hear the sound but the screen flashing all the time. Also video image slides alot!
Sometimes the launcher freez, when scrolling to another page. At multi-tasking when i close app with gesture, (not clicking on "X") it closes not smoothly.
Permission manager is gone? A lot of apps needed that, to work properly. For example: Facebook Messenger Cheat heads blocked, so i cant use it because of that.
Others? Whats your imressions overall?

This is BETA, so it's undestandable to have some issues and missing apps. All apps will be there in the official release.
Is it worth upgrading from B507 to B510 ?

Yes. Give it a shot, it is much faster and all the new functions are running very smooth. The performance is much better.
Update this beta version through OTA (I attended to do beta tester).
No problem with standalone and online video, about launcher seems slightly less fluid, I recommend using a theme created for 2.3 EMUI version.
About the permission manager, I suppose it's changed the method of management with the app "phone management"
I love the new keyboard and the new lock screen !

Yes, im okey with changes, but if it's working well. In phone management you'll not finding any options to set up, permissions neither push options. So it's not a good "change".

I find instead the new implementation significantly easier to use than before, for example, the widget is really functional and also the new management once you understand how it works, I do not mind at all.
It is true, I have not found the settings about notifications, but the rest is "smarter" :highfive:
for me no problem with video playback ( i sugest hwreset)
and Permission manager is now phone manager... so nothing is missing at all ;p
it runs good as for day of usage ;p

This is not the way to root the device. You must install KK TWRP and that will root your device.
@BeyondTheHorizon (assuming your working for Huawei)
My impressions, after updating from B506 to B510. Note that since i have already used Emui2.3 beta (B014) and Emui 2.0 (official) i will not get into mentioning its improvements over Emui1.6.
- Magazine lockscreen is awesome. But i don't understand why magazine option is enabled only for a selected theme, while a few other theme have weather option on lockscreen, and why not instead have them all for all themes. (Also haven't figured out what the "link" option is within the magazine lockscreen menu).
- Overall there is lags and inconsistency in transition and animation speeds everywhere.
Examples:
> Pulling down notification panel has slower animation then when pulling it back up. While on the other hand there is also a jamming lag when notification panel goes back up.
>Random lags when moving about homscreen pages.
> lag in settings sections when entering each settings item.
- I personally dont like the splitting of drop down panel into two "notification" and "switches". The combined was much better. Even in the split form, there is design inconsistency, for example in the switch panel there is lot of free empty space on the bottom half and there is no point in having a slide down arrow to reveal just one row of switches. Furthermore it would have made sense to have the switches fill the bottom half, as it makes it easier for one hand usage. But i still prefer the the combined form which just two rows of switches and brightness option, while the rest hidden under the slide down.
- Thankfully the weather 4x2 widget is proper size, compared to the huge size on B506 and B014. But the transparent clock widget (first introduced on Honor 3c & 3x) is not yet available on this rom.
- The video player app is missing (and like others mentioned, the permission and startup apps manager, one hand option and navigation bar hiding option is missing too)
- I was hoping for changes in the "customize" section of the theme changer app. The old problem of swiping right/left a lot to get to the end of the lockscreen styles, or icons types, etc remains a burden.
- As someone said, its time to change the grey color of navigation bar. Either allow users to customize it, or have a number of colors that changes according to apps.
- In contacts "favorite" section, there is Chinese fonts.
- I don't think there is a need to have all the google apps pre-installed. Just a couple of them would be enough, while the rest can be downloaded from playstore.
- The water mark option in camera is nice. Cant find the "Cheeze" to take pics option. The photo editor is great and fun too. Video recorded on camera comes out dark. In case of taking selfie pics, once you hit the shoot button, the screen weirdly gets all yellow before taking the pic. Photos looks grainy too. But im no expert on camera, so i could be wrong.
- The Chinese rom had an app center app, and at times the latest version of the Huawei apps would be available on that. Such app updates are not available on this rom.
- The types of transition effects for homescreen keeps decreasing with every new rom update, when instead we should be getting newer ones added.
- The homescreen icons on this rom appear slightly bigger compared to them on the Chinese rom. Can be noticed when applying emui2.0 theme icons on this emui2.3 launcher.
Good and bad in B510
Good
- Magazine lockscreen is really good. I like it, hope more themes are like that.
- I like the splitting of drop down panel into two "notification" and "switches". But I hope they could have a setting to enable/disable it.
- Floating apps are awesome.
- Torch in notifications is very useful.
- Ultra power saving mode changes UI to dark black --> seems convincing that it will save battery life. Overall this rom has decent battery life.
- External SD settings
Bad
- Just hope that when I use other music players it can get the controls on the lock screen. Also, if there was a music slider to skip a few seconds of music was available on lockscreen that would be good.
- Hope that the default launcher could have a drawer. Having all the apps on the screen is messy.
- The radio widget still isn't transparent while the other huawei widgets are. It stands out and looks ugly.
- No permissions manager. It blocks facebook chatheads by default because it draws over other apps. No way to unblock it because permission settings are missing.
- The grey color of navigation bar is horrendous. Hopefully they notice this and they make it black or able to customize.
- Camera pictures look grainy.
- GPS still sucks. Don't know if it is a hardware issue.
- No ART mode
Other
- I don't know what to think about the carrier name. I feel like it's ok, don't hate it or like it.
The carrier name HAS to go! Why do they need to put it there anyway?
I agree with @warea about the notification panel that is better in Emui 2.0. Having it separate could work if you can change the settings of how you want it to be opened.
I find that the rom is a bit laggy most of the time, but for a beta I can live with it.

The carrier name it's something new for this update. And everything else it's really just a matter of opinion. The most important thing is that this ROM must run smooth and fast without any lag when it will be released as official/final. Everything else is just customization that can be added or removed by rooting and installing third party apps.
Also noticed, my phone is really hot, even for simple use. And the battery is really bad on this rom.
