Best battery rom/kernel combo - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey had a quick q havent been around the evo threads in ages my gf inhereted my old evo and is currently running miui. Was wondering if theres a kernel to make the battery life inch out a bit more , or if theres a better rom out/kernel for the job.
Sidenote: It currently charges to 100,then once unplugged drops to 89 quickly then seems to inherit normal battery life again any ligt to shed on this or are we an anomoly?
Thanks ahead for the help and time invested!

The 100 to 90 thing is a very known issue. You need to flash an SBC kernel. Follow the instructions in the thread below and I promise you optimal battery life
Having trouble with AOSP? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1295702

Also you can try a trend I started, and underclock to 537/245MHz...undervolting works wonders as well.

Hasn't this topic been touched upon ad nauseum?
Under-clocking/Under-volting works great on any of the Sense Roms.
I am running an over-clocked AOSP ROM (Gingerdeck 1.3 Stable w/ SavagedZEn) and I have great battery life. I make it through the day and then some with moderate to heavy use.

I only underclock and undervolt in my aosp roms, as its all I run. I typically make it 2 anf a half days off the charger.

Gotcha. I only started playing with AOSP on my Evo recently. I did the UC/UV thing on all of the Sense ROMs I was running and would get almost 2 days with light use, a day and a half on moderate to heavy.

Thankyou everyone for the input and links this has definately squared me away, cheers!

[Q] 2.1 and 2.2 roms

Does 2.2 provide better battery life than a 2.1 rom + UV kernel?
Better question...for the guys who've had the 2.1 roms + undervolted kernels and are now on 2.2...which was better? I really want to know about just battery life but the more you provide the better.

Honstley, stock 2.2 gave me slightly less battery life than epic experience 2.1 with pheonix kernel and more than stock 2.1 but I'm currently running midnight and have run every bonsai rom as well and the battery life on these are amazing, I get about 14 hours on a charge and that is litening to music for 8 hours straight while I'm at work. I can't tell you aout the other dk28 roms since I've only ran bonsai and midnight but they give me great battery life and I don't think I could stand to go back to 2.1 now

Thank you thank you I knew as soon as I went back to 2.1 someone would respond >.< but its all good. 8 hours straight of music is what I like to read because thats very close to what I pull in. 2.2 has some great UI changes over 2.1 and on Bonsai I got about 14 hours on a charge as well under perfect conditions and but daily it was an avg at around 12 so I appreciate this post a lot. I've never ran 2.1 for long, as soon as I got this phone I just put on 2.2 so I never got to see what it had to offer so I guess I'll give it a go. I really just want the added battery life.
Going from noobnls 2.1 rom with different kernals, stock with noobnls kernal, now to bonsai, I say its pretty close to the same on some days 2.2 last forever that's if I'm not hands all over it playing with all the awesome 2.2 feutures which has been since last weekend once I get bored of the upgrade I say 2.2 bonsai is better

i get better battery life on dk28 than di18.
coolness. i've been back on 2.1 roms, and I haven't wanted to change back to dk28 because of battery life myself. but a lot of people are liking Bonsai, so that might be the next thing i try before official 2.2 drops.

yeah, Bonsai was really really damn good. That thing was on roids or something. I tried another 2.2 rom for today and it was just terrible...one thing I dont like is how they are all themed up >.< But I got that stock theme from that huge theme thread so its all good, but still....
The reason I like bonsai is its clean of no extra themes it apps its like the mighty rom of the epic and everything works amazing no bugs!!! I am very satisfied with it til next week when supposedly froyo official is coming

Battery life is all relative to what your are doing with your phone.
So many people like to tell everyone how they got XX hours on XXX Rom with "moderate use" or "heavy usage", etc..
It's all relative, moderate to some would be heavy to others, etc.

midNIGHT is based on Bonsai (IIRC), so I would expect them to be similar.

I wouldn't hold my breath if I were you.
The only thing I would add is that, for me, Bonsai does a wonderful job at minimizing battery use while the phone is idle (ie sleeping). If the screen is off it seems like it will last forever!
Best thing you could do is load up a Rom and try it out for a few days.
No one's phone usage is the same as yours so just try for yourself.

So far for me the best I have found ( 300+ texts 2+ hours phone calls lots of internet both on and off wifi/4g with screen on time (auto bright) averaging 7hrs a day) is CWM 3 DK28 EXT 4 viperrom 4.0.3 average 16 hours before low battery alert and Im pretty sure I have tried them all with the exception of cyanogenmod and for that I will wait till the team says its stable.
EDIT: for some reason I NEVER have a time without signal below or above 50% even if I check it 2 mins after unplug but that dosent seem to drain battery like it did on DI18 (average tw/os there was 30-40% same usage but only 8-9 hrs until phone off from dead battery)

That's what everyone wants. Good battery life is not something that Android is known for. People are generally happy to get around 12 to 14 hours with average use. Fast... they're all fast or slow. What are you going to do wit it?
You're going to have get the Evo and see what yours does and then go from there, usage will vary. The worst battery life I've had is around eight hours and the best is around 24 hours. Others have reported battery lives of 30 hours and others overclocked their Evos.
Get it and see what yours does.
I came from a vibrant, the evo is much better. The only things I miss from the vibrant is the 16 gig internal storage and the screen. But I'm way happier with the evo. The screen is still nice, and it just works like its supposed to. I'm using fresh 4.1.1.0, stock kernel, fast and stable, average battery life
We're comin from a pure power source.
i use decks rom with sz kernel sbc with vipermods script and get amazin battery life but
the best rom with battery life ive used is myns warm 2.2 with netarchy sbc kernel and myns warm 2.2 rom is great good theme beuatiful lokking and everything workin

That was my previous set-up above, a very nice ROM.
I'm running Kings Alliance R6.2 ROM now, battery life is good and is very fast. The theme is awesome and so are the animations, that takes some away from battery life, but its a small price to pay. You can turn off animations if you want to.

Q: is froyo just better on battery than gbread?

I have ran gbread leaks since they dropped, then when the ota hit I was using kernels. Now some kind development have modified some new kernels w UV and HDMI but recently I flashed back to my old faithful myns rls5 w netarchy 4.3.4 cfs no UV and SBC.
I guess to get to my point, why is the battery just sooooo much better. I lost very few things going to froyo. It is not as snappy at the same clock speed but it still gets it done. I have been on wifi and 3g today and the total at 12 hours is only 77%. I have downloaded roms, taking pictures, messaging. I am currently on all the latest radio, pri, NV and it sleeps great. Is the SBC that much better? Always ran SBC before gbread and on aosp but nothing has gotten me the same battery life that froyo has. Does anyone have any thoughts on this? If its just due to SBC who do I need to talk to to beg to modify a kernel to achieve this? A bounty, lol, PayPal? Microsoft points? Really I love my Evo and it would be a while before I'm getting rid of it.
I can see a few benefits of being on the latest operating system but right now, my battery really negates any of the reasons. And please, if I had the time I would research more on going it myself but married, kids, jobs, mortgage etc etc my time is slim enough as it is. Thanks for anyone with ideas or help to try to get this into effect as we as a community would all benefit. I'm not here for an SBC vs non SBC debate. I have ran it for almost a year w no issues. I will just buy more batteries. My old seidio 3500 is still running flawless as is my stock Evo battery.
Oh yeah, kudos to anyone that read the whole thing hahaha
well if the question is if you can get good battery life on gingerbread then I get pretty good battery life with MikG 2.52 and the aggressive freedom kernel. I also use Juice Defender... You can download it from the market.
I also have been on Mik. Great rom. I used to think it was just SBC but it may be more. Froyo just doesn't seem to require as many resources to produce. Battery for me just seems better overall. I'm 18 hrs @ 65% on an extended w pretty decent use. Dunno. Just seems like going forward in os should translate into better everywhere. I thought SBC would get to gingersense. All I heard for months was waiting for source. Then source gets here and it must be harder to make work as well as the froyo kernels.
Really just kinda wondering others experiences
Ironically, I was sitting here last night thinking the same thing. On a good Froyo ROM, Koni Elite III for example, with NetArchy SBC HAvs More, and a conditioned 3500mAH battery, I could use my phone for 2-3 days without charging.
My setup below is OK, but still, I play a simple game like Klondike Solitaire for an hour and I'm down 15%. A 20 minute phone will make a major drop and texting someone for an hour or so is good for about a 20% drop
I have been on CM6 for almost a month. Great battery life and awesome 3G speeds. Something I was not getting with any GB ROM. By the way, using the stock kernel.

I made a test a couple weeks ago, just trying to compare Synergy with and without an SBC charge. Without any question SBC makes a huge difference in longevity of daily use charges. The thread is back a few pages and makea for good reading.

I think it has a lot to do with the kernel you decide to use.

Best rom with battery life

Hey everyone I just rooted my girlfriends phone and I was wondering. What is the best rom to have with great battery life? I tried a team nocturnal rom and cyanogenmod but they're not that good. And with cyanogenmod, I hear the phone vibrate during calls. It's a bit annoying.
Anyone have any suggestions?

This is best suited for the Questions and Answers section. This is Development and I can see how you thought this was the right place but it is not. This is for roms, mod, and developmental threads. Please post in the right section next time.
Now to your question please keep in mind that what works for me might not work for you as every evo is different. The best way to know is for you to try different rom and kernel combinations till you find what you are looking for.
Good luck
miui with tiamat or save zen. I never use 4g so I don't care that it's missing. I like sense a lot but miui looks/feels just as good if not better. it's a seriously great ROM! Fast, stable, easily customizable and themeable. And battery life is the best i've had since running myn 2.2. Try it out.

of course MIUI gets the best battery life.
nothing on it works, so your phone just sits there as a paper weight, and that hardly takes any battery to do.
depends on usage...
I sit most of the day without touching my phone. with synergy rls1 Id go 2-2 and a half days between charges if I was home and almost never touched my phone, but Id get 3-4 hours(if lucky) if I had to use it.
With CyanogenMod 7.1 Im seeing 13hours of life if I dont touch it, but Im getting more like 7 of use
if youd like more help PM me

HERE This has alot of great names behind it, have not came across anything yet, battery is very good though! Kernel is tweaked so you can overclock it if needed.

Thanks. I'll be checking this out in a little while.
Sorry I posted in the wrong section.
Thread moved to Q&A.
Finally someone with a similar experiance to mines. Im also using synergy and if im not using it the battery life is excellent. I have installed juice defender and also freedom 0.9 agreesive kernel. I use battery monitor widget to see what kind of drain im actually having. I check the history and using all of the above and if phone is just sitting on the table my avearge reading is 28mah.
If i start using apps and doing stuff on my phone though im lucky if i get 4 hours of use on it also i dont use 4g at all ever so thats not a factor. I just wish i knew why the drain is so high when using it. Ive also done hte battery recalibration so thats not the problem.
Decks can be pretty good and/or runs overclocked pretty well and i still push about 20 hours out of it.

I have tried almost every rom for the evo and I look for stability, internal memory, battery life, and speed. For a gingerbread rom, I keep coming back to KingsROM Alliance SENSE 2.1+ 3.0 HybriD 3D " The BREED " with ChopSuey v9.1 kernel for good battery life. That is my daily rom. For Froyo rom, I use Koni ELITE Series III with Netarchy 4.3.2-havs-more-universal and I get amazing battery life.

[Q] Absolute Best Battery Life (ROM & Kernal + mods)

I'll be joining in a protest soon. Since having access to charge my Evo as often I usually do, I need to change ROM's I think.
I currently run MIUI 1.9.16 with Tiamat 4.0.6 SBC, no mods.
Can anyone suggest ROM's and Kernals that will grant me the best battery life as well as what mods and scripts I should run?
AOSP or Sense, doesn't matter with me.
Thank you for any advice that is given.
^_^
The best battery life I have gotten was from MikFroYo 4.4 with Netarchy-Toastmod-4.3.4
Edit: The easiest way to extend battery life, is to turn off all radios not in use (GPS/4G/Mobile Networks/Bluetooth), and turn your brightness down as far as you can.
in my opinion it seems that froyo (2.2) roms get better battery life, also running SBC is always better.. and the things said above obviously

I'm currently using Swagged Out rom, With Lithids Freedom Aggressive kernel which is undervolted by -175, and V6 SuperCharger script! Its an amazingly smooth stock rom. Kernel wise its the best battery life I've ever gotten on my EVO. And as to V6 SuperCharger I've used it on every Rom I've flashed its awesome. Their are links to eveything in my signature.
I'm a flash-a-holic so i wouldn't really know wat the best combo is but i just flashed the new snowy Rom so going to give it a couple days with the aggressive freedom 9 kernel (128/768 interactivex) and see how it goes...
