I don't wanna spam the forum, but before I can contribute I'm required to make 10 posts... I already feel a bit ridiculous for making this thread, but hoping that either an admin can move part of my post to the section where I would have posted it if I could or for someone to amaze me with insight.
Background
I just created an account now, so that I could contribute with knowledge in the LG Optimus 2X development section to a specific thread [HOW-TO] Root stock Gingerbread on Optimus 2X (P990) for Dummies only to be greatly disappointed that I won't be able to bring my knowledge to the table.
What I would have added to the thread
I've just successfully rooted my o2x as well, but only several different attempts. Thus I'm posting to shed light on the following.
USB ports matter?
Path to directory matter?
What made it work for me was, renaming and moving the directory to C:\NV and using a different USB port. Thus, I can't tell if it was the USB port or the placement that did the trick, but it matters! Before it was located in Downloads (Windows 7). I'm not sure if my laptop has an internal USB hub. The port I ended up using was an USB 2.0 compared to USB 3.0.

I would like to begin by saying I hope this is being posted in the correct section. Also would like the great community for information that is highly informative and extremely helpful. My question is on my Samsung Galaxy S2 (sgh-t989) is there any USB support that would give me the ability to plug a usb thumb drive and gain access to the files via a explorer such as root explorer which can be downloaded via the "market" (play store)? Or, is there an app that would let me know if my phone has this type of support? Also would this be ROM specific? Sorry for the barrage of questions, but would rather post them all in one post other than flood the forum.
Thanks in advance
Note: The included picture is the adapter that is in question, Micro USB to USB

UPDATE: This worked like a charm running IML74K_Ics_Perfection II (ICS Themed Revamped) 04.15.12. I plugged in a 64 gig thumb drive and ES explored recognized it instantly. So I figured I would take it a step further and try my external 1TB HDD, and once again......VIOLA. (needs external power source)
Thanks again guys
That should work with thumb drives and you should be able to see files via a file explorer unless otherwise specified

its kernel specific , look for ones th support usb-otg, which is what u are looking for
Well, the question I want to make to the community is that if anyone can identify, and, if the answer is affirmative, tell me how to replace the components identified in the attached image.
All this is because I sent my DEFY to the Technical Support because it wasn't recognized by the PC, in any of the USB ports, on any computer I have at home (all with the drivers installed, a W7 and another WXP), while the RSD Lite recognized it (in XP), but flash a ROM took several attempts.
As this was so weird, I flashed the phone with Vodafone Spain .sbf and sent it to the Technical Support, but recently I was asked to pay € 91 to fix it, saying that the warranty is void because the phone had a hit, when the USB failure was not after any major hit.
The point is that now I don't know what to do when I get it back, because I will not pay that amount, it is noteworthy that apart from that the phone is working perfectly, no irregularities in its functioning.
Sorry for my poor english.
PS: In case anyone needs the information, I sent the phone to Motorola's official Technical Support, SMS in Madrid.
Edit: Thanks to nogoodusername for the advise

First of all, I apologise if this is in the wrong place, I'm new here and I was going to post on the official thread but apparently do not have permission, and this seemed like the next logical place.
Anyway, as for my question, I have an HTC One X running Cyanogenmod 10.1

When I connect the device to my computer with the intention of copying files, I am unable to do so.
I can see a list of all the files, but when I attempt to copy/cut or delete them, or to place new files I am unable to do so and am met with an Windows error dialogue saying that the disk is write only.
If someone could help me to shed some light on this situation I would be very grateful,
Thank you in advance, Tim
Are you using MTP or usb mass storage? 'Cause mass storage isn't quite there yet even though there is an option to use it. Check settings, storage.
What OS are you running on your PC?
Hy, I am running cyanogenmod 10.1 beta 1 dirty flashed from a9.
The problem is that I never manage to set volume rocker up/down to wake the screen on any cyanogenmod version. Yes, the box in settings is marked. It worked for me when I was on ICJ but never on cyanogemod.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

i've noticed many users, especially lately, experiencing problems (after rooting and/or flashing) that simply should not be happening. these problems can be avoided and users can have a much better knowledge about proper procedures by simply reading up and following the clear instructions on the attached thread. this thread is a compilation of solid information containing links by experienced developers and the proper steps required to safely and correctly flash roms.
this is a simple 5-step process that, if followed correctly, will protect the user against accidental file corruption or data loss while also providing the knowledge to completely customize their device.
i encourage new users to visit this link and those of you that frequent this page to assist others to share this thread for the good of the community. i am always open to suggestions so pm me if you notice something you feel should be changed or added. cheers!
[HOW-TO] The All-In-One Backup/Root/Flash Guide - [I747 & I747M]
Good Afternoon,
This is my first post so my apologies people if its in the wrong place.
I am mainly looking for some feedback, some testing and ways to improve the current program
I have been asked to develop an android automation batch file as a project with the functionality of
*Listing attatched Device
*Rebooting phone
*Rebooting into recovery
*Rebooting into Download mode
ALSO:
Controlling device automation from keyboard
i.e W:to move selection up A: to move selection left S: to move selction down and so on.
I am a great fan of XDA and been a member a while and most of things I know today have been from you guys so please be nice and respect the work I have done.
Also this is my first ever batch program and I welcome "constructive" critiscism and useful tips on how to make this project better.
-----------------------------------------------------------
INFO - This program assumes a few things,
You have a device attatched and have USB DEBUGGING mode enabled
The batch file is in the location on your PC where adb.exe is (from the Andoid developer tools from google)"Otherwise secified directories willl be wrong".
------------------------------------------------------------
AT PRESENT THIS HAS ONLY BEEN TESTED ON n9005 and i9300.
