[Q] Reflash firmware w/out losing doom kernal - Xperia Arc Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Unlocked bootloader, latest doom kernal, stock .42 rom.
If I reflash the tft with flashtools am I right that will replace the kernal with stock?
I want to reinstall the firmware to remove all tweaks and possibly try a new rom, can i do a fresh .42 install without losing doom kernal/recovery?

If you flash with cwm then you'll keep the kernel, but re-flash the WiFi modules too.

Arc S Stock Rom and Doomkernal

Hi I want to use the stock rom but doom kernal doe overclokcing and was wondering how I would do this as everytime I install the stock rom it overwirtes the kernal.
First flash the rom via flashtool and then doomkernal via fastboot. The stock roms contains the stock kernal so you have to flash therom first

Flash the rom first.
Then flash doomkernel.
Then flash doomkernel's wifi modules (to enable wifi option)

[Q] Going back to Stock

Would it be safe to use PC companion if I flashed a Stock GB ROM onto my phone but had a custom Kernel (say stock with CWM) still on the phone?
Or do I need to find Original Stock and Original Kernel?
If it's a gb kernel then it should be fine. Though you'll probably need to flash the appropriate modules after the rom.

Important question (Pls reply!)

i have GB 2.3.7 - CM7.2 flashed
but i want to go to Arconium 4.0 without going to ICS 4.0.4 first... but before i can do any of this i have to flash baseband .72 ok, but if i flash .72 on GB will i be able to continue to flash the kernel and then boot into CWM and flash the ROM? please reply
NOTE: i really cannot be bothered updating to stock ICS 4.0.4 first, and then updating the baseband to .72 and then installing Arconium 4.0
I think baseband 72 comes with 4.0.4. You might as well flash stock 4.0.4. Only takes a few minutes.
You'll need to flash a custom kernel, if you haven't already. If you have, you can uncheck the kernel option when flashing the Rom.
You should probably be doing a full wipe anyway, to avoid any problems

You actually don`t need to flash bb72 ICS works with older too
But you can flash it with flashtool on GB too.
And youre going to be able to stay on yout CM 7 with bb72 or enter recovery etc
And you dont need to update to official first. Just install Arconium with the right kernel and everything is fine
as far as i can tell, this is what you'll have to do in order to get to acronium 4.0.4.
1)flash ics 4.0.4 on your phone using flashtool
2)now download acronium 4 and put it in your sd card
3)flash the recommended kernel using flashtool/cmd
4)rebooot your phone into recovery
5)wipe data, then wipe cache, then wipe dalvic cache
6)now install the rom on your device.
7)when you boot up the phone, complete the initial setup and check the baseband version
8)now (if you want it so dearly, )flash baseband 72 on your phone.
(just note that flashing a other than stock baseband can harm your phone and basebands are flashed on your rom hence as soon as you change your rom, u lose your baseband)
correct me if i am wrong thanks

one last question am i able to do this... flash the kernel > then the rom > then flash bb72?
or will i get bootloops from doing that? so is it better to flash bb72 first then the kernel then the rom?

How to go back to stock?

A few months ago I flashed xzxperience 2 rom and RaymanFX kernel, this was before official Jellybean rom from Sony was released. My bootloader is unlocked and I want to install official the Jellybean update now. I tried DooMlords rom but it wont flash.
What do i need to do? I dont think I backed up stock kernel as I cannot find it, only stock ICS rom I backed up using clockwork recovery (does that back the kernel up I wonder?)
Can I just use Sony PC companion or OTA update?
Thanks.
No, you can't use PC companion or SEUS when you have an unlocked bootloader.
Have a look in the FAQ of the XPERIA S Development forum and see if there's a ICS ftf
There should be some ICS .45 and .55 ftf files around somewhere.
I believe you can now root .55 so it should speed up your progress to an install of the pre-rooted JB ROM.
That said, DooMLoRD provided a few fastboot 'elf' kernels that you can use to get CWM recovery mode access and then flash the JB pre-rooted ROM.
Best to have all the zip files you need on your phones /sdcard before you start any process though.
If you can't flash the pre-rooted official 6.2.B.0.200 ROM, you can install a leaked version of JB, then install DoomKernel, and you should be able to install the pre-rooted official 6.2.B.0.200 ROM and then DooMKernel again. that's the long way of doing it.
I believe if you're getting a status 7 assert failed, DooMLoRD has a fix for that too, with an ICS kernel/CWM recover of some sort.
I believe there are pointers in DooMLoRDs pre-rooted JB ROM install procedure.
As an aside, I had RaymanFX GPU/CPU over-clocked kernel installed too and found it really good.
You can use EMMA tool from Sony for unlocked bootloaders to go back to stock rom or flash a .200 ftf file with flashtool.
Other option is to flash Doomloards prerooted ROM with CWM or in case you don't have CWM (or CWM on ICS kernel and errors during flashing), first flash Doomlords advanced stock kernel which includes CWM via fastboot / flashtool and than his ROM with CWM.
thanks for the replies guys, I managed to get the doom stock jb rom working in the end, followed the tips in the thread and had to flash Advance Stock Kernel with Recovery v01 (FW 6.2.B.0.200) (CWM 6.0.2.7) before I could install the rom
I will remember in future then if I want stock rom to relock the bootloader.

If you don't mind losing data you can do a clean install by flashing a FTF file using Flashtool. That will flash a stock kernel and stock ROM onto your phone.
