[HOWTO][MOD][REF] How to disable permanently the NOISE-REDUCTION feature - Galaxy S II Themes and Apps

I really hate the noise-suppression feature so i found a way to remove it permanently. Here the HOWTO:
1- Un-pack with APK-Manager (or similar) Phone.apk. This is a system apk that depend from TWLauncher-res.apk so you must select it when you decompile the Phone.apk;
2- Edit this file: /res/values/bools.xml
3- Change from:
Code:
<bool name="has_in_call_noise_suppression">true</bool>
to:
Code:
<bool name="has_in_call_noise_suppression">false</bool>
4- Compile the APK;
That's all.

Actually, this just disables the option to turn it on or off from the menu when you're in a call.
For me, it left NR turned ON, but took away my ability to turn it OFF during a call... and I suffer from the problem of the person I'm talking to hearing an echo on their end if I have NR turned on and I have a case on my phone.
Please see this thread on how to edit a deodexed Phone.apk to set the default value of NR to off. A small caveat though; NR is still ON during the very first call after a reboot, but is OFF for every call after that... until a reboot. You can still turn it on from the in-call menu if you want.

Strongly support the idea. Un-packing and re-packing is not a everyday job.
It would be very nice if you could just copy your Phone.apk file here.

sgs2
hi , will this apk also work on sgs2 with stock rom 2.3.4 not rooted??

No, because it's not an apk you install. You have to move the file to /system/app, which you cannot do unless you have root.

Is it to get rid of an echo for people on the other end of your calls?
If so, you should check out this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1441510
Also, you may get a better reception to your requests with a "please".
EDIT: I actually see you posted on that thread I linked that method worked for you. Good for you.

And.. echo is gone! So, now I can use NR-function without any problem. Good day!

For anyone that don't want the increasing ring, KE7 modded, got the idea from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=759537.

Current Device: Unbranded Samsung Galaxy S II GT-i9100
ROM: XWKE7 (Rooted) Modem: XXKE4 CSC: XEUKD1
Kernel: XWKE7 Theme: Pauldiddy Remix GB 1.0 Font: ComfortAA1.003
Strange, it should't force close, as I didn't change anything but a line in ringer$1.smali. maybe you have an older rom with the build.prop changed to KE7... Try to put original KE7 phone.apk and see if it force closes.

Yeah, after I overwrite back original phone.apk & phone.odex, all is back to normal.
I know the method/two lines you're talking about... deleting the two lines invoke-virtual {v1, v5, v4, v3}, Landroid/media/AudioManager;->setStreamVolume(III)V. I actually tried this mod previously with a deodexed KE7, but I kept getting force closes, so I didn't posted it.
Not sure why though...
I didn't touch the second line, only the first one and it works ok for me... had used the phone a lot today and I never had any force close.

Interesting, why did you only delete the first line? All the instructions I've read have said to delete both. If you only delete one, that tells me there are certain situations where the increasing ringer would come back.

[TIP] How to change the info about Android Version

It's not so useful but it's cool. And can complete your ICS/Jelly Bean theme.
What You Need:
Rooted Phone
Root Explorer
Instructions:
1. Open Root Explorer.
2. Go to system/ and long press on build.prop (is better backup this file)
3. Select Open With and then select Text Editor.
4. Find "ro.build.version.release=(your actual android version)" and change how you want. (will look something like this: ro.build.version.release=4.1.1)
5. And if You want change this too: "ro.build.id=GINGERBREAD"
6. Press menu and then Save and Exit.
7. Reboot your Phone.
Ps: You can edit other informations too, but do this at your own risk.
If you liked, press thanks. (it cost nothing!!)

edit: additional lines in "Init.d" and "Build.prop" are added, just check yours to confirm.
Using MIUIXXX, selected AOSP Gingerbread when installing this. I installed this on the Nexus 7 as well and the installation (after picking all the items) took about 15secs on that one, but on my SGA it took 1second instead, so I'm not 100% sure it's working. The difference between the options that I used on the Nexus 7 was that I also installed 6-7 themes (which might explain the longer wait). Still, it does makes sense that the installation would take really fast since basically the only thing that was added/changed in my SGA was plain text.
I posted it here so maybe some of you could confirm that it does improve our phone.

Hey, guys! Tried V.2 for MDPI, I flashed it choosing stock gingerbread (instead of AOSP) and
I instantly felt a faster overall performance! I'd like someone else to test it out to confirm that this isnt a placebo effect xD
And also, it took like a sec to install this time as well but as I said, it seem to work!
note: I skipped the multitasking step since I had no idea which one suited me.
Make a backup before flashing
edit: for instant, try opening titanium backup (which usually takes awhile)

It's mostly optimized for ICS/JB so yes, it works.
Swap files!
HEy. IF you were to go see the original PMR thread, you would see that in order for it to work on some devices, you have to switch binary-update-installer from the ROM you have (the roms' .zip file) to the PMR zip file.
Just follow my guide:
Open the zip of the rom you are running (the .zip file that you flash in recovery)
Inside this zip, navigate to : META-INF/com/google/android
Extract the file called "update-binary" and rename it to "update-binary-installer"
Open Pimp my Rom's zip (i.e : PIMP_MY_ROM-v1.4.1-Universal.zip)
Inside this zip, navigate to : META-INF/com/google/android and delete "updater-binary-installer"
Now copy the "update-binary-installer" file you extracted from your rom to Pimp My Rom's zip (still in META-INF/com/google/android)
Close the zip and flash it, the installation process should now work normally so you can Pimp your Rom !
this goes to everyone who experience a problem when pressing INSTALL and it finishes in a second, without any logs showing.
Have a nice day, press THANK YOU if it worked

Getting AOSP/CM10 Dialer & Contacts to work on Samsung Rom

Hi Guys,
Losing my patient on laggy Samsung Dialer and Contacts, so I decided to replace it with AOSP dialer and contacts. It didn't work out 100%, but it works to some extend
Contacts - so far all working as it should.
Dialer - in call screen doesn't work. It will use Samsung in call screen instead. Well, is good too because I can use call recording feature
Missed called - show in lockscreen but only open to contacts instead of the one who had called.
If you wish to install AOSP Dialer & Contacts, here's how:
1) Samsung mms.apk won't work with AOSP contacts. So you will need to replace the SecMms.apk with AOSP mms.apk. You can do that from here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=36617379
2) Next, download the zip file below. Then navigate to system/app. Find SecContacts.apk and rename it to SecContacts.apk.bak (do not delete)
3) Reboot into recovery and flash the zip file you just downloaded. All contacts will be cleared. So make sure you have backup.
4) Reboot your phone. Navigate to system/app. Find ContactsProvider.apk (not SecContactsProvider.apk) and rename it (do not delete) to ContactsProvider.apk.bak
That's it. If you found any bug, please let me know. Or if you have other method to get AOSP/CM10 Dialer and Contacts to work with Samsung based rom, please share.
Thanks.
Do this at your own risk.

No errors in particular.. dialer didnt show up in launcher.. Iv added this as a aroma option in my rom, so I havnt followed your instructions exactly right..
Hence why im wondering if we can do a similar method to mms.
EDIT: This has to be possible look at chameleon rom on the SII, his managed to get a whole bunch of AOKP & CM stuff working on stock..

or you can use Ex Dialer with the ICS theme. No lag, and it's somewhat better than AOSP/CM dialers. It has lots of options to chose from, it's free and has an option to be kept in memory

Contact.apk required the file to be present. Deleting it caused FC. Since we already have SecContactsProvider.apk running, there is no point leaving ContactsProvider.apk running too. Is fine though if you do not want to rename it.
