Phone acting weird - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

I just got a replacement phone in the mail and its doing something I've never seen before. About six times a day it will play the notification ringtone like the first 5 seconds and stop. I have no notification that comes in though. It just does it. Even during phone calls and the person on the other end can hear it. Anyone have this happen to them?

Tried resetting it?

I havent had this happen, but the other day I was using USB Storage and a Email came through. Rather than play the Notification sound, it played my Ring Tone Even sent myself a email from my wifes device to double check, sure enough it played the ring tone again, odd.

you probably had a ringtone set that is on memory that was not mounted because u were on computer with it mounted .....
Same reason you can't access apps on SD card if its not mounted in phone .

Anyone else having this notification issue wit froyo (sorry if this is repost)

This has happened to me about 2 or 3 times now where my phone will get sumthing like a email and having already preset my notifications it will play a totally different one from The one I selected for instance I set my phone to ring audio1.mp3 and it would be fine then randomly a random file will play from my phone and I look in settings under notifications sounds n it would be changed to audio2.mp3.
It's not always the same one it changes to..and there's not particular time it does it ...well not dat I've noticed..happened once while I was browsing, once when I restart my phone, and once just out of the blue in idle..hasn't really gotten too annoying yet but just wanted to know if anyone else experiencing it..

It's happened to me before, I noticed it always happens after I add/delete files from the SD card, or after the SD card gets "prepared" like after a reboot or something.
Hmm bumping to see if we can get an answer....

Phone plays music when I turn it on.

I always turn my phone off at night while it charges. I turned it on yesterday morning and after it booted while the media scanner was running it started playing some odd musical ringtone. It did it again this morning. I rebooted and it did it again. It will only stop playing if I tap the top of the screen or pull down the drop down menu. Odd thing is, the tone it plays is not a tone on my device. At least not one I can find. I've not installed any new apps in the past few days so I can't for the life of me figure out what is causing this. Has anyone else seen this before?
*Edit Forgot to mention that I am stock and rooted.
Wierd right? Mine does the same thing, but completely randomly.. ive tried to figure it out but had no luck.. must be some kinda glitch

Mine only does it when I reboot. I think the weirdest thing is I can't find the tune it's playing anywhere.
Ok, Don't know how I missed it the first two times but the tone it's playing is "Over the horizon" it's in my list of ringtones. Now to figure out why it's playing.
Good call, just checked my ringtones and sure enough thats what mines playing too..

I've got the same problem. :/
Update: I flashed a couple roms on my phone, and it seems that the music only plays with the stock t-mobile rom.
My phone does this to, do all GS2 phones do that. I didn’t notice it till a few weeks of owning the phone?
I've had mine for about 3 months now and it just started 3 days ago.
Just an update. Yesterday and today when I turned it on, no music....[puzzled/]
The only time it will do that is if you have unread messages or missed calls.
I hate it.. but I love the stock ROM.. since I'm rooted, I simply changed the file to something less annoying and replaced the S_Over_the_horizon.ogg file by naming my chosen ringtone/sound the same file name. it's located at /system/media/audio
Wow. Thanks for the update. At least not I know my phone isn't possessed.
An easy fix would be to record a quick .1 second wave file containing no sound. Convert it to ogg , rename it, and its gone for good

help? Why am I getting dual notification and ringtone sounds???

When I get an email, the sound I selected plays and then a voice says." you have one new email"it does it for both my email accounts. I even turned sound off for notifications and put phone on silent. The voice still plays no matter what I do. when I get a phone call, the selected ringtone will play and then "incoming call from "xxxxx" will interrupt over the ringtone. This just started a few weeks ago. I can't figure it out. I haven't changed or added anything. I also tried to clear cache, dalvik and fix permissions. Im running juggernaut 3.7 on my t989.
Are you in driving mode? Also email has it's own notification options built into the app

Edit: that fixed it. I feel stupid now. Thanks again.

[Q] Missing Calls?

I have searched threads on XDA and could not find a solution specifically for my Epic 4G Touch. The problem I am having is I will just be sitting there and receive a voice mail. The phone did not ring previously and I check my call log and there is not a missed call. What I have found by researching is it has something to do with the phone when it is in deep sleep. I am rooted using Blu Kuban FE10 1.0.3.6 Rom. Also using Caulks FD26 Kernel with FF02 modem. I have tried several kernel and modem combinations. I do not believe it is Rom, Kernel, or modem related. What I have read it seems to be somewhere in the dialer waking the phone up. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
It's sprints sub par service...

We are on the same boat I have the same issue with not getting calls trough I hate to say it but its samsung for us. They are not taking care of all the bugs

I've seen a few reasons for this:
1) A ringtone specified for someone was not on the phone - this caused it to misbehave when I called my wife. She changed the ringtone and it fixed.
2) The tower couldn't reach the phone in time - now in my wife's case her old phone will still ring when her new phone does. I'm not sure if that's playing into the problem or not. But other times I've had both phones next to each other and you can tell when the tower reaches the phone as the ring changes abruptly.
ive been having same issue which is a big problem cause i use phone for work..
that's y I'm thinking of going back to htc phone never had an issue with htc or blackberry phones
The more and more I think about it. Your probably right. It must be a Samsung thing because I have 3 other phones on this contract and they are all HTC phones with no problems. The only thing is they are completely stock with no mods.
i have a htc tp2 on boost mobile which runs on sprint but more water down of a service but the reception for calls is 90% better than this phone
dont get me wrong love this phone just hate the reception issue.
Yeah you would think if Samsung is making phones at least the phone function would work properly.
I have been having the same problem forever with this phone. I have even had threads on here asking for help. I have gone as far as having sprint swap my phone out and that still did not help.
What I would recommend doing is using Google voice as your voicemail provider. Go to the options menu on the website and have it send you an email when you miss a call.
Google voice will always log the call even if your phone does not ring. For somebody like me who uses this phone for work, it definitely helps. You may miss the call but you will at least know that you missed the call and you can call them back.
It has saved me many times!
Are you running Kobridge's tweaks? I have noticed great battery life with his tweaks, but on my phone and the wife's we both are missing some calls when the phone goes into deep sleep. It may just be a coincidence. Not saying anything bad about the tweak.

I have had this issue on stock rom with no apps installed. It is definitely a phone thing!

That is the only thing that has stopped me from smashing this phone against a wall.

I believe that The Blu Kuban is running some kind of variation of Kobridge tweaks, but what I've read on that, the full version of Kobridge tweaks don't play nice with this rom.

Little issue... Notifications not vibrating

Im on the uvlh1 darkside v0 rom and cant find any other roms that work well with my phone. Its a little wonky and for some reason this is the only rom i have found that goes into deep sleep and gets good battery life. Essentially, i cant switch roms. My issue however is that notificarions dont make my phine vibrate. They come in just fine and when my ringer is on, they make noise as they should. I have gone through the menus and told it to vibrate so the "duh" solution has been tried. What else can I do?
Sent from my SGH-T989 using Tapatalk 2
What type of notifications are not vibrating? This could help. My friend had an issue with his Galaxy Nexus where it wouldn't vibrate for anything at all, so I just told him to reset it and it worked like magic
Text messages is(was!) the big thing. I went into the messaging settings and it said it would "also vibrate when notified" but when i tapped it, it said "never". Odd. Anyway I told it to always vibrate and it's workig again. Thanks

I find this phone to have weak vibration. I rarely feel it.
