Yup, now it can be a very small Tab!!! WiFi should work, just no wifi calling (when it's released).

Weird...here in Vegas they don't do nothing when you report your phone stolen..pop another Sim card and try it

Likewise in Houston. Sorry but I just cannot see T-Mobile doing this. The reality is they still will end up getting money from whoever uses it. (Although I don't see that as the reason though.)

They actually do block IMEI from network. Usually when warranty phones are reported "never delivered" insurance is starting to but not everywhere just yet. Cutting down on fraud

Aside from this being posted in the wrong location...
I bought a "New Galaxy S 4G" on ebay. It turned out to be one that TMO considered stolen.. The story was that a person in Memphis got the subsidized phone on a new contract, and never paid a dime. They blocked the IMEI, never to be used again. Meanwhile the person sold it to a pawn shop, who ebayed it.
In talking with TMO, trying to get the damned thing activated, they say it is their corp policy to forever ban the phone. I do not think this is market or location specific, from the way it was described to me.

this is only for phones that were purchased through a subsidized plan and were defaulted on.
your phone shouldn't be bricked, the sim should be locked out, maybe you need to get into download mode and reflash w.e. rom you had on there, it's weird that they can even wipe your phone or lock it remotely.
i believe the deal with asurion is that you have to tell them you found it, than they will send you materials to send back your phone. i once had a similar situation with my mytouch 4g, but they told me they will send materials to ship back, but they never sent materials, i even double and triple checked to make sure they don't try to pretend that i'm holding out on them, they said they resent the materials. still didn't get anything and they havn't asked for their phone back... so... idk. maybe it might happen to you. just tell them to send you materials to ship the phone back

Happen to me also, lost my vibrant, got a new one, found the old one, and it was still working.

Well that's an easy fix. Just root go info the efs folder and delete NV_data and you will have a generic imei

Now I am sure there are ways around it like going prepaid or even using Simple Mobile and of course any other GSM carrier. I could be wrong though.

My phone is blacklisted

so my phone i bought off craigslist is blacklisted. what do i doo? can i delete the efs folder and it will work? or like unlock it and it will work on att? what do i do!?
You may be stuck. Did you get any type of proof of purchase off the person. Anyway to prove you bought it from a legitimate owner?

Without being able to prove you bought the phone in a legit deal probably nothing. Craigslist is full of this. I also got my phone from craigslist but had the guy meet me at a t mobile store and got a t mobile rep to verify the transaction.

There is one of three reasons you're blacklisted.
The phone was reported lost/stolen to Asurion and a claim was made.
The phone is a T-Mobile demo device that was stolen.
It was purchased on a Value plan and the customer defaulted on the bill.
You can try tinkering with the efs but no idea what trouble that will get you in or if that works on the GS2. If you can find the craigslist ad or money order receipt they may reverse it but it might have to go to risk assessment and take awhile.

I was wondering if they considered a difference between lost and stolen. But again, i was told they blacklist for reasons that directly affect them - fraud, theft from a store, or not making payments.

I thought asurion required that you file a police report if you told them someone stole it before they filed your claim? If you say its lost and found it later they may not blacklist it assuming that most people will . I have heard that at times asurion will allow you to keep your found phone if you claim lost then found it later. Not 100% sure on that.

yeah I don't think tmobile or asurion will blacklist a phone if it was lost because if found, it can still be used. However, if someone purposely stole a phone from a store/person, then it would be blacklisted. Not 100% sure but sounds about right.

its not new if its "blacklisted" its call buying it used, you would not have this problem if you bought it new.
either way eventually tmobile gonna track you down. keep us updated if it work
i also was scamed i bought a amaze from Clist called Tmobile with imei # and thy said it was good.i used the phone for 3 weeks, then i droped it broke the screen and call insurance to get it replaced thy said the phone was reported lost and will not replace the phone. the insurance company had the phone black listed but tmobile did not.
so now im stuck with a amaze with cracked screen that still works on tmobile but is black listed with insurance.
moral of the story is you have to call tmobile and asurion with the imei # before you buy a phone from someone other then Tmobile
Return it and get your money back. You have been scammed.
It seems that this kind of thing is happening more often since T-mobile started blacklisting phones that are reported list or stolen. Also they are blacklisting phones that have been purchased on a payment plan and the owner terminated the contract and never paid for the phone or the ETF.
Good luck

I personally stopped trading/selling phones on cl because there are just too many kids and immature people to deal with. plus now with all this there is no guarantee that you are getting a quality product. Just contact the person and demand your money back. Tell them you'll take them to small claims court. You have evidence from Tmobile and Ashton that the phones were reported lost/stolen. And you were not aware of that at the point of sale.

[Q] No Reception at my house - cause for a cancelling of contract?

Hi.
I bought this phone 3 days ago. It's all stock. Untouched!
I am having reception issues at my house.
I have spent hours with t-mobile reps.
Finally they admitted that my house location is "borrowing signal" from other carriers, as they have no tower here. So i am borrowing from AT&T and (could it be - verizon?? that's what the rep told me in any case).
In any case, is this a legitimate way of leaving the contract i signed? Obviously I can't keep using T-Mobile.
Also, if it is a legitimate cancellation reason, what is going to be done with my phone itself? Do I need to ship it back? Do I get to keep it?
Thank U all !!!
Unless u paid retail for the phone, im sure it still belongs to the carrier? I do believe its a legit reason for tmobile to cancel the contract tho.

No. To be honest, it's partly a matter of principle - u buy a phone, U want it to work. but that's not the only thing. I work from home. I do a lot of talking, and I go outside, walk around with the dog. Blah blah... i need a phone that has signal!
The reason I am asking here, is that you guys are impartial. I know I can just call T-Mobile, but they might sell me something or not share the entire info. I am mainly interested in what is going to happen with the phone itself. I love the phone. I would even unlock it and move to ATT (and yes, limit myself to 2G - that's fine), but are they going to let me keep the phone?

Negative. Unless you paid full price for the phone, it still belongs to T-Mobile. However, if you cancel, and then head over to ATT, they'll have some nice phones as well, including the Skyrocket (our sister phone), AND the international SII.

Your best best is to check with T-Mobile and see if they will allow someone to take over your contract and if so start looking for someone to do so. 5 weeks goes beyond any return period I have heard and they will most likely they would say it isn't their fault you moved to an area where they don't have great reception.
Isn't the etf $200? If so you can pay that. Sell the phone on Craigslist, easily and buy another on Craigslist for similar price. Better yet get the note for att.

[Q] Found T-Mobile Galaxy S3

I might be the luckiest person ever. I found a T-Mobile Galaxy S3.

Thanks for your answers.
P.S. The phone has no contact store, so I can't really return it to the owner. The only dialed number is a company.

I am really surprised at all of the responses from people suggesting yuo should keep the phone or better yet, sell it to them! That is really the worst advice anyone can offer, what the hell are you guys thinking? It's dishonest and kind of sh..tty to suggest that they should keep the phone and hope the owner had insurance... if that's how you live your life, I am hope I don't live nearby you - - Karma my friends - the best thing to do would be to return the phone to any T MOBILE Store - what would you want them to do if it was your phone?
the poor soul who lost his/her galaxy s3 is probably pulling there hair and gouging there eyes out by now... so sad...
If I had found this phone, I would do everything in my power to get it back to its owner. When the owner finally gets reunited with the phone I doubt they would leave you walking empty handed however even if they do at least you know you have done a very amazing deed.
Who knows someday you may lose something and some generous soul will return your lost item to you.

so if the phone still has a sim card and it works, just return the phone to tmobile and they will track the number and they could see who it belongs to!
do something great, people will do the same to you.
I agree with everyones (some) responses. I found a iPhone 4S with a pink case. I was able to get ahold of the owner (beautiful girl) and she cried and gave me so many thank yous. She offered $50 but i declined it. If i ever lose my baby (gs3) ...I would hope someone would do the same. Return the phone man..
My insurance was canceled....if I were to lose my phone I'd have to pay full price for a new one. I couldn't afford another Siii.
Return it to Tmo as has been suggested. To do anything less is theft.
If it was my phone, I would activate the mobile security app on the phone and track you down and then the police would arrest you for stealing my phone. But that's just me. By the way, mobile security comes free on most t mobile phones with the correct insurance. I wouldn't risk being labeled as a thief, even if you did somehow "find" it.

What Should I Do?

On Nov 6th I met up with someone at Starbucks from Craigslist to purchase the Galaxy Note 2 for $450 with box charger and instructions. I checked the esn number and it was clean. I inserted my sim card and was able to use the phone. On Friday Dec 28th, my phone all of sudden couldn't go on the web using 4g and I couldn't make and receive incoming calls. I called T-Mobile using a landline and they said my imei has been blocked. I went to the T-Mobile store and paid $50+ tax to use a loaner phone because I can't be without a phone. Today T-Mobile told me that this phone can't be activated due to equipment installment program. What should I do? Should I sell this phone on eBay and specify that this imei is blacklisted? Maybe someone from around the world could use this phone unlocked. Right now the phone is LOCKED. Should unlocking be my expense or should it be the buyers expense to unlock this phone? Should I use the money I get from selling this device to buy a brand new galaxy note 2?
Sent from my SGH-T889 using xda premium
Track down the creep who sold it to you and get your money back. Call him and let him know you have contacted the police and they are reviewing the tape from Starbucks and you fully expect to get your money back. Have him meet you at the police station for the refund.
Hey, may not work but worth a try. I'd rattle the hell out of him and would not leave him alone. He knew what he was up to and essentially stole your money. That's not ok.
Outside of saber rattling, it's now your problem. If you like the device enough, just pay whatever T-Mo needs to get it turned back on. You got a good price so whatever they need should still be cheaper than buying a new one.
Edit: well, who knows what T-Mobile needs paid. It may be worth it to just sell as blacklisted and call it a day.
The person who sold me the phone is the only one could make payments toward the phone. Its a lady that sold me the phone.

If you call them to ask if the phone is clean to purchase and they tell you yes then it's their fault for not making sure it doesn't have any outstanding balance. To the Op you have yet to explain why you haven't contacted the seller. The other poster didn't try to contact the seller either. So either you are both idiots or maybe you are trying to figure out how to unlock a stolen phone. And please don't say you can't find the owner because tmobile had there information and with a push from the police they have to give it up.

Once I follow this procedure, how can I tell if the sim is unlocked if I don't have another sim to test it out?

So instead of dealing with the person that sold you the phone you are going to unlock it? Once again I am calling BS on this and now you have people helping you unlock a phone that is not legally yours.
....... But unlocking won't unblock the IMEI o.0 Unless you're planning to use it on another carrier than Tmo, unlocking won't allow you to use the phone.

I have to agree with this. Tmo wouldn't just tell you the phone was clear & then turn around & say "Oops, we meant to say it's blocked!" If they actually made a mistake when the OP first called in, he needs to escalate until they either unblock him or credit him for a comparable new phone. This whole story just smells funny. I know that if I had just dropped hundreds of dollars on a phone that I couldn't even use thanks to the seller's negligence/fraudulence, I'd be sitting in the police station filing a report within minutes of finding out it was blocked. I can't even imagine just saying "oh well, guess I got scammed!" about something like this. The OP is either incredibly rich & $450 is just pocket change, or else something is fishy here.

My plan is to get the sim unlocked so I could sell internationally on eBay.

Plus unless u have phone conversation recoreded that is all on u. If it to good to be true......... well u know the rest.

I agree with those who say you should hold the lady responsible. Contact her and see if she will make it good. If not, small claims courts is the way to go. I've done two small claims cases. Its easy and not expensive. Sounds like you have a solid case. Of course once you get a judgement you may have a problem collecting if she's a deadbeat. But if she's got an income you can force her to pay up. My 2 cents. Good luck.
Could this phone be activated on Straight Talk? Might be able to get most of your money back via CL if someone wants to use it on prepaid.
