[Q] Restoring issue with Clockwork Mod - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Yesterday I upgraded to CM7.1 from CM7.0.3
Everything was working great, until I tried re-installing the drivers for the Call Recorder app (found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1048195 )
Later, the camera wasn't working, and the phone wouldn't mount to my computer!
So I restored the backup I had made that morning after flashing the upgraded CM and I end up with a fresh wipe! I thought the backup would basically be a saved state of the rom. Or did I do something wrong? I was using CWM 3.0.2.4 I believe, not version 5

So, in case anyone was wondering, I did lightly search the subject, and I don't believe my problem is as severe as the other cases I've found. Some people are simply unable to restore any backups, while I was somewhat still able to.
What I hope to do is to be able to retrieve the app data from this final backup. Possible?

You didn't happen to backup this app/data with Titanium did you? That would be the simplest method to restore a particular application and data...

unfortunately not. I used to use titanium routinely, but after using recovery, I thought it was redundant.

[Q] Titanium Backup message history

I'm using Cyanogen 6.1 and I've backed up with TB. Which line contains my backed up messages?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Im wondering that too. I just loaded a new rom and lost all my messages. I don't remember this happenning in the past.

I didn't know Titanium backed up messages glad i looked at this thread
If, for example, you were on Cyanogen 6.1.1, backed up everything, wiped and flashed it back from scratch, then batch restored everything and rebooted, you would get your messagees back. However, if you do something like that, it's probably because you were having issues, and you likely DON'T want to restore everything.
Does nobody know the answer to this?
There are 2 backups that start with [SMS...] one is dialer storage which I think holds the messages. The other says prefs so I assume it's just message settings. I restore both so I can't tell you exactly which one it is.
They are both green by the way. One is a bit further down the list from the other.

Backup

Can anyone recommend a decent backup app available on the market? Ive tried sprite backup and when i restored it didnt restore half of my settings or any of my apps.
Looking for something to run a backup and when restored it looks exactly like it did before
Is your phone rooted? If it is then get Titanium, if it's not then MyBackup Pro.
Titanium is by far the best.

Im not rooted yet. want to be 100% confident how i unroot for warranty claims before i take the jump
MyBackup Pro should be fine until you root. Titanium is an investment!

Rooting does scare me more on the samsung. Rooted my HTC desire and it was easy to restore to virgin state.
Thanks for your help with the backup software options
It is all new to me too, just moved from the Nexus One.

[Q] Moving/transferring bookmarks between phones/ROMs

Hey all,
I did a short search for this info both in this forum and outside, and it seems like no one has come up with a solution yet. For the last thread like this one, please look here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=13160755
I flash ROMs regularly on my DInc, and I would like to start consolidating as much info as possible. Does anyone know of an app that will either transfer or sync bookmarks between phones/ROMs (ie, get the data on a SD card)? I am not interested in third party browsers - I'd like to keep it simple.
If I have to go searching through data directories, I will. But it seems as if this should be easier than that. I have heard of issues with Titanium Backup - often causes errors/fc's, so I am also not looking at that as a solution right now.
Thanks in advance for any help!
I back mine up and restore them issue free across roms with Titanium Backup. Never had a problem, always use stock browser.

Q. Apps backup and restore

Just wondering if i create a backup of my apps (whats app, games etc) and then restore them after installing any custom rom, do i need to re-register them?
Like for whats app, do i need to register it again? Asking this question because i used a number which was 'accidentally' transferred to someone else by vodafone and yet my what's app works fine right now.

No, you don't need to re register again.

Okay. Then can you help me in a good backup and restore app for unrooted LG GP
Sent from my LG-E988 using xda app-developers app
You cant restore apps from a unrooted phone. You need root. You can it do with titanium backup.

For non-rooted apk backup.
"Appmonster" is the one i am using now. It only will backup your added stuff easily. Different programs have different mechanisms for licencing, so there are some that certannly will have to re-connect with the store or something before they will be the paid version. Others that it is a part added securely, and one (piece of crap) wanted to licence verify every day. Appmonster does not backup extra external data stuff, So i do that manually, and again it might still have to connect to finish. or check licence.
there are 2 others that do the simple backup installed apps to apk packages, both worked (unrooted) for what you can do unrooted, i just happen to be using appmonster because it was simple, and aimable to a folder. Some paid programs are not able to be backed up with it, some secured stuff .
Try Helium too. Need to hook up to a PC for it to work though. Works with uprooted.

So, what are my options for backup non rooted?

I want to start fresh after the kk update. I have a profile for me and my son. I looked into helium but it has iffy results judging by feedback I read. Are there any other options? I would like to avoid root for now but since I bought square trade warranty I suppose it's not a huge deal.
I back all my stuff using KIES. Backs up my apps, snotes, system settings, etc.

helium is working fine for me but you have to connect your device to a PC and runa script to be able to save or restore anything.
price for non rooted devices and probably the reason for low feadback.
I also use it to transfer apps from my phone to tablet.
Any one tried mybackup from the playstore?
Been thinking of testing it out, but never find the time....

I've had varying success with Helium. When I do a system reset and try to restore from Helium about 80% of the apps will restore with data and the rest just fails. There's no explanation of reasoning behind which ones fail. And, when restoring all of the apps the process stops when a restore fails. I have to then start restoring after the failed app.
If you are relying on getting that data back don't count on Helium.
So apart from all the great guy stuff do search on Google for full backup android using adb. No rooting needed.
I would give you the link but I am on my phone today...

I am using it for a long time, very fast with backup & restore sms`s & call logs, but toooooo slow restoring apps.
What about Ultimate backup ?
Any way to backup screen layout? Without root that is...
