Hi people. This kernel aims to be fast, compatible, stable, and have good battery life. It makes our Galaxy S run the way it should.
This kernel is for the International Galaxy S (I9000) and Bell Mobility Vibrant (I9000M)
The SpeedMod kernel for the AT&T Captivate is available here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=893880
Note: Only lagfixes using EXT4 are robust. Other lagfixes run the risk of data loss on freezing, hard-reboots, or sudden power loss.
WARNING: Before you try any lagfix, make sure that you have enough free space on your Internal SD. You should have at least more free space than data+dbdata+cache combined.

Thank you! very useful..
Sounds good!
Could it be used in conjunction with Doc's ROM?
Implementing this in my next "Darky's Raw Steel Edition v3.1"
Cant wait. How about version A3 - O3, standart HZ (or 200, which ever you think is better) and OC (sources are already out)?
For now this is the ultimate kernel, without a doubt.
Btw, tried out HZ 100 quite extensively last night (plus ext4-ext2 and all tweaks). It is indeed not as smooth (with 6 pages of widgets in launcherpro, maximum memory consumption with 100 HZ - when you go to screen previews first drawing is slightly laggy. Without 100 - it is smooth on first attempt).
Battery life.. Well, subjectively - better, I would even say much better. But it needs more testing.
Startup script speed tweaks
# Tweak cfq io scheduler
Tweaked settings of the disk io scheduler more for flash memory. Defaults are optimized for spinning harddisks. Lowered the idle wait, re-enable the low latency mode of cfq, removed the penalty for back-seeks and explicitly tell the kernel the storage is not a spinning disk.
# Tweak kernel VM management
Set tendency of kernel to swap to minimum, since we don't use swap anyway.
Lower the amount of unwritten write cache to reduce lags when a huge write is required.
Increase tendency of kernel to keep block-cache to help with slower RFS filesystem.
Increase minimum free memory, in theory this should make the kernel less likely to suddenly run out of memory.
# Tweak kernel scheduler
Make the task scheduler more 'fair' when multiple tasks are running. This has a huge effect on UI and App responsiveness. These values (less aggressive settings) are 20% of the Linux defaults, and about half of the Android defaults.
# Miscellaneous tweaks
Manually set the starting dalvik heap size.
Increase wifi scanning gap to reduce battery usage.
@ Hardcore can you paste your Startup Reference, on your post too for a quick Faq for ppl here, looking for details on the tweaks.
Thanks

Any chance of incorporating the 1.2Ghz overclock?
Very interested in A1 gonna try it out when im home. I preffer speed over battery ^^
You actually changed any code in the source. Or just in config and compile flags? Want to compile kernel (voodoo sources) with this.

Introduction
ThunderBolt! is a script package by me, pikachu01 that combines a few notable tweaks shamelessly modified to the max as well as hacks and scripts that I came up on my own(and added tonnes of things over the months of development and testing). Without further delay, please read the rest of the OP
Features
Zach's modified system_tweak (I/O Sched, Readahead, VM, TCP, 3G, BFS/CFS tweaks)
Zach's modified screenstate_scaling script - VM Scaling
Darky's Zipalign script that actually works (modified it a bit to get it actually working. It was broken as is before this.)
Patched libsqlite that disables the need to fsync. Extremely fast database writes.
app_process from Fugutweaks and system_server from Honeycomb 3.2
Quasi-charged! - Only using Supercharger's script but with ThunderBolt!'s own LMK/ADJ/OOM. Supercharger Update9 RC3.2.
zipalign binary
sqlite3 binary
remount script - Included in /sdcard/bolt_scripts/
sqlite_optimize script - Included in /sdcard/bolt_scripts/
Benefits
Better performance, better battery life through Linux kernel tweaks catered for Android OS and flash memory.
Better battery life and performance through usage of screenstate_scaling whereby it switches governors/thresholds/VM depending on your screen state.
Better performance and battery life for database writes as fsync is not utilized anymore.
Better network throughput from TCP tweaks and 3G tweaks
Less RAM usage through zipalign. I found that market apps like Viber and PlantsVsZombies aren't zipaligned. Oh and Swype too. Surprised? Me too.
Reduced /dbdata, /data, /sdcard usage of *.db files and faster database access through defragmentization of sqlite db files (a lot of apps use Database to store data like Swype dictionaries, Game saves etc)
Faster disk access through remount script (noatime, disable barrier etc)
Less lags through Quasi-charger, with mutltasking (e.g. NFS shift + Opera mobile with 5 tabs fully opened and no lags)
Minimum Requirements
Android Gingerbread 2.3.x
At least 2MB free on /system (Delete unused ringtones or useless apps like Aldiko/Allshare etc).
Root
Kernel that supports init.d
Ext4 lagfix if you want to use the remount script

Supported by many Samsung phones. Wondering if this would
work or even be effective on the Epic 4G Touch?
That's for the old galxy s line which isn't set up the same. But they were some good tweaks even 4 ext 4 i had them on my vibrant (tmo galaxy s) and my vibrant 4g which sucked due to short life time and support ( but i saw brtter performance on their 3g network than spronts wimaxigets in st Pete
There are many different ways to tweak a android phone in XDA, here I want to share about what I did to my Gio
1) Rom: CM7 by ItachiSama 20121225 Nightly + U235 Kernel by farzad.u235
2) CM7 Performance setting: Disabled Compcache, surface dithering, Use 16bit transparency
3) CPU setting: 245Mhz - 844Mhz + SmartAssV2
4) Script: V6Supercharger U9RC8.2 & 3G TurboCharger, CronMod-INT2EXT+ for 500MB sd-ext
5) Swap: 64MB swap file in sd-ext
6) Scheduled Fast Engine Flush every 3 hour by Script Manager
7) App Quarantine for Apps that hardly use but keep start itself in the background
I think that's all, any other suggestion?
Usually when i use cm7 i only use these settings
CM7 Performance setting: Disabled Compcache, surface dithering
CPU setting: 245Mhz - 800Mhz + LagFree
And the rom is smooth enough for me
With cm7:
Ondemand + noop
245 min / 864 max mhz
Adrenaline engine (or tweakzv6 + default.prop from adrenaline engine) + cronmod int2ext4+
Init.d: 98netforks_tweak + loopy smoothness + 14enable_touchscreen_1 script
Pimpmyrom apk with only ondemand governor tweaks enabled + entropy set on boot.
And with cm9 I only use supercharger with patched services.jar and with latest cm10.1 no tweaks because lots of problems with patched services.jar and supercharger script and other scripts like mmb or adrenaline engine works only for 50%.
Verstuurd van mijn GT-S5660
Thanks for reply~
I suspect that the scheduler in Script Manager drain the battery pretty fast, so I disabled it,
Also I find this link to force GPU to render: http://madteam.co/forum/tutorials/%28tut%29big-performance-increase-on-cm79/15/?PHPSESSID=fnattahs63jq78lie5nd7f6ee3
I tried PimpMyRom before but I think basically it is like a script generator

For swap, you can install a app called Swapper for Root,
then use it to create a swap file in sd-ext, then use terminal:
su
swapon /sd-ext/swap.swp
And App Quarantine is just a app.
After trying a whole bunch of tweaks on a whole bunch of roms , i got to the conclusion that it`s not worth it on the long run to use them , my personal opinion only. If the rom has a CPU manager i usually just set the min to 245 and maybe maybe i switch to smartassv2 and that`s all. If the rom doesn`t have that included i just leave it like that , like AOSP roms for example , they are great exactly as they are.

agreed...after 1 year of using gio and after trying several roms/scripts, in cm 7.2 at least all it is needed to be done: governor smartassv2, 245-800 and nothing, NOTHING else...the phone is as smooth as butter..no swap, no scripts, no overclock, no lag (except for when updating/installing something, but this is normal even in full desktop PCs)

Yes it is just like a PC, and the more Apps you use and the more resources they require, the more power is needed.
I have 336MB Apps on my Gio(only 3 games, less than 40MB), if there isn't any tweaking available I think I am using a better phone months ago.
Even a simple minfree tweak on a stock 2.3.6 rom by Apps like "AutoKiller Memory Optimizer", the difference is pretty noticeable.
And about the smooth as butter thing, I cannot agree with you, if only you are comparing Gio with something like HTC Hero.
Just sharing my opinion

I am not using gio as my primary phone, i own an htc one s.. ofc, there is a big difference between a single core 800 mhz and a dual core 1.7 ghz.. still, on gio i have no lag, hence i call it smooth as butter.. no, i am not playing games which most likely are NOT smooth, nor am i using on gio cpu/graphic extensive apps like photoshop or whatever.. i am not one of the guys complaining that their 1000 $ 20 years old car is not able to go from 0 to 100 in 3 seconds like a Ferrari.. yes, starting opera from sd-ext is taking much longer than on the htc, but i was talking about the snappiness of the phone during menus, doing stuffs, how fast reacts to inputs, commands and all that, with stock settings and no scripts and "optimizers".. maybe it matters the specific ROM each one uses? i dont know what the minfree values are in my ROM, but i have no issues with memory, no need to have an autokiller (which by the way is absolutely useless unless you disable the services..it autokills programs which start again right away, i am talking about facebook, google`s one, etc) .. but it is good that we disagree, this is how the world evolves

I admit I am just trying to push it to the limit
It spends hours to trying/wiping/rebooting to squeeze 1%, many would just go buy a new phone.
And some people are still trying to make CM10.1 fully working on Gio
Some people (like me) are still dreaming for a better phone. So yeah have to live with what i have now (galaxy gio)

REVIEW THE WHOLE THREAD BEFORE POSTING QUESTIONS.
PERFORMANCE
To general speed up the whole andoid system I used a MOD from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2360985
◢ Features ◣
- Android performances improved at 360°
- Radically improved management ram on android (Lags...adios!)
- Script lightweight and revised to be adapted to this engine
- Improves a lot the graphics: of course Pure Graphic™HD, Pure Dithering Plus™ and... AOSPA 3.60 system tweaks
- Scan multimedia time drastically reduced
- Network Improvements, 3G experience even in 2G modality
- All SQlite database optimized
- Enable hardware features turned off by default for a better experience on entry level devices
- Greatly increases the score AnTuTu: Try it to believe it!!
- Reduces the startup time of Android
- A version for stock rom and one for CM, to squeeze any roms!
- Allows you to play ported games without lags
- Cleans the system every 24 hours, thecache every week and the Dalvik every month (cronos easter egg)
- Automatically Zipalign on each boot (sensitive to the user)
Battery
- Drastically decreased the drainage of battery
- Check the activities that consume too much battery stop them with PureWakelocks™
- When the phone is charging reduces system services for faster charging
- The battery is calibrated on every boot
- Disable animation of the system when the battery is nearly exhausted
- Improvements in build.prop as regards the part of consumption
Graphics, Screen, Images
- Enables a non-aggressive dithering to save CPU
- When you lock the device, the engine makes sure that the GPU is turned off
- Enables deep sleepalso in the bugged rom
- Parts of bravia engine
- Of course parts of CrossBreeder (credits to dev)
- Of course parts of Adrenaline Engine (credits to dev)
- Of course PureGraphics HD, even though I already told you
- Of course V6 supercharger
- Generates video entropy (like seeder)
CPU, Governors, I/O Schedulers
- Slightly improves the scaling of the frequencies (for better results you need a good kernel)
- Lightens the load on the CPU switching the workload to GPU rendering
- Enable the swap partition in Android (experimental)
I've said too much, man. Install this engine and discover its power!
◢ Compatibility ◣
This engine works on any devices with any rom, but there is a version for CM's rom and one for stock based firmwares. So, CMx.x, Lewa Os, MIUI, etc.
Install the stock version only on your stock firmware of your phone....
if your device don't have gingerbread or ICS officially, install the CM version (This also applies to the AOSP)
◢ Positive feedbacks ◣
And finally ROM works like a charm.

Sorry I did not see any updates for this thread. Yes you can just reboot your mobile to bootloader and flash a version for CM just there. Reboot the mobile and it will be updating on boot up. Do not wipe anything. Just patch and go.

I see the difference on my mobile in everyday use. I don't know about antutu score but overall see the difference, windows open very quickly without lags or delays. Camera work better and quicker. I am using Wildfire S and have a 1 GB ext4 partition on my micro sd card.
I flashed that GPS fix and now GPS locks (didn't even lock before) but it shows wrong coordinates, about 200 kilometers from my actual location. Any ideas?

As it is with any other desktop or mobile operating system, the performance of your Android OS will start to diminish after you use it for some time. Mobile operating systems are supposed to be lighter and faster to keep up with our need to be on the move, yet still give us access to everything. Want to have the best of both worlds? Then, it’s time to do some housekeeping.
If you have noticed that your Android phones performance have been ‘slowing down’, particularly after you’ve been loading it up with tons of Android apps (we don’t blame you) from the Google Play store.
With just a few tweaks and changes, you’d probably be able to breathe life into your Android specifically those that have been updated to Android 2.3 and above.
