[Q] Separate Music and Ringtones ? - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

Hi everybody, I was wondering if theres a way for my music player not to recognize/show my ringtones?
its kind of annoying having all the the ringtones in the music player.

Bump that i second this because i hate not being able to exclude some media especialy like sipdroid recordings

Not sure how yours got into your music folder, but you should be able to move them using the onboard Files app. The path for my music is /sdcard/external_sd/music, and my ringtones are in /sdcard/external_sd/Ringtones (custom ones I made previously and put on the card). The ones I made with Ringtone Maker are in sdcard/media/audio/ringtones. Not sure where the factory ringtones reside, don't have a problem with them, don't use them, so I haven't found the need to go hunting for them. But you're not talking about the factory ones, are you?

Mine are under ext sd/media/audio/ringtones and none of them show up on my music player

you can install 3rd party apps from market to handle that

[Q] Ringtone/Music Editor

Can I get some ideas on a decent ringtone editor? I'd like to be able to cut up some of my music and since most of the music is encoded with WMAF I'd need to be able to edit WMAF files. I also have some music downloaded via iTunes so it would be good to also be able to edit m4p files as well.
How about converting m4p files into a format Android likes?
Thanks,
Brian
if your talking about on the device, ringdroid is the best, but it doesn't show up in the market for me so you'll have to go find the apk. it is/was a free app so don't worry about piracy.
on the computer, personally i use Magix Ringtone Maker. it's not free but its built for ringtones. it's worked with any file i've tossed at it and allows up to 4 tracks to be used. and you can also save your work if your working on a complicated ringtone. it's made my life a lot easier since for some of my tones i've combined different parts of a song or put multiple sound clips together and with the 4 tracks it's really nice. you can also boost the volume levels and add fade ins and outs.

One other alternative is to use Zedge where you can search for the ringtones you want and download them directly from the app.

good point. zedge has a lot of really nice stuff. especially for notifications. i have about a dozen ringtones through them. but still prefer to make my own.
I always used audacity to make mp3 ringtones out of music. I don't know if it works with other types of music files, but for mp3 it's awesome.

I can't look it up here at work, so I don't know who the dev was, but there was an app in the market called Ringtone Editor Maker that was based on the Ringdroid source code, but added fading in/out functionality. Not sure if it'll show up in the Market for 4.0 devices, but give it a shot.
EDIT: Here it is: Ringtone Maker
+1 for Ringdroid. has done everything i ever wanted it to do. perfectly.

Music Player playing ringtones with my music??!

Yes I'm wondering what would be the easiest fix for this. Whenever I am listening to music through the stock music player, either through my head phones and the car, it mixes up and plays my ringtones and notification sounds along with my music which is annoying lol. Anyone have any ideas?
You could hide the folders using a . In front of the name then manually place copies of the ringtones into the system ringtone folder if youre talking about downloaded ringtones i had the issue before and it was the simplest fix i could come up with aside from manually excluding the folders everytime i opened the music player using a 3rd party player like sony walkman and winamp etc which was alot more of a hassle than hiding the folders and copying the files to system tones when i changed roms

Sounds to me like you might have your ringtones in the media folder. Move them into the notifications/ringtones folder that should take care of ya.

Just to clear it up b4 you get lost doing this.. The ringtone folder is inside the media folder. But yes switching the ringtones over to the proper folder will fix this issue.

There is no option. There is a separate folder on your phone for ringtones. You need a file manager app and then copy any songs that you want to use as ringtones into that folder...... or use your PC. There was supposed to be a built in ringtone editor in the player app in JB but it seems they pulled it at the last minute.
Or if you dont want to move files around you could download Ringdroid or a different ringtone maker.

Copy them to Ringtones folder or media\Ringtones folder... after you copy it will take few seconds-minutes before you see it in the list and sometimes I found it added instantly...
Good luck!
put your mp3 in the following folders on your "sdcard"
\ringtones\ for ringtones
\alarms\ for alarms
\notifications\ for notifications
Airdriod is a great app for easy ring tones and notification tones as well as other great features while using your computer browser and remote management of your android devices.

HTC Music app,how to play by folder?

Hello!
Though I have HTC phones for 2 years, I never used them for music play.
I bought the Stereoclip yeaterday and I am ''obliged'' to use the HOX to stream music as my cowon J3 BT volume is too low and crappy.
Now to focus on the question here, is there any way to play songs per folder?
I always divide my songs by genre in folders like ''Trance'' ''Rock'' ''80s''...
Ok the HTC music player can play by genre but unfortunetly my mp3s are nothing but well ID3taged + I don't want to put 500 songs in a genre.
So please how can I play by folder?
Any modified htc music app for that purpose?

I would create your own playlists with the Names of the genres you are using.
You can also add sources from DropBox etc this could be a good idea if you want to keep the space on your device free for apps etc.
To do this, goto your music play, click the "Settings" top right corner and click "Add Music source"
Hope this helps my friend.

I had the same question like you. I Gave up and installed PowerAMP...
i use a program called. music folder player

Forget the dropbox thingy with our very limited 3G network in Lebanon (20 to 100mb per month), or else I would have used Tuneinradio in my car all the time
I think I will install a 3rd party app though I would have preffered to do it with the HTC music app

Okay, heres three options and I can't think of any other way for you to do it, I hope this is helpful.
1 - Obviously you could use another music player, such as WinAmp.
2 - Sort your music into the folders you want, get a file explorer (I Use ESFileExplorer) go on that, navigate to the folder, long press and then click "Music" that folder will then be loaded by itself into the music, Long winded I know but you can still use the stock app.
3 - Create playlists and just name the playlists by the folder.
2 is probably your best bet !
Thanks dude!
I will try playlist to begin with, if it's a pain in the as* I will install a good 3rd party app.
Btw which one is the best (music quality) and has lockscreen controls?

No worries mate
Tbh never used a third party music player, as in my opinion they are never as loud or clear as the stock. Perhaps that could be sorted if you know what to do with an equaliser, but I don't haha.
Couple of Suggestions that I know are good music players:
DoubleTwist - GirlFriend uses this, its free, very smart and sleek looking, and has many functions. Including the lock screen control you asked for. I'd take a look at this.
Player Pro - Looks very capable but never had an experience with it.
Also
WinAmp - Has been around for long time, before android even existed as it was a PC music player, hense the "Win" for "Windows"
I had a good look at PlayerPro, this could be a brilliant option for you, its got everything you've previously mentioned, playing by folder, lock screen controls. etc etc
Hi mate,
here's what I did on my HTC Desire X. You create a folder with a specific name where you put all your music and then in the Music app on HTC Android, you Search for that folder. It then shows up under Albums and you are able to play only the tracks contained in that Album/folder. For the folder names, they have to be somewhat unique, if you have a lot of music on your phone because otherwise it's gonna getm mixed up.
Hope it helps!
Since Sense 4+ we can use folders play in the HTC Music app
I just found an easy solution to the problem.
1. Organize all your songs on your phone under folders as you like
2. Connect your phone to a PC
3. Open Windows Media Player
4. Select all songs from one folder (on the phone) and add to Windows Media Player Playlist
5. Rename Playlist according to your preference
6. Save the playlist
7. Copy the playlist from your music folder on your PC and paste it on your phone in the Music folder
8. The playlist will now be available on your stock music player

Need Help with Stock Music Player

Hi Forum,
I got a stock music play that cannot see my mp3. I got an old version of ClearRom. I did a factory reset and configured it for my wife. But I now having a problem with the stock player. I cannot see the mp3. First I got it on the SD card, then I moved the mp3 on to the internal sd, into the Music folder. Still, the music player cannot not see the mp3.
Thank you for looking,
I had this problem before what i did is move everything back to ext sd and make sure them in a folder just called Music and after get a app called player pro, when you have it go to settings music library and hit refresh media store and there it will read all your music this is the way i do it and it works without flashing anything or even root just an app
