By laggy do you mean the pause betwee when you press the button and when the picture is actually taken? That is because auto focus is trying to get the best shot. If it is not foccused when you hit the buttin it will pause until it gains focus and then take the shot. I find it annoying, but if i dont use it pictures tend to come out blured.

That's exactly it. I have a 4 year old and a 8 week old so quick pics are important.
Glad to know its just auto focus trying its best and not something else I was overlooking.

I wish our camera had the multi-shot option like my digital camera has. You hit the button once and it will take 5, 10, or 15 shots one after another or if you hold the button it will go indefinitley. But this is a phone after all, and it does still have the best camera of any phone i've ever had.
Agreed. Outside of the auto focus lag its a great camera.
What's auto enhance?
Sent from my ADR6300 using Tapatalk
I run CM7 and the camera is just the basic Android camera with a few enhancements. It focuses and takes pictures much faster than the HTC Sense camera. But thats if you like AOSP ROM's. So the lag is really just the HTC camera interface.

Auto focus when you press down, and takes it when you let off. Also has touch to focus. I usually focus to get ready, and when I see a good shot, take my finger off and it gets it right then and there. No delay.

You know how everyone is complaining about the camera, mainly because photos come out blurry/not sharp. The thing causing that was VERY slight movement when clicking the button to take the pic. It seemed to come out of focus very easily.
Now, with 4.0.3, I can get sharp pictures even with more movement. It's not so "touchy" anymore and stays in focus.
Anyone else notice?

I hope it's true. There's more than one camera bug.
Im surprised how well it focuses in low light with out flash.
Sent from my Google phone
You know they could offer a shooting mode that used the phones sensors to detect camera (phone) movement and hold off the shutter until motion is minimized to improve sharpness. You might want a mode that does this but other modes, like sports, that don't delay the shutter.

Good to hear, what about the white haze when near a window. Now, can anyone recommend a 4.0.3 ROM without any visual mods?

You can change the boot animation yourself. Here's a link to a 720p version of the default ICS animation: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1380655&highlight=animation
EDIT: I've found the 720p version of the original Galaxy Nexus boot animation lags a bit, so if you're not happy with that one here's a link to a compilation of boot animations: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1364044&highlight=nexus+s+boot+animation
My personal favourite so far is this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1402764
wish google would add an option for the instant shutter or delayed snap after autofocus. 90% of the bad pictures are taken because the person did not either tap to focus or held down the camera button for it to focus
Same goes with panos, I wish they gave you an option for auto panning versus the snap then move, like sgs2 did
Switched to redemption a 4.0.3 ROM and now pics are a lot better. Very impressed.

Why has no one posted a photo yet? Show us some of that 4.0.3 camera goodness!
I can't get used to the galaxy nexus camera, my previous phone was a galaxy s ii and while I was taking pictures all I had to do was hold down the shutter button and then it focused and I knew it dis because the viewfinder turned green, now on the nexus holding down the shutter button does not focus, it just takes the shot, to focus I have to let the phone settle for a few seconds and watch it try to focus, but it doesn't get it right quite a few times, there's no way of activating manual focus? To make things worse the viewfinder is always white, it never turns green so I find myself taking the same picture 3 times to choose the best one later :/

Yes, touch the screen and it focuses on whatever you touched.

Just click on what you want to focus on. It will continually focus on that object. On 4.0.4 it uses continuous auto focus. Don't hold down the button.
When you press it it focuses again if it is out of focus.

I'm using 4.0.4, how was the focusing done on 4.0.2? I'm not convinced I have to touch to focus and then tap the shutter button to take the pic, the thing is when I release my finger from the place I focused to tap the shutter, the phone moves well I move it involuntary and the focus is ruined

Back on 4.0.1 the camera used the standard method, press shutter till the box turned green, then its focused and you let go. But it also had quick shot too.
They removed the standard method in 4.0.4 so now all we're left with is the quick focus. I miss the old way too honestly.

Oh , I could live with the constant autofocus if the viewfinder turned green, but I never does, the only way to know for sure if the camera focused is tap the screen in the spot you want to focus and then it turns green and you should be able to take the pic, if you manage to not move the phone (accidentally)..

Yeah it kinda stinks. At one point ardrynelene compiled the old camera apk for us to get back the old functionality. But I forget what ever happened with it.
I noticed that my camera auto focus hasn't been working for a while.
But when I use scan app, it seems to be working.
I'm running ParanoidAndroid 2.23 for T989 but I have been flashing around and have this same problem with every roms.
Please help.
Thank you

Auto focus doesn't work for me either. it SEEMS to be working on video mode, but definitely doesn't work on photo mode. I believe it has never been working for me, and I always thought why doesn't samsung phone camera autofocus well like my low end HTC phone (HTC One V). I'm on AOKP nightly, which is actually pretty stable right now.
On HTC phone, even when just previewing the pictures to be taken, it autofocuses when the camera gets closer to an object, but this one doesn't do anything. When I press the shutter button, it takes and sometimes focuses correctly, sometimes blurry (especially when too close to the object, which is not a problem with HTC phone). I can long press the shutter key and i will be able to see if it focuses or not before releasing the key, but why doesn't this adjust right away when preview is shown without touching the shutter key?
What is "smart capture" option in the camera settings?

From my knowledge if you put your thumb over it and quickly take it off it'll trigger the camera shutter. I don't like it personally so I choose to keep it disabled.

My bad, I meant over the lens. So for example, while getting my camera ready I would accidentally snap a pic because my hand would go in front of the lens for a second.
Hi all
I've been using this device for long. Recently while taking few pics i realized that camera couldn't on near objects. It can only focus on near objects upto a certain focal length and for lesser distance it focuses on far object and hence subject is blurred while background becomes focussed.. Anyone else having this issue.??

I've just taken a picture of my mouse.
The spot I marked is the spot I let my device focus, its nearly exactly 6 centimeters from the camera away.
http://i.imgur.com/kMDewJW.jpg
I think that's a decent result... I tried to place my mouse a little bit closer, but then the focus couldn't handle it anymore.

It works fine here at 2-3cm, but not with button - You need to tap the screen on the object you need to focus. Try, maybe it will help.

Yep, the camera button doesn't try to focus that closely. If you touch the object on screen it'll focus just fine.

Any idea if this behavior can be tweaked? What's the point of a 2-stage shutter key if the focus doesn't work as intended?

Unless most of your shots are macro i'm pretty sure it works.
I think you can use "macro" setting when you take a close up photo.
I never use auto. Always select area and focus manually. Sooo much better
