[Q] Stop Picasa albums showing in Gallery? - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

I've disabled the Google Photo sync option in accounts settings but i still see my google+ albums in the gallery app, is there a way to stop them showing? I thought unchecking that would do it.

You go into your settings for applications. Then you find the gallery app, and clear the data. Don't worry you won't lose your pictures. When that's done open your gallery app and it should redo everything

This didn't work for me.
The irony is that I was a couple of days ago I was insulting Apple's Photostream for not being able to delete any images without resetting the whole Photostream.
So I've already turned of syncing Google photos on both of my accounts, and I cleared the data for the Gallery app ... and all my images from Picassa are still there. I turned off Google+ sync just to check (I don't do any instant upload or anything like that anyway) and the images of both my accounts are still present after clearing the data in the Gallery app.
Help. Please.

Don't know if you want to go to that extent but it seems like clearing the data from google+ will get rid of it.

Your problem is that the picasa pictures are still in the sd card cache folder of the gallery. Delete everything in the cache folder, it's under "/sdcard/android/data/com.android.sec.gallery3d" in honeycomb, it may be somewhere else in ICS.
After that clear data of the gallery again and the picasa folder is gone.

A combination of dumb donkey and gokpog.
1. Went to "/sdcard/android/data/com.android.gallery3d" (no .sec in ICS) and deleted everything in the cache.
2. Deleted data in Gallery app.
3. Deleted data in Google+ app.
And then I accidentally hit "Refresh". D'oh!
You actually only need to do numbers 2 and 3 above to get rid off the images. Though I found out (with help) how to do get rid of the unwanted albums, for the average buyer who doesn't come to these forums, it's way too hard. It shouldn't be this way. It's almost as bad as Apple's Photostream!

i noticed even with photosync still off
opening google plus and having instant upload on, returns the albums to the gallery
gahh

Why not just remove your Google account and add it again? Immediately afterwards, click on Google Sync and uncheck Picasa or photos or whatever.. That's what i always do after adding a Google account.

Gah!
I've tried clearing both the Google+ app cache and Gallery cache, plus deleting the contents of the Google+ app folder in the relevant path on the SD card, and still the albums reappear in Gallery as soon as I run the G+ app again. AAAARGHHH.
Does that mean that deleting the offending albums from the Android Gallery will also delete the Google+ albums? Because that would be irritating, to say the least.

Clear your gallery, then use Droidwall to blacklist the gallery and any offending processes?
Unfortunately, you may also have to blacklist G+

I always hated that I just couldn't delete these albums..

It drove me nuts so I just deleted Picassa from my main gmail account and set it up on a secondary gmail account so now it's gone.

to me it's the same, how I can hide the google + gallery in the gallery? I tried a thousand things and I can`t. help me!

I don't wish to hijack the thread, but seems like the best place to ask this question. Is there a way to reset the thumbnails in the Gallery and + app? I changed them online (some were inappropriate to have as thumbnails), but no matter what I seem to clear, the old thumbnails stick. I have cleared the data from both apps, and have even gone as far as even removing the Google account and readding it, and the old thumbnails still return.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=23449660&postcount=4716
Plz thank me if I helped you, and you're welcome

Here is what you do...
1. Go to settings - apps - Google +
2. Click on clear data
3. Go to Google plus and activate it
4. Select no when it asks you if you want to upload pictures from camera
5. Got to Google + to make sure it is turned off
There you go now...

Requesting Help to Remove redundant images from "Instant Uploads" folder on Phone

Requesting Help to Remove redundant images from "Instant Uploads" folder on Phone
RESOLVED IN THE RESPONSES BELOW - Thanks all
This is really frustrating for a tidy freak like me but:
When I first got this phone, messing around with the camera I took some inane shots of my surroundings thinking I could delete then afterwards. Some of these images went into a folder called "instant uploads". When I went into the folder to delete them there was no option.
Some of the shots were replicated from my main folder, so I deleted them from there. The number of images in instant uploads remained unchanged (13 images) but now I have mostly grey tiles which when I click on them inside instant uploads it says "no thumbnail" There is also a picture in instant uploads that still has the image there, even though its deleted from my phone!
Ive been into picasaweb and deleted images from there and tidied up but still my instant uploads folder on the phone is showing the same 13 images.
Ive been into settings/apps/all and cleared a cache called "media storage", it rebuilt the regular image folder but still this folder of sh*te called "instant uploads" remains.
Can anyone help me clear this up? Ive turned off instant upload now as I dont see it being of use to me personally so i'd really love to get rid of this remnant bloat..
First go into the Google+ app and untick the 'Enable Instant Upload' option in settings. Then go to your Google+ on your computer or in the phones browser, navigate to your instant uploaded photos and delete them from there. I couldn't find any way of deleting them from within the gallery app or the Google+ one.
Beat me to the punch...
This was annoying the hell out of me since i was doing the same and just playing around and then when i came to delete them i just ended up with the gallery still showing photos being there but all of them were just blank with no option to delete like you say.
I managed to get rid of them in the end by doing as stated above, delete them from the pictures from phone folder in the web version on Google+, delete them from web picasa, switch off instant upload in the Google+ app and then clear data for Gallery and Google+ in /settings/apps/all.
I also used Astro file manager to delete all cache in android/data/com.google.android.apps.plus but i dont think this did anything, just thought i wuld add that in too.
All in all i think that is a S*!T way to simply delte some pictures and can imagine quite a few people having the same problem, especially those new to android wanting the new galaxy.
Thanks for chiming in guys.
Tung_meister, i had already deleted the imiages from picsaweb and they are not showing on Google+ so I guess those two are syncing. Id also unticked the instant upload option within settings, The images and grey blank tiles were still there on my phone in the IU folder. I went back into the picsaweb adn deleted the empty folder called instant uploads. Still the images are in the phone!
Dumb Donkey, ive done every step you have shown exept
and then clear data for Gallery and Google+ in /settings/apps/all.

I'll try that now and hopefully resolve the issue. If that fails im gonna do a handset reset. It wont take me that long to get everything as I want, slightly annoying though!
Im thinking maybe I used another email address/account for sharing somehow but dont think so..
That worked Dumb_Donkey cheers! I'd buy you a pint mate haha!
Cleared Google+ which got rid of the photos but it still had an instant upload folder stating "13 files"
Cleared Gallery which zapped the instant uploads folder completely!
Thanks very much mate.
Looks like a syncing issue betweeen phone and web?
Well, I'm pretty late, but just found out you can choose what albums to show via settings. Just choose "phone content" and it's fine.

Gallery Issue

how do i delete all the phots from it? and stop it appearing?
i deleted all the photos from my google + account and still theyre there

At some point in time you must've enabled the Instant Upload feature (and have obviously subsequently disabled it). The folder is in Picasa Web Albums, and it is non-removable from what I can see.
maybe this is different in 2.4, but you should have an option under syncing to not sync Picasa and instant upload.

i dont have picasa on my phone, iv re enabled syncing the google photos and google plus and instant upload trying to wipe the folder but its still there
it has a picasa picture on the folder but i dont have picasa installed and i cant find any settings for it
Google syncing brings Picasa to you in gallery by default. Turn off google photo's sync or edit the picasa web album
When you have the album open in Picasa Web Albums, choose Action, Delete Album - YOU WILL lose all photo's but it should then not show up.
To prevent it again in Google + turn off instant uploads

You don't need to have picasa installed on the phone for this to happen, Picasa Web Albums is online. It is where your pictures are saved when you enable Instant Upload in Google+, something which you must have enabled at some point since you have the folder.

I have been unable to get the Instant Upload album to delete, from Picasa Web Albums. It just stays there.
do you install picasa?
i got rid of it by removing my google account then adding it again and disabled goole photos from syncing then when i signed into google plus i disabled instant upload
I have different issue.
If I click on GALLERY it comes up with message "Unfortunately, Gallery has stopped.
REPORT - OK
Any ideas?
Speaking of the Gallery, is there any way to order the folders/albums alphabetically? It seems like they're ordered completely randomly, which is really annoying if you have a lot of albums.

Have you disabled any apps? I disabled a pile of crap I don't use (Google+, Books, Talk, News & Weather) and I got the same. Then I re-enabled them and it worked again. Didn't get into trying them one at a time yet.
On de SGS the Gallery-app gave al lot of problems. One of them was that it used al lot of juice. Another was that it not always showed all pictures. For those reasons I installed Quickpic. It is a free app and very reliable. But let's hope that the Gallery-app is improved on ICS.

I also love Quickpic, however the auto-rotate is extremely slow half the time on the Galaxy Nexus. The phone seems to be slow w/ auto-rotate everywhere, but it's even worse in Quickpic.

Have you tried clearing the gallery cache/date from app manager after you disabled google+? I bet they become linked upon initial start of gallery.
Yeah, that was the first thing I looked at.
Actually, now that I think about it, I did a settings wipe through titanium backup, but not a cache wipe through app manager.
Hmm. Let me try that.
Edit: Nope, looks like google+ physically has to be present. Silly.
Stupid picasa

Another weird thing with the gallery. When looking at the details of some images (transferred over from PC/Mac) I get a time of Jan 1, 1970. Normaly taken pictures, screenshots and those send from another phone through bluetooth have the proper time shown.
a problem I have sometimes is I get grey boxes instead of pictures
Just poke and hold on the gallery folder then hit the delete button. Problem solved?

[REQ] Google gallery without online sync

Can anyone please share the APK?
All latest baked, oops cooked releases include the annoying version with online (Picasa) sync....
The only way I know of getting it is from Pauls Modaco ROM but you'll need to buy premium to get access to the kitchen to build a ROM with it in.
I'm not prepared to break his rules and post it either, sorry.

I got rid of the "Scrapbook Photos" and "Profile Photos" albums by getting on my computer and logging into G+ and then I just deleted the picasa folder and the picasa feature/service/app altogether. I never used picasa anyway so that got rid of the empty "Scrapbook Photos" album in my gallery. Then I deleted my profile picture in G+ to get rid of the "Profile Photos" album. It took me a loooong time to finally get rid of those annoying albums in my gallery. I tried all kinds of stuff before I realized I could do it that way. After all was said and done, I just deleted my entire G+ account bc I never used it anyway...I barely use FB as it is. I'm very picky about having only what I want in my gallery...as well as on my phone

Am I the only person that uses Picasa for my wallpapers? I hate clutter on the phone itself, so I just pick a wallpaper from one of my Picasa folders and I don't have to worry about all 1k+ taking up space on the device.

[Q] How do I get rid of this crap in gallery?

When I open the Gallery I'm seeing image galleries with pics that have the small Picasa logo in the bottom right corner... some of them are even old pics from a Blogger blog I used to have. No matter what I have tried, I can't get rid of them.
1. I cleared cache and data for Gallery and Media Storage and rebooted... did not fix it.
2. Google+ Instant Upload is not enabled.
3. When in Gallery if I click the menu then "Settings" it confirms that Google Photo sync is OFF.
4. Settings | Accounts and Sync | Google... "Sync Google Photos" and "Sync Instant Upload" are not checked.
5. I went online to the Picasa site, deleted everything, then repeated step 1... did not fix it.
Any help would be very much appreciated. This is really irritating.
EDIT: I managed to now have it reduced to showing only two extra galleries now... (after #5 plus choosing "Refresh" from the menu in Gallery) ...but it's still showing "Profile Photos" (with a Picasa Logo) and photos from posts I've made on Google+.... UGH.
Google+.
Delete data.
I hate that too...and it's such a damn annoyance to see those images to me =/

I went to Settings | Apps | Google+ and deleted Data, went back to Gallery and did a refresh... nothing is different.
EDIT: Nope... this didn't fix it. I thought it did for a minute, because I cleared cache/data from G+ then Gallery... but still no dice.
Maybe I'm wrong...I was sure that's how I got rid of 'em.
But I KNOW the refresh is what put them there initially for me.
Maybe google+ delete data...gallery delete data?
And don't refresh.

This is what I did just now:
1. Settings | Apps | All
2. Gallery --> Force Stop, Clear Cache, Clear Data
3. Google Plus --> Force Stop, Clear Cache, Clear Data
4. Home button to home screen
5. Open Gallery
Apparent success...
I opened the Gallery again and it's clean except for 1 wallpaper I have in a folder on the phone, which is what I want (just wiped the phone because I rooted it).
Hopefully it'll stay that way.
EDIT: Still that way even after opening Google+ and letting it sync up and all.
Ya, I've gotten it twice now.
Once when I uploaded a google+ photo manually.
Once when I pressed refresh in Gallery.

Best option I've found is to disable Gallery and get Quickpic or equivalent.
Then you'll have a program that'll respect .nomedia and can exclude top level directories so you don't have to drill down and put a .nomedia in everything else.
OR - try this maybe... find the directory where the images with the picasa logo are stored on your phone, and drop a .nomedia file in it (since I'm guessing it's probably a temp dir or such, and not where your original files are). Then clear cache/data and such... and when it rescans it SHOULD skip that folder.

Crap in my gallery / keyboard autp correct

I'm frustrated by all the crap in my gallery. I don't want to disabled dropbox/facebook SYNC but I don't want anything but camera pictures and downloaded images in my gallery. I tried disabling the gallery options on a per application basis in facebook and dropbox, cleared my gallery data and cache but they are still there.. I ended up deleting some irreplaceable images FROM THE DROPBOX SERVER in an attempt to remove it from my phone... terrible, terrible design Google/Samsung whoever. How do I solve this? Is there a temporary dropbox deleted folder so I can recover those?
Secondly I'm used to my evo where sense would automatically replace a mispelled word after I click space. Here, I have to select the right wprd or it just continues on (and adds the mispelled word, lile now I have "lile", "wprd", and "autp" in m6 dictionary. And "m6"....)

Sorry to hear you're having such an uncomfortable OEM swap. The only thing I can suggest is that you download alternative keyboards and galleries and try them. I have looked for settings that would help you but there are none.
QuickPic is a good alternative to the stock gallery. If you long press folders you can choose to "ignore" them. I think you can even hide folders or have the password protected. I use a keyboard called messagease which has probably the worst text prediction ever (at present) but allows me to write faster and more acurately than any other I have tried. You may want to try Swiftkey, the new 4.2 android keyboard or even keymonk. I think swiftykey lets you choose wether a "space" enters the predicted/correctly spelt word.
Good luck
Under /settings/personal/cloud dropbox disable sync of pictures and video and they will no longer show up in your gallery. I'm not sure on the Facebook one. You will still have all of your other options for dropbox under accounts and sync.
