Hey all,
I'm definitely interested in protecting my Evo upon purchase, as I'm always traveling and it's just nice to save it from any physical harm (as not to induce the +$100 on TEP). At the moment, I dualphone a TP and an iPhone 3G -- both have generic screen protectors and no case.
The two most thrown around names for screen and total phone protection are Zagg and BodyGaurdz. What is everyone's experience with these companies? Do the screens/bodies stay on? Do they really protect as strongly as advertised? Any problems with touchscreen via the protector? How difficult were they to actually apply and are there bubbles or peeling visible (this is my number 1 annoyance).
Didn't see a thread on it, so feel free to throw out some other companies you've had experience with in the past.
EDIT: Those with cases; do you find they're an annoyance when removing them from jeans or slacks? Feel free to submit cases as well, however I really love how the Evo looks, so I'm trying not to cover it up too much...
i plan on picking up an Innocase II
I have the Bodyguardz on my Hero. The big piece on the back cover has proven durable. The small add-on pieces on the sides have started to peel off slightly. The plastic that is used does a great job protecting the phone from scratches and nicks. It is a bit slicker than the Hero's rubberized case so it comes out of the pocket easily when needed. I did not use the screen cover, because I don't like texture on the screen. I opted for Boxwave on the screen instead. The installation of Bodyguardz was not too difficult. It uses a soapy water spray to aid in installation. I was pleased with the end result.
I've used Invisible Shields on two iPod Touches(1st and 3rd gen) and my Hero, they work amazingly. One thing I hate about touchscreens is if say you wash your hands and need to go back to your phone, all the oils of your fingers have been washed out and makes using them pretty awful. Never a problem with invisible shields. Had all of them at least 8 months each(about a year and a half with my first gen iPod). Lastly, I'm a small guy and I like to look my best (;D lol) and I wear tighter slim fit jeans and I've never had any problems with taking them out of my pocket.

Have you tried the full body invisible shields? I do like their screen protectors, and I'm a little curious out the full body protection as well. I've heard (as posted above, also) the BodyGaurdz start to peel on the sides after a short period of time. Have you experienced this problem at all?
I have the Full Body Bodyguardz on my TP2 and the sides peel off rather easily.
I had the Full Body Zagg on a TP and never had any issues with peeling. BTW, I used a boxwave screen protector instead of the Zagg.
I prefer the look of the Bodyguardz but I don't like the peeling. I plan to go with Zagg.
i actually decided to go with what i'd heard the best things about for the HD2 and get a DQC-160 (made by 3M) here : protectionfilms24.com/article/vikuiti-dqc-160-screen-protector-htc-hd2-28087.html

Always the full body protection, on the first gen ipod it fit perfect, my hero it first perfect, but because of the odd contoured shape of the 3rd gen ipod touch the corners started peeling sooner than the other two. But my first gen started peeling after a year and a half, and I've had my hero since launch and still no peeling on this one.
zagg
its funny about the invisishield, i had one on my iphone 3g and it seemed to peel about every 2 months, and i always got it installed professionaly at a kiosks
I pre ordered an xoskins for $11 bucks for a full body. Google them, they have had nothing but great reviews.
Ghost Armor is the way to go. $14.99 for full body armor and it doesn't have the orange peel effect a lot of the others give you. Also they use usps priority shipping and it comes with application kit. Biased since I run a cart for them lol. We are opening Monday at Town East Mall in Mesquite, Texas so come by and take advantage of a free professional install and lifetime warranty. If you are in the phoenix area we are in every mall.

I like bestskinsever.com
super cheap and durable.
Zagg
For those of you with invisibleshield, you should know that Zagg says they replace for free, for the life of the device, any of their skins that tear or peel. I think that is the way I am going.
I have never had any luck with Zagg. I always have orange peel. Bodyguardz has never given me fits, and once its on, its really on there. I love bodyguardz
You guys know that Zagg has a huge memorial day sale every year right??
http://www.zagg.com/j/memday2010.php
I think i may be buying one for my evo that im getting next week
ZAGG
I was just about to post about the zagg sell guess turbo beat me to it, i ordered mine last week, had a 50% off code from the ipad giveaway, but i have had zagg on multiply devices, and never had a problem, I even show off to my friends by trying to scratch the screen with my keys, and great customer service... By the way i have the full body coverage..
I have a zagg on my Touch Pro, Ipod and son's DSI. I had to replace the one on my Touch Pro twice because of issues with the Touch Pro where I had to send it in for repair. Both times, Zagg sent me out a new full body kit, I replaced it on the phone and sent back the old one. Only cost me $3 something for shipping each time.
I did notice the first time I replaced the skin after about a year that it had a yellowish tint to it when I took it off the phone but I never noticed it yellowing while it was on the phone.
One last thing that I have seen a lot of people turned off by is the "Sticky" feeling the zagg skins have. I don'y know how many times I almost dropped my Touch Pro where if it wasn't for the "Skickiness" of the skin I wouldn't have been able to catch it. I like the feel of it and it keeps it from sliding around in the car when I throw it on the dash.
I already received my new Zagg for my EVO...just need the EVO to go with it now.

HAHA 'professionally' and 'kiosk' shouldn't go together in the same sentence.
I just ordered a ZAGG due to the sale, $15 and change inc shipping. I was looking at their videos and such, it looks very easy to install and seems like it will work great.
Ive used zagg on a couple of devices now and would swear by the protection they provide, but most recently i left my phone in the car and the edge of the screen protector portion of my device looks as though someone put a hairdryer to it. Lots of ripple like it was cooked. For this reason I followed a link here on xda to "clear-coat"... Bought their full body for 16.24 using a memorial day code I found on their facebook page. Original price is 24.99 for full body, figured it was worth a try considering most screen protectors alone for zagg will run you 18 or more.
There are many topics in this forum about screenprotectors and shield. That's why I decided to make one topic on this subject based on my experience. I've used protectors for the Xperia X1 and the HTC Desire, i've used the following:
Screenprotectors
Brando UltraClear My experience with the Brando's are very good. They are easy to install as they don't use glue, but some kind of static energy, I don't know what it is exactly. Due this, they can be reapplied by peeling them off and reapply them. And you can even clean them with water. This is also a disadvantage, as the protector can move a little around the screen and can be lifted up by sharp objects.
Color distortion due the brando is negligible and in my opinion the brando's have a nice feel to them, which is of course quit important for a screenprotector.
Ebay I've had some experience with these protectors, and while they are cheap, I'm not a big fan of them. They feel cheap and there is too much resistance while touching the screen. I also have my doubts about the protection, especially with sharp objects penetrating the protector, but I have no experience with that. Color distortion depends on how you apply the protector, I have seen some people with some vague lines on the screen due these protectors.
Martin Fields These appear to be the best protectors but I have no experience with them. Please post your experience so this can be a nice overview topic
Shields
StealthGuards This is the shield/screenprotector i use at the moment. The problem with shields is that over time, the small parts (in my case the side of the phone) tends to get loose. That happened to my Zagg shield which I originally bought for my Desire. Since I didn't want to spend $25,- again I browsed around the internet and found this alternative. They are incredibly cheap (Free + shipping, so around $2,-) and hard to beat at that price. The feel of the screenprotector isn't as nice as from the brando. But it's better then the Zagg and good enough for all day use.
The protection you get is very good, every part of the phone is protected by some plastic looking and feeling material. The StealthGuards offers the same protection as the Zagg, and scratches automagically restore as long as they aren't too deep. So you have a lot of extra protection without the bulk and at a low price. Disadvantage could be that your phone gets more glossy. For a matte phone like the desire this isn't something i'm happy about, but you can order matte shields for a small price (which I didn't btw, so I'm not sure how that will look). Also you can't reapply them as they use some kind of glue. Personally I didn't have any problems peeling them off (no glue left on the phone, or easily removable).
ZaggIs more or less the same as the StealthGuard, but more expansive. You do get 2 year warrenty and free replacement for that price, and I guess it's more scratch resistant but with normal use the SG is sufficient for me. I've scratched both with my keys and didn't see much difference. They have more resistance then the SG and I wasn't a big fan of using the Zagg as screenprotector so i ordered a Brando. Installation is better then SG, as SG doesn't even provide instructions or the installation fluid (but you don't need it really, I just pushed it on the phone and it sticked).
BSE is mentioned in this post and is also a cheaper alternative to Zagg.
Installation
For installation of your protector I recommand BillTheCat's excellent installation technique post that can be found here
Conclusion
On a low budget I recommend the StealthGuards, as they are dirty cheap, offer way better protection then the cheap ebay protections and feel better. If you have some more money to spend I would go for a SG + Brando UltraClear combination. This is primarily for the feel on the touchscreen, which I like a lot on the brando. Maybe the MF is better, but I can't recommend it as I personally never used one.
If you have a lot the spend you could look into the Zagg, but you will definitely want another screenprotector alongside the Zagg, which makes it even more pricy. I guess it's protection is better then the SG, but I doubt you'll need it.
This is all based on my personal experience I had with these products, yours can be entirely different and if so, please post it below. I will update this post if users provide useful descriptions on there phone protections.
Great post! A lot of useful information here for those looking to get a screen protector for their phone.
I only have experience with the Zagg Invisible Shield. I tried it on my old hero, and while it's a solid product I just couldn' get used to the way it felt uner my fingertips. I ended up removing it after only 4 days of use. That being said, when I recently retired the old Hero it didn't have a single mark on the screen. So, for me the screen protector from Zagg didn't do anything except lower the usability of my phone.

I don't like pouches, they add weight and slow the process of quickly checking my phone This one looks nice though
I've been using Martin Fields protectors for a few years now. Better quality than most and cut very well so that they cover the entire screen. Easy to apply without bubbles forming and can be removed without leaving residue on the screen.
One thing that i have noticed is a discoloration/wearing on the shield in the most frequently used areas of the screen. It's only noticeable when the screen is off though.
These are very costly compared to most but offer a good level of protection and last for ages.

I actually found the naked N1 screen a bit hard to get along with. My finger wouldn't swipe across smoothly and felt 'sticky'. The MF protector was actually an improvement although it takes a days use to wear in properly. I've had the same protector on for a year now and it's still going strong
i use a zagg and love it! goes on great but does feel funny something you just have to get use to the only bad thing i noticed is when i tried to put the one from my white streak on my black streak the screen was totally unresponsive so i had to get a new one bestbuy replaced it so no big deal couple of my friends had the same problem so i guess you can't use it more than once. it will mark up i dropped my streak and tried to stop it with my shoe and ended up kicking it across the room and it put 2 small marks on the zagg but other than that its great and i do recommend it. a little pricey though!
A very good alternative, actually better and a lot cheaper than Zagg, is BSE: http://www.bestskinsever.com/
I started using them on my last 3 devices and have never looked at another product since.

+1 for BSE, I've used them on almost every phone since my BlackBerry days. I've tried others and keep going back.
The ShieldGuards are really good they might be better than zagg I recommend this
Invisible Shield from Zagg is always a good choich but a little bit pricey. They just recently released the universal screen pack to Radioshack so they should be available to you locally. Which is always ideal for me.
They price at 14.99 for three.
I have never tried bestskinsever, but I used Zagg a couple of times when it was still called Invisible Shield.
Is bestskinsever the same sort of product? That is, is it sticky to touch, or does the finger slide like it does on the screen?
Also, does the screen protector part have the orange peel effect, or is it mirror-like, like a normal screen protector?
The Zagg style protectors are fantastic for the body of electronics items, but imho very bad news for screens, especially touch screens.
Updated startpost with BSE. I will take some pictures of the Stealthguard installed on my device
Im thinking about getting a zagg. they just gave me a simple screen protector from verizon when i picked up my thunderbolt. definitely not going to cut it.
Updated OP with link to the installation technique guide from BillTheCat

Those are new to me. How do they feel and react to scratches?
bought my hd 2 with a screenprotector today and the protector is shining under the sun. can't see a thing.
It seems the StealthGuard is no longer free, however, for $10,- you get 2 protectors, so it's still very competitive when compared to the others.
Edit: There seems to be a workaround and still get the protectors for free if you sign up to become a devaffiliate. I haven't tried this myself (mine is still on), but it's worth a shot. (here or here)
I received my full body protection from Zagg and to be honest I am not 100% satisfied. First off, on a side issue, I ordered the "full body maximum" protection from a seller on eBay and only received the "full body" despite paying the extra for it. That however is something I shall take up with the seller.
Upon beginning the installation and attempting to peel off the thin plastic, it became apparent that it was stuck to the paper it came on and resembled that of what sellotape looks like once stripped from paper it was applied to. See attached picture and you can see the state that the paper is in. I have fitted Bodyguardz products to both my previous HTC Desire HD and HD2 with no such problems.
I was not happy and almost stopped there ready to box it all back up and return. Instead, I tried my best and and despite it being very fiddly I managed to peel it away from the paper it was stuck to and decided to proceed with the installation. The front and back went on fine. Then came the top bit (or whatever bit its supposed to be). I am a little confused as to why Zagg would include 3 parts in their "full body" and then include one extra bit in their "Maximum". Either that or I did receive that "maximum" and its only supposed to have 3 parts but I would of presumed it would of been front and back in one type and then front, back, top, bottom and sides in the "maximum" protection pack?
The annoyance as you can see in the picture attached, is that this random extra bit is cut so poorly that it neither fits at the top or the bottom. At the bottom, it would directly be blocking the USB socket. At the top, it isn't cut in a way that would avoid blocking the headphone socket.
So.....whilst the front/back pieces dry up on my SGS2 overnight tonight (Ihaven't bothered with that extra bit), I shall be contacting both the eBay seller about receiving the wrong product and Zagg about my disappoint with the products cut. Any suggestions on what I should do? Am I best contacting my supplier alone, will I have to return the protection Ive got for a refund, or am I best going straight to Zagg in which case would they request I send the invisibleshield back?
Whether you want to buy one for yourself, I'll let you decide that!
in your second picture that part goes on the bottom of the phone and that cut out is for the speakers !!!
i have the same kit and the bottom part should not extend to the USB port.
Zagg sucks real bad! Used to have 2 of them on my Galaxy S and I spent almost 5 hours installing the second one. the end result was awesome. You couldn't tell it was there.
But then after 3 weeks, it started to peel off near my home button... And then I always had to be careful while I wanted to get the phone out of my pocket!
I ain't going anywhere near that $hit on my Galaxy S II.
Do'h!!!
Well I feel a tad stupid.....oh well, a slight oversight on my part it seems!!
I shall put this down to experience.....
omg
Are you sure the product is genuine?
I ordered a screen protector last week from the site of ZAGG
and is also a maximum package.
The package had not arrived yet
Do you recommend me not open the box and sell it? or maybe install only the front screen protcetor?

I'd think it'd be safe if it came from the original Zagg site. After overcoming my daft moment, I installed the final piece and relatively happy with it. The back has a section of bubbles which haven't gone yet, they should hopefully disappear. Annoyingly there is a tiny 'bit' underneath the protector on the front of the screen producing a black dot. Heres hoping that goes too!

Really? What did yours look like, as in what differences from what you can tell? The one I received was a dam good fake if it was, has Zagg printed on the bottom right of the front protector, came with instructions etc I believe it to be authentic.
I used to use the IS for my blackberries. But ever since I got my iphone and other smart phones I haven't touched IS. I don't know. I don't like them anymore. It takes too long (12-24 hours to dry) and I can't be that long without my phone, and then within a few days the corners begin to peel and then I have to pay shipping to get new parts then the 12-24 hours begin again. Get a nice case That's that! It won't make it as thin, but it will protect it more, and there's no peeling or waiting or anything
That is why you never buy Zagg, they are probably the worse out of all the skin protectors that are used for NASA and luxurious cars, I believe its called thermo something . The best ones are Skinomi's TechSkin and Ghost Armor.Although, I prefer Skinomi, due to their less orangepeel effect and they cost about half the price of Ghost Armor. NEVER BUY ZAGG they have the worst Orange peel effect and are overpriced!!!

Thanks for the advice. How do you find the coverage on the Skinomi, which areas are protected e.g. top, sides and bottom?
I have friends that tried Zagg products before and the results were devastating.
I don't recommend them at all and I don't recommend any product at all, that it's application involves solutions of any kind...
The reasons should be obvious to everyone...
Here are pics of my phone with the maximum protection on it. I like it because I can toss the phone around and still keep it in my PDAir belt case. It's the first time I used Zagg's (I've used others) and it went on more easily than most. To the poster who seemed concerned, the solution they include is lubricant, not caustic acid.

Just go to the website, google it, since rules say you can't post outside direct links. They offer the full body skin front, back, and sides $19.95. Also, just the screen $11.95. They carry the Carbon Fiber skin in 2 colors black and silver as well, it comes with the screen protector $24.95. Also a wood full skin also $24.95. They are probably one of the cheapest and best out there.
Sorry for the late reply btw. I just bought the silver Carbon Fiber Skin today. The Screen Protector is great.
They ship internationally too.

One question only my friend:
For how long are you using zagg ultimate protection???
* Of course I know that the solution is lubricant, I am not as stupid as you think...
Only zagg recommends lubricant for the application of the ''shield''...

About a month. The lubricant made it way easy to put on because you can slide the pieces in to place once they're on the phone. When it dries there are no finger prints and no bubbles as you can see in the pics. Their covering is a bit grabbier than others I've used but I buff it with some ArmorAll occasionally to keep it slippery. I'm not a Zagg's fan - it's the first time I've used their products. The big benefit to me is that the phone looks naked and I can slide it in and out of my belt case and use the Samsung accessories without the protector coming off.
Last time I used a Zagg "shield" was on my old N97 (...) It looked great for a while ( a few months actually) but then the glue started to come loose and the shield started peeling off slowly plus due to it coming loose the edges started to look really scruffy and dust kept piling under it.
So I guess what I am trying to say is, it'll work well for a while but you will need to replace it sooner than if you were using other products already mentioned on this thread (Skinomi), but then again this is my experience, you may be luckier.

That is why you have the lifetime warranty... Also, I have heard Best Skins Ever also may be an alternative. Also, I only recommend Skinomi if you take good care of your device as if you push down on the Skinomi screen protector the mark WILL NOT DISSAPEAR. So use only if you take care of your device i.e. Having a pouch for it, careful installation, and only finger not fingernail use.
A really good solution would be Ghost Armor, but they don't have the S2 available yet as they are located in America and not much demand I guess, sent them an email and they haven't replied for about a week.
I bought the full body armor as well and was a bit dissapointed too. The fit is good and I manage to install it within reasonable effort. But as expected, the bit for the battery cover won't stick properly due to the texture of the cover. I was expecting some kind of hard plastic protection, but instead, the cover feels soft and you can mark it easily with finger print. I didn't even bother installing the screen protection. Won't buy it again.

Yup that's correct, but even with the warranty I feel it's too much faffing about, but others may be OK with it.
And yes you do need to take care of your device, but then again these phones are so expensive you would be a fool not to .
Like I said tho, people have different experiences & taste, in my experience clear shields, clear cases, clear desktop towers (yup .. I had one of them 100% clear lol...) etc. always get manky in the end, this time I went with a Zenus leather case thingy, lets see how this works out.
But yes, indeed you are quite right
That's the response I always get. I have the Realook screen protector, I think you can only get it from Amazon.
I've been very happy with Ghost Armor.
I like Seidio's Ultimate Screen Guard.
HTC EVO 4G screen protector
This is where i ordered my screen protector, much cheaper than local shops. crystal and just like you never use a protector on your screen.
I forgot the name brand, but I have a privacy protector. Not because I want to conceal my privacy but because most privacy protectors offer the thickest of SP's!
100% recommend Zagg.
Great protection, dosn't smudge, and lifetime warrenty. I have sent mine back twice now (first time was because I managed to get dirty under it, 2nd because I shattered my screen) and I get a brand new set. Peel it off send it back, done.
Hey,
I agree zagg all day every day! Their protectors are cheap thin, the feel is amazing, they protect from scratches and you can beat them up but it keeps your screen safe! they are easy to apply with solution, and best part when you want a new one just pay a few bucks for shipping send them back the old one and its free!
this video says all! hope i helped!

Zagg is by far the best imho
I had ZAGG on mine for several months. It worked great. I took it off because I didn't like the feeling of it compared to the "glass" feel. I've had it off for a couple months and still no scratches and I like the phone a lot better without it.
I just tried the new anti-glare version from zagg, it was horrible!!! It was like looking through crystallized glass, especially when there was white background. I went back to the original zagg and love it.
I use the one that came with my OtterBox. I thought I was going to hate it but rarely even notice its there any more.
Clarivue. Can barely tell the difference between it and the glass. Just bought my gf some generic ones off Amazon for her shift and the quality was really good for a quarter of the price. Don't think I'll be buying the name brand versions anymore but if I did I'd go with clarivue.

I also use the one that came with my Otterbox case. Before that I also used Invisashield(Spellcheck ).
The touch screen is more prone to breaking from pressure or impact then from scratching.
yess finished my fiends...
I have to say Zagg is the best. For one, if you have them (or someone like best buy mobile install it) both the screen protector and the installation have a lifetime warranty. Meaning if your screen starts to peel off, take it back to Zagg get a new one free, and get the new one put on for free!
i dont like screen protectors and cases and mi phone is perfect but depends how you use it
i've used an the otterbox one for a bit and then a zagg when that wore off but now i have SGP STEINHEIL anti fingerprint one. i didnt really care bout the fingerprint part but liked that it was slightly matte so its wayyy easier to see with sunglasses on
I'm using the one that I came with the otterbox. It has been on since September, with heavy use/abuse. Its just barely starting to peel at the corners.

Zagg since launch day. Has a couple of pretty decent "marks", but when the screen is on you cannot even notice it. It is the only protection that I use. No peeling so far.

Zagg! You cant beat the warranty if something does happen to it. If you can find a kiosk let them install it. Its the only thing I will let someone else work on my phone.
Hey guys!!
I am looking for some insight on my choices for accessories!
Anyway been using the phone (still have the plastic it came with on it!) So far so good, phone is one hell of an upgrade. Been using it for lots of use cases, even done some homebrew with some engineering/science simulation and running codes/processes on it. USB otg coming with it is a godsend for external capabilities. Edge display isn't annoying, i get the full screen and plus the edge as an extra.
Now I am thinking of getting scratch resistance screen and back protector since the phone is "shatter proof" to a degree and I will be also getting a case, something strong but small profile like speigen (with a tpu layer maybe? never used tpu layer cases before on my note 3). My issue is that aparently it scratches easily, but based on Cornings damage control they say its more due to micro material chaffing off the tool than the actual glass scratching easier? Don't know what to believe, I wanna take precaution on an expensive phone right?
So I got a clearplex screen protector from best buy today. Its been 6 hours since application and it seems to have cured in, no microbubles and anything liquid is gone, making sure the edges cure to before i put it into my spigen slim armor case which should hopefully not peel the protector off.
Now that I have it kind of fall/shatter proof and scratch proof I am wondering if I need anything to cover my back as well for when i switch cases or go bare. I still have the plastic film that came with the phone on the back. Anyone ever keep it there? Or should i remove it? Are plastic protectors for the phone back needed if i have also a case?
