[APP] KernelHub - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

Attention all Theme and Kernel Developers all devices
Hello, I worked in the past with The OG Droid, HTC Incredible, HTC Thunderbolt in a Team environment and solo. I began my work with Kernels and later moved on to work with JRummy and N8Dyddy in Lithuimmod. That was back in the day "ha". Altough the last kernel work I did publicly was with the HTC Thunderbolt I have continued to follow the world of Android very closely. I since have switched carriers and sport the Awesome Samsung Galaxy S2 Epic 4g Touch.
Today I am inviting all Kernel and Theme developers to post their work in my new app that will soon be released to the Market. The app will be a centralized location for just Themes and Kernels to be downloaded and brief info about the work. I know time is valuable, my intent is to cut down the time to find the latest and greatest, offering these hard working developers another channel for their work to shine, not taking away from this wonderful forum of course. I enjoy the forums and only truly enjoy them when I am home from work with a drink and can take in all the info.
I look forward to hearing from all .Thank you and it feels good to be back.
Developers please send me your info i.e
Device,Build info and any other relevant information.

Correct me if Im wrong but the XDA app description allows to respond to threads PM's. This is different.

so this app will allow you to download and flash kernels and themes directly to ur phone from this app or am i misunderstanding? if so what about mods?

Wonderful. Back when I was helping out with Team Phoenix Roms on the Captivate we had a home-made app like this, but it was limited to just our rom. If you can have it include all kernels and themes for this phone (and somehow allow the devs to auto push updates for their themes and kernels into your app) that would be a wonderful time saving tool.

That is the Goal to have support from the Developers to jump in. I already have a few on board.

Sounds a little like Preware from webos internals. what an amazing tool that was when i was on webos. hopefully we can get to something remotely close to that with this. good luck. hopefully we can get all the devs on board.

So its like ACS's ACSUpdater, Teamwin's KernelManager, or Koush's ROMManager?

Same concept yes but I believe a bit simpler and some more info. Nothing revolutionizing but useful is how I would put it.
I am familiar with Koush's RomManager as some of my Kernels listed in their as well as TeamWin's Kernel Manager. I am not familiar with ACS updater. It will be out soon. Its my first real app so there will room for growth.
By the way I did enjoy seeing your in your opening post for your kernel. Its funny to think that there is some people that believe that devices determine the quality of a developer when the truth is it's the developer that works his ass off that make these devices great.!! keep up the good work.
"I'd like to thank all those people who hated on me, and give you all a big FUUuuuuuu...
especially that guy that said only ****ty developers code on the touch.. you inspire me daily."

Will you be able to flash with this as well? Kernel manager in the market allows you to download AND flash kernels right from the app...

I can't be that fuked up, I was on the subway, and lost data link

I had a feeling that the Rom wasnt gonna work. Everyone who flashed had the same problems I did 2 weeks ago. So far ive gotten a clean install with no errors but not boot. Which means kernel swaps from miui ports won't work. you have to build one.
I am the only one I believe who is actually working on this port. I won't release anything that won't boot, I've made lots of ports with 4 different kernels and they all do the same, which is not booting.
Currently learning to build g2 kernel from source so I can get port goin. If u guys wanna follow me hit me up @brownboyrx.
@gridlock32404 is helping me so if u know him, then u know I'm not joking. I really wanna get miui on g2 for me and everyone, stay tuned.

From what I've seen with Miui, there are several different themes. iPhone theme just happens to be one of them.
There's a lot I like and a lot I don't like about MIUI, but I think MIUI with ADW could be quite nice. I also like dev's that post bootable shiz.

Miui is a ROM built by a group of dedicated Chinese Android developers and was intended to be used in China to show off the Android platform. It was accidently discovered by a user over at the N1 forum some months ago and news of the discovery spreaded like wildfire overnight within the Android community. Since then Miui has been enjoyed and ported to a number of popular Android devices. Miui was ahead of it's time in terms of features, look and funtionality, it was repsonsible for the working of the radio on both the N1 and Desire running stock based vanilla ROM's. It has the best bits of Android and iphone and offers a very unique user experience, on a personal level the UI is intuiative yet beautiful. If you can get past the iphony look then am sure you'll enjoy this ROM if not then using a 3rd party launcher will get rid of most of the iphone look. The ROM is quick and stable and is updated every Friday at 3pm China time.
Check it out on their official website and be sure to use google translate as it's in Chinese;
http://www.miui.com/index.php
English forum;

That was a great synopsis above.
The key points of MIUI:
It is Faster
Universal Themes
I still love Cyanogen too. My nexus runs MIUI and G2 Cyan. Good mix.

I started porting today and it boots up. But if I start any app and want to go back to homescreen I get a flickering screen. I have to disable the screen and enable it again. Then it doesn't show the unlock screen, just the statusbar (without clock) and the wallpaper. But if I touch the screen on the unlock position it vibrates. But it doesn't unlock. For unlocking I have to open and close the keyboard. After that the statusbar disapears and doesn't show up anymore until I restart.
http://pastebin.com/cnVFF9WF
Guess the main problem is because of this
Code:
I/WindowManager( 1520): Out of memory for surface! Looking for leaks...
But I don't know what I can do to prevent this.
Kernel is the latest one from CyanogenMod. Many other things work like bluetooth, radio, camera, torch, wlan...
With LPP it works alot better but there are still many bugs like the unlock screen not showing up...
Well thanks very much.

[KERNELS] Looking for Kernel Developers for Kernel Manager!

Hey everyone! I wanted to introduce a new project with a very simple but ambitious goal: create a place where all kernel developers can submit kernels easily and reach a much wider audience with ease.
Using Kernel Manager to flash kernels takes less than 30 seconds, generally, and it is extremely simple for end-users to find a kernel, filter by kernel features (BFS, CFS, HAVS, SBC, etc) download/install kernels, and submit ratings for their favorites.
We need from kernel developers like YOU! Submitting a kernel to Kernel Manager is totally free and we even provide hosting for you! Submitting kernels is easy, and kernel developers receive a FREE copy of Kernel Manager Pro when they submit a kernel to Kernel Manager!
If you use IRC, join us in freenode in #kernel-manager!
THIS LINK IS FOR KERNEL DEVELOPERS SPECIFICALLY! Go to http://kernels.teamw.in and register for an account! Once it's approved, you can easily enter new kernels, which immediately show up in the app. The app is currently available in the market.
Please feel free to provide me with any feedback you have, or feature requests in order to make this a great tool for all of android to utilize!
Should I submit my kernels to this? This guy is making dough off this which I have no issues with at all...
Just wanted some opinions from you guys...
If it makes easier for us to keep up with your work, then whynot?
How many other Dev's have starrted using?
It's like Rom Manager for kernels, no?
If this had other features developed into the app and happened to support kernel downloads it'd be one thing, but I will not be paying someone else so that I can have access to the kernels that originate here. I'll save my money for the kernel devs. That being said if others find value in this, or if the dev community thinks it will do some good I'm all for it.
I see a **** ton of people having problems and coming straight to you faux.
I say make em flash the old fashion way... it at least deters some of the noobs. Making it something where anyone can one click change kernels.... sounds like opening a big can of worms.
Just my 2¢.

+1 I would like to see less repitition in the forums of "help I'm bricked!" Then 3 posts from a senior member with some knowledge "oh I just had 2.5.1.2 installed or 3.0.0.5" then there's the others like (this still makes me laugh) my internets slow, must be the sim card! Lol. Sorry rant I think it'd be a good app if only available to more seasoned users to inhibit the amount of screw ups..

Good idea, but I agree with the others posts. It would be helpful to have everything in one spot, even with older versions, but him making scratch on you, with you as basically free support?
Unless you want to get your name out there to more people, then go for it.
Thank you for everything so far and in the future.
The problem is, we have so many different roms, and some of them require different kernels.
At least in the kernel threads they can see what works with what. An app like this will see ro.product.device=glacier and pull all the kernels. making it easy for someone to screw up and flash the wrong kernel.

Just to clarify something - it costs nothing for a dev to host a kernel, and it costs nothing for someone to download that kernel through the app.
Kernel Manager provides kernel devs a super easy way to distribute their work for free. Kernel Manager Lite can download and flash kernels for free, so I'm not sure why you feel like you need to pay for anything?

Currently we have 37 developers signed up and submitting kernels.
I make my kernels for ME but share them because it is the proper thing to do. Feel free to use them, host them whatever. I do not want to make any money off of them because I did NOTHING. If you want to make money off of them, or share them feel free. Depending on what you do, I will have more (or less) respect for you. But really, who cares. I respect shiznzul (so far), so have fun and good luck.

The app only displays kernels that are your for your particular device so there's no chance of flashing a kernel that's for the wrong phone.
If there's any question about what type of phone you have (see: samsung phones...), it pops up a message asking you to confirm which of the options your phone is.

What about seperating for different versions. We have two different Aosp formats... and two or three sense formats that we use on the 4g.
How does your app keep other kernels seperate so it doesn't screw up peoples phones?
That is the biggest issue I think most of us on the 4g see.

being that it's in the market there is always a chance it will become a paid app. I just don't want devs to become dependent on it, that's all. I like reading into what I'm doing, so I guess I should ask, is there a section for a changelog, install notes, etc?

There will always be a free version that provides access to the kernels. There is a free version (Lite) and a cost version (Pro) right now.
Pro will just have more features, but everyone will still be able to download+flash kernels for free if they like.

I am going to add a confirmation on the android flavor (AOSP vs Sense). I might add a filter option for it, but it's difficult because that field is developer-input. There isn't a standard list.

[ DEVS ONLY ] GT-I9100XXKP8 ICS 4.0.3 IML74K System Dump

MOD EDIT/NOTICE: You all accept the risks of flashing this - anyone caught complaining, flaming or idiot posting will receive a 24 hr ban. Off topic will also be subject to the same.
Here is the system dump & custom TAR of the ICS XXKP8 ROM that was leaked for the international version. This version will boot on our phones but without a CDMA kernel, there will no data, wifi, CWM, etc, so this is meant for DEVS\POWER USERS ONLY to play with.
DO NOT TRY FLASHING THESE FILES UNLESS YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING, DON'T COMPLAIN IF YOU DON'T KNOW HOW TO REVERT TO A WORKING ROM AS YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED
GT-I9100XXKP8_4.0.3_IML74K.7z - System dump plus zImage
GT-I9100XXKP8_4.0.3_IML74K.tar - Flashable through ODIN
interesting, thanks for this. how far do you suppose we are from a somewhat functional ICS build?
ninja edit: first!
Oh man, thing's are getting hot in the kitchen.
So just a quick question: Why wont this won't brick our phones? Why have their been so many people with bricked phones for flashing international ROMs?
Other then that, awesome work. Just saw your Stock EL29 repack. Youre on fire !
Sweet, great job calkulin... you the man.
I'll do a quick review video of these for sure
This is a good starting point. We need to someone who can hack the 2.3 kernel to run Android 4.0

Because this is just the kernel & system files. If they flashed the complete tar(modem, bootloader, etc), then they definitely will cause a lot of issues
When you get that one bastardized kernel, it'll be good for all international ports to use for awhile til we get source

It has it's issues, front cam doesn't work(main cam works tho), rotation is inverted, no data, no wifi, etc but at least we get a feel for what the official ICS update will be like once it's released. If we get a working kernel, then fixing those issues wouldn't be that hard as I have fixed them before on the EVO ports but until we get a kernel, I'm not even going to start trying

Yep, although if you wait for it to unfreeze, you can then move around momentarily, before it freezes again...so far I can see that it DOES NOT have the face unlock, and other than settings, popup\menus and the Gmail app, which you can notice a difference right away, even without emails in it, it looks pretty much the same being that its TWIZ and not AOSP!

For many many reasons, not least of which was no significant progress towards ICS (which at that point needed CM7 as a prerequisite). Hopefully with the system files maybe someone can drag up that kernel and see if they can be made to work together but I think it is a CM kernel and I'm not sure that could be made to play with this...

[ROM][TW][GB27] build-a-rom 6/30/13 [deodexed][4.1.2]

build-a-rom
This is not a daily driver. If you have never been on a TW JB deodexed stock ROM, then this is not for you. Flashing this ROM will boot up to the following stock, unmodified apps as packaged by Sprint: If it is not listed here then it is not included:
Phone, Contacts, Settings, Internet, Sprint Hotspot, Play Store.
Also included are ROM Toolbox Lite (jrummy), SuperSU (chainfire), and erikalin-stock app. This ROM flashes Agat63’s v1.3.0 kernel, and it has the boot animation from the S3, sound removed.
The pure Stock GB27 TW ROM zip is 507MB. Build-a-ROM is 242MB.
Why try out build-a-rom?
We have always been able to flash the nice custom ROMs on here, flash the mods we like which other people have figured out and packaged into flashable zip files for us, and just enjoy the phone. And you should keep doing that, and click the thanks button all over the place while you do it. Build-a-ROM is for you to give some of this a shot for yourself. There are exactly two stock apk files left in here that you can delete and still boot to a phone, and that is the browser and the play store.
What can I do with build-a-rom?
The work for build-a-rom comes in two categories:
(1) Easy: Installing custom mods and apps that are already available for you. This involves either flashing a prepackaged zip file, or pushing an app into the system/app/ folder, setting permissions to 0644 (RW-R--R--) and rebooting. You can go get whatever mods and apps and tweaks and kernels that you want. I’m not naming any of them because I didn’t include any of them. You know what they are. Go nuts. Make sure they are made for deodexed GB27 TW ROM for our device. There’s nothing in the way here. It’s a blank slate. If you don’t know how to do these things, use the site search. There are a zillion guides of people telling how to push an app into the system partition, set permissions, and reboot. And flashable zips are flashed in recovery. The recovery in build-a-rom is fine for flashing mods. Wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache, flash one mod per session to be safe, reboot.
(2) Do the first part first. This is a little more advanced but still not difficult. Learn how to decompile and recompile apk files. There are easy-to-use & free programs that allow you to do so. I just typed: "how to decompile apk files” (without quotes) into xda search and got 92,400 results. The benefit of learning these basic tools is that you can then follow the guides on xda. You know all of those things we’re used to having automatically in a custom ROM? ... tabbed settings, extended power menu, transparent things, hacked things, colored things, pretty toggles… etc etc... you can make them, and a lot more, by hand on your own. There are guides. You don't have to beg someone else to make the mod you want for you. You don’t even have to figure it out. You literally copy-and-paste from the guides in which other people have figured out & explained exactly what to modify. No, it’s not “development” but it’s something to feel like an accomplishment you can be proud of.
Want transparent stock toggles? Want to rearrange them? Want to put your toggles down on the bottom of your pull-down and use the top space for notifications? Search XDA for the guides. These are quick mods... You'll be amazed at what you can do. You can build this up to 100% your dream ROM – starting from a blank slate so you can feel good about the end result.
Thanks @kobridge – for pure stock GB27 deodexed ROM as base: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=38923705#post38923705
@tdunham – for the guide on how to make the extended power menu. Check it out. This is a model for what I’m talking about with how clear and straightforward a guide can be: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2125196. This is the one modification I think I left in here for the version of build-a-rom that I am sharing.
@g_ding84 – for suggestions and being nice
@bigmike6200 – for testing earlier version of build-a-rom
@agat63 – for kernel http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2244781
@bilgerryan – for modeling how to click the thanks button appropriately
crawrj - for hacked native hotspot, used with permission (if this is included - I need someone to verify that this ended up in this build or not)
Why say thanks?
Can you even guess at how many people have downloaded and used noobnl’s EL29 direct boot to CWM zip?? It's probably well over 10,000. There are 40 thanks on that post. Ridiculous. And tdunham’s JB Format All X 2 zip?? At the time of my typing this, there are 7454 downloads of that script, and 125 thanks. Also ridiculous. So many people give so many hours of their time making things for us to enjoy. Click the buttons, folks, please.

Disclaimer: The mods and apps and guides and tutorials on XDA are everywhere. Use the site search. I cannot possibly answer your questions on implementing any of those changes. Some of those guides have hundreds of posts of Q&A for just one certain modification. Read them. I assure you that whatever question or problem you have, it's addressed already on xda. Search and read. I’m giving you a stable blank slate called build-a-rom. It comes with nine apps and it works. You take it from here. I want to be clear upfront what I can and cannot support. I can support this ROM, which is build-a-rom and its nine apps. So, for example, if you have a question about how to make a phone call, ask. The building part is really up to you. Browse XDA. The amount of information is astounding... If you’re not sure what you’re doing, then don’t use build-a-rom. If I knew all the answers to all of your questions, I’d answer them. I don’t.

First. Looks fun. I continued my modeling lol.
Just gonna say, this will make a great base for anyone wanting to (dare I say) build a ROM to release (always ask permission first). And with it only being 242 MB it leaves a little room to play.
@erikalin might wanna add a note in there that EL29 can't flash modems and to flash the JB modem after boot if not already on one.

Thanks. ^ Yeah, I intentionally started the OP with, "If you have never been on a TW JB deodexed stock ROM, then this is not for you," to cover that sort of thing. It would make a good base. There's a ton of room. I just listed my E4GT on swappa, so this is all from me... Rooting my new-to-me S3 as we type.

Yeah I'm gonna try using it to see how close I can get to fully porting Xperia Z stock to TouchWiz.

Not promising anything, but I'm thinking of ditching 3Minit and go with a full on Xposed XPERIAnce (pun intended). Takes up a lot less space and has some different features (like using AOSP Themes on TouchWiz)

Hi, bigmike6200,
What is it about transparent apps that attracts? All of team blackout stuff works on JD's ROM, so I'd imagine they'd work on this gem. Their paid app is worth the two bucks.
Beyon a few nuggets from the GS2 international version, I've tried to find what I can, and most seems attached to Omega and similar ROMS. Once taken out, they don't work in isolation. Even the older items created by current team blackout members are gone. I managed to get Speed Test and a few others, but now the links are dead. Would love stock SMS, calculator, etc.
Time for me to learn this process.
Congrats, Erika, and thanks for this and all you've done.

Of course - inverted/transparent apps are good. Install according to however the person who modded it says for each one one.

I'm not bigmike, but I have to say that I love transparent everything. I made almost 40 build-a-rom projects for myself, starting from essentially the version 1.0 I have shared here each time, and trying different things out. In some of them I made everything transparent, although I did learn that semi transparent is often what is necessary. Making the backs of the stock toggles themselves transparent too was fun. There's something pleasing about the transparency and, for me, neon green #ff00ff00. I colored all the stock system app icons with my neon green too, etc. :good: Anyway, micmars, you will learn and invert the stock system apps to share. Cheers, bud!
Thanks!

You, also, Erika! Thanks for the encouragement. I think I found a lot of slimeball themed apps in one of the members of TBO's threads. Have to agree on the semi transparent observation. The Speed Test app to which I referred looks way better in the semi transparent variant.
Cheers,
Mike

Sorry, bud, but I'm not sure whether you meant to ask a question or just make this statement? If you meant to ask a question, feel free to reply back. To take a guess at it: build-a-rom comes with nine apps, and gallery isn't one of them. You'd need that. Or if this is a metro pcs thing, I don't know anything about Metro PCS. Try here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1912451
Edit:
Can someone check this out?
If somebody can check this out for me. because I already wiped and packed up my E4GT:
Is the Sprint hotspot app in here crawrj's hacked hotspot or Sprint stock? I *had asked and received* permission to include crawrj's hacked hotspot but I had decided that I didn't want to include it in this base after all. But... did I forget to take it back out before uploaded? Lol... If someone can let me know that'd be great. I'll modify the OP pending a confirmation on this... Thanks X 3.

Thank you for the reply. Yes, I noticed the rom don't come with message so I try to use Epic4gtouch-jbfk23-metropcs-mms-fix-signed but it didn't give me the option to attach a pic. Any help will be appreciated. Newbie here.

You might want to just go with another rom. That's not meant to sound unwelcoming, lol, not at all. But it's intentional that this ROM is empty. It's for folks who want to build it from a blank slate. Like I said I don't know how metropcs works so I have no idea what works for you. But stuff isn't in here for a reason. That's why I put in the OP that if you're new to JB TW this probably isn't the rom for you... This isn't a slim rom. It's an incomplete rom. You know?

[Q] kinda would like to see some ICS help please?

Okay, so I've had i317 for about 4 months now, its a great phone. I would just love to see an ics 4.0.4 rom, be it stock or aosp,, aokp, etc for this device. The reason being is that there are alot of apps I used to use, such as UMA and a few others I cannot remember as of right now. Forgive me if this isn't the correct area to post the question lol. But can anyone possibly help me with my issue I'm having? A. ort or something would be ideal if possible.
On a side note: I have some prior knowledge with developing roms and getting them to work fully and such, like betas alphas and what not. just haven't gave much thought as to post on the forum untill now. So I'm not completely of the noob calibur so to speak.
Lastly, my final question, would anyone be interested in deving up a 100% pure custom 4.3 rom that is completely Pokemon themed right down to the contacts and dialer. I will include more detail upon request, also one that isn't 10.1 based or cm in general. The reason I say non cm based is because volume+ sound boost breaks the speaker and crackles pretty badly, and i am partialy deaf so the apk is much needed. Any help would be be very appreciated and id be eternally greatful.

It's not going to happen. The note 2 was shipped with 4.1.1 (or higher) so there is no 4.0 source for devs to work with.
Also, since pretty much every AOSP rom uses the CM Theme Manager, it's not that common to see themed roms (there are exceptions, but they tend to be lightly themed). Either find a CM theme to your liking or learn to theme your rom.
Sorry my friend...
You aren't the only one wanting it...
I'd even take a nice CM6 ROM for this device...
But as mentioned... It's just a dream... g

Okay, well shoot. Could you at least tell me that the possibility to get an apk to adapt and work on a newer rom is possible? I ask this because the main reason for me asking a dream question is simply that I love the ultimate mobile armor apk. it is the best privacy apk ever thought of. It was removed for reasons unknown. Back when I had my S3 and I717, it worked on both. Sadly it will not stick on the rooms I run currently. (Cleanrom 5.0, lionrom 2.1, etc.) Could the scripts and such be altered somehow for it to be compatible? On the S3 I always ran cm10 and its stick. Any thoughts, ideas and suggestions that are helpful and or leading to an apk exactly similar to ultimate mobile armour would be greatly appreciated.

Apk alteration is very possible ...
The trick is finding a dev to work it out ...and since apps are owned by their respective creators ...you would need permission from him/her to use or modify the code...
And I've always said it ...
A few emails and pm's go a long way..
Hit up the dev and see what you can learn ...g

Ive looked and searched and I've found nothing from the devs of this apk. Its been completely stricken from the web. What are my other options here as far as these apk Modding concerns go? I've found nothing for secure mobile sadly.
I see...
That being said ...it appears the app has been killed off for legal reasons ??
And lookout mobile is inferior how ??
Most of these security apps are monitored via 3rd party in addition to device activity ...
So it stands to reason that if your service for the apk is dead....it won't work anyway..
Best advice...pick an alternate and move forward....
Lookout and AVG are both exceptional ...and many others are available ..
Norton or Mccaffe possibly too...
Happy hunting ...and sorry I couldn't be of more help...g
