I have a r800a Rogers branded play and i'm still on the 2.3.3 android version - 3.0.1.A.0.145 build, but i want the 2.3.4 version.
I saw some people with a branded r800i flash with flashtool a UK generic 2.3.2 version for r800i and then update to 2.3.4 with PC Companion; it will work for my r800a (or is there a generic SE rom for r800a?) also for the phone network?
Or else can i directly flash one of those (if they are better and working for my play version):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1326459
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1255095
Otherwise the best (or only) way is to unlock the bootloader, if there aren't problems with my version (for example like the r800x)?
P.S.: i checked in the develpers section, but i can't post nothing there xD. I also used the search button finding the N.A. roms posted here...
Therefore i prefer to ask...
You can use a wotanserver for debrand with a genérica r800a and root with doomlord root batch (usb).
Search in google wotanserver and for root in developer section doomlord root

After using wotanserver i can update to the last SE firmware (for example with PC Companion) or i'll find directly the last firmware on wotanserver?
Which button have i to press when connecting the play with the usb?

has anybody who is in canada on rogers figured out how to unlock the bootloader for this phone? or is there a rooted generic world version of 4.0.A.2.368?? ive tried everything and cant get fastboot working
The trick that was needed in order for my system to use fast boot was to disconnect the phone from USB, turn off the phone, and then when powered off, select the menu button (the button to the right of the home button), and hold the button down while you plug in the USB cable. The light above the usb slot will turn blue.
once that is done, use the code that Sony/Ericsson provides, and use that with fastboot.

thats awesome do you have a link on how to do this?
ive read somehwere but cant find it again if you use the custom hk firmware you can get the new .368 ota update i tired the generic north america one and only got up to .145
first of all, setool is not free software. If you want to know more about setool, you can google search "setool".
If you just want a root version of 4.0, i can suggest just flash a hk version 2.3.2, do gingerbreak, then OTA to 4.0.
ill try the hk firmware then ota. is there a specific hk firmware? or just the generic 181 hk firmware?
flashed the generic .181 hk firmware used gingerbreak and did the ota update to .368 and now im one happy guy. not in a rush for the bootloader. thanks for the info

Is (or was) it rooted?
Bootloader locked or unlocked?
Where was the phone purchased - eBay, Cellphone vendor, etc?
These answers will help people determine the best solution.

Thank you soo much, (esp to all that helped) I have another question:
Has any one seen the new update for the Xperia Play? I have not updated yet, however I was hopeing that some one can shed some light on this update, as I am not sure if it is ICS or is it a normal firmware upgrade? I am on 2.3.3, on R800i. Should I do the upgrade or no?
I have a r800a. After I installed the NA generic .42, I began to have an issue with the wifi, that when I first enable the wifi, it finds my network, but if I turn it off and reenable, it no longer finds it unless I go to the config and choose it manually.
To try and fix it, I flashed the international .62 fw. But I am unable to root it using superoneclick and it also did not fixed my wifi issue. Wifi worked fine on stock 2.3.3, can't remember the fw version.
So, is it possible to root R800i 4.0.2.A.62 fw with superoneclick? I saw on the super compilation that it is (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1294129) but I am unable to. Is it because I flashed it on a r800a instead?
Also: can I downgrade the firmware? Like, go back to r800a 4.0.2.A.42 using flashtool?
And lastly: can I get Cola rom on a r800a with locked bootloader? Is it worth?
Nevermind:
- Cola rom is for r800x so I would not have gsm signal, from what I found out;
- Downgraded to r800a .42, no issues, rooted again;
- rooting .62 no longer matter for me since it does not fix my issues.
Hello,
I have a Sony Ericsson Xperia Play and I'm starting in the android world, I've read a lot here on the forum already informed me about what I do to boost my smartphone, I wanted to install a new ROM, and follow what the most part of the posts say, I started by installing the most current Baseband, do Root (all this through FlashTool), install the X-Parts, put the CWM for Stock GB, but when I restart in recovery mode it always starts in normal mode, never enters the recovery, nor with the selection keys or through the X-Parts.
The Smartphone has a locked bootloader, and did what they say on the website that Sony only in internal settings says that this smartphone is not entitled to have the bootloader unlocked.
Can you tell me what I'm doing wrong? Or if there is no solution without the Bootloader Unlocked?
Thank you for availability
Best regards,
Cristóvão Guerra

Search for xparts on here and download one of the older versions. For some reason xparts v5 from the play market doesn't work. Also what version of Xperia play do you have? R800x (Verizon) or do you have GSM version and if it says you can't unlock boot loader you'll have to pay 20 dollars to get it unlocked from an unlock site. Also you can install stock based roms while you're bootloader is locked if you donf want to pay to unlock it.
Please press thanks if I helped.

Do what abdel12345 said for the CWM. If you have an r800x Xperia Play it is unlockable i think. My phone said it couldn't be unlocked either but when i went through the steps i came out with an unlocked bootloader so i think verizon just wants to trick the r800x users.
i have a R800i, v. 2.3.4, baseband 4.0.2.A.0.58, so can you tell me who I have to talk to unlock the bootloader?
