If so, does it help your battery life? and share your settings please
underclocking to 800mhz has no impact on performance AT ALL unless your playing games even still, not much of a difference.
has a pretty good battery advantage with that being said. I keep mine underclocked to 800mhz and have no issues lasting pretty much the whole day with moderate to heavy use

I was wondering what were "optimum" SetCPU settings while running cyanogenmod 7?
Optimum for what? battery life? performance?
Of course, you could just keep it overclocked, as high as 1.8ghz I think depending on your kernel. But your battery life won't be that great.
You can also keep it at the stock 800mhz.
Most people I bet keep it around 1ghz, and have SetCPU profiles set up to lower CPU speed as battery levels get lower and lower.
I personally (not on CM7) set mine up to lower CPU a tad at 40%, even lower at 20%, and drastically lower at 10%.
I guess optimum for performance while saving battery life. I'm new to the whole overclocking and I'm not sure what profiles to set up

Well the thing is its really all personal preference when it comes down to it. Just tweak with your settings and check out your results.
I mean optimal performance with maximizing battery life would follow a few basic profiles:
Screen off: 245min/245max
When <10%: 245min/~500max (my personal preference)
And if you're trying to keep your battery pretty decent, I would recommend keeping your clock speed at 1ghz or lower maximum. Anything higher you're gonna start seeing negative battery life.
There are many other things to do to lengthen battery life that aren't SetCPU related, such as managing your radios and networks.
Will it be possible?
From anyone in the know, are we far off from a CPU OC kernel?
why?! The battery life is mediocre as it is!
Undervolt/underclock could be useful tho.

the screen and the radios are what drain the battery the most.
overclocking won't make a big dent on battery life. but better clock speed management may actually improve battery life.
To answer the OP's question, It's inevitable. the chip is a TI-OMAP, and the original Droid came clocked at 550mhz but was a 600mhz chip. It was able to Overclock to 1.1-1.3GHz stable depending on the persons phone.
I'm not saying we'll see a 100% increase on the Nexus, but It's hard to imagine not getting past 1.6 GHz considering the chip is actually 1.5GHz.
I'm just wondering if anyone else uses their Nexus for gaming, and what kind of life they're getting.
I'm using Android Revolution with the franco kernel. I was playing Majesty (hardly an intensive game) and in 15min it accounted for 17% of what drained the battery. I need to play a game more intensely to see what's normal, but that seems like a heavy drain.
Anyone have a heavy gaming night or two with the phone and know about how long the phone will last? I'm using the extended battery, but even then I'd wager you would see 1-2 hours of gaming at best, depending on what kind of game you're playing.
Looks like I'm still waiting on a phone with awesome battery life for gaming :/. My iPhone came close, but I would never trade this phone for my iPhone when it comes to the overall experience. Any tips for getting this thing to last longer, or is it what it is?
I would imagine battery life for gaming will be approximately half the screen time you get for normal usage. I usually get 4-5 hours screen time normal usage so if played wind up Knight or similar I would expect around 2 hours time. You can stretch it out more if you take breaks and let phone and battery cool down. The hotter your battery the more juice it leaks. Playing with a fan on will help a little also. Undervolting would help some in this situation. And I would imagine a game like ssolitaire you would only lose about 10-20% of your normal usage screen time. Playing with brightness down all the way will probably be the biggest help.
3 hours max I'd imagine, most likely less.

Damn. Thanks. Looks like I'll need a tablet for planes and other travel .
Yea, I wouldn't buy an android device if you wanted to just do some heavy gaming on it.
Vita would be best for real mobile gaming
But iOS would be the best if you wanted a smartphone/tablet for gaming
I get between around 2 - 3 when fully charged and gaming non-stop. A lot of that is screen drain, so if possible turn your brightness down really low. Also it helps if you turn your CPU down to only 1GHz or so. Performance is still fine there but it helps on battery. Be sure and undervolt as much as possible too.
And dont use Franco's 512MHz GPU kernel.
Personally, I use the Glados kernel and overclock the MPU to 112%. Set the minimum speed as 392MHz, and max speed of 1GHz. Undervolt the 392 step to 925mv, and underclock the 1GHz step to 1175mv. Set the GPU to 384MHz and undervolt that as well. Also undervolt the IVA. This will give you good performance because your memory and bus are overclocked to help feed the GPU better, so you dont need a huge core speed for the same performance. Also the big undervolting will help your battery a lot. This is one of the biggest reasons I like Glados, you can adjust voltage for anything and not just the CPU.
If you want an Android gaming device, look into the Transformer Prime and dock. You should be able to get around 6-7 hours of gaming life on that.
I see... I'm surprised the screen is that much of a power suck. Thanks for the heads up though. I'm pretty sure Franco's Milestone 2 Kernel doesn't overclock the GPU anymore. I might just switch anyways since Glados seems to be the better kernel based on what you've said. I'm just worried that messing with voltages will ruin my battery or the phone.
2-3h is about what I seem to get though, so I suppose this usage is normal. I wasn't expecting a gaming device so I'm not crushed. I was just hoping to see better performance gains during gaming with my extended battery. Ah well... As you've all said, I need a tablet if I want a portable gaming device. Don't really want a 3DS or Vita. I'd prefer a platform that does more than simply gaming. Still in love with this phone. It does everything I need. Just doesn't cover the rare bouts of excessive gaming I might take part in .

Have you considered an external battery pack. I have a 2800mah that charges slow and is mainly backup but I think the bigger ones like 5000mah and up can charge faster thus helping playing time. But yeah the vita and 3ds have about the same time off charger so gnex is a lot more versatile. Maybe an iPhone 5 or equivalent iPod might give you playing time you want with bigger screen.

iPhone. helping computer illiteracy become popular since 2007.
When you put it that way... Yeah. Kind of sad that the more modern handhelds have similar screen time to a cellphone, and they do a hell of a lot less.
Ah well. We'll see what the future brings. My hope is that more phones would adopt a RAZR MAXX mentality, but who can say.
Hi, i have problem because i installed a this ROM it's very nice but now my battery suck. Everyday i must charging it. What can i do to fix it?
*bump*
Install juice defender and run it on extreme. It will stop everything from accessing the net and other crap thats not needed. mine is on 89% and its been on for 21hrs, Mind you I only made 2 calls and 4 sms and on the net for 5mins.
You could also use setvsel and undervolt your phone but I think that makes the processor slower as well.
I found mine chewed threw the power at first but with juice defender it seems alot better and I got it set up now so I am not playing with it every 5 mins lol
Ok i try it. If i have procesor setting :
300 @20
600 @30
800 @40
1200 @58
The procesor is slower than if i will improve the voltage? for example
300 @24
600 @35
800 @44
1200 @62
I am not clued up on the settings only played around with OC and undervolting once but there was no point as you will run at the same speed as stock anyway even if its overclocked.
All I know it the lower the vsel is the better battery life you will get. It will also run cooler as well and this helps the battery if your battery or phone is hot the battery will not last as long.
Undervolting also makes the phone slower so this maybe why people overclock to get it to run the same as stock but undervolted so the battery should last longer.
As I say I only played around with it for half a day and just run stock all the time cant see the point in it with juicedefender.
i have some questions on overclocking
1 . How to overclock
2 . Which app to use
3 . The long term effects and the device life expectancy
1. Some ROMs have it built in. You choose a higher speed than your phone default.
2. I have used No-Frills or the ROM's built in one.
3. I have OCed my DHD to 1.5 safely, but every phone is different. If it acts oddly lower the speed. And overclocking too much can reduce the life of the hardware.
I'm considering overclocking as well. Sometimes my phone slows down noticeable during scrolling through settings, I'm wondering if overclocking will solve that problem and if it has a big impact on battery life.

It probably will help, and it does impact battery life somewhat.
