I have a problem with wifi. When I go into settings>wireless and network>Wi-Fi settings the phone will go into a force close. Sometimes it takes a few seconds other times it's instant.
The weird part is this problem only occurs inside my city. If I go out of town or just down the road where i'm outside of the city wide wireless network the Wi-Fi the settings works perfect. I can go in add my networks scan for new networks. No problems at all. Also once I have the networks added they function properly when I'm inside my city network, I just can't open the Wi-Fi settings menu.
I do not believe this situation is unique to my device. I have another local friend with same phone and same problem.
I have flashed the phone with beastmod II and the problem continues. I have ran fixed permissions through the clockwork mod with no change. Like I said the phone works perfect when I'm outside of our local city Wi-Fi. They have 3 networks that are available to city employees across town. Is there someway they could be interfering and even better is there someway to stop this problem? Thanks for any help.
was it doing that on your stock original ROM?
Yes it was doing the same thing on the stock ROM. My friends phone that does this is completely stock.

This is happening to a friend of mine as well. He is located in Bowling Green Ky. Have you found a solution yet?
No solution yet either. I'm also in bowling green, ky. its frustrating that no other cities are causing this problem. maybe then it would be worth samsung fixing the issue.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using XDA App
how did you came to the conclusion "it must be a Samsung problem"?
when according to what you said, it's clearly something local to your area causing the problem
i'm sure if this was a real BUG on manufacturing, a lot more people would have complained about it already as usual.
example the screen colour issue
Every other phone and piece of equipment I have works fine inside the city. I just moved from the motorolla atrix, which worked flawless. never had a issue with any device prior to this one. thats why i believe its a samsung issue

Hi guys,
Trying to figure out if this is just me that has this issue. New nexus as of yesterday on o2. I do have the volume issue for what its worth, but I am getting off topic.
I have been having a problem with the GPS. I have tried it indoors and out. I have restarted the app, cleared cache, re-ticked all the location boxes, and nothing seems to help my get a lock. The closest it comes is about 4700 metres. This is with WiFi turned on as well as an active Sim card in it. My old iPhone without a sim instantly drops the pin on my house. So I guess I am trying to see if others have the issue, and if there is a fix or I have to send it back.
For the record I am pretty new to Android....as in this is my first one, so go gently! Other than this issue I love the phone!
Cheers,
J

That definitely does not seem normal. See if you can replicate the problem in a less built-up area. But at the moment, if I were having the same problem (which I'm not, I get great GPS reception) I would take it back for a replacement.
Hope you get it all sorted.

Well I live in the country side, so that hopefully is not the issue. I turned wifi off and it made zero difference, so it looks like something with the GPS.......
I just tried the GPS app in the market called GPS Test
It says that GPS is on, but it can't find me. Bad sign.
I tried the GPS test app from the market too the other day and it didn't locate any satellites. I think it's a problem with that app itself. No need to panic yet.

I've been suffering from the same problem. I'm used to the GPS icon on the SGS2 showing me a (blinking) dot in the GPS icon. But now nothing.
GPS test app also shows it's on. I'm going to try the GPS out a bit more, but have the feeling somethings up with the GPS.
Using the Wi-fi it's working 'fine'. But I don't feel like sharing info while using this feature.
The captivate had a very similar problem when it came out. Not sure if it ever got fixed. But ultimately that's why I turned my captivate back in.
If you are in the country with no wifi around then I wouldnt expect wifi location to do you any good. Still though, it should locate much better than what it is. I'm in Afghanistan, in the middle of no where and mine locks while only using GPS to within like 30 meters.
original SGS line of phones were famous for their "awesome GPS"
no, it never got fixed because it was a hardware issue...
I'm having the same problem. I'm constantly unable to find my location using GPS. Wi-Fi and mobile networks work but this surely needs to be fixed.
GPS seemed to work after my little trip outside. Sadly as soon as I got back in, nothing. I'll be able to do some 'proper field testing' tomorrow.

GPS normally does not work well indoors.
I know but because I managed to get a location with the GPS on the SGS2, even if it took a while.
I was hoping for similar results (or better) with the GN.
GPS on my GN isn't working at all. Unless Wi-Fi and mobile network location is ticked, the phone can't find my location with GPS. Argh.
Have you tried any GPS apps to see if it's just bad reception from the satellites? That's one way to find out what's going on with the GPS on the phone.
My GPS locks almost instantly, and this is without a SIM card, and in Manhattan with tall buildings blocking most of the satellites. Much faster than with my N1.
no problems here.fastest phone ever with gps and i got 10 phones around 3 years with the function.
sitting in my room on the couch in the second floor.WiFi of only 2G network
and got within 5 to 7 sec a gps fix about 10 meters.
I reapeat,... in my house!not on the street or on the window!
sitting in front of my tv
never got a phone who can give me a signal in my house
my GPS also seems to work fine but during tracking it always goes off lock and relocks
and it bounces on corners like a gummybear

My wife and I are presently on vacation in Malaysia. We're not roaming, using our phones with wifi only. I took the attached screenshot in Kuala Lumpur yet my phone claims it's in Anchorage, AK. It ain't 10 degrees here either (it's in the 90's and muggy). The phone will occasionally report my location as Little Rock, AR or Lahaina, HI but never Kuala Lumpur. It does this whether I'm at a coffee shop, restaurant or in my hotel room. When we were in Taiwan it showed the location properly.
My wife's E4GT correctly says it's in Kuala Lumpur and it delivers local weather. When I ask Urbanspoon for a restaurant recommendation it offers me places to eat in Los Angeles. My pictures are geotagged as Alaska. Netflix refuses to let me watch, correctly assuming that I'm in a location they can't serve. And Google Places always places me in Kuala Lumpur, it even tells me (correctly) what hotel I'm in.
The GPS on this phone was always lousy but I never expected this. So, can anyone give me a clue about what's happening with my E4GT's GPS?
there is a fix just a few post down
i thought the weather and many of those other apps used location services and NOT GPS....i.e. wifi or cell signal for location, either way if your wifes phone is getting the correct info and you are not then thats odd.
are both phones on the same rom/kernel?
Both phones are not rooted, everything shows the same on about phone screen.
GPS most always on smart phones. Try downloading GPS status toolbox (app). You can recalibrate GPS.

Issue 1: Multitouch issue
- As far as I'm aware of, there is no fix yet and a lot of people are experiencing the issue. What happens is whilst in landscape mode, sometimes, if one finger is placed at the bottom left of the screen, and another is placed on the bottom right, it'll fail to recognize the second touch (bottom right). This doesn't always occur, but does happen at times.
Simple fix: Lock the screen, then unlock it
Issue 2: Wifi consistently dropping
While downloading files, or sometimes even watching youtube videos, the wifi icon will disappear for a split second, then come back and an error will appear along the lines of " File could not be downloaded due to an error" or in the case of the market, it'll just stop downloading and give an error.
Fix: Sadly, the only fix that I have found so far for this issue is to get a new router. See my post here I used a Linksys WRT300N
EDIT: Another potential fix is to change some settings with the router but I'm not sure exactly what settings are needed to be changed.
EDIT2: I've created an issue about the wifi issue over here and according to [email protected]:
Im assuming you are downloading huge files using WiFi... there is a notorious bug still unresolved on DHCP leasing time. If your route is settled to infinite (0 or ffffffff) a local timeout of few minutes is applied, thus the download broke and resume time by time because dhcp renewal. To fix this try to adjust your route settings indicating a discrete leasing time (i.e. 24 hours or 2 days) and thi should fix this specific issue (also noticeble when watching youtube videos, that may freeze after few minutes).
Hope this helps.

Hey everyone,
I have had my Galaxy Nexus from Bell for a few days now, and it is a beast Everything runs smoothly, no lag (even with live wallpaper) and helps me accomplish everything I need from a mobile device ( a hell of a lot better than the milestone - international version of the Droid)
However, there are some prominent issues throughout the device.
1.) The wifi constantly times out, it will stop working at random times even if im 1-2 ft away from the router. Also, when I was downloading SD files for a game (asphalt 6 - 524mb file i think), i had to restart the download at least 10-15 times to finally get it to download. Is this a hardware issue? Can this be fixed through a software update
2.) The multitouch doesn't work at random times. For me, whether its plugged into the charger or not, at random times, when you touch the left side of the device in landscape mode, the device will not recognize touch inputs on the right side. HOWEVER, if you lock the screen, then unlock it, it works flawlessly. I am determined this is a software bug (may not be though) and if it isn't could someone please tell me? Thanks. And a lot of people also have this issue : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1385587

I have two question for you awesome people at XDA.
1.) Could someone please either post an issue to Google regarding these two issues or direct me to a website where I can post them?
2.) Could any of these be a hardware issue? Do you think I should return it and get another one?
Thanks so much guys,
Mosh
Would also like to know if the second problem is software related or not :/
EDIT: noticed now that my screen gets really hot at the top. Really hot! Does your get warm aswell?
Don't know. The easy fix is to swap it.

I've been having WiFi trouble with the Nexus too - the phone generally seems to get poorer signal in comparison to my other devices. I've unticked this box, but it still keeps avoiding connecting (and when I go to WiFi settings, actually says it's avoiding connecting to my network because the connection is poor). It's frustrating, to say the least.
Rather than immediately assume that you should swap the phone, or thinking it's hardware, or (?).
What build do you have? There are at least 3 builds available for the SGN.

Seriously people need to stop making such a big deal of these separate builds.
WiFi could be an issue with the router. I had a problem where connecting Nexus to the router would cause both mine and other users internet in the network fail. Once I disconnected, internet returned. It worked on first few loads, then not anymore. Strange thing is that it fixed itself few weeks later.
(Same happened once with another router and when I was using HTC Desire, Android seems to be a wacky WiFi partner)

Not this. If its software you end up with another phone with the same problem.
You may find other radios help with wifi, check the dev section for details if you have a rooted device. Otherwise youll probably need to wait for one of them to drop via an official ota.
As others have said, uncheck the weak wifi option
In terms of the multitouch issue, just tested my device and can't see any issues at all. Could be software related as the screen itself can support 10inputs - be interesting for users on non standard roms to check and see if they do have a problem as this may lend some weight towards the software related argument.

I get #2 in shadow gun if it goes into sleep mode while i'm playing. Its clearly a software issue as restarting the game it goes away.
Point 1 happens to me too. I've tried multiple ROM's. I'm getting a bit worried that it's hardware. It's dropping every few mins when I need it... then it comes back rather quick.
You have any news or has anyone else experienced it?
I'm not seeing a ton of people talk about this wifi problem, so I'm guessing it's not a widespread issue. I'm assuming it's not hardware either, but I'm curious about it. Whenever I turn on wifi on the Nexus and it tries to connect to my router, it disables all other connections, and the Nexus reports that it's not in range of the router. I'm interested in what routers people are using that are experiencing this issue.
I have a D-Link DI-624, a free router provided by Verizon with FIOS signup. I'm using a custom password, not the one that came with the device. I have a 13 digit alphanumeric password (sorry, I can't remember the exact security setting for it).
Edit: Actually been doing some research on this, and it's appearing it may be a frequency / channel issue, that the phone is broadcasting at a frequency similar to your router. Looking into exact fixes at the moment.
I have no problem with wifi and multi touch.
But I noticed that two fingers cannot be very closely touched it will mingle together. For example if you hold shift button on keyboard it could act like normal shift (turn lowercase to upper or vice versa) but its very difficult to use shift + a
Also lots of games exiting on me, first I thought was multi touch acting up so I could accidentally hit home or back button. But then I think its just matter or compatibility of those games with ICS.

do you know if the latest update solved the touch problem?
Same issues here. On the samung version (dont remember the codename) i had this issue so i rooted and changed it so that google updates my phone. But this didn't help either. Still losing wifi when i am downloading. Like now i was going to download 9mm and after 2 seconds the wifi disconnect until i quit 9mm and then it pops up straight away. Can it be a hardware issue?
PS: before i change my phone brand to google, i could see the "avoid poor wifi connection" but now when i go to advanced tab it's gone :S
Ok everytime i try to test wifi in speedtest it says network communication issues after 2 sec of testing. Any info please? Do i have a faulty unit? going crazy over here
For what it's worth, I haven't had either of these problems on my Galaxy Nexus, and it's been on a lot of WiFi networks.
I've gotten speeds in excess of 20mbit/20mbit via the speedtest.net app multiple times on the campus wifi, as well as my parents', and my dorm connections. I've downloaded the Asphalt files twice without any interruptions either time, and I've never experienced any problems.
As for multitouch - no problems with that either. To type in all caps you can hold down the caps button on the keyboard and type - it's never given me any issues. I don't think I've been in a situation where I've felt multitouch hasn't performed right.

especially indoors it can be hard for precise location... if you want it to be more accurate make sure all the gps settings are enabled and also being connected to wifi/or at least having it on will narrow down location...problem is, these run down battery
with poor gps signal the app will grab closest cell tower and guess a location based on cell reception.. which can be several miles.
That's not the issue here. All signals GPS and tower wise are perfect. The map finds us no problem when we open it, but latitude still puts us miles away. All settings are correct, as well.
I've noticed the same problem as well. Nothing I did fixed it either. I've came to the conclusion that it's a problem with the phone. My s3 works fine and my wife's infuse only works some of the time. Lemme know if you resolve this.

I started a thread here on a topic where my wifi and signal bars turn gray and the phone doesn't have data connectivity any more. sometimes this happens a dozen or more times a day and sometimes once or twice.
one response in that thread indicated that 4.2.2 made a positive impact on the problem.
I've been searching for a definite fix for this data/WiFi issue to no avail. I'm not entirely sure of when this issue began to occur but my phone (Toroplus) constantly loses WiFi signal. By losing signal I mean WiFi will turn off and on all by itself. And yes, WiFi sleep policy is set to stay on always. This issue alone made me go back to stock only to find the WiFi issue is present there too. I've also ruled out my router as the culprit. Im suspecting this is a Google issue. By the way, I talked to a sprint store employee who owned a galaxy nexus and after a few minutes of playing with his phone, which was completely stock and never rooted, I noticed his WiFi connection would turn off and on all by itself too. Any insight from anyone with knowledge to this would be appreciated.

Thanks for the suggestion but that doesn't fix it. Are you not having this issue? What's your setup? What ROM do you use? I've basically used all of them and it never goes away. I'm thinking of going to the HTC One when it's released just in case it's a Samsung issue.
I have also experienced this problem, especially at work where the network uses some WPA Enterprise variant. I've digged through logcats and can't find the problem either. A few Google Code forum posts talk about a possible bug introduced by network adapter manufacturers, or wpa_supplicant configuration issues. Haven't found a workaround yet, so I had to go back to 4.1.2, which seems to be stable.

The more I read on this subject the more I come to realize this is not specific to a certain device. The only common denominator that jumps out at me is jellybean. Seems like the issue is with Google, not hardware. Sucks that such a basic feature is not reliable out of the box. At least now I can understand why my buddy calls Android "buggy". Hopefully this is fixed sometime in the near future.
