looking for a good rom - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

i really like myns warm 2.2 but i hate the keyboard and even more the phone set up in it.
the stock phone was way better with the favorites, and recent calls being separate from contacts.
but my prob is i see all kinds of kool themes for RLS 1 and can't use them cus i have warm 2.2 RLS 5
so whats a good stable rom that i can get kool themes for that isn't cyg 7

Mikg is my go to when I'm not using my own, EVO Classic.

Another vote for MikG of you want a Sense ROM. It has a good mix of Sense 2.5/3.0. I have been using it since August and it had been great.
Evo Classic looks great too. I have checked it out and I think I need to spend some more timed with it.

Ummm, why dont you flash a new keyboard to Warm? You can also flash a new phone screen too.
All the information is on that listing under development.

MIUI
For AOSP, i would recommend MIUI. Despite it's lack of WiMax, it is highly customizable, lightweight, and has the best battery life according to Green_Arrow's guide to AOSP configurations.

Best overall ROM for Droid Inc.?

So I finally got my wipe to upgrade from her dumbphone to a smartphone (Droid Inc.) and I'm looking into what are the best ROMS available *if* she lets me hack her phone.
I'm new to this arena since I have a Droid X so I want to know from people's experiences what is the best ROM for the DInc? From doing a quick look through it seems like CyanogenMod 6, SkyRaider Sense or Redemptive rEVOlution might be possible candidates.
I know the CyanogenMod ROM is one of the big ones but I'd like to keep the Sense UI on her phone to make it as easy as possible to use for her (and I do like HTC's overlay.)
So any thoughts? Opinions? Suggestions?
Try out redemptive revolution 1.9. Good battery life and very stable.

I use SkyRaider 3.3.2 with LauncherPro Plus and GOTO as a lock screen and have no problems. I too love HTC Sense, just decided to play with LPP.
Heads up: There's a "General" Incredible subforum for these sorts of posts.
*make sure you know what version of the dinc she has, amoled or slcd, some roms and recovery won't work without fixes* that said redemption rom is currently my fave, otherwise virtuous rom. theres also red raven and feather but wouldn't recommend those for your wife. I believe theres a rom that sum1 made with a pink theme somewheres also but don't quote me on that. if you do any of these look for the new leaked stock kernel, has a lot better battery life and charges in half the time.

I love Cyanogen, if you're looking for Vanilla ROM this is a great choice. I'm using CM6.0.2 right now and I love it. CM6.1 RC1 should be dropping very soon, it's not 100% stable but Cyanogen himself it could be used as your daily driver

I'd stay away from the Desire HD and Z ports until the camera issues are resolved.
I'm using redemptive revolution 1.9 and loving it right now. It just got updated with new framework so its the latest and greatest in my book!
I love the Desire Z port from IncredibleDoes but some people need the camera or would like to have the cam, if that's the case try SkyRaider 3.3.2 its the best one out there for me.
Uncommon Sense
I will stick with Uncommon Sense Rom, its the most Stable free bug HTC Incredible Rom, the feels is likely Sense OEM manufacturer, I did not find any lack at all with the exception of APk Drawer little lag scrolling up. as well is the best of the two world android/Sense blended.
All the rest of the HTC Incredible Rom have several problems that have to be address and for sure Updates will be available to Roms like Sky raider and Virtuous.
Most ROMs are good, but also aren't 100% done. To be honest, if you wife uses her phone a lot and isn't a tinkerer just keep it the way it is lol.
Once camera issues are resolved the desire ports will pretty much be in a league better than any of the custom roms based on earlier sense. I would also strongly recommend miui except that many of the really useful sense widgets have no equivalent ones in aosp roms. I would recommend aosp roms only for people who are ok with constantly tinkering with their phones, not for your wife who will probably want.something that just works.
Until then redemptive, virtuous, skyraider are good choices.

I have tried a bunch of Roms and all of them have their strong points. This is all a matter of personal preference.
That being said, I would recommend Virtuous with the custom kernel or new stock kernel and here are the reasons:
1. It is very stable and fast.
2. Good battery life.
3. Nothing is removed or modded that cannot be readded or turned back on using the tools the developer provided (Virtuous Buddy).
4. Great dev support.
This is not the only Rom I use, but it is definitely the only Rom I would put on my wifes phone.

I would say virtuous or the newest leaked deoxed stock ROM... both using the newest stock kernel.
Only roms I would consider for the girlfriend....
Personally I would just do a few mods to the newest stock ROM minus the bloat.

I switch between Redemption and Redemptive Revolution.
I like Redemption with Kings BFS #5 kernel the best, amazing battery life! It just "feels" good to me.
Wow nice! Thanks for all the recommendations! I don't think I've heard of Virtuous so I'll check that one out.
Also to commenton the tinkering part, she definitely isn't into tinkering...in fact she complains when I tinker with my phone for too long LOL
Going ASOP isn't really an option since the base Android UI is lacking without some extra apps so the Sense UI is perfect for her. I do plan on (obviously) rooting the phone and setting up SetCPU but any additional improvements custom ROMS make are always nice to have.

Best sense rom?

I just found out that roam control only works with sense based roms? It doesn't make sense lol but im new what r some good sense roms. I just want one that's fast...

The two most popular right now seem to be myn's and mikfroyo
Sent from my HTC Supersonic
Myn's rom. It should be near the top of the dev forum...it is very popular.
I am currently running mikfroyo and love it. It is a lightweight rom which is nice because it's pretty fast. Myn's is very pretty and has alot of customization options. I think myn's has a bigger following, if that matters. I would recommend both roms but literally depending on my mood I will use myn's or mikfroyo.
Swyped from my Evo on steroids.
I have MikFroyo 4.5 right now and I think so far I like it more than any other sense ROM, in the past month, I've been on Myn, Ava, Azrael, Evio and MikFroyo (mutliple versions of most of these) and Mik's is def the fastest, although they were all functional and smooth.
However, if you just want roam control, you can use Cyanogen Mod because it has a built in feature that you can switch to roam only. You don't need the app.
Ohh thanks i didn't know that. Well r there any other features u lose with Cm6 that u can use on a sense rom?
Again im new but thanks

EPST, which you probably won't use anyway. AOSP and Sense ROMs are both good in their own ways, and are both equally customizable. MIUI is what I'm running now. Fast, but don't like it that much. Sense based is my preference with both MikFroYo and Myn. I prefer MikFroYo 4.4 over Myn 2.2, but both are really good ROMs. Mik's 4.4 seems a tad faster.
There's nothing really important you'll lose with any ROM (in my opinion anyway) so just flash a few different ones and stick with what you like.
Altho I do think I was getting better battery life with Myn 2.2, but I might be playing around with my phone more getting it back to how I like it so that could be draining juice.
i use Myn rls5 as my daily driver but right now im using Ava Z3 .... i really like Z3 if i could get the battery to calm down.

Not true actually...Roam Control should work with any rom that you use.
However, previous posters are correct in that CM6 has a roam only option built in, it's called "affiliated networks".

MikFroyo for sure. Smooth and fast.
Myn's RLS 5.......I have been a mynion since RLS2......can't ask for more....fast, aesthetically cool.......lots of mods available for flashing.......really can't see using any other Rom...but of course we have to check them all out......Near top of EVO dev forum.

Helping a friend choose an evo rom...

A friend of mine has the evo and i put miui on his phone and likes it but he needs 4g wimax. What rom is a good "total package" (has wimax radio, good battery, snappy, etc.) He doesnt care about overclocking, benchmarks, etc. He just had horrible lag/batt life with stock.

Myns warm 2.2 RLS 5.
Swyped from my sexy EVO.
Mikfroyo is pretty good. I myself run azreal rom and its really snappy and has all the mods that i want.
Mikfroyo 4.5 is the real deal. I really like kernel I am running also. See sig below
If he likes the MIUI interface (iphone resemblance) it will be hard pressed to find anything closer than AOSP atm. If you want 4G, you must use a Sense based ROM or CM7 w/4G. Namely gginggerbread-6.
As for the top sense based ROMs, you want to check out MikFroyo and Myn's Warm 2.2.
He just likes the speed and battery life he is getting with miui compared to stock. Not neccesarily the look
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
I personally would suggest CM7 with WiMax [gingerbread 6].
I agree with Mikfroyo 4.5 for a sense rom. Its a great rom, really fast, and has 4g. Plus there are a bunch of mods and a few themes. As far as an aosp rom the cm7 with wimax is also a great choice. He should just come and look around if he is interested as there are many options.
I would have to agree with MikFroyo 4.5 as well. Lots of themes and mods, plus it is very stable and fast.
Kings Ultra UNleashed fully functional with themes and Mods

EOD for me. By Rag
I NEVER thought I would say this until a few days ago, especially after the bad experience had with it in February, where I said I'd never go back, but I'm a MIUI junkie now.
It's pretty damn sweet.
I've used MIUI, and Synergy in the past month and I have to say that they're both really good ROMs, but I like Sense too much, so I'm on Synergy RC2.
Eternal Prophecy 6.1 - Daily Driver and give awesome battery life
Kings Nightly Builds - Can't go wrong with King
Honestly I have tried quite a few including some ASOP and I find MikG to be great. I like the fact that it is based off of Sense. I did try ASOP (CM7) and it is fine but I was used to Sense and found ASOP to be kind of buggy and almost always missing something (many times there were fixes and work arounds but would take time and often a reflash to apply).
MikG is defiantly something for you to try. As for the kernel currently the stock kernel is really the recommended one with this ROM but I am sure there will be one developed soon. It is quite fast and includes many features from Sense 3.0. Since the kernel is stock there is no overclocking yet but every main feature is included and it seems quite stable for the modifications that have been done to it.
Right now since so much has changed with the transition from froyo to gingerbread there are quite a few updates that will require a full wipe and this gets annoying but I feel he is getting close to a version that will last a long time.
I guess from what everyone is saying I will have to check out Synergy though. Since I went to MikG I haven't read much about other roms lately and need to check this out!

I've played with far too many different roms to count.
Latest few though....
I liked the look of Synergy, but like CM7, I felt it was just a bit too much for this device. Just didn't feel snappy at all.
I've switched to the current Deck AOSP rom and love it.

What ROM do you use?

Post what ROM you are currently using and why
I'm running Synergy RLS1 w/ Warm theme on my Evo
I like it because it comes along with the Sense 3.0 lockscreen, and the developers community is HUGE.
I love sense but I've been rocking decks aosp rom for a while just because of full HDMI mirroring and battery life is great.

Cool! Yeah, battery life would definently be a factor, I barely push out 3 hours on what I'm using now.
CM 7 Nightlies.
I'm using the same rom loving the 3.0 lockscreen (synergy rom latest)
My Oreo Evo 4g G-bread
Currently running Synergy RLS1 but I am thinking of taking a look at MikG. I like the Sense 3.0 lock screen and the Sense apps. I have not tried out any AOSP on my Evo but my (deactivated) Hero runs CM7. I may have to check out Deck for the battery life.
I've been looking into MIUI, not quite sure though. I like how It's more simple, and seemingly cleaner. Yet I'm not a big fan of iOS, which it strongly resembles.

Decks Rom gingerbread-evo-deck 1.3b. This is really the only ROM I've had luck with! I've tried just about everyone else's ROMS and I like the Sense ROMS but after about 2 or 3 days or so I start getting FC's for no apparent reason for my phone process, then sense, then android system, etc...
So until I figure out why I am having so much issues with Sense I'll keep using Decks ROM!!
Deck 1.2.1 with Tiamat SBC kernel.
Light, fast, and great battery life.
CyanogenMod 7.1. Like the stripped down feel of it, and seems to run smoother than 7.0.3.
Still some bugs here and there, but it IS still in development.
Synergy's starting to work pretty well, though. Just hate the lag from Sense.
