Link: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/DJC-16GB-Class-6...AsAccessories_MemoryCards&hash=item2a159c0019
I was also wondering would it be ok to simply copy the contents of my current sd to my pc and then paste it onto a new one? Thanks in advance

Should be fine.
As for copying the files that's what I do, too. But it always messes up my ringtones.
You have to re-add the files to make em show up. You can still see them in the music player, though, and add them as a ringtone that way.
I guess it would be better to do some other kind of data backup.

I always copy my SD card contents (with SD card mounted in phone, connected to laptop with USB) directly onto my new SD card (in laptop using SD card reader). Never a single problem.

Cool cheers guys

[Q] Changing SD Card

Just wondering,
I'm planning to put a new (bigger) SD card in my desire now that 2.2 is out and apps etc can be installed onto it and i'm running out of space.
whats the best way to do it? just a straight copy and paste of all the stuff on my old card to the new one or is there anything else i need to do to the new card before using it as to not lose anything thats on the old one.
I too am interested in this... what is the best method? (I've got a good vodafone desire so still waiting for update)
Also, microSD cards come in different grades... any recommendations??

I did this last week. Just use your usb cable and connect your phone to a pc as a hard-drive. Copy all the files on the phone into a folder on the pc.
On your phone, go to settings > SD & Phone storage > Unmount SD card
Turn off your phone, open up the back remove battery and SD card.
Insert new card, replace battery and cover. Turn phone back on.
Settings> SD & Phone Storage > Format SD Card
Once formatted then copy and paste all the files on your pc back into your phone.
When I bought a 32gb card that's exactly what I did.
I'd move any apps you have installed on the old card back to the phone first.
Copy & paste will do. I bought a 32GB Sandisc off ebay a few weeks ago, turns out it's fake and crashes the phone a lot. Beware.
As for class, I think you need a class 2 card.

Can someone help? Want to swap SD cards.

I have been looking for the last week trying to locate instructions (assuming there are instructions) for swapping out an sd card in the G2. My phone is rooted. Has clockwork recovery, has the CyanongenMod 6.4 Rom.
Can someone give me a brief run down on this? Do I have to re-root and reinstall ROM for sd card swap?
OR, can someone please just post a link to the page (if there is one) that will describe the Rooted, ROM mod'ed, overclocked, and whatever..., HTC G2 SD card swap?
Thank you! This will be really appreciated! Mainly because I am a full time criminal justice student about to graduate with not much time to spend 50 hours a day looking for this anymore!
Sincerely,
Paul
Do you just want to use a different sd card in your phone?

No. Or I guess, yes. Im bumping the gigs from the stock 8 to 32

mount the sd via flash reader or usb and copy all of it over to the new sd card then pop the new one in the phone and presto!
that simple really??? what about hidden files or roots????
Sorry I'm about to do the same thing and was wondering...
Any root and or system files are on your phone. You can swap sd cards freely. Just copy everything to your new on on a computer and your good togo.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
Root and all that is done internally on the phone, the sd card just has things on it like application data, or pictures or music. So as long as you transfer everything from the old sd card to the new one, you will be good

Ok.
Another question in result of this answer, I already have everything backed up with titanium (I think that is what it is called) backup. Same with in clock work recovery. And now after all of these procedures, I copied the whole sd card top my hard drive. Can I put the new card into the phone and use the phone to format the new card so I can do away with a lot of junk that I would not necessarily know about.?Then copy the files I want back onto the new card?
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
Correction. When I day junk, I mean not transferring the un necessary junk from the old card to the me card. And just format thee new one with nothing on it so it will work inthe phone.

Really its an sd card just switch it out transfer any music or anything to the new one it don't need an entire thread

What you need to do, is copy all the files from the old card into a file on your pc somewhere, unless you have a desktop that has a card reader on it.
Take the old card out.
Put the new card in the phone, format it. (menu/settings/sdcard/format)
Then open the files and transfer them into the new card that is mounted in your phone through usb. Or if you have a card reader on your desktop just drop and drag to the new card.
My question is, what class of a card do you need to purchase?
Dunno. It is a class 4, though. I don't think a class 4 will be a bad choice, given the card is rated at 4 mb/s. Something like that. I would think the C4 would be a relevantly fast enough card.
I wanted to let y'all know, I just transfered all over to the new card. Sorry for a dumb thread. I really didn't think it would that simple. But I guess some things are!

New SD Card Question.

So I'm thinking of getting a bigger SD card as my current one is already full( I thought 4 gigs would of been enough :/).
Would switching to a new one affect my phone? I'm rooted and have cyanogen 6.1.1.
Sent from my Pear phone.
Nope. I mean you might have some roms backed up on that
4GB card, like the one you have now on your phone but it will no way affect your phone, rooted or not. All your pictures, music, or whatever files you have on the sd card go with sd card. The rom is loaded on your phone, not on the sd card.
sent from my V I S I O N.
Oh okay. Could I copy all the files from the old SD to the new one without affecting the back ups?

Format the new sd card to FAT32 then transfer all the files from your old sd card to the new one and that's it good to go..

[Q] Changing sd card when rooted

when i want to change my sd card (that already rooted) to a better one do i it just how to copy and paste it over to the new one? and it wont mess up the root right?
You didn't root your sd card you rooted your phone. Don't have to do anything special just change card like you would anything else
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA Premium App
so, if I change the card, what happens to all the files on the original card used for rooting?, don't I need that on the new card? I have an inspire 4g rooted with coredroid. I'll appreciate any comments!
You don't need those files any more, cause your phones already rooted.
If you want to keep any files, you can use a card reader or just through your phone copy all the files to your computer than copy them back to the new sd card.
Also, why are you posting in the G2/DZ section if you have an Inspire?
-Nipqer
It was not my intention to post here to bother anyone, I was just looking for the specific topic and thought it would apply to any particular phone. I actually didn't even see this was for other devices, I just found the info I needed, and thanks to you Nipqer, everything is much clearer now.
No harm done, I was just wondering why you would post here out of curiosity.
Glad I could help.

Swapping Sd
Ok so I have trasfered alot of apps to my sd card. Im assuming if I change sd card that those apps wont work anymore or be on my phone?
Im thinkin I can just send back to phone then pop in new card and transfer them again. Just transfer whatever other stuff I need from my card to the new one lile ROMS PICTURES im sure that all the apps will create its own folders and directories again, so I guess my only concern is the apps being on the card?

Just use a card reader to copy all the files from the SD card to your desktop computer. Then copy them to the new SD card. Your apps will work fine.

[Q] I want to format my SD Card but..

Greetings everyone,
After almost a year of using xperia arc and plenty of cleanups with SEUS I never formated my SD Card. I have a 16GB class 6 one which is half full (Mostly with music, pictures and videos) and yet its full of folders from Apps i used in the past.
The question is; If i delete everything from sd card via computer, then re-mount the card will the needed folders be replaced? Also I have moved apps to sd which i still use, will the folders be replaced aswell?
and last; I already copied all the files i need to my computer, if I will re-download an app and paste the folder back there, will I have the saves back?

a bit difficult, try to delete the unused folders instead
but if you do the right backup of the needed data, yes the data will be there.
and the deleted folders created by system should be recreated

You must make sure that you format your SD card with FAT32 file system. If you are using Windows OS then there is no need to get worried.Just go ahead with the normal procedure.
Once you format, all the folders and files will be deleted and when you mount it in your phone, the necessary files and folders will be created on its own. These necessary files do not belong to the applications you moved to SD card and it means that you must create a back up of your apps before you format your card,in order to use the apps even if you format your sd card.
I would suggest "Titanium Backup" app to back-up your apps. And when you are done with the back up, make sure that you copy the folder named "TitaniumBackup" from your sd card to your PC/Notebook and then format your card.
