Logcat from stock Tmobile ROM to fix WIFI calling app on CM - Defy General

As subject says, Devs need a logcat from a factory Tmobile ROM with WIFI calling app in order to get it working on CM 7.1: maybe you have kept the stock ROM because CM doesn't have WIFI calling! If you have the stock ROM installed please consider posting a log spanning an instance of starting the WIFI calling app and letting it connect to the network. This is your chance to be a productive cog towards progress round these parts so someone please kick in!
The dev requests that the following be added to the build prop:
"set ro.sys.atvc_allow_gki_log=1"
BTW, if you are not familiar with all the jargon of adding a line to your build.prop and using ADB to get a logcat but still want to help now is your chance to learn. Several of us would be more than happy to guide you through the process!
Progress on this issue can be tracked here: http://code.google.com/p/cyanogenmod/issues/detail?id=4283
Thanks!

[UNOFFICIAL] CM10 Support & FAQ's

Hey all
Jdelano started this for CM9 for the OG Epic; it seemed to workout well there. So I figure since CM10 has dropped. Lets get the ball rolling and compile a pseudo FAQ / Support thread to keep the development thread as clean as we can.
I'll scan the CM10 threads and attempt to complile a conprehensive list of problems and their solutions here in a formatted (hopefully) easy to read/find way.
Please feel free to assist in answering questions or letting me know where something new has popped up.
Thanks!!!

FAQ:
Q:Where is the Sprint CM10 Development Thread?
A: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1778266
Q: What version is CM10 currently at?
A: CM10 was just a preview build until the 8/15 release, after which it moved to nightly stage. The Nightly builds can be found HERE. Changelogs for nightly builds is found HERE
****DISCLAIMER**** Nightly builds are the time when many new features are being merged and removed on a regular basis. They are automatically built each evening (most of the time) and therefore aren't tested like the previews were prior to nightly status. Therefore, things are very likely going to get broken from build to build...luckily they often times are fixed within a build or two, but it's up to your tolerance of such activity to determine how you prepare for a new flash. PLEASE ACT ACCORDINGLY. Yes, most of the time you may get away with wiping only cache & dalvic cache before flashing Nightly Rom & GApps zips - but please, make a Nandroid backup just in case. If you really want the features a new nightly offers but a "dirty" flash is causing problems, simply restore your Nandroid and do a clean install for maximum effectiveness.

Q: Suddenly I have missing pictures using the stock gallery app, but apps like QuickPic see them fine. How can I fix that?
A: zanderman112 posted this; which says it may have to do with ROM Manager.
"Released a fix for ROM Manager where missing directories were causing the .nomedia file to be placed in the wrong directory. This was causing missing pictures from the gallery app. Sorry about that! Fixed in 5.0.1.4."
NOTE: you will still have to remove .nomedia files from the folders with media that you want the media scanner to find.

Anyone else getting "Damaged SD Card" notification?
So far, this seems more stable than the CM9 nightlies. So far, the only bugs I've encountered involves some of the already known issues including camera problems and losing root access (reflashing root from recovery worked), and when selecting notification/ringer sounds the sound preview doesn't seem to play (yes, I checked it wasn't on vibrate).
Overall, I am very impressed for such an early build. Will be my daily driver. Excited to start seeing the CM customizations merged.
I updated the thread.
Does LTE work on this Build?
Im in a known good lte location. just no 4G notification.

I don't know if LTE works, but CM10 seems defaulted to CDMA only, so you'll need to change the mobile network mode in system settings to even try.
I cannot get my headphone jack to work with this ROM. Also the camera doesn't work for me if I try to only take a picture. It is completely capable of recording video and taking pictures while recording video.

thanks for posting; as I make my way around the forums and speak to the devs I'll see what I can find for you.
These things will be fixed some time early in the beta phase; I am sure (going by what I saw in the CM9 developement)
Of course my comments are my opinion and have no actual baring on the development time of CM10
Left out one thing, I'm not getting 3G unless I put the phone into LTE/CDMA mode

I haven't seen these issues reported over in the development thread, you may want to wipe everything and reflash and be sure to not restore any data (if you did) and see how things go.

anybody has any sugestion on how to get this fix, i am trying to install the wifi calling app on the cm nightly.
I am trying to figure this out first but I don’t know where to start.

You are better off adding to this thread, wifi calling is a t-mo only thing and built into framework...think some kernel modifications would be needed, not just a matter of installing apk and libs, otherwise all aosp roms would have it already...

Remember! You flash anything and everything at your own risk! Neither I nor anyone else here at XDA or anywhere else can be held responsible for anything that goes wrong!
:cyclops:
I am very pleased to present to you the first Touchwiz KitKat rom for the T999 and variants!!! :victory:
WiFi and screen rotation are now fully functional! HUGE Thanks to @ktoonsez for his kt747 kernel which solved these two very annoying issues!!! If you have not already, make sure you visit one of his threads and thank him for his outstanding work! (We don't even have the kernel source for the T999 and I747 and he still managed to build a fantastic kernel for us to use!) (It is included with the rom, no need to flash separately.
Visit his Kernel Thread to learn more about this kernel!
Currently, there are very few bugs and I feel this rom is perfectly capable to be a DD. See below for a list of bugs and temporary solutions so you can fix them until the next update.
Anyone is more than welcome to use this Rom in anyway they choose without asking permission first! Just please don't forget your credits, and make sure you include ktoonsez, CNexus, JustArchi and the Sprint folks without whom this Rom would not be possible!
This is quite capable to be a base for devs to create or update their current roms with. If nothing else, it would be a great way to get started by using it to test and debug your mods in preparation for the official release which isn't too far off now! (I am told, by someone who I believe to be a reliable source, that KK for the T999 and T999L should be released between 5/28 and 6/5! Possibly sooner if testing goes well!) (I have also heard that more and more test builds are being produced, indicating that they are getting close!)
Please keep an eye on the following few posts for more information about KitKat, and what to expect when our update is finally released. I have learned some interesting things working with this and the guys in the Sprint forums so I hope to relay all of that to the rest of you here.
Prerequisites
You must be running the FULL 4.3 bootloader and firmware! It has been reported to not boot when using the 4.1.2 or earlier firmware. This rom has been confirmed to work with the T999 (NC2 and MJC) and both the T999L and T999N (NC1).

NOTE: I am leaving the above Sprint kernels in case any devs want them for any reason. These are NOT intended for normal use with this rom. They will break wifi and screen rotation is upside down. Also with the secure kernel you would have issues writing to your sd card.
Instructions
BACKUP! BACKUP! BACKUP!
Flash rom via latest version of the custom recovery of your choice
Factory Reset recommended
First boot WILL take a while! Several minutes at least.
During setup, after choosing your language, you will see a screen with "Wait a sec..." at the top.
DO NOT, let the screen time out and turn off!!! (You will have to start over!)
After this, proceed with setup normally and reboot when done.
To fix the WiFi icon in statusbar
Open the Google Play Store and wait for it to load its home screen. Close the store.
Using a root file browser, go to /system and edit the build.prop as follows:
Change ro.product.name= "d2tmo" to "d2spr". Save and reboot.
(Note: by making this change, you will fix the WiFi icon, but will lose the T-Mobile 4G data icon. It will show 3G, H+ instead.)
(IMPORTANT: If you do not open the Play Store app BEFORE making this change, the Store will NOT work!)
Pests (Known Bugs)
MMS will not send with WiFi on - It seems this is how all Sprint builds are made. Not actually a bug, but I am told there is a Wanam Xposed module that can make this work. If WiFi is on, you can send and receive SMS, but cannot send MMS and will just get a notification if one is received.
You can only have one of the following two: Either the nice looking WiFi statusbar icon, or the T-Mobile 4G icon. Fixing one reverts the other.
Pesticide (Temporary fixes for bugs)
WiFi Icon fix
In build.prop, change d2tmo to d2spr. Reboot. -Thanks to @serio22 for figuring this odd one out! :highfive:
See instructions above. This will break the Play Store unless you first open the app and let it load.
I want to extend my gratitude and a huge thanks to all the folks in the Sprint forums for making this port possible! If I forget anyone please let me know! If you see these guys be sure to hit their "Thanks" button!

Thanks and Credits:highfive:
@CNexus - For all of his hard work on Sprints official release, his dedication and for being such a cool Kat to work with! @ktoonsez - For his outstanding kernel and help!
@JustArchi - For his new ArchiKitchen that allowed them to get out a fully functional ROM!
@bilgerryan - For his helpful posts and info!
@DR_CDMA - For releasing the ND8 firmware so quickly!
@serio22 for the WiFi icon placement fix.
@rompnit, @freeza, @sleshepic, @tdunham, @jdsingle76 - For helping CNexus and other posts and contributions!
@srnoth - For being who I believe to be the first to get Sprints release running on a different device (in a bit of a roundabout way!)
@Perseus71, @TheLastSidekick, @Aerowinder, @Woody, @saranhai, @enewman17, @mrRobinson - For always being so cool and helpful! I've learned a lot from them all whether they realize it or not!
Well, now that I have finished up on the Rom (for now!), I am going to try to let you guys know what all I have learned about Touchwiz KitKat in the process. I hope to make things easier for everyone when our official release finally makes it out.
Some of the main hurdles included getting WiFi and Mobile Data to work correctly, and writing to both internal and external storage. I will add more information as I think of it.
If I recall correctly, once they got their rom flashing over in the Sprint forums, it was quickly discovered that their mobile data would not work. It turns out it was a permissions issue and by using the new ArchiKitchen by @JustArchi, it was solved. The ArchiKitchen built a new updater-script that took care of this issue. This is a new Kitchen that started out as a continuation of dsixda's original Kitchen. JustArchi has since done a complete, total rewrite from scratch making it a 100% new and original project! Please check it out and be sure to thank him for his awesome work! I have not had much chance to mess with it much myself, but it does appear that we need to become familar as it will be required if we wish to use a kitchen to build our roms. (As I understand it, CNexus had added all d2 devices to the Kitchen, so it should be ready to use!)
Shortly after getting the updater-script right, there were reports of not being able to write to both internal and external sd cards. The fix for writing to External storage is in /system/etc/permissions/platform.xml
You have to edit the following:
Code:
<permission name="android.permission.WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE" >
<group gid="sdcard_r" />
<group gid="sdcard_rw" />
</permission>
just add a group to look like this:
Code:
<permission name="android.permission.WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE" >
<group gid="sdcard_r" />
<group gid="sdcard_rw" />
<group gid="media_rw" />
</permission>
I was having the same issues with my ported rom at this point, and after much testing found that my kernel solved the issue where we could not write to the internal storage. So for some reason, selinux was preventing us from writing to it. This is why I included and recommend only using the insecure kernel with the rom. You may notice that where you usually see selinux status in About Device, nothing is there.
For those who do not know, KitKat introduced more security features, which is what causes the inability to freely write to our storage. When you install an application it should create its own folder and will then be able to write only to that one. This is to prevent other apps from having access to your full storage and data they do not need. The problem is that many apps have not been updated to make use of this. There is also the issue where if an app that has been updated is trying to use its own folder that it created in another version, such as 4.3, it can no longer use it. Titanium Backup is a good example of this. I didn't test, but I suspect that if you started completely clean, and installed TiB, it would work fine. However, many of us have an existing TiB folder and after updating to KK, it would no longer work.
Finally, one of my biggest issues with porting it (not one experienced by the Sprint guys), was my mobile data. If I shut it off and rebooted, voice calls worked just fine. But if I enabled mobile data, the connection would cut in and out over and over. It would work while connected, but it was very annoying! I will add what I did to fix this shortly.
For now, I hope this info helps everyone! I will add links to more information a bit later.

Included kt747 kernel (5-13-2014) (WiFi fixed, Screen Rotation Fixed)
Added APN's (Should now auto-populate regardless of your carrier. AKA, no more manual setup!)
Added more language options
Updated system apps
corrected build.prop values
Added busybox to updater-script
Replaced Sprint Shutdown animation with T-Mobiles (oops forgot the sounds! Still Sprint Sounds with Tmobile anim)
Fixed Video Playback bug (horribly choppy playback on hi-res vids)
v2.1 - Final - (5.16.2014)
Fixed APN issues from previous release - Thanks to @lj27416 for posting the apns-conf.xml
Fixed Maps force closing
Fixed reboot binary - Thanks to @CNexus
Updated system apps (including todays Google Play Store update with Paypal support)
Tips
GPS - If your GPS is having trouble finding your correct location, download GPS Test by Chartcross from the Play Store. Run and give it a few moments to find satellites and it should narrow to within several feet of your location. Now try your apps that require your location again (maps, weather, etc)
Metro PCS - (T999N users) - You will not have mobile data after flashing this rom. You will need to manually enter your apn. This should no longer be necessary, but I will leave this information up in case it is helpful. Your correct apn is as follows:
(any line not listed should be left blank or default)
Name: MetroPCS
APN: fast.metropcs.com
MMSC: http://metropcs.mmsvno.com/mms/wapenc
MCC: 310
MNC: 260
APN Type: default,mms,supl
Use the S5 Launcher! - Edit your build.prop. Change all d2tmo/d2spr/d2att values to kltetmo/klteatt/kltespr/kltevzw depending on which you have of course. Hint, try each one to see which mobile data icon you like. Use kltespr if you want the fixed wifi icon though. Thanks to @allenjthomsen and @serio22 for bringing this to our attention!

Questions/reports/etc about any of the mods there should be posted there as well. Thanks!

I don't see any reason why not. If you have any issues you should be able to just restore your android backup or reflash your previous rom or firmware.
If you do give it a try please report back to let us know for sure.

Splendid job as always Doc!
i install and everything works(including the screen rotation) but my data isn't working on Metro pcs, any idea how i could fix this
Edit: Fixed it had to manually put in the APN settings everything working now =]
You'll probably need to manually enter your apn. I'm not sure what it should be but a quick Google search should net you some good results.
Thank you for trying it out on your T999N btw! This means it should also work just fine on the T999L.
When you say screen rotation works, when you go landscape its not upside down?

You'll probably need to manually enter your apn. I'm not sure what it should be but a quick Google search should net you some good results.
Thank you for trying it out on your T999N btw! This means it should also work just fine on the T999L.
When you say screen rotation works, when you go landscape its not upside down?

Double checked the rotation it is upside down >.<, was so excited i didn't even notice. I attached screenies of the MetroPCS Apn settings if anyone needs them
So it appears in your screenshots that the apn did fix mobile data, right?
I'm pretty sure the screen rotation issue is in the kernel somewhere. I'm looking into it and waiting to hear back from someone else who might have an idea on what to look for.

Try downloading and installing GPS Test by Chartcross. Run it and give it a few moments to find satellites and your location. It should narrow it down to several feet. Now try your maps and weather.

[Q] Official CM11 radio issues, 4g to 3g switching or loss

I am having issues with 4g and 3g switching on the device. Some times there will be no signal at all. 80% of the time doing an Airplane mode cycle will fix it. however this is dozens of times a day. This has been an issue since the M8 release. Can anyone send clear directions to a fix please.
System:
LS970
Cm version 11-20140916-SNAPSHOT-M10-ls970
Kernal 3.4.0-CM+
Maybe this post will help. I believe it's in the forum of the ROM you are using. In the future, try reading here for issues.

Not sure if you are being intentionally funny or not, but that link does not go to any thread....
If it was an accident, I think this would be the correct one, right?

I am not sure what post you were directing that at though.
EDIT: see below for intended post.
Sorry my paste didn't work as expected. here it is....

Tried that
i couldnt get the APN settings to open up. Through the shortcut maker or terminal. I tried this before posting a new thread. i would have responded to the ongoing thread but XDA rules wont let me post to that one. Had to post here.

No problem, everyone starts somewhere.
Try the app "APN Change" from the play store.
better but . . .
So I tried the recommended settings change. Used the Change APN app. LTE is more reliable however when it switches from lte to 3g it will hang for some time or have no connection at all until i cycle airplane mode.

What radio do you have? (What was the last version of stock you were on?)
Can you get a logcat and radio logcat (logcat -b radio) of the issue happening?
I am using ZVC. The last stock rom i was on was Stocktimus CE 1.5
I dont know how to pull a logcat. Although i have quite a bit of experience flashing and recovering a device from soft brick, I am not much help with troubleshooting. I know just enough to be dangerous.
Hi it was my post that was linked to about adding APNs. I have found that after I flashed stock rooted zvc, updated prl and profile, and restored my CM11 backup, data works fine without requiring a manual APN edit.
However, currently I am running the unofficial GEE-based CM build. I had problems with NFC and battery life last time I tried the official builds (late September), and I do not know the cause or status of those issues. Maybe Shelnutt can weigh in

i just came from using stocktimus again because i tired of the radio nfc and battery issues as well. dwielunski, what stock rom do you use?
In CM and some others, if you go to settings>mobile networks, there is a built-in shortcut to the APN settings
But honestly, this issue is the most frustrating thing among the AOSP roms, at least for me. It's the one thing that makes me keep flashing back to stock-based ROM's every time I try CM or PA or anything. Why isn't there a clear-cut solution to this when it's such a common problem and we've known about it for so long?

Stock rooted zvc as I said. At one point I was using that with a bunch of xposed mods but pretty happy with cm these days. Probably will stay on this until L drops and we get a port. I haven't had any data issues but not sure about NFC

Sprint Galaxy S4 Mini Custom Rom Problem
I am having issues with s0be's custom rom build for the galaxy s4 mini (model SPH-L520) in which if using the stock messaging or Hangouts app, mms group messages come in the separate sms threads for each contact. I tried using 8sms and the app worked, but any message that I got in the group text from my friend with a Windows Phone come in without any text in the message. This is really aggravating and I am wondering if anyone has experienced a problem like this and may know how to fix it. Thanks in advance.
How do I install this rom?
Hi,
I originally rooted with Kingo with my s4 mini, how do I exactly install this rom so I don't brick my phone? Also, would my data be erased if I flash this rom?
SPH-L520
After Flashing ([SPH-L520][ROM][UNOfficial][4.4.2] CyanogenMod 11.0 for Sprint S4 Mini ) i have no signal at gsm even 3g,2g,4g,LTE.plz advise me to do correct settings.i m new user hope my seniors will help me to fix signal issues.
Regards
I am having a hard time getting the CWM-based recovery installed on my SPH-L520 with 4.4.2.
I've tried using Odin with the recovery.tar.md5 file as well as Heimdall with the .img, but don't seem to be having any luck.
The recovery always reverts back to stock.
Anyone have detailed install instructions or tips?
Root Problems
I just flashed cm-11-20140319-UNOFFICIAL-serranoltespr.zip (cm-11-20140319-UNOFFICIAL-serranoltespr.zip)
but i can't tell if my phone is rooted. When i type 'su' into terminal, I don't get an error, but I don't get a root terminal either.
SPH-L520 Unofficial Rom
Hey, I have a did this root method, but I'm having a couple problems.
1) Call volume does not adjust.
2) If there is a + in front of the number, the call will not go through.
Has anyone had any luck fixing these issues?
Any fixes
Is anyone even reading these? We cannot post to the main message board until we have 10 posts, and it seems like no one is addressing these posts from junior members.
---------- Post added at 01:47 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:29 PM ----------
I used this method: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Install_CM_for_serranoltexx
And the files from the first post on this thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2669991)
I cannot flash stock recovery and when I attempt to restore my backup or restore phone to stock settings, the phone will not connect to sprint network at all.
Please advise.
Has anyone gotten themes to work? I install the theme apks nicely, however they don't show up in the theme window in settings. Also has anyone gotten expanded desktop to work from the settings menu? It only seems to work if I bring up the power menu and change it from there.
EDIT: Apparently cm10 themes work but cm11 themes don't. Does anyone know why?
apn config problems
I'm having a similar problem. I'm not using the device on Sprint, but a Sprint MVNO called Ting.
I've tried editing the apn xml file a number of time, flashing various apn files and so forth. Nothing seems to take, despite the settings being relatively simple.
Is this hard-coded somewhere? Data is working fine, cell is working fine, but MMS is a no go.
[SPH-L520][ROM][UNOfficial][5.1.1] CyanogenMod 12.1 for Sprint S4 Mini [8/15]
s0be,
I have a hunch as to why your mobile data cuts out on cm-12/12.1.
I actually found your cm-11 build for this device very helpful in bringing up the US Cellular version of the S4 Mini.
Since then, I have (with lots of help from others) be able to get cm-12.1 working with mobile.
The problem I had is fixed if you use this revert: 98016 on cyanogenmod review (sorry, I am not allowed to post any urls).
Revert "Revert "Telephony: DcTracker: Fix CDMA APN Data issues.""
This reverts commit 76e8804a224dbb13aeea0ad4df25ef8ac34fdca7.
There was logic removed in the DcTracker.java that was helping the serrano get mobile data going and reverting it gets you going again.
An alternative to get mobile working if you don't revert is to copy the LTE apn and make the copyied one's BEARER = unspecified.
I hope this helps.
Does anyone have issues with phone calls on the SPH-L520 where the caller complains about an echo (hearing their own voice)?
I have found that on another US variant of the serrano (SCH-R890), that if I use the STOCK libaudcal.so (to fix the voice volume adjustments like s0be did for the SPH-L520) that the echo issue for the caller shows up.
BTW, this is not an issue when on STOCK, so it is not my case or a plugged mic hole.
If I revert back to the serrano-common TM libaudcal.so, the echo is fixed but the voice volume can not be adjusted.
These observations are on cm-11.
For cm-12.1 and cm-13.0, I can only fix the voice volume adjustments but nothing seems to fix the annoying echo for callers.
is this completly stable now with all features working??
