Hi all, ive just rooted my xperia play and removed quite alot of bloatware after reading lots of how to guides from all you guys i used doomlords 1click zergrush method without a problem thanks ;-) so far so good ...except i cant get rid of the star battalion icon after uninstalling and even deleting the back up, same goes for live ware manager anyone know any tricks how to get rid of them properly? Everything else i removed went ok, id also like to get rid of latitude and places but without harming google maps is this possible?
Any help much appreciated
Cheers
I used the free titanium backup to remove my bloatware.

Well latitude is stuck with maps, but try rebooting and installing sd maid to get rid of the remaining data created my the apps!
Sent from my R800x using Tapatalk
Cheers ill try that. I just installed root uninstaller which took care of live ware manager and star battalion which for some reason titanium back up was struggling with removing... Just places and lattitude to get shot of now
What about if i completely removed my preinstalled google maps hopefully along with places and latitude and then reinstalling the market version? Anyone tryed this
Or has anyone removed google maps and if so does it remove places and latitude?
Wow its great having the phone with just what i want on it, it seems alot faster too

Nah, market version of maps doesn't change :-\

Removing google maps does remove places and latitude, because they're all the same app. It's all or none, but if you use LauncherPro you can hide places and latitude from the drawer
By the way, this is the wrong thread to be posting questions. Just a reminder

I did a search. Well a few searches on the des app and all I get is Roms and how to root in the search list.. only one I found was removing the Sprint NFL.. was looking to see what all apps I can remove safely without messing up the phone. Like peep. Google search and voice, amazon mp3, quickoffice..etc. also can't find apps2sd on market.

You can get rid of sprint's stuff with no problems but google's apps you may want to try one by one just in case. Make sure you leave google talk though, removing that will break your market.
I'm going to take all Sprint apps off and try searching more till I find out.. yeah def want the market lol.. thanks for the reply.

You should be able to remove alot of that stuff with titanium backup, I would just back up any app you remove first in case anything goes batty.

So I'll admit, I didn't search for this topic, but I'm in a real time pinch, and I hope someone can answer this by the time I come back, sorry.
My question is this, I love titanium backup pro and how I can flash any rom, and make it feel like home right away, my issue is this, is there a way to have the apps recognized and be able to be updated? I see in the market that it only understands that I have a handful of the apps I actually have installed, so there's no way for me to receive the updates on anything else.
If I'm missing something, please enlighten me. And thanks ahead of time for a soultion!

Have you tried clearing out Market cache?
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
I can suggest two things:
- try using the Market Doctor feature in Titanium
- try installing a completely new app from the Market
I've noticed that doing the above will usually populate the "My apps" list in the Market after a Titanium restore.
whatever apps you have download through market, and backed up with TB pro and after restoring with TB Pro click menu and market doctor it will put missing links to market and should have all apps back in market as well ones that need update
Thanks everyone! TBP was one of my newest apps, so yeah, it didn't make all of the market connections, so I went through and redownloaded all my apps from the market, then did a new backup, so hopefully that (and the market doctor) will do it!
Thanks again for your help!

Make sure in TB's settings that "remove market link" isn't checked. That'll give you hours of fun as you're finding out now. Also after you run the market doctor - reboot. It may not be necessary per instructions and whatever else but a good 'ole reboot fixes a lot of things.
Two Google apps -- Play Books and Play Movies & TV -- keeping returning from the land of the frozen. I go back into TB Pro and refreeze, and within a couple of days at most they are back. All the other Google apps I've frozen remain so. Is there something else on the list I also need to freeze?
When I disable them in app manager they come back after a reboot as well. I think its tied to the play store or something that keeps activating them.

I checked on Play and on app manager for auto update option and don't see one. Odd that only these two are persistent despite freezing. I have the feeling there's another item on TB that needs freezing as well to fix this.
I got sick of this and since I do not want nor need them, I just deleted them

Ah, the more brutal approach. If that worked, and you have no regrets or issues as a result, that seems my only course of action as well.
Why you bother to freeze them or delete? It's part of former Google Market. Do.'t see benefit from deleting it. Can you share your thoughts?

Basically, I have four pages of icons under apps, and many of them are for services I have no interest in and will never use. I'm not trying to save space...I think there's 11 GB free, but I find the clutter off-putting.
Not sure I understand the part about Google Market. Play is just the same thing renamed, isn't it? Plus new look and feel.
Anyway, just de-cluttering the UI.
Yup it comes back now.. Use menu - > hide applications or you can stick them all in one folder and hide just that folder

Good grief...how did I not know about this. Hiding did the trick.
Disabling/freezing Google Partner Setup prevents Books and Movies from getting re-enabled.

Ah ah...valuable information. Thanks much for this.
I'm going to be rooting mine and my girlfriends phone in the next few days. I wanted to see about removing the Bloatware on the phones once they are rooted. Is there anything special I need to download to be able to remove them? I have most of them disabled but would like to totally get rid if them. I searched all over for an answer but was unable to find one.
Thanks in advance.

Titanium backup. Just download it from the play store and that will do the trick. Search the forum to see which apps are safe to remove tho.

Titanium backup. It allows you to uninstall anything. If you are not sure about a program, you can freeze it, which will not allow the program to run, then if no problems occur it can be uninstalled. if you search, you can find an ongoing list of programs safe to delete
Thank you guys, I ended up getting the pro version and will search for that list of apps you talkrd about and go from there.

you can try getting a stock rom that's been cleaned of bloatware?
Thanks, I didn't know I could do that with tb gonna try it
Sent from my SGH-T999 using Tapatalk 2
You can't do that with TB. Find these bloatware-free ROMs in the android dev forum.
For the past few days i have been receiving fake sms notification in chinesse, see photo below. I have downloaded a few apps to help me detect the spammer (Airpush Detector and Lookout) but none can locate the malware. how can i locate this son of a gun??
Thanks!
Uninstall the last couple of apps you've installed. Seems to me that you installed an app that is offering third party advertising. Its happened to me a couple times before. Usually this advertising info is available if you completely read the app notes in the Play Store.
From what I can see, it looks like an airpush ad. Try downloading airpush detector from the market, it'll scan your phone & identify the offending app.

Airpush was the first app I downloaded but it picked up nothing. I just deleted most of recently downloaded apps.

Try some of the other airpush detecting apps.
Ive tried all airpush detection apps on Google play store with no success. It appears xda is no match for this spyware. Thanks for contributing. Off I go to learn Mandarin and find the source.

Let's make sure all our t's are crossed and our i's are dotted here shall we?
Are you rooted?
Is your device status "Modified" and do you care about that?
What ROM are you running?
Have you poked around in /data to see if there were any suspicious apps in there?
Otherwise, assuming this malware has root access, it may be wiser to just flash your ROM again with either Odin or CWM.
I'm getting the same thing. Havent nailed down what it is yet.
I had the same thing but I am on stock unrooted. What I did is I long pressed on the notofication and it gave me thw option of "app info". I just hit that and ir pulled up that menu. Just clicked on disable notofocations and all isbright with the world once again!
Sent from my SGH-T889 using Tapatalk 2
Can't you long press on the notification and get information on which app placed it in the notification area?
I didn't know we could do that I will try holding the notification and checking app info got once the message appears again, which will be tonight a round 1145pm et. thanks
