ROOT YOUR SAMSUNG EXHIBIT 4G AND EXHIBIT 4G ll - Upgrading, Modifying and Unlocking

This Works on both Exhibit 4g phones.I figure..the more Exhibit phones that get rooted the closer we will get to getting a custom recovery and roms ...here's hoping
ZergRush zip file attached.Install the phone drivers on your pc, in your phone turn usb debugging on, plug your phone into your pc and let the drivers install.Unzip the zergRush file to a new folder on your desktop, open the folder and click on the .bat file and let it run . To check if you rooted...you should see apps called superuser and terminal emulator in your app draw. You can also download root checker from the market to verify...enjoy
This root method was put together by nocturnalmike....THANKS.

says rooted
I used this method, have both superuser and terminal emulator. i am unable to access any more than i was. i am still unable to find or remove any of the preinstalled bloatware. there is no uninstall in settings. and i am only able to find 1 folder for slacker radio that keeps reinstalling.

Download absolute system file manager and then you can take the bloat off your phone. Do not forget to hit the thanks button.

Anyone tried gingerbreak?

uninstall bloat with Titanium (bloat is in read ....be careful)

i need help
When i launch the zerg application i plug in my phone and it says "daemon launched succesfully" waiting for device
and i have it in debugging mode
but everytime i plug it in it says needs the drivers
help!!!

I need help! I rooted yesterday with no problems. Tonight I was into Titanium searching for a way to remove bloat. I pushed a tab by mistake. It said it would remove 45mb and reboot. The phone now starts a reboot with sound, then goes into a cycle of the Samsung name screen (no sound) then to the Android launch screen (no sound). Then it just repeats over and over...I have removed the battery and replaced and tried to reboot, with no success. What did I do???

Is this the Best and Easiest way to Root the Exhibit?

This doesn't work. ADB just produces a lot of errors. ZergRushTempRoot.bat runs for a while then it stops and says "Press any key to continue" but when I press a key it exits and the DOS window goes away. Root Checker says the phone was not rooted. Does anyone know how to fix this? I also tried the program from Unlockroot.com but it doesn't do anything either! It took a long time while it said that it was "downloading" then it said 100% complete at the end but nothing changed.

[Q] trying to get clockworkmod 3.0.0.4 on my epic 4g

I tried putting cockworkmod 3.0.0.4 onto my epic but nothing happened the first time I tried it. I had usb debugging on before so I know its not that.... but now it won't even recognize my phone when I click run in the oneclick root fle.
Should I reset my phone and try it again? If so how do I do that...
Do you have the Samsung drivers installed? If no then download and install them, if yes then redownload and reinstall them.
Is your data cable good? Can you get into mass storage? Why Clockwork 3.0.0.4? Go with 3.0.0.6, it is much more compatible with most ROMs. And make sure you have an EXt4 compatible ROM ready to flash after the file system conversion.
I had a similar issue with mine. If you have the current drivers installed, and a better USB cable, it seems there's not a whole lot else you can do besides cross your fingers. I tried mine on 2 different computers (work and home). My home computer, which CWM has never liked in the past, was the one that did the trick. Had to experiment with different USB slots, and restarting the computer every time it didn't work. Also don't know if it makes a difference or not, but the CWM version I finally got to work was from the links in the youtube how to video for SyndicateROM - Frozen (not the links the syndicate guys provided) . Good luck!
I had to use an old XP machine for my first one-clock root/CWM install. None of my win7 machines would work.
Not sure why, but now the win7 machines work fine. Using the same drivers on all of them.
Again, it's a shot in the dark, but have you tried an XP computer?
Here are a few things you could try:
1) First you need to have the Android SDK installed on your computer. This will allow you to access your phone through adb which is required in order to install any version of CWM. You can download the SDK from here, developer.android.com/sdk/index.html
2) Next you have to set up the environment variables which will allow you to use adb to connect to your phone. This is a very important step and it must be done correctly. Here is a You Tube video which walks you through the process, youtu.be/b1qgKA_eT2g
3) Once you have those two steps completed you can begin to install CWM. Here is another You Tube video for that portion, youtu.be/cFrA__9bURo
Troubleshooting tips:
1) Make sure that you have the correct drivers installed on your machine. If you can connect you phone and access the SD card then you have the proper drivers already installed. If your unable to access the SD card then you may have a problem with the drivers.
2) Make sure that your plugging in the USB cable directly into the back of your computer. DO NOT plug it into any type of USB hub or the front of your machine.
3) If it is not being detected in one of the USB ports, unplug and try another.
**Im unable to post links at the moment so you will have to copy and past the youtube and other links into another browser window to access the web pages**
Good Luck
1. You don't need the SDK to install CWM.
Tips: start here first and these should fix your problem.

Taking a look in the CWM3.zip folder it looks like the program bundles adb within the program. I may have been incorrect in stating that you need to install the SDK onto your machine.
I have been rooting different Android phones for over a year now (I still dont claim to know everything) and the SDK has been installed on my machine ever since then. My previous phone required the SDK in order to root and I just assumed that was still needed for CWM3.
Thanks for the correction Top Nurse.
Any luck getting CWM onto your phone jsoileau2?
Why CWM 3.0.0.4 and not CWM 3.0.0.6?

It was not too clear if you had root already or you was trying to run one click a second time. If you do have root, try dl rom manager from market then let it install cwm for you. Win7 people try using the 32bit drivers.
If you downloaded one click 2.5.5, it has all the files you need to root and install cwm 2.5.1.0. No need to set up sdk stuff, it's all in the zip of one click. Also try reboot computer and phone if adb isn't seeing the phone. Try different usb port on computer if rebooting doesn't help.
Try turning off any antivirus program you might be using.
Don't use Rom Manager, there are many problems with it on the Epic.
I don't know if it makes any difference but I've always went to start, run, cmd, cd to directory where one click is, then run.bat
Sometimes it is necessary to be at a command prompt instead of just clicking on the file. I don't know if this is one of those instances or not.
Rom manger doesn't install the cwm (well on epic it tries to.) But it does download it. Try it.
Then boot into recovery and install zip from /sdcard/clockworkmod/download/mirrorbrain.cynogenmod.com/ and the cwm zip will be there.
Install it.
It worked for me.

[Q] Can you unroot without using a PC?

I'm new and I hope I'm not posting this in the wrong place or re-posting an old question, but I have been searching on this and other sites for days and haven't been able to find anything pertaining to my question, so sorry in advance If I'm not posting this correctly.
I have a rooted epic touch with rogue boot loader installed and UnNamed rom installed. I really liked the way it was running until I had some kind of malfunction happened and now the battery charge light won't shut off and the battery drains within a couple hours of standby time. the phone is only a couple months old and would like to take it to the sprint store as I'm assuming this is an obvious hardware issue. My problem is that my pc doesn't recognize my phone anymore so I can't flash back to stock and get rid of root, voiding my warranty. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling kies and stand alone drivers multiple times with no avail. I've tried with the battery and sd card removed and have also tried on multiple pc's (2 win7 and and xp machine). every time it says the drivers weren't installed successfully and to replace the device being connected.
My question: Is there a way to revert to stock off of the internal memory of the phone? I know there are zip roms you can flash from the boot loader but I was wondering if there was a way to flash a rom from zip and install the original boot loader as well as get rid of root? Any help I can get would be extremely appreciated and again I apologize if I am wasting anyone's time by asking in the wrong place or re-asking a question.
Ok so I downloaded the Calkin's_Stock_Rooted_EK02_ROM_v1.0 and got it on my sd card via dropbox. Flashed and now have a stock rom on it which I think is a step in the right direction.
The only thing is now I have clockwork boot loader and still rooted. and still not recognizing on pc. anyone know of an unrooted zip with original boot loader?
I couldn't get my PC to recognize either of my 2 E4GT's, each due to a different reason, both issues were resolved by going through each step in sfhub's debugging checklist:

This post is for the FAQ section:
Why is the install stuck waiting for device to be connected?
Your phone isn't being recognized by your PC as an Android device.
When the drivers are installed and the phone is properly recognized, you should see the following in start->run->devmgmt.msc
Code:
Android Phone
SAMSUNG Android ADB Interface
Modem
SAMSUNG Mobile USB Modem
Until you get the SAMSUNG Android ADB Interface to show up, neither ADB nor this script will work.
Here is a debugging checklist:
1) dial ##UPST# (##8778#) in the dialer and verify AP (or ALL) is checked (if CP is checked, phone won't be recognized as an Android device)
2) restart the ADB server (choose Option G to stop the server, it'll get started automatically by the script)
3) verify USB Debugging is ENABLED
4) verify USB drivers are installed (Win7-64bit see below)
5) try a different usb cable
If you are in Win7-64bit try changing the default install location for the drivers:
If you see an error like this:
Try running the CMD prompt (or e4gtauto-sfx.exe) as Administrator. Right-click on the CMD icon (or e4gtauto-sfx.exe) and select "Run As", then select Administrator.
If that doesn't work, try disabling windows firewall.
Click to collapse
I went down that list and everything seemed to be in order but still no recognition by pc. I kept uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers and switching usb ports and it finally installed the drivers successfully long enough for odin to recognize it and to flash back to stock. As soon as it was done the machine stopped recognizing it again. Lucky break I guess. So I can now return it to sprint and deal with the hardware issue.
I would still like to find a zip file like the tar that I flashed that installs stock recovery and non rooted ek02 rom and kernel from cwm, if that's even possible.
Thanks Godswrath, for helping me out.
You could use wifi explorer to get files on to sd card and mobile Odin to flash the tar file back to stock....

They make a mobile Odin? That would have saved my like 4 hours....

[ROOT] IO Root

If you take the ZVE update, IORoot no longer works. You must use Stump Root method
According to @autoprime, you must use the Stump Root method in order to root the ZVE update
http://forum.xda-developers.com/sprint-g2/general/ls980-zve-ota-zip-update-zvc-zve-t2912488
Stump root can be found here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/orig-development/root-stump-root-lg-g3-sprint-verizon-t2850906
It has been confirmed by many that the IO root now works on the LS980 though it is not listed in the main IO root thread. Below is a link with all the specific instructions for how to use this root tool.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2448887
Basic Instructions for rooting on firmware ZVA
1. Ensure you have the proper USB drivers installed, and your phone is in the proper mode (For Verizon, use Ethernet mode on the PC settings menu).
NOTE: If you do not have the USB drivers installed, you can get them from here: http://www.lg.com/us/support-mobile/lg-LGD801BK under MANUALS & DOWNLOAD -> Software Update -> USB Drivers (Yes the Tmobile drivers work since the Sprint page doesn't post USB drivers)
2. Enable Developer Mode (Press "Build Number" 7 times) on your phone and enable USB Debugging
3. Extract ioroot zip file somewhere on your PC
4. Plug your phone into your PC. Ensure that the USB connection is set to "Charge Only".
5. On PC, open up command prompt and type adb devices command and accept the ADB RSA command on the phone. It should say "LG-LS980-XXXXXXXXXXX device" If you saw the following it confirms that the device is detected in ADB.
6. Put your phone in Airplane mode.
7. Run root.bat
8. The script will ask you that the USB Connection Mode needs to be toggled. Toggle USB mode from Charge Only to MTP and then back to Charge Only.
9. You will then be asked if you would like to have a superuser package installed, which you can accept or decline
10. Download Root Checker from Play Store: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.joeykrim.rootcheck to verify successful root.
Basic Instructions for rooting on firmware ZVC with IO Root v25

I'm worried that Sprint will issue an update soon, as carriers often do quickly after the launch of a new product, and we won't be able to get it with a rooted phone. Not sure whether to root or not, and if so how long to wait.

You can always unroot if the an update won't take. The only time this has been an issue for me is when I'm running something other than the stock ROM. The downside about OTA's is they break root most of the time, so you'll have to root your device again.
I used this method to root. The only problem I had was where it said to disable USB debugging and reconnect the phone. After I did that it wouldn't connect and complete the superuser install. I tried all the USB connections types; charge only, mtp, & ptp, but the adb interface wouldn't show up in device manager. I finally just re-enabled USB debugging and the install process continued without any problem. Everything seems OK, superuser is installed, I was able to install TWRP and I'm doing a Titanium backup right now.
Does anyone think there will be a mod released later on to "untrip" the built in root checker? I'm holding off on rooting based only on that.

I'll give you an explanation why it didn't work for you initially and how your accidental discovery was what fixed it.
The instructions in the root.bat file said to do after it pushed the initial files into the phone was
1. Unplug the phone off USB from PC
2. Disable USB debugging option
3. Re-enable USB debugging option
4. Connect phone to USB from PC.
What you did initially was steps 1, 2 and 4 and skipped 3 and expected the root.bat script to continue. Obviously the root.bat file can't detect the phone once you reconnected it to USB because you don't have USB debugging on which is needed for detection. What you did eventually was the smart thing and re-enable the USB debugging that finished the install process.
This is the excerpt from the root.bat file that clearly explains to disable USB debugging and immediately re-enable USB debugging after the root.bat file pushes the initial root files.
echo *******************************************************
echo Now, please unplug usb, go to developer options and
echo disable USB debugging and re-enable it.
echo Once you've done that, re-plug your usb...
echo *******************************************************
This root works 100%. I compared the iorootv10 and iorootv11 root.bat files and it clearly did not have a Sprint option for the root.bat file to detect in iorootv10. Also this was released by a recognized developer/contributer shelnutt2. I hope thecubed edits his XDA thread to upload iorootv11 so that we can reference that XDA thread instead.

Did you ensure you have enabled USB debugging and installed the USB drivers? Also if you have adb, try opening a command prompt in the same folder as adb and type "adb devices". You should see a response of your device listed and "device". If you see a response of a device listed and "offline" that means your phone is not communicating with your PC which is why the root.bat file is giving you an error.
Check out this tutorial video for the ioroot and it should make it more clear. Keep in mind that the video was made when iorootv10 was released but the steps to do the root are the same.

I am not sure. That would be very handy in case Sprint wants to push out an OTA. We know that eventually Sprint is going to get an OTA in early 2014 to enable triband LTE or Sprint Spark.

[Q] One click root issues.

Hi there, I've recently tried rooting my lgg3 but im running into a few problems.
Just to clarify:
I've installed the drivers
Enabled USB de-bugging
Used task manager to end abd.
Tried MTP and PTP
But when ever I run the Oneclick root, it failes to start abd, then fails daemon, and then 'successfully' starts demon only to fail it again. It does this about 3 times before re-booting the phone into download mode.
From there, it asks me to wait for SuperSU to install, which it never does.
I'm really stuck here and could use any help. I've also tried using the GUI and .bat rooting tools, the .bat gets further into it than the actual, updated GUI, rebooting the phone, whereas the gui fails at the start as it cant start abd nor daemon.
For starters, please update with:
Your variant (model number)
Current Android software version
Which one-click root tool you are trying to use
The output from 'adb devices' entered into ADB

Is adb bugs on model SMJ200G (j2) common?

I investigated the ADB program. At How to Install ADB on Windows, macOS, and Linux, I am stuck at step 7 of the instructions for windows. I do not receive any kind of pop up in my SMJ200G phone (j2).
This step:
7. On your phone’s screen, you should see a prompt to allow or deny USB Debugging access. Naturally, you will want to grant USB Debugging access when prompted (and tap the always allow check box if you never want to see that prompt again).
