Hi the advanced ace hack kit is the way to root. Its very simple as long as you follow the instructions in the effin manuel. You can then download a custom rom. RCmix3d runny v3.3 is probably the best one but are are a few others you can choose from. Good luck, here is the link for you.

after you do what the ace hack is it easy to change roms when/if you get bored of them ?

Yes it's very easy. You will soon become a flashoholic. download a rom onto your sd card then all you do is take out your battery, put the battery back in, hold down lower volume and then hold the power on button. This will take you into hboot mode, scroll down to recovery, it will then flash pd98img image for a second, go into rocovery mode and then select install zip from sd card then select choose zip from sdcard and it will then flash your rom. Once it has finished you can then reboot. After you have installed your rom make sure you download rom manager from the market and do a back up of your system. that is basically how you flash a rom, its a good idea to download a superwipe to your sd card so when you flash a different rom you wipe it clean. Hope this helps.

thanks alot yeah that helps alot see this superwipe does it take the numbers off my mobile it would take ages to put them back in now what a mean ?

No it doesn't as long as you have saved them to your sim card. If you flash a HTC sense rom and you install a different HTC sense rom, say by someone else, because you have already backed up the previous rom, after you download the next and when you are in recovery mode if you go to back up & restore, advanced, select the date and then select restore data, it will restore all your data, logins, passwords, apps on your home screens e.g so that you do not need to log in again. Its brilliant. hope it all goes well.

thanks alot ill be doing that the mora thanks alot legend

Desire root question ?

Hi,
soon, I will get my ordered HTC Desire from Amazon Germany. Hope it's not a Desire with Hboot Version > 0.92. Amazon descriped it as an Android 2.1 version. Is it possible that Android 2.1 comes with a non rootable bootloader > 0.93, worst case version 1.06 ?
For example. Hope I will get a Desire with a 0.92 Hboot and root it successfully, what will happen when the phone is rebooting. Is it updating automatically to Android 2.2 after it get connected and maybe lost the root access. Have read about this in some boards.
I think I have to flash a custom rom after rooting the device before I go online? Maybe these questions are stupid but I need to know the right steps to get the full potential out of my new phone.
Which custom rom is preferable? LeeDrOiD V3.0.2, CyanogenMod-7 ..?
Thank you in advance

I got a Desire with HBOOT 0.93, I can assure you it is completely rootable, I rooted with unrEVOked and the 1st ROM I tried was StarBurst, very awesome ROM.
I assume you want a gingerbread ROM, thus your asking for a deciding factor between CyanogenMod7 Or LeeDrOid 3.0.2, my advice is this if you like Sense UI, LeeDrOid if you don’t CyanogenMod7.
Check out Desire Android Development and check out the other options available.
Hope This Helps
1.06? Where did that come from? As far as I'm aware at least the bootloader only goes up to 0.93.1 which is prob rootable and S-Offable. If you do have a stupid bootloader, just use an RUU then root but I doubt you will have to worry about it. You will be fine. All you need to do is you can update from Eclair to Froyo and then root, it does not matter at all. Also, when I got my phone with Eclair, it came with bootloader 0.80.
You are worrying for no reason. All you need is to just download Unrevoked, the lastest one (if that doesn't work get the previous version). Don't forget the drivers either if your on Windows
1.06 bootloaders are only on CDMA Desires, not GSM. So far, all GSM Desires are rootable.
Is there a way to root with a 1.06 bootloader?
Sent from my PB99400 using XDA App
Not yet. Follow Unrevoked's site, they'll put up an update if possible.

That's my fear that I could get a Desire Phone from the stock that has this 1.06 bootloader. I read about it in some other forums that Desires are delivered with this newer bootloader, maybe htc did that to prevent (for a while) such rooting and flashing custom roms?
My Desire is on way now, hope I will get a rootable device tomorrow. As far as I know, I need to do the following
1. Unrevoke the Desire with linux or windows. I use linux.
2. Load a custom rom
How can I backup the entire image that comes out of the box before I start to root the desire ?

You don't need to worry to receive CMDA Desire with 1.06 unless you are from the USA If you are from Europe you should deffinitely be ok
And you don't need to backup too, you can later flash official RUUs, the original Desire firmware...you can however use the nandroid backup once you root your phone, to backup your current rom if you deceide to test a new one
I'm relieved to hear that. I've only one question about the roms. I want to flash a fast and stable rom that don't need app2sd to move application to the sd card. I think it's integrated in rom version > 2.1 (froyo) ?

IMO, you shouldn't even be thinking about rooting until you know what you're doing. Sounds like you don't know a lot about Android at present so read a lot and ONLY ASK QUESTIONS IF YOU CAN'T FIND AN ANSWER. Chances are everything you will need to ask has already been answered
Just enjoy the phone first and worry about the rest later

I have the same HBoot and am rooted
You've not got full root or else it would be S-Off. Have you flashed a recovery? Easiest way to get a nandroid back up. Either AmonRa 2.0.1 or CWM 2.5.1.8 (I think, other earlier version don't work with your HBoot, and stay away from 3.0.0.5 for now). Then you need to alpharev to get S-Off. Troll the forum you can find all this info, but you do have to go cautiously with this HBoot, only specific methods work imo.
AmonRa 2.0.1 | PVT4 40000 S-Off Alpharev 1.8| HBoot 0.93.1000 | Radio 5.17.05.08 | LeeDroid 3.0.2 (A2SD) | HTC Desire A8181 | UOT Kitchen Mods
Hi ghalalb,
now, I successful restored the nandroid backup with the installed clockwork mod 2.5.0.7. Vol - and Powerbutton, switch to Recovery, then clockwork mod came up .. restore, reboot, ok.
The Desire is alive. Is it real rooted (or not ) ? Thats the question ? The supervisor icon is available. First, I saved the content from the original sd card with (clockwork mod an backups), then partitioned the card with gparted to 2,2 GB fat32, 1,5 ext4 and restored the content back to the fat32 partition.
What now ? Is it not possible to flash a custom rom like clock hd-v10 with the installed clockwork mod ? Do I need to change the clockwork mod with AmonRa 2.0.1 ? The nandroid backups are not compatible with the AmonRa tool !
If something goes wrong, a restore of the old clockwork mod backups is not possible. I don't know what I have to do now. I don't want to make a mistake that is not reversible.
Regards
Frank
Hi Frank
You seem to be confusing your self as you don’t really know much about what your getting your self into. If you root your device with unrEVOked it should by default install clockwork recovery, once this is installed you don’t need Amon RA as a recovery as clockwork does the same thing and it is merely a matter of preference. Clockwork recovery backups cant be restored with Amon RA and vice versa. I am using clockwork recovery and I flash a new ROM every 3 to 4 days just to try different things and to see which ROM does what I need it to do. I usually end up back on ReflexTSense as I feel this ROM suits my user needs.
You seem to be getting used to using recovery and flashing ROM’s, you can use clockwork to flash any ROM. You have partitioned your card correctly and for apps to SD so now all you need to do is flash a ROM.
I recommend you try AuraxTSense as a first ROM, its very stable and blazing fast.
After you download the ROM put it in the root of your SD, the root of you SD means, not in a folder just in the SD when you double click on the removeable disc/SD in my computer (don’t know what its called in linux) that is the root of the SD. Once that is does, reboot your device into recovery, make a nandroid backup of your current working ROM.
Then follow the steps
• Go to wipe data/factory reset – select using trackball and let it do its thing
• Go to install zip from sdcard – select using trackball
• Go to toggle signature verification – select using trackball – NOTE: on your screen it should say “Signature Check: Disabled – If its says enabled make sure it says Disabled
• Go to choose zip from sdcard – select using trackball
• Go to AuraxTSense – select using trackball
Now its going to install the ROM and once its done its going to bring you back to a screen that says “reboot system now” - select using trackball. Don’t worry about installing the latest radio as your phone came with it installed.
Your phone should reboot and the ROM will now install and this take 5 to 12 mins before its complete if not just be patient, you know it has been a success when you get the white hTC screen with the with the green hTC logo followed by a white hTC screen with green dots that says “hTC quietly brilliant” in black it will sit on that screen for a while and the screen will go dull. When it is done the screen with go bright and boot into Android.
I hope this helps you to get your 1st ROM installed and running, I’ll check back every now and again and post your progress as I am committing my self to help you through this.
i am also going to buy a Desire, i would like to root it. so any hboot or android version should i be aware of? what should i look out for?
i am new in android so pardon my noob question.

When you succesfully use REVOLUTIONARY to S-Off your phone, it will install clockworck mod recovery. When you have done that, you can then turn off your phone and enter Recovery mode by holdingg Vol - while pressing power on, then from there you can make a back-up of your phones ROM in its current state.
I was new to this too, it is quite daunting but after you've experienced your new ROM and have an idea of what you are doing you'll be very pleased with the improvements and new features you can get. Im using supernova Xtreme with Data2SD and its running smooth as silk with zero issues what so ever. I'd recommend you have a look at Revolutionary on the website(just google android revolutionary) and see there simple guide on rooting. Its a absolute breeze to use there software, had mine S-Off'ed in about 2 minutes.
thanks for your advice!
if i have any questions left, i will post again..
greetz Tom
But restoring a nandroid won't take your warranty back, because your phone will be rooted still.
Take a look in an Austrian Android forum if your RUU is not in XDA.

that's what i was thinking about too...
i have used revolutionary now, so i could make a recovery BUT my desire is still not rooted i have only another recovery software (?)
so now i don't know: does my warranty still exist or not?
Mmmm I don't know the revolurionary method, but I think that if you have a custom recovery, you have to be root.
Evenwhen if you are not root, if you changed something from the original Software, probably you don't have any warranty now.
But it would be very strange that there's no RUU for you. If that is the case, if sometime you need your warranty, you can try to push an Official HTC RUU (the debranded one) and probably you'll have no problems. The technical assistence doesn't always look very deeply if you have done something to the software.
ok, thanks for your statement
Hi, i have just flashed a custom rom onto my HTC desire, but looks like the installation has not gone through fine, the phone tries to boot up but shows the same boot screen over and over with a screeching noice. I have flashed my phone with the following ROM:
LeeDrOiD_HD_V3.3.3_GB-Port-R5-A2SD. I now want to go back to my native ROM and am concerned if my phone is bricked. Can you please guide me through this.
Many thanks,

sure it doesn't work?
i have flashed the same rom as you.. the screeching noise could be the standard leedroid startup sound.. at first boot, it takes some minutes did you try just waiting about 15-20 minutes without doing anything? maybe it would boot correctly...
if not, i hope you've done a nandroid backup before flashing?
you should be able to flash the backup in recovery-mode..

Return to stock (Noob Guide) !!!!

Hi !! I just got a DHD(unbranded) with Cyanogen Mod-7 - Nightly, Andriod 2.3.5:
Baseband ver. 12.54.60.25U_26.09.04.11_M2

I wanna return it to stock (gingerbread) with HTC Sense 3.0 (or whatever it is) & I have no clue whatsoever. Plz all gurus & Pros. of this forum help me from step by step guide to return this fone to stock gingerbread (2.3.5) WITH HTC SENCE.
I read a lotta guides but sorry I couldnt get the whole process..
BTW.. i did check & my DHD is rooted & S-off but thats as far as i cud go in the process ... plz plz plzzz.. help me ..
Hello,
To return to stock all you have to do is follow this guide. Tested and it works. Make sure you read the effing manual. It'll download a old RUU but you can then update to the latest android/sense version.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1259821
Thanks 4 ur reply bro. but when I opened the guide I read this line:
Please do NOT run the hack step if you are already S-OFF and are running a custom ROM. It's pointless, and while it won't brick you, you can get jammed up a bit. This is for stock devices only.
Now i am running a custom rom & i have S-OFF.. So can u tell me what to do now?

Ok, so if I follow that above mentioned link I'll get my DHD back to stock with 2.3.5 & SENSE 3.0?
Basically I want my DHD to start getting updates from HTC Official website & all that stuff..
It'll be like the first time you bought it. It won't be 2.3.5, it'll be an older version but you can update to 2.3.5 & SENSE 3.0 OTA.
help!
Help! I use the ace toolkit but it hang at the white boot screen. Now i try to go in recovery but in the end it cannot go in.
Please see the attachment photo~!
I read the details but couldn't get the whole process. Its too confusing 4 a noob like me
2ndly, I couldn't find the Effin maunal ..
Can some1 plz help me with a lil. more easy instructions. That'll b great.
Hi, Can I suggest that you flash a rooted version of Stock. You will not notice any difference in use, but you will be able to flash other cool roms in the future when you are more confident. HTC rarely release updates and when they do someone will root that too. Below is a link to the latest rooted stock.
Download the Full Version to your SD card.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1382235&highlight=stock+rooted
Download and Install EXT4 touch.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1377759
Reboot into recovery.
In EXT4 select "backup/restore"/"Backup" and create a backup of your existing rom (IMPORTANT)
Back into EXT4 Main Menu and select "Wipe/Format"/"Wipe data/factory reset" and "Format all partitions (excluding SD card)"
Back to main EXT4 menu.
Select "Install from sdcard"/"choose zip from sdcard" select the Stock rooted rom you downloaded and install.
Back to main EXT4 menu
Select "Wipe/format"/"wipe cashe+dalvik".
Back to main EXT4 menu select "Reboot now" and you are done.
Enjoy your Stock rom.
Hey thanks a lot bro. Really appreciate ur help .. i'll try this but I wanna know a few things 1st :
1. will I b able to install to 2.3.5 & get OTA updates 4m HTC website after this?
2. will it have HTC Sense 3.0 or sumthin?
3. What abt. ICS? Will I b able to update tht too? Cuz Htc said they'll release ICS update for DHD later this yr. ?
Thanks.
The download I linked to (download on main page is down, check the mirrors later in the post) is the latest release from HTC 2.3.5 sense 3.0 (look at black screenshot on download page) When you install it your phone will boot as if it is a new phone.
You can use the HTC hub for downloading wallpapers/ringtones/widgets and the lost phone/ring it features. The only thing it will not do is update the software version.
There will not be another update now until they release ICS (who knows when!). When ICS is released someone will root it and you can install that in the same way. Although the developers here will make it smoother and faster, but if you want stock ICS I'm sure it will be here too, rooted.
I recommend this Stock based rom too. It has sense 3.5 and Beats Audio "which rocks" and HTC will not port that to DHD. Download the s=stock version. The HTC features are the same as above.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1364835
As long as you carry out what I told you in my last post you can flash and try as many roms as you wish. (you do not need to back them all up "unless you wish" before you try another). As long as you have one backup to fall back on.
But make sure you do the wipe/format stuff between each flash.
I can see you really want to return to stock, but why not take the opportunity to try out your rooted devise.
note: use "titanium backup" (free from the market for rooted devices) to backup/restore you apps.
One word of caution flashing roms can become addictive.

So now that U know my objective, any further help wud b hugely welcomed

Still not sure why you want to go back to stock unless for warranty issues. Custom roms have Beats audio better battery life are faster.
Anyway judging by your noob status your only way of getting back to stock is to use AAHK as in the first reply. Download it. The download contains a MANUAL read it, every word TWICE.
I got ur point bro. & u've been a gr8 help so im gonna try this SmartDriod T3.1 Rom. Is it better than its Stock Ver.? It also says, "Suggested Radio for this rom
26.14.04.28_M". What is this abt.? & How do i get it? & will it be in English cuz the screenshots r not in english lang.
Once again thanks a lot 4 ur help
Use S=stock 3.1 if you want a complete Stock look. T version has HTC hub and other bits removed to speed it up. I use the T version.
Yes it's in English. You choose language on first boot.
Radio fiddles with signal strength/battery life etc. But forget about this for now. It is not crucial and you may already have it in your rom. Look in your DHD "about phone" and check the numbers. I'll provide info on radio and matching ril, but just for you to read. DO NOT FLASH RADIO OR RIL until you are a bit more sure of yourself. DO NOT flash radio or ril if it is not recommended for DHD.

@ghostofcain .. Thanks 4 the screenshot. Yea there r noobs & then its me .. real funny.
@FurryCup.. I'm going 2 do T3.1 & gonna follow ur instructions on 1st page.
1 thing is, I have ClockwordRecovery & backedup my current ROM already, so do i need to install Titanum & create backup again?
Well done backing your rom up. You don't need to do it again. Don't bother to download 4EXT you can use clockwork to do the rest, it's very similar. Titanium backs up your apps not your rom. So you can skip that as they are prob not your choice of apps anyway. Alternatively use "My Backup" from the market (get the rooted version) to do the same job as titanium, it is much easier to use for a noob.
So download 3.1T to your SD card. Do all the wipe stuff and install it.
Always "WIPE DATA /FACTORY RESET" when installing a new rom.
Good Luck.

I've tried searching for the RUU here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=695667 and on http://shipped-roms.com/index.php?category=android&model=Bravo
but I had no success. I can't seem to find the exact same names. Can anyone help out?
This is my first time trying this so I am trying to gather up as much info as I can to be completely safe on this.
Also I've read that some users with Hboot 0.93.0001 don't manage to use Unrevoked, what's the solution to this?
I've read the noobproof guide and watched the videos, is there anything else you guys would suggest before I attempt this?
How profitable is the outcome of rooting and flashing? Thanks in advance
click all things root on my sig. with hboot 0.93.xx ya can use revolutionary. benifits are a rediculous amount of rom choices, change hboots, so ul be able to get more internal memory, better battery life etc etc. really is well worth it, ul be able to get the most out of ur phone.

In addition to the advantages jmcclue mentioned, you are able to install and use apps from the market which need root access like Titanium Backup or Set CPU to make backups of your apps and data or change the frequency of your CPU to save battery and gain more performance. And your are finally able to make a complete nandroid backup of your system (like an image) and be able to recover your phone if needed.
I've got nearly the same configuration of my phone and unrevoked worked for me like a charm - it is easier than you migth think.

Thanks, I've read it all. Rooted , S-off, and flashed Cyanogen mod . All worked great.
But I still have a question about that software version. Can you read the question that I've asked first. I can't seem to find the exact same version of the software.
I find the exact same Baseband version but the software number is not 2.29.405.14 it's 2.29.405.5 , will that work the same or will I not be able to apply the RUU? Thanks.
No need to use ruu other than android 2.3 from shipped ROMs imho.

[HELP] Problems with Desire after recovery

Hi guys,
I´ve got a stock Desire with Android 2.2.2. (OTA update some two years ago). Some days ago I noticed my camera was not working nor did the flashlight app. After turning off and on the device a couple of times the flashlight started working again but not the camera. Trying to fix what I thought might be a software problem I went into Hboot menu and into recovery and selected reboot. Nothing seemed to have changed until i noticed my battery was only lasting for 4 or 5 hours when it used to last at least 1,5 days. Also, I just noticed my 3G mobile network connection is not working either.
How may I correct this? I've already tried a factory reset but without success. I was just looking at an youtube video from a XDA member about flashing RUU's and thought that it might do it. Is there a difference between flashing a RUU and a factory reset? I'm not very confortable doing it as I've never rooted or flashed any device, but I'm willing to take the chance...
Thanks for your support...
Flashing a ruu is basically reinstalling the stock firmware. Factory resetting is just wiping the data on the phone.
If you want to flash a ruu, check my sig. Download the 2.3 ruu. Don't change the zip name. Take the zip and put it on the root of your sd-card, and boot in hboot. Then select "yes" and wait.
This will upgrade your firmware to Android 2.3.3, which is faster than froyo, but it will wipe all your internal data.
merante ridicule
Thank you for your reply.
Now it´s clearer to me. Factory reset doesn't correct any system issues.
I already found the RUU i currently have on my phone, but maybe I could upgrade to 2.3. Does the RUU in your sig work for my Desire?
My data are:
Andriod version: 2.2.2.
Baseband: 32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27
Kernel: 2.6.32.15-gfa401c
Software number: 2.29.405.14
Just a small update concerning the battery issue: it seems to be the battery itself which is the problem. I installed a new one last night and now battery behaviour is back to normal. I will try the old one again though, in order to be sure it's gone.
The ruu in my sig works for your desire. It actually works for almost every Bravo on the market.
Thank you once again.
I just managed to correct my 3G problem also. I didn't restore the network definitions after the factory reset (didn't know I had to or how it is done ), but after a quick call to tech support it is fixed.
Now I will probably give the RUU update a try and also root and s-off (must resaerch a little more - XDA forum has tones of good info :good...
In my sig, there's a Desire All Root guide. Check it out.

Hi, some developments and more help needed
Followed the guides above and now my Desire is rooted, s-offed using revolutionary and 4ext recovery is installed and I've partitioned my new 32 GB sdcard with 2GB ext4. Sadly, I've not updated to android 2.3.3 with the PB99IMG RUU, so I'm still with the 2.2.2.
But, even after sd partition, my available internal memory has not increased. What do I have to do to install all new apps on the sd?
If I update now for 2.3.3. using PB99IMG will I lose root and s-off? If I have to flash a new rom, which do you suggest? I'm used to the stock htc sense and don't really want to upgrade unless I have to.
I would really appreciate any suggestions...
Tks.
Don't use the RUU. You will lose root and s-off. Just install a custom rom, and your storage will increase.

Thank you for your reply :good:.
Could you please suggest a stable rom based on gingerbread with htc sense (early versions prefered) and also point out a detailed noob friendly tutoorial for flashing roms? I must do some more research but if you could point me out in the right direction it would be very useful
Sorry to be such a pain in the a**, but I'm just getting started in the rom world and not very tech inclined also...
Tks.
