With x8 all this was easy, i was trying to find answer on forum here but no succes.

Thanks to everybody in advance!!!
You need to have an unlocked bootloader and flash one of doomlord's kernel's it is embedded in the kernel itself that is the only way

Hey guys! As the title states, Just trying to figure out a step-by-step way to upgrade my Arc to 4.0+ whilst having a LOCKED BOOTLOADER.
I am unable to unlock the bootloader and understand this causes quite a few problems.
I already "bricked" the phone once..had to repair it to get it back to stock again. I don't want to go through that again..
So, it would be greatly appreciated if someone could kindly direct me to, or outline here, a step-by-step guide to installing ICS on my Xperia Arc.
Thanks for all your time and help!
Use flashtool to flash the official ICS release.

Hey thanks for the quick reply. Do I need to have root before upgrading? And also, do I need CWM recovery?
Can I just use flashtool to flash the ftf file?
Thanks again for the help. Much appreciated

Just flash using flashtool, it flashes the kernel too. I think Binary has added a root file too.

There is an update you need to apply to flashtools if you have version .6 you need version .7 look in stickies for flashtools... Info in that thread.

If your phone is Xperia Arc(LT 15i) I recommend you to wait the official update of ICS for arc, at this moment ICS is available for Arc S. I have Xperia Arc but i use a custom ICS rom with custom kernel, and bootloader unlocked.
Thanks everyone for the info.
My Xperia is LT15a, but I recently got it repaired and now it says LT18a instead. =S
Android 2.3.4
Baseband: 8x55A-AAABQOAZM-203028D-64
Kernel: 2.6.32.9-perf - [email protected] #1
Build Number: 4.0.2.A.0.62
Bootloader is Locked
Can I still upgrade?
Thanks again for your time and help!

huh ? i do not understand... is it okay for the repair shop to do that ? . . . there are several h/w differences between last year's model and this year's model to 'require' the new internal s/w to properly talk to the new h/w ( drivers... )
.
please correct me if i am wrong.
Hi guys, i have flashed LT18i 4.0.2.A.0.62 to my Arc S, it works fine but i Wanted to clear the bloatware so I need root for that.
I couldn't find any direct method (forund the one to downgrade o .42 then to root, but it's too much hassle), can it be done?
Also if easier and anyone knows which ROM i can flash with any Stock 2.3.4 without bloatware + CWM etc... i just don't like custom roms, as it
turns default works just fine for me.
So:
1. How to root stock LT18i 4.0.2.A.0.62
2. Link to pre rooted 2.3.4 (LT18i 4.0.2.A.0.62) stock kernel + cwm - bloatware
You can not root. 62 it is no hassle to use flashtools to flash The.42/.56 root then update ota ( only if bootloader Is locked otherwise you will brick your phone)

Both answers easily found with Google.

To answer People need to do what you're perfectly capable of doing yourself, and should have done in the first place.

Hello,
Maybe a dumb question but is Xperia Play 2.3.4, 4.0.2.A.0.69 flashable?
And how to install a custom rom, and phone is rooted.

Will it not work how they're rooting the new U firmware? Just use flashtool to flash kernel only of the older firmware. Root with binary, then use flashtool to flash kernel only of the latest firmware again?

and what about the warranty? and i heard that flashing down/downgrading is only possible when you have a unlocked bootlader
you can use flashtool even if youre on locked bootloader.
Flashtool is fine for warranty etc as it's only flashing official sony files

The same reason People start new threads about an existing topic that's been answered a million times already maybe. And what you call rude others called direct. Why you get short answers! (The Long Answer)
Kernel KTG 1.52
You can try with Kernel KTG 1.52 good luck!
