Ok here's the deal... I replaced the original mail.apk of AceSMod007 v41 with the mail.apk of AceSMod-3D version without taking the backup and the mail icon has disappeared.
I put back the original mail.apk which came with the ROM but the app is not shown
Please help me how can I bring it back
the path of the app is /system/app
Can anyone guide me with this problem as I don't want to flash my ROM again
Just flash the rom again without a wipe. Whats the problem? You lose nothing except 2 minutes of your time.

Hey everyone,
I just got my evo (2.2) rooted last night (pretty happy about that since that was my first time rooting, and I got it on the first try, thanks to that amazing guide in the dev section). So far I've been able to remove all the Sprint crapware, without any problem. My next goal is a little more ambitious though and I want to make sure I don't mess this up...
I hate the new default mail app. This IMAP sync functionality for POP3 accounts really sucks.
So what I was wondering is... Would it be possible to manually swap out /system/app/mail.app for the mail.app from 2.1? What are the risks/dependencies? Has anyone tried this yet? And last, but not least, if this is possible, does anyone know where I can get a copy of the mail.app from 2.1?
Thanks,
Rifraf

You can just download the stock rooted 2.1 zip from the wiki, then open the zip, all the apk's will be in system then apps, .. I think thats where they are anyway. If thats no it just search around in the zip. The Mail.apk will be there somewhere.
So now I've got the Mail.apk and Mail.odex files from the 1.47.651.6 ROM.
I tried replacing the stock 2.2 Mail.apk and Mail.odex files in /system/app, and set the permissions on these files to 644 (same as the originals). Now the app isn't showing up at all on the phone in the UI.
Looks like, in the meantime, I'll be putting back the original 2.2 Mail apk/odex.
From what I read at code.google.com/p/smali/wiki/DeodexInstructions (sorry, n00bs can't include links in posts here), it appears that the only way to replace the new Mail.apk with the older version is to regenerate the odex file? Is this correct? This is, of course, assuming that the apk itself will work on the later OS (I'm hoping it will).
And if so, is there a walkthrough / guide how to do this?
Thanks,
rifraf

Your post is a tad confusing. Are you attempting to push an HTC clock onto an AOSP or Sense Gingerbread rom? If it is the former, it's not going to work. If it is the latter, wouldn't it be easier to simply go into recovery, wipe cache & dalvik and then reflash the rom?

Hello guys....
I've accidentally backuped and removed my stock ClockPackage.apk from my i8150...
I've tried to restore by the same app, but did not working.
I've also tried to copy back the original Apk (i've it in backup folder of Rom Toolbox), tried to install...but still nothing.
The odex file it is also still there...
So, for now i've just installed an alternative clock/alarm from market, and it is working (but have Ads!), but...there is a method to have back Clock app in app drawer?
PS:
And, pls... do not say "have you a nandroid backup"?
Yes, i Have, but i just want to know if there is a method to restore the app in few steps
[SOLVED]
Ok... solved, also if i do not know exactly how
For future references...
I had already bring the apk back to system/app, where is located also the odex file.
Nothing was happened, also after restart...
Then, i tried to install the clockpackage.apk from the AOSP gingerbread, and it gave me the same error (App not installed).
But, like in a miracle, after this, app is back to the app drawer
Happy ending!
have you change the permission when you push the apk in system/app ?
just want to ask

Great thread spino1970, mostly because I made the same mistake you did, lol...
Now I really need your help... Could you kindly attach the ClockPackage.apk and the odex file in this thread so that I can use it too??? Thanks a lot man!!! I was trying to get rid of those useless widgets and made a mistake...
[Update]
I managed to get the ClockPackage.apk and the ClockPackage.odex from another device (running on 2.3.5 instead of 2.3.6) and now I get the following error while trying to install the apk:
"Parse Error: There is a problem parsing the package"
Does anybody know what to do?
While not a noob, I am not well versed on this matter. I have used, on other ROM's , a custom mail.apk that did not put the security policy that is pushed down from exchange servers.
Recently, I have moved to TommyTomatoe's EVO Classic ROM which is Sense 1.0. I can no longer get these mail.apk's to load. I do not know if this has to do with TommyTomatoe's rom or if it is a Sense1.0 issue. The stock mail.apk works fine.
When I tried to install the mail.apk, I renamed the original mail.apk and put the new mail.apk in the root/system/app directory. When I try to open the app it starts to install and then fails. In the past on other ROM's this worked fine.
Does anyone have any ideas as to how I can get these to install

Any luck?
Did you make sure /system was mounted as read/write when trying to install?
Did you try putting it in there then rebooting?
How about installing it regular then use ROM toolbox/Titanium backup to switch it to a system app?

Have you changed permissions after putting apps in system folder?
Of course I changed permissions and owner. I always get "unexpected close"
