Random loss of sound - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

This has happened on almost every android phone I have had. I am sitting in front of my T989 and it is plugged into my computer. For some reason, there are no sound notifications for emails/text. It vibrates (as I have it always do) but no sound.
I don't understand. I have Motion turned off so I know it isn't something like "flip to slience" and volume is turned off. HELP!?

check the ringtones/music assignment
make sure those files are accessible
there are also 6 volume bars you should verify they are at least on 50%
sometimes after you mount the internal storage as a USB device, and come back
it tends to forget the ringtones/music select
it's a bug in most android

Feedback for Microsoft?

I've looked all over Microsoft's WM7 sites and I haven't seen any place to give feedback on the phone. So far I really like it and coming from a quite happy 3 year iPhone user, I think that says a lot. I tried wireless sync last night, that's really cool.
I know an update is coming, I know it's going to be a work in progress, but where can we give some legit feedback? I know I have a good few suggestions and feature requests but haven't seen anywhere to do so.
Any ideas? Plus what features/changes would you like to see?
Obvious ones are custom ringtones, copy paste, etc. but I'd like:
1. set time before the passcode lockout goes into effect instead of every stinkin time
2. when a call comes in, not having to slide up AND press accept call
3. a reoccurring message notification if you missed a text
4. option to keep battery and signal level displayed at all times
5. a way to get back to messages while in a message (back goes to wherever you were before, not necessarily directly to messages)
6. A flashlight app that uses the LED would be nice
HTC has a flashlight that uses the LED, except on the one device they have with a xenon.
I'd suggest a car mode or docked mode for Zune, leave the screen powered on, unless I turn it off when connected to power and listening to music. If unplugged or paused, turn screen off according to settings in power management, (also if the proxmity sensor is tripped for more than 15 sec, assume I put the device in my pocket or flipped it over [while plugged in]).

Few Questions about Captivate Glide

I have been considering getting Captivate Glide, but have a few questions: (I will be upgrading from the HTC Fuze)
1) Data - If you have a WIFI connection to the internet, will it use that as a primary connection instead of using the carriers network? Can you turn the carrier data usage off?
2) Alarm Clock - Will the alarm still sound even when phone is set to silent? Can you customize alarm tones?
3) Notifications - Can you customize txt message tones? Does the phone have a "vibrate & ring" type function?
4) Any hardware key re-mapping available for this phone yet? (Both hard keys and touch buttons)
5) Is it possible to disable the g-sensor? I only want the screen to rotate if I open the keyboard)
A. What options does Android have for manual screen rotation?
6) Many new phones have the feature that turns the screen off when it is face down or up against your face. Is is possible to disable that feature? I really hate the screen turning off when I use the phone in the dark while on a call. It makes it really hard to use the dial pad when it keeps turning off the screen.
7) Camera flash, can it be toggled without being in the camera app? (Using it for a flashlight?)
8) I'm sure it does, but does it have a voice recording feature?
9) Call recording - Can I have it record both ends of the conversation of a call?
10) Any apps available that will enable the phone to vibrate when touched?
That's all for now haha. I may think of more though.
I can answer a few of these:
1) Yes, wi-fi is used if available. The phone only connects to the cellular data network if no wireless network is connected. Also, I'm pretty sure there is a setting to disable connecting to the cellular data network, if that's what you mean.
2) Yes, alarms sound even if the phone is on silent. There are a number of preset tones you can choose from, and you can also use any sound file on your phone's storage (such as the SD card) as a tone.
3) Yes, you can customize text and notification tones. Also, you can set the phone to vibrate and ring.
4) Not sure. I don't think there's any built-in support for it.
5) Yes, you can disable automatic screen rotation through the settings. This way, it'll only change when you open the keyboard.
6) Yes, you can turn off the proximity sensor, which means the screen will stay on while on a call.
7) I don't know if there's a built-in feature to turn the flash on outside the camera, but there are plenty of Android market apps that can turn it on for use as a flashlight.
8) Yes, there is a voice recording feature.
9) I don't think there's any built-in support for that, but there may be 3rd party solutions.
10) By default, the phone will slightly vibrate when you touch any of the four LED buttons on the bottom of the phone (menu, home, back, search). There may be a way to have it vibrate in other situations, but I haven't explored that yet.
Hope this helps.
Awesome, that helps a lot! Thanks for the info. Pretty sure I will be getting this phone. Im fairly new to Android, so I will have a lot to learn!

Just to provide some insight, I have both the SGS2 and the Glide and I prefer the Glide to the SGS2 because it's just the right size for my palm and fits in my pockets neatly while the SGS2 feels too big for carrying around in my hands and pockets and needs to be clipped onto my belt and the hardware keyboard comes in handy for things like emulators and blocks of text.

Easiest answer is the same as another poster above, N1 Torch works just fine, I don't notice any difference in LED brightness between normal and overvolted settings.

Thank you.
Would the Alarms sound even if the phone is turned off?
If not, is that ROM-dependent or hardware dependent? Would a third-party app fix/solve this?

If phone is in sleep mode the alarm will still sound, if phone is off it is equivalent to having the battery removed, so no it will not sound the alarm if phone is off.

Multiple issues in Oneplus 3

Hello people
I am facing the following issues in my phone which is running OxygenOS 3.2.1.
1. Push notifications not coming until the phone is unlocked again
2. Alert slider causing the phone to go completely silent.
To add to the misery I was using my wifi on 2.4 GHz band but when I tried to connect to 5GHz band it does not connect and the error shows wifi connection failure. All my other devices are connected successfully to this band even my 4 year old Nexus 4 but Oneplus 3 does not seem to connect for a single time
This is really becoming disappointed for me bow after push notification and alert slider issues.
The range of 2.4 GHz wifi is not even half of what my Nexus 4 used give me.
I am using ASUR WRT 68u router.
These are very basic features of a cellphone which are required on the very first moment.
I am Totally frustrated with this device as I can't use it for my daily life!!! I don't know if people in this forum are not having any such issues with their devices.
1. push notification can be blocked when the screen is locked (to avoid that other people can see SMS for example). In the "When device is locked" option, "show all notification content" should be selected if you want notification. Also the alert slider should be on the 3rd position, the position closed to the volume up button. If you want to use the middle slider position, you need to select some apps as priority apps for notification.
2. hmmm I think it's the purpose of the alert slider... especialy in the 1st position, the further to the volume up button.
It's strange you seems to misunderstand it as when you put in silent mode, it say "silent" on the screen. I put my phone in english to be sure, maybe the translation in your language is not accurate.
Anyway the slider mode can be customized in the alert slider options.
For wifi, it seems ok for me but I can't test 5GHz at the moment.
1. Not sure if I see this behaviour but if I do isn't botherimg me.
2. I know put slider to silent and it silences the phone, this is probably my favourite feature of the phone. Completely silence the phone without even taking it out of my pocket genius.
3. Sent on my 5ghz WiFi connection.

I think you misunderstood me. Here are your replies:
1. The push notification issue is a doze mode bug since the notifications do appear and the sound plays ok until the device enters into doze mode after which there is no notification and no connectivity maintained which causes the notifications to stop, once the phone is unlocked the notifications start to appear
2. Well I know the purpose of alert slider and I am talking about when the slider is is normal position i.e. downwards, sometimes the notification sounds disappear and there is complete silence, the slider has to be cycled again by moving upward then downward to fix the issue.
for the slider, wipe your phone completely, reset it in other words.
If your slider bug still there, contact oneplus customer service to replace your phone.
and your first problem seems to be related to the second one as it enter the silent mode on it's own.

I have completely wiped off the phone and installed 3.2.1 from the signed flashable zip... the wifi issue is still there
I will check and update about the first two issues if they're solved... I have contacted customer support but they have not provided a satisfactory response yet.
When I upgraded to 3.2.1, I had the same issues as stated above AS WELL AS an issue with VoLTE that forced me to disable LTE in order to have a decent phone call. I reverted back 3.1.2 until OnePlus gets these issues ironed out. Overall, 3.1.2 has been much better for me.
I have installed freedomOS from xda and stock ROM again.. wifi issue is resolved but push notification and alert slider issues still persist in freedomOS as well as stock ROM.. I don't have VoLTE feature here so can't test
About the random silence, did you restore apps and settings from old phonethat had automatic disturb profiles? If so, reset and do not restore...
I'm not experiencing any of these issues, only issue is the random turn off

Notifications get stuck on silent

I put my Note 10+ on silent at night and it's on vibrate when I'm at work.
When I put it back on sound via the pull down panel, often the notifications do not go back to full sound which is rather annoying.
Is this a known issue?
Personally, I use "Bixby Routines" to set the locations where phone is on silent/vibration and on sound.
The volumes stay as they were when it changes and it works seamlessly.
Like you said, at workwhere I need it silent, it uses GPS to determine where I am and changes to vibrate , when I walk through the door at home it turns all sound back on.
Neat little feature that is hidden on the phone like soooo many awesome things...

Thanks for the tip. I will definitely explore this. I have a lot to learn after 3 years with Huawei.

LOL, it's a new feature exclusive to Note 10/10+...
Tried to install Bixby Routines onto the Note 9 but it fails...
To find little nuggets of information and awesome features, youtube is your friend... 90% you may already know but there are always little surprises there too, like how to send an sms at a certain time even if you don't have your phone with you. Good for espionage... Also you can set a reminder from a received sms to sound at a certain time and the message will show up on the screen again.
Always learning....
I have this same problem. It's rather annoying
I have a similar issue, but, in my case ALL notifications sound, except gmail, I've been trying anything that I could think of to no avail, I finally gave up and made a macro to sound when a gmail arrives, it's just a work around, but works
Same issue when using Volume buttons and Bixby Routine
Please let me know when someone figures this out. It is rather frustrating! So when I use Bixby Routine it knows the location of my workplace and automatically changes my phone to vibrate mode and when I leave work it changes the sound to turn back on. The only issue is that everything goes back to normal (ringtone, media, system, Bixby voice) except for notifications!
Even if I adjust my phone using just the volume buttons instead of the Bixby routine it would change everything to vibrate but when I change it back the notification sound is the only thing that stays silent while everything else goes back to the setting I originally had it at.
Ugh... I already cleared my cache with the physical button I thought it worked but it went back to doing the same thing...

What does reboot completed null mean?

Well that is something you code into your app if you want it to be active once your device finished booting.
If your device boots up, some apps and processes are started. If an app (e.g. a sms app) wants to function after booting (e.g. notify you if a new sms arrives) that app has to "listen" to your device which basiclly says "Okay, I finished booting." Every app listening to that will then start theirselves.

Don't know why, but this seems to say that the value vor "reboot completed" is null (no value found/set).
Since it's a toast you get (that's the name of the message appearing) I guess some app was coded to display it's boot_completed status.
However, I don't really think you should be worried about, but I also don't think you can disable toasts...
Thanks for the reply I found out the issue it was sam tweaks
Also is there a way to remove the loud volume warning I've only noticed it as an issue due to my old headphones I just started using that are not as sensitive so need the volume up ,
Originally you only see the warning the first time after a factory reset ,(it does not happen after every reboot anymore like it used to be in oreo )
you can dismiss it the notification and turn up the volume and you wont see it again for 10 or 11 days (I tested it it )of keeping the volume in the red section
Then suddenly without warning the music volume will drop and you think wtf grab the phone and unlock it and the loud volume warning pop up is there and you need to dismiss it to get the volume back. That's the only time it happens 10 or 11 days of keeping the volume high in the red area.
I've had this phone a year and never knew about this because I never needed to have the headphone volume in the red area or maxed out for more than 10 or 11 days.but because the headphones I'm using now are not loud, I needed the volume up and noticed this.ive odinid back to pie from android 10 but still it's the same.so you get 10 or 11 days of high volume then Samsung automatically turns yours music down if you keep it in the red area.im from uk running all stock no root standard official fw
Bump for some help with the loud volume warning forcing the music down?does android 10 fix this issue or does that auto force your music volume down after around 10 days like I've just noticed on pie 9 one ui
