help rooting phone - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I got the phone to show in adb with the drivers installed and everything. When unrevoked^3 loads, it goes through the process and reboots the phone into the boot loader but then when it's waiting for the phone to restart and try to flash the recovery it says failed and the phone still isn't rooted. Any ideas?

i had this same problem as you described setting up my dev phone. are you running a windows XP machine?
i tried to use unrevoked 3 on windows 7 but it wasnt working for me so i had to dig out my old pc that had windows xp and it worked.

I had the same issue with Windows 7. After trying many things I found that if I booted up in Safe Mode Unrevoked worked.

If you are on 2.3, i don't think they have a root exploit yet.

HERO Update

I download the RUU Rom link and ran it. I have the phone connected, but when I try to do the update it says my phone is not connected. Anyone have any ideas?
First suggestion would be not to use the RUU as from what I've seen it updates HBOOT which seems to restrict things going forward .
modaco's 2.2 rom is basically a rooted rom from the RUU you can also get the updated radio from his site too without updating HBOOT.
Both the radio and the rom are in a nice update.zip format which is easy to use but you do need to backup contacts stored on the phone and sms etc as it does require a wipe. (the again I believe the RUU dies this too anyway).

Try to start it from the fastboot. Switch of the phone. Turn it on again holding the back, and on/off button till you see the 'fastboot' screen. Then connect the phone with the PC and wait till the drivers are loaded and you see in the screen 'fastboot usb'. Then run RUU****.exe again.
That worked on my Vista Ultimate 64bits machine.

[Q] Big problem with Evo!

Okay so yesterday I accidentally downloaded an old RUU and attempted to run it. I got an error in the middle of it and my phone was then stuck on a silver and black HTC screen. When I unplugged the USB it would take me to the Bootloader where it would then only say "RUU". Phone won't reboot or go into recovery. And one more small problem... The battery just died and wont charge. Would really appreciate some help. Thanks.

can I use " Okay so yesterday I accidentally downloaded an old RUU and attempted to run it." in my sig???
btw what hboot did you have before and what version ruu did you try and install?
Yes lmao.
Version 2.10, downloaded new one but having trouble doing it since battery died and not sure the phone will actually connect.
charge the battery some and see if the phone turns on, see if it will boot into recovery/rom etc
Ok, will try to charge battery, but from what i've tried, could not get in to recovery or get the bootloader to come up.
if you can not get anything on the screen and the phone won't mount the sdcard and adb won't connect, be prepared for a drive to the sprint store

Hahahaha ^^^ Anyways new info did get the phone to get a charge. But now cannot get it to connect to computer.
I've actually came across this on the HTC Hero CDMA. i accidentally installed the wrong hero rom, cause at the time i was a noob to the android. an i tried to ruu but it failed. i kept doing all i could and playing with it. but where u ruu got half way through. and debug mode/recovery is reset by half way through.
only thing you can do is try to get into Hboot mode and try to see if u can connect to usb that way. then try to ruu

Just go's back to the "Silver and black HTC screen" and if I pull the USB (when in my computer) It will show me an option in the bootloader thats says RUU thats it. Can't do anything from there.

If you can get into the bootloader your going to be just fine. Use the fastboot option in the bootloader to get your phone to connect to your computer, I have done this numerous times to unroot! You might have to reboot your computer just to refresh the connection etc and also reboot the bootloader a few times from that fastboot menu before running the RUU on the computer.

Okay, you have to get into the fastboot option and then run the RUU. Sorry I am having some trouble understanding because you are being a little vague. But to get into fastboot it has to be done before you run the RUU.

No you shouldnt need to pull the SD. But I would try rebooting your computer and maybe your phone and get into the bootloader without it connected to your computer. Then connect it and go into fastboot and try what i described earlier.

Fully Bricked Galaxy Nexus! HELP!

Okay so my friend bricked his galaxy nexus (Gave it to me because he said its bricked) of course i accepted it lol. But i tried to fix it i did everything i could from reading forums i swear i have worked forever looking for a fix. It is completely unresponsive no download mode. no ADB connection because when it plugs into a computer it shows up as OMAP 4440 or something like that. i have tried all kinds of different drivers and i have tried on multiple computers (Xp, Windows7, even a mac) he said he was flashing the sdcard or something and unplugged it by accident. So i could understand that being a issue since the phone only has a internal sd card. Anyone know how to get it back? i havent seen a Jtag yet for it and i have a Jig for my Galaxy Sii Skyrocket but it doesnt work on the nexus (FYI to anyone out there the jig works on my dads samsung windows phone) HELP!
You tried different drivers? You should just use the most current ones for the phone. Did you try the new toolkit mskip posted? Did you isntall the SDK?

Thanks for the response i didnt use mskips i dont think. i have tried the galaxy nexus toolkit 6.0 or whatever but i have tried all kinds of drivers including the google official galaxy nexus i515 or something like that. it shows up as omap 4440 in app manager and disconnects and connects constantly then says device didnt install properly. what do you mean by the sdk? i cant find any way to access my phone. i think i tried something with sdk but im not sure
Yes i read up i did do that GNex Toolkit v6.0 and it wouldnt find my phone (Because of the omap 4440 disconnect and reconnect thing i believe.
First off, on't use a toolkit.
Second, when you plug it in, go to device manager, right click the "OMAP 4460" and click install driver. Either install PDANet or find the driver online and your phone should be able to be used in fastboot.
Finally, if your (Or your friends) phone was "Fully Bricked" it wouldn't be recognized by the computer, it wouldn't turn on, it would literally not be able to do anything except sit there, the fact that the computer sees it means that it is "Soft Bricked" which is much less serious.

I can get mine into CWM, but whenever I'm flashing a ROM, it reboots itself.
Install PDANet and when it asks for your phone, go into Task Manager and force close the process. This will keep the driver/program installed without needing your phone and it should then be seen in recovery.
Not working still :/
Thanks for highjacking my post twinky lol. i have seen the answer to yours around... google a little more.

Please Help!
My phone goes into boot loader and download mode however every time I flash Stock it finishes successfully and goes to the same google screen its always stuck on. I'm kinda a n00b so if anyone could help me with this (try to have a lot of detail) I would be grateful. Thanks
It sounds like what I did to my Galaxy Note before I bought my Nexus. When unrooting I overwrote my bootloader with a missed character through ADB. I tried everything, naked drivers, ODIN, all it would come up with was OMAP on the PC. I ended up having to return it to AT&T. Ask him if he was trying to root it the old way through ADB.

samiaziz, make sure you're wiping everything before flashing a stock rom. It wouldn't hurt to wipe system, cache and dalvik and then restart recovery (in advanced menu) and wipe again before flashing the stock rom.
Ok, as long as it shows up, it's still working
OMAP440 is the processor, which means, that is is working, but the bootloader is corrupt, or missing. I'd say it's corrupt (Flash-error)
The best way I've found, check this website: http://www.mobiletechvideos.com and see if they have a JTAG solution... (My JTAG device will arrive in a few weeks )
Even if they don't, send it in, and they'll figure out a way to do that I think they do some special offer, if you send it in for testing purposes...
But, other than that, there's no way I can help you. The firmware is completely fu**ed...
Tried That
I have already tried getting into recovery but that dosnt work. it takes me to the google splash screen
2 words: fastboot, linux.
sent from my i9250
Instead of JTAG-ing it, you could always try this. The maker of the Riffbox JTAG has come out with a solution for unbricking by reflashing the OMAP processor.. Aptly named OMAPFlash.
I've used it with success several times, but also had it fail on me. It can't hurt though, if your phone is already bricked.
If it's coming up with OMAP4460 (even briefly) when the phone is plugged into your computer without a battery, you are able to run the program. You just need to install the drivers for it.
See http://forum.gsmhosting.com/vbb/f634/unbrick-dead-samsung-gt-i9250-galaxy-nexus-32gb-prime-via-usb-cable-freeeeeeeeeeee-1465412/ for download.

[Q] tried everything can't use fastboot - begging and pleading for help!

OK so I am using windows 8.1; have searched everywhere and tried just about everything imaginable but I still cant get fastboot to work with my HTC One. The phone is recognized fine when I type adb devices on the main screen, however, when I boot into fastboot the phone is simply not recognized by Windows any longer. I get the message USB DEVICE NOT RECOGNIZED. I am currently looking to update my HBOOT which is 1.54.0000 and was under the impression that I need to do a fastboot flash to do this. I am currently running Viper Rom 5.8.
I am desperate here and am willing to make a donation to the person who solves my issue.

After sending to HTC to have the camera sensor fixed I could no longer get fastboot to work and I had to suffer with stock for a couple of months. I finally resolved this by updating sdk having read recent Windows 7 updates could be the culprit, maybe it was a usb driver update, but was still having issues.I read to try turning usb debug off and on which in the end may have been all that was required. Finally back to S-off running Viper 6.1 which team Viper deserves major props on for a brilliant job. BTW I'm on Windows 7 Ultimate with usb 3 ports only.

Bricked my phone

Hello guys, I'm a newbie on pretty much anything dev related when it comes to phones. And I guess this time I screwed things up. My phone was rooted and it was working perfectly, but when I tried to enter SuperUser app it said I needed to root manually again, probably because it updated to android 5.0. So I tried to one click root and it didn't work. So as dumb as I am I started messing around with things and I ended up with my phone completely broke. I can't even get into recovery mode or anything. My phone is just stuck on logo screen and then it dies. I tried like a thousand times to enter recovery by pressing power and volume up, but that's just doesn't work anymore. And fastboot can't reconize my phone anymore, so I can't even try to boot a recovery or something. I guess I fuc*** everything now. But I don't know. Is there still hope guys?
