Does anyone else get slow USB transfer speeds. I had a class 10 card that I used in my EVO generally got between 8 - 10 MB per sec. Using the same card in the SG2 and I got between 4-5 MB per sec. Roughly one 1/2.
Upgraded to a 64 GB class 6 card and I get between 2 - 3 MB per sec. One half of what I would expect.

Okay, so I have a major annoyance. I just bought a brand new Kingston 32 GB class 6 card for my Evo and I'm getting transfer speeds under 1 MB/sec on Win7 x64 Pro. For instance, I was transferring some video files from my 10k RPM drive via the stock cable and was getting 668 KB/sec. I had Vista and I'd get 7+ MB/sec transfers on a 4 GB class 6 card. What gives? My internet downloads much faster than that...c'mon!
Any suggestions/tips/etc are appreciated.

Not much you can do besides changing the formats of what you are transferring
It took about 20 minutes to transfer 2.99 GB from my Macbook to my EVO... I thought the class is the minimum write speed - i.e. Class 4 ~ 4 MB/s write. If I did the math right, writing about 3GB = ~3000 MB, at 4 MB/s that's ~750 seconds = ~12.5 minutes...minimum.
Is there a way I can effectively test this thing (on a Mac preferably)?

You can try either of these two programs. They are bot in the zip they will bench test your sd card, only work on windows though. You may be able to find them for a Mac. Sorry I only use windows so can't help much with the Mac side of things.

thank you for that lil proggie gonna ck my new Lexar 32gig out 2nite when i get home...took me approx 30 mins maybe to xfer over approx 7 gigs from the old card!
I am planning to buy a memory card for my Galaxy 3.
I already have a Class 2 8GB card which I will give to my father.
So I was looking for a better memory card this time.
I have following 3 options right now.
8 GB class 10 : Rs 700/-
16 GB class 6 : Rs 1100/-
32 GB class 4 : Rs 1950/- (Probably not worth it)
I was actually looking for 32 GB class 10 within 2000 but not available. or even if it is available, It wont be affordable for me.
I would like some developers like Dharam, Hillbeast, Naveen or Kyrillos to suggest me what should I go for.
I am planning to use 2GB a2sd partition & 256MB swap on it.
How about Class 6 performance? Would I miss something if I go for the 16GB card?
Meaning, do I really need a class 10 card for a2sd and swap?
If anyone from India can direct me to some better deals than above 3 then I would be thankful.

Worst choice. The sd card is slow so app2sd will be slow and you won't even use 32GB of space. Class 10 is fastest so you will be fine since you want to partition 2GB

I bought a samsung 8 GB class 6 microsd card from ebay-dot-in for around 500 Rs.It does not seem to lag, but sdtools my transfer speeds are 6 Mbps read and 4 Mbps write, which is the same as what i was getting earlier with a class 4 verbatim. These speeds were checked after setting the buffer to 2048 KB.

I think our phones have a certain limit on SD card read and write speeds

I feel like I need the 16 GB class 6.
btw I am getting 6 Mbps read 5 Mbps write (buffer = 4096 KB) on class 2 Transcend. Isn't that weird??? (I actually opened up to see. It is class 2 indeed!!)
Dont go for 32 gb - You are phone will get hang up
Use how much you required .I guess 16Gb is sufficient
i have a memory can of scandisk 16gb(class don't known)before this i have 8gb,4gb...
i used this on my evo 3d..
when i try to copy any item from laptop to this 16gb memory card it give max. speed 3.0--3.14 mb per second with using datacable or adaptor but if i try 8gb card now max. speed goes to 7mb(aprox.) ..also if i try to copy any item from memory card to laptop when speed goes near about 22 mb per sec. in both memory cards..
i can try this on many computer also but samething happen...
now what can i do ????

Compare the class of both cards, the card with higher class should be faster.
Another question may be if you are using the same usb port. Maybe one port is a 1.0 and the other 2.0.
Another reason may be the adaptor you are using for reading/writing, if you are using diferent adaptors maybe one of them is a 1.0 usb.
how can i find the class of sd cards...
i try this on all usb ports but samething happen ..
i have only one adopter...
I would guess it's the card's speed - it's normal for the "read" speed to be faster than the "write" speed.
The speeds you're getting sound like the card is probably a Class 4 - whereas the other ones that write faster have a higher speed.
Just look at the card, it has either a 2 or a 4 or a 6 in a circle stamped on it. Thats the class. The class = the number of MB/S it can transfer. A class 6, for example, transfers approximately 6mb / sec.
I also on my Wave 3 I have a microSD 8 GB Class 4, and is very slow
The games installed on the extern memory are hard to play... bah
Hey guys don't go for SanDisk. Its crap.i have blown my 32gb clsss 10 card and facing really problem for replacement. The support system is very weak.better go for some others.

samsung is a good option
sony though a bit costly lasts longer than any other cards.
I'll try it
---------- Post added at 09:30 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:25 AM ----------
I'm waiting until I get a 32GB SD card I ordered in Dealxtreme. I remember it was a class 4. I'll tell you.
I was using a Sandisk Ultra 64Gb micro SD card that was getting like 30 Megabytes per second read performance and 10 write according to A1 SD bench.
I just got in the mail a Sandisk Extreme Plus microSDXC UHS-I card and according to A1 SD bench on my Note 10.1 2014 it gets like 18 megabytes per second read performance and 20 for write.
I put my Sandisk Ultra 32GB micro sd card in the Note 10.1 and it got similar #'s to the Sandisk Ultra 64GB 30 meg per second read, 9 write.
I tried the Sandisk Extreme Plus microSDXC UHS-I card in my Galaxy S3 phone and it got like 50 Megabytes per second read, 20 write.
I don't understand why the read performance is so bad with the 64 GB card that is UHS-I on the Note 10.1 2014.
If anyone else has a Sandisk Extreme Plus UHS-I 64 Gig card, can you please run a benchmark with A1 SD bench and post your #'s?
Thanks
This might be of no help but I have a Samsung 64GB Class 10 UHS-1 Grade 1 and it works a treat. I haven't done a speed test but its pretty fast.

Could you please download A1 SD bench from google play and run the SD benchmark? The APK is only like 900 Kilobytes.
I looked through A1 SD benches reported results on the Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014 ediition) Almost every returned result I could see was 20 megabytes or under for read speed for 64 GB cards, and 10 - 20 megabytes per second write speed.
I saw a couple Sony devices that had 40 + meg per second read speeds. At this point my Cell phone (S3) with the same card can read from it over 100% faster. So I wonder if it is a Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014) bottleneck with the micro SD card slot with certain cards.
Edit:
I also did some comparing opening large PDF's on my 64 gig Extreme Plus card vs the standard 32 GB Ultra.
Large PDF's open much faster on the 32 GB ultra. 2 seconds vs 9 seconds on some large PDF's (500+ meg)

Yes thanks. It matches the #'s pretty close that I got for my Sandisk Ultra 64 GB card.
To recap in a Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014 edition) performance after several tests with A1 SD bench (using accurate with reboot advanced settings test for each):
Sandisk Ultra 64 GB card : 30-33 MB/S Read performance and 7-9 MB/S for write.
Sandisk Extreme Plus 64 GB card (exfat or fat32): 18-20 MB/S Read performance and 15-20 MB/S for write.
Sandisk Ultra 32 GB card: 30-32 MB/S Read performance and 9-11 MB/S for write.
I also tried my tests on stock firmware and flashed with cleanrom 2.0 R2. My results were the same.
In Samsung Galaxy S3 phone the same cards from above tested with A1 SD bench (using accurate with reboot advanced settings test for each):
Sandisk Ultra 64 GB card : 32-33 MB/S Read performance and 7-8 MB/S for write.
Sandisk Extreme Plus 64 GB card (exfat or fat32): 51-52 MB/S Read performance and 19-21 MB/S for write.
Sandisk Ultra 32 GB card: 32-33 MB/S Read performance and 9-11 MB/S for write.
If someone else has a Sandisk Extreme Plus 64 GB card, can you please post your #'s on the 10.1 2014?
Thanks
I just got a Lexar High Performance microSDXC 600x 64GB... 33 read 16 write. . Am watching this thread... Interested in a better performing card also.
You can't test within an 30mins-1hr of powering-on the device; the Media Scanner runs right after boot enumerating the SD-Card and will cut into your benchmark numbers.
