Hi, i have couple of HD movies on my system (DVD, Blu Ray). They are like 3-4 Gigs in size. Does anyone know if there is a way to compress them or convert them for our SGS2. Is any of you using any video converter/encoder software.

Convert them to mini mkv format if you don't want to lose a lot of space. You can use MiniCoder,or HandBrake, also Ani-x264,all these converters ,encode on small size[60 mb -episode] with good video quality.
Mnicoder end Ani-x264,use nero-aac codec ,for encode audio tracks

So can the G2 play WMA files or should I start to convert to mp3? If it can play WMA, what are the settings needed?
Thanks in advance.

Rockplayer..plays most codecs. AVI being the biggest for me. Vplayer is cool because it has gestures but rockplayer is most stable for me. Plays wma too just to clarify. They both do

Thanks a lot going to try them out now.

Yeah its good times being able to throw any rip on phone to watch at work and not bother having to shrink and convert

Any third party player should be able to handle most if not all media formats. The stock players often won't support rare formats like .m4a but if you really don't wanna convert them then stick to something like WinAmp.
So I am trying use a youtube downloader I know there used to be thousands of them on the market now there is only one and it doesn't work does anyone have a apk file of a youtube downloader one that has a mp3 download feature

Google an apk called tubex. It works like a charm.

I've always wondered does anyone know of an actual Youtube downloader and converter? All of these just save the video as an mp3 file.

Ill try it out.
Are you sure it doesn't just save the video as an mp3?

Tubemate!! They give you the option to download in MP3, FLV, SD, & HD if the Youtube video has it. I've had it since forever. Its great. Google search it. I think the link is tubemate.net Its like tubex except that tubex is a rip off copy. I've had tubemate since before tubex came out and yeah, tubex is a copy.

I haven't tried the options out myself but they are there for most videos. It also allows you to play all yotube video in mp4 format or 3GP (high or low quality) even if they aren't suited for mobile phone, I have used this feature before.

I've been using TubeMate as well and have had no issue's downloading YouTube files and with great quality and choices.
I still like keepvid better, it does everything you guys stated, and isn't limited to just YouTube videos as its source.

i just watched an AVI movie today using bsplayer lite, it free from market.
The other two players i have installed is Dice and Mobo. I kind of switched based on format.
So far I only watched avi and mkv. Using qqplayer as my primary movie player.

not sure, they all seems to be better for different formats. I have not found a favorite
I know this will sound like a crazy question but, is there any way to convert a movie directly on the phone?
MX Video Player
I use MX Video Player and it plays everything. Drop and drag movies, and play. Simple as that.
It also recognizes .SRT files too!
I also use Mx player. It is awesome. You can swipe to change subtitle time.

+1 MX Player. Love it.

MX players seems to be the consensus. Trying it meow
yeah mx movie player is the best I've used so far. No need to convert and I haven't found a format it doesn't play.

diceplayer ftw if you want to watch HD content.
don't know if mx player's been updated since but it would stutter when playing HD videos, prompting me to switch to diceplayer. full hw acceleration and smooth playback of 1080p mkv's.

+1 to DICE Player. Bought it when it was able to buy but the trial version is now a full-completed ad version. Couldn't be happier.
I prefer MP4 because the phone has a hardware decoder. Which probably saves some power.

mx player is amazing on galaxy nexus with full screen and subtitle !
dont try mobo amazing player but not full screen !!
What's the best movie player for playing 720p files? I've heard the stock player doesn't play all file formats. What do you use?
MX Player is always a great choice and is always one of the first things I download when I get a new device

I second the use of MX Player - been running it on both my phone and the Nexus 7 and it's great. I like that it was gesture controls as well as on-screen buttons.
The app called 'MX player' is the best player I found. It plays just about any type of video format you there.

I've had luck with BSPlayer

I used MX player since I purchased the N7 and i found it almost perfect. For everything else, you can try the nightlies of XMBC. Probably once it will be polished will be a good alternative.

I did not know about this one, thanks for the tip, I'll give it a try!
So far I've been using MXplayer, however, and ideally, I wish I could solely use VLC as I'd prefer to rely on open source software.

+1 for diceplayer and the plugin that allows DTS playback without sync issues
Just use MX

Diceplayer works well for me using hardware decoding.
MXplayer stutters for me using hardware decoding. Software decoding works fine on MXplayer, but uses more battery than h/w decoding.
Nothing I have found gas played 1080p video with DTS audio add well add bsplayer. This is very important to me add I rather not have top convert or download different versions for my mobile device

No one here uses "Super Video, Floating and Popup"? This and Mobo player have been ole faithfuls for me. For one Super Video has gestures, (turn volume up and down while watching movie), Also after one video ends, it automatically plays another. (Works very well when watching saved music videos, and don't want to have to click on another video after the last one ended.) It also has minimizes to a small floating video so you can see your home screen in the background while you continue to watch movies/videos.
If MXplayer does this also, i might need to give it a try.
The stock gallery app is easily the best for playing videos it supports.
I don't think other players support the LPcore and stuff, and they use waaay too much processing power. I have tried 3rd party ones but they all use more than one core at nearly full freq most of the time. This is why I'm using stock
Feel free to prove me wrong though

Or you can just extract the audio from the video file, making it a whole lot smaller.
Pvstar + app store. I use it a lot to listen to things but lock my phone while doing it..
YouTube videos etc

I use OG YouTube (link below) which have great quality, works with screen off and also let me easily download videos for off-line playback.
Make sure you get version 1 so it doesn't replace YouTube and enable screen off in OG settings.
I hope you guys like it!

Also I use es file explorer. Any video you can just go to and open and you get the option to open as. I choose audio and it only plays audio. I am sure other file explorers will do same.
