Did I brick my phone? - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

So I just recently rooted my phone and was using the wireless tether with no problem.
Today I tried to flash the new caulkulin ROM, but I forgot to backup 1st. Threw the ROM on my phone and booted into CWM. Then I ran the reformat file as instructed, but I have no SD card in my phone, so I think it deleted the rom and everything else on the phone.
Now I am just stuck at exclamation screen. I can still get into CWM. I tried loading an SD card from my evo 3g with the calkulin rom on it, but it doesn't seem to recognize it.
Am I screwed? Any help is appreciated. Thanks

can you get into download mode? Odin something.
Or, try moving a file from your computer to your internal sd and flash that from recovery. any rom will do.

a fresh download wouldn't hurt anything either. try starburst v1.9

Odin is the only way out of this one it sounds like.

I am able to get into download mode.
I found a acs-eg30-stock-kernal-pulled.tar in my recycle bin on my laptop but it's only 8mb. Is this an incomplete file?
The pc I'm on now wont let me transfer anything off it, and I have no internet otherwise.

That's just the kernel, not sure if it'll fix your problem...worth a shot.
My suggestion is that you download (when you get a chance) the Odin back to stock tar, it's like 450 megs, but always good to have to start fresh. It'll make you cwr and root free but that's an easy fix.

Did this work? I also semi-bricked my phone in the same exact way. I'm coming from EVO 3D, so still getting used to CWM and ODIN. So all we do is go back in to ODIN mode and flash the stock-EG30.tar file?
---------- Post added at 03:17 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:00 PM ----------
It worked. Big thanks to Duce HD2 for the tip!

You dpnt have to format system unless ur flashing starburst. Viper and calculyns dont need format system. Just wipe everything.

Just incase you havnt done it yet
flashing that kernel wont help you one bit if you formated system
and youl lose cwm too.
hold on ill look up the tar you want.
edit this would bring your whole phone back to stock so you can start over
would have no root and no cwm

Glad it worked. A good piece of advice is to always have that "odin back to stock" on your pc as soon as it becomes available. It's a life saver.

[KERNEL] T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II Stock Kernel // UVKID

T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II Stock Kernel // UVKID
Finally guys we have root access and with root access that brings goodies, this is one of those goodies.
Explanation
What we have here is a stock boot.img (imagine that Samsung changing things up again on us) pulled from a rooted (via recovery) T-Mobile SGH-T989 (Samsung Galaxy S II).
With this you can recover your phone using ODIN, in the case of a brick or just to return to a factory state.
Initramfs for Developers
I have extracted the boot.img and posted it up for all developers on my github.
Code:
https://github.com/bubby323/stock-initramfs-UVKID-galaxysII-tmo
Downloads
Also to restore you're phone I have a nice little tar file that will take care of the job for you that you can grab from here.
How to Flash
We are going to be using Odin in this explanation to flash the stock kernel to your phone.
Downloads
First you are going to want to start by downloading all the needed files onto your computer and then place them onto your Desktop.
Samsung Kies
Odin3-v1.85.zip
SGH-T989-Stock-UVKID.tar
Process
Once you have everything downloaded and on your desktop, you are going to want to first install kies.
After this is done you should restart your computer for proper driver installation.
Next, extract Odin to a new folder on your Desktop. Leave the tar in the form it is.
Now, open up Odin by double clicking the .exe in the folder you extracted it to.
The most important step is now, you need to put your device into Download/ODIN mode so your computer will recognize it and be able to flash to it. To do this simply turn your phone off completely (or pull the battery). Then you are going to want to use the following button combination to force your device into download mode:
Hold the volume up/down and power button all at the same time.
Click to collapse
Now ODIN should have recognized your device ( it may take a while for the drivers to complete installation so don't panic the first time).
Lastly, we want to click on the PDA button and then search for the SGH-T989-Stock-UVKID.tar we download earlier and placed on the Desktop.
If all of the above has taken place you are free to hit the Start button.
Done!
If all has gone well at this point the flash should be proven successful and your phone should reboot like normal.
If so, please feel pressured to give yourself a pat on the back, that was tough!
Is this method better then slayher?? Method?

This is not a method for obtaining root. It's reference material, and also a way to return yourself to stock if you flash a hosed kernel.
If you already have a stock kernel, I am 90% certain that this will do absolutely nothing.
But having a "return to stock kernel" path AND a fresh initramfs are major milestones for development.
You're not at risk, you should be perfectly fine using slayher's method, but if you screw up, this will be a component of your path back to a working phone. But it's only useful if you screw up, you're a kernel developer who wants a clean initramfs for reference, or need to return your phone back to 100% stock. However, if you're in one of those three categories, this is a critical milestone.
This will put stock recovery back on also right?
[Q] Files from a ROM around?
I've asked this before and I should probably shut it, but if anyone has files from a ROM that works with ODIN or a ZIP file (CWM compat or not), root or unrooted (doesn't matter), or a NANDROID backup, could you let me know?
I got stock kernel up, CWM recov, but broke my actual OS- since it broke, I done flashed /data /emmc /system to empty out my stomach. I really just need everything from / (minus your personal data, of course) - can get it to work with a recovery by myself (and can post that up if I do).
Thanks in advance, bruvs.

Go back to ICS from new OTA Jelly Bean on an unrooted phone

Hello folks,
I am a newbie to the forum but I am constantly on the site checking stuff out and finally decided to join!
Anyways,
I recently updated my phone to the new Jelly Bean OTA released from sammobile and find that the wi-fi calling feature that doesn't work is a big no-no for me. I need it constantly since I am in college and most of my classes have wi-fi in basements that have no cell phone service.
If anyone can help me out I would appreciate it.
I tried downloading the stock rom from sammobile and installing it and I got an error:
"signature failed".
I did factory wipe and partition wipe prior to trying to apply the update. I also put the file as update.zip (no I did not make the file update.zip.zip) in the root of the external sd card.
Any other tips?
DL zip from this post, extract and use Odin to flash.
It's the H2 ICS update.

Start here, it is initial root on a Mac so it will at least give you a walk through of heimdall, I am still looking, there was a thread in here somewhere with what you are looking for. You will do the same steps and tar file as windows I believe, just with heimdall. Please research a little to make sure I am right though.

Similar situation
I'm having a similar issue. I'm on Linux, so no ODIN. I'm using heimdall, though. I had rooted and flashed several different ROMs (mostly CleanROM), and had things generally working. However, now I've tried flashing back to stock, to begin this process, but now my phone won't boot at all. I get the boot logo, the AT&T ball-dropping with the noise (although the noise gets cut off), and then it sticks at the "SAMSUNG" logo with the flashing blue shadow. I've tried various versions of stock ROMs I've found (UCALJ1, UCALJ2, UCALK7), but none complete the boot process. I've also done a factory reset/wipe in stock recovery.
I'm able to get into download mode without issue, and can easily flash TWRP or stock recovery (and enter those). However, something's causing my phone to not boot all the way. Any tips, pointers, ideas ... ?

From what I've read, Odin doesn't work well through VM's. Can't post external links yet, but Google turns up plenty of people having trouble.
Either way, that wouldn't help me. I can flash just fine through heimdall. The problem is either I don't know what to flash to fix my phone (is it boot? is it kernel? something else?), or I don't have what I need to flash. The stock ROMs I've tried all come with system.img, recovery.img, cache.img, hidden.img (what is this anyway?), boot.img, and modem.bin. None of them seem to have a kernel. Could that be what's missing?
---------- Post added at 12:32 AM ---------- Previous post was at 12:23 AM ----------
OK, just got one of Scott's rooted stock de-odexed ROMs to boot (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2070105). At least I'm back in business.
From here, how would I get back to completely stock (for return purposes)? I can flash stock recovery, Triangle Away, and un-root from SuperSU, but that doesn't restore the stock odex-ed version of the ROM.

DL Odin v3.07 on your computer. DL the .tar file to restore your specific device. Put your phone into DL mode and let Odin restore your device.

Same thing happened to me (Couldnt boot into recovery and needed a stock ROM).
This is where I posted, you can find some information there: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2260948
Like "freakboy13" said, "If you can get into DL mode, you're golden." Don't worry it just takes patience and you have to keep trying.
1. First, you want to find a stock ROM only (normally 836MB zipped and around 1.42 unzipped)
2. Make sure you're using a domestic ROM, not International and make sure you're using your model number. Do you have AT&T? if so search for - SAMSUNG SGH-I317. If not search for the one you need.
3.Flash it using Odin. I used Odin 1.87 I believe, I didn't have to use 3.07.
4. Let us know how it goes. I had to do it twice and it worked so be patient.

No...you are "NOT" bricked.....you have a software brick only.
These fine members above me have you going in the right direction.
Make sure you thank them once you get the device rolling again....g

This is a tutorial on how to use the fastest and simplest way back to stock aka Emegrency Firmware Recovery.
This is accessed via kies.
You should do a bit more reading before attempting to use odin. Using odin is not for newbs. Dont just dl apps snd flash stuff with out understanding whats going on. Mobile odin goomanager is great, just know whats actaully going on.
What you a should do is go back to stock via efr. Heres my guide with pics.
