KiK Messenger permanently broken - Windows Phone 7 General

Well no idea how this happened nor do I expect to find an answer here but thought I'd share just in case someone else has the same problem.
After a series of re-installing some games and apps I found Kik Messenger's UI to suddenly break (see screenshot for details).
This as you can imagine renders KiK useless and cannot be resolved by battery pulls, soft resets or removing and re-installed the app. I've tried all these in various combinations. KiK support is aware of the problem and surprisingly claim the issue cannot be resolved with a hard reset though I beg to differ. I think some reg keys may have become corrupt.
Anyway hopefully no one has these issues, just thought I'd share.

I would wait for the update that is "supposedly" coming. Apparently mango introduced some problems with kik and you seem to have gotten hit with a much worse bug than what is normal (normal being messages not coming though until the app is on, etc). If you really want try a hard reset but honestly it will probably get fixed in the next release.

Omnia 7 push notification error

Right after I followed Microsoft "solution" to install the February update by removing all media and apps, the update installed fine but now after I reinstalled my apps the toast notifications doesn't work anymore , whenever I enable push notifications in any app it gives an error saying that opening notification channel has failed or error connecting to notification server..
Is there any solution for that because realy, my Omnia 7 started to become a headache since the February update thing, and I realy feel microsoft is not doing the minimum effort to solve these issues...
Regards.
i have the same problem, initially i thought it was the apps fault, but after playing around with the apps i'll say i can reproduce this bug. removed all apps before patch. i really don't want to have to do a hard reset.
Help?
Is anyone else getting this? This worries me ahead of updating my Omnia!
Same issue here .
This is the first Samsung phone I have owned. At this rate it will be the last. I remember months back people saying "at least if MS is controling updates Samsung can't mess it up".
Seems the Samsung devices are having their fair share :|
As usual Windows Phone Support is suggesting a hard reset, it's like we're supposed to do one of these everyday .
I'm glad that I ignored the Feb. update. What a DISGRACE.
I just hope all is OK when the bigger update is ready.
So how many times realy do we have to hard reset our phones till we get them working right!!!! such an answer is not satisfactory, i wanna know why the phone is behaving like that, because I started to get the feeling that a hard reset is an integrated part of WP7 that microsoft is so ashamed to confess it !!!!!!!!!!

at least they are aware of the problem. If you perform a hard reset can you post the outcome? Seems many are having this. Thanks.
I'm not performing a hard reset, I know how this will go. First you hard reset then everything works for a few days, then Live tiles randomly stop working, then push notifications randomly stop working then you have to perform a hard reset to get them working again.
It's been like that since launch and they're not acknowledging the issue since they never spoke of a patch for it.
I'm not doing a hard reset neither, I'll see if the Nodo will make a difference, oh wait, what??? Do I hear Microsoft saying that Nodo will need a hard reset as well before I set it up????

true hard reset is a bs advice. Not even worth to be called an advice, i pointed the support to the thread on create.msdn.com where they discss that push stops working or will be delayed and told them hardreset doesnt fix anything. They said they will look into it. So hopefully they are serious, since they never respond when people report that push doesnt work on their windowsteamblogs.
Does a softreset temp fixes the problem? And do you get no push at all? Or hourly poll?
Soft reset doesn't do anything. Live tiles and push notifications work for 1st party apps of course (email, people, xbox live, etc.) but don't work with any for 3rd party apps.
Same here, it's only affecting third party apps and soft reset is doing nothing...
Yeah just noticed my push is indeed broken too and soft reset does nothing. Before the update push used to break a lot and a soft reset temporarily fixed it. Now it just stays broken. However with text me I do get the toasts on a polling interval of like 20 minutes after it was sent. Which is strange.
Anyway, im not hardresetting. Its a waste of time, lets hope it will work with nodo again. Otherwise i guess there is no choice
even stranger. It fails to open channels yet toast still works on my omnia. On mobile.twitter.com/florymessenger the second post these guys from flory said they had the same problem and that a hardreset did fix it. Pff its really really bad
A hard reset is the dumbest answer they can say, it's as if they don't wanna do their job finding a fix and just asking us to waste our time installing all these apps again!!!!!
I realy realy feel being humiliated by this response from microsoft, a 10 years old can tell you if you have a problem with your phone, just hard reset it to restore it to the factory original state!!!!!
...same problem here. I was wondering why my ebay app didn't alert me anymore...
maybe just spam the winphonesupport and ask when push will be fixed if there are enough people complaining they will take the problems serious.
My toasts work but are still delayed for 20 minutes, soft reset fixes it temporarely but after an hour, the push come in delayed again...
however apps like send to wp7 just give me an error failed to open notification channel every time... and are not functioning.
My 3rd party live tiles rarely update anyway and i haven't even installed the update.
My 2x weather tiles are rarely correct. (i don't have 15+ either)
Noob question but "toasts"? I get push..

[Q] Random Crashing?

So I have had the note 4 (retail version) for a few weeks now. It is quite nice being no root.
The only issue I have started to see is randomly when I unlock my phone there will be a crash report with just a picture of my lockscreen and nothing else. Today I attempted to go into my contacts and it crashed 4-5 times until I waited for a few seconds then finally got in. Has anyone else experienced these issues before?
I have not loaded any apps that are out of the norm, I am fairly tech savvy as I deal with technology for my job. I haven't yet had time to try a full factory reset on it as I also use this as my work phone (I own it though).
Yes I'm getting many crashes at this point and it's very aggravating. First it was Contacts, then other apps including Pandora, a music app, Gallery, and one other I can't remember at the moment. It happens many times per day now (probably about once per hour), though isn't fully predictable yet. Audio has also begun cutting out periodically when streaming music over Bluetooth. I've wiped cache and done a factory reset, but neither has produced a change.

Hmmm, anyone else having issues with this? Wondering if a few bad phones went through the line. I've had quite the busy weekend dealing with being in a accident and such so i haven't wiped my phone to see if that affects anything.
I've been getting the occasional Contacts crash, for reasons still unknown to me. I haven't had anything else really going on though. I've had my phone since December.
Though slightly related, I did have a strange behavior last night where the phone screen would not timeout and turn off on its own, even while on the lock screen. A reboot fixed that. I've never had that happen before.

From what I have been reading in other forums, the " unfortunately contacts have stopped " has to do with google+. This issue just popped up recently and is happening on various devices and different carriers. So it's not just vzw Note 4. Disable or Uninstall updates seems to work. Hopefully the issue will get resolved with a Google+ update.

It's quite interesting how Google+ has been causing issues. I came from the Lg G3. Google+ and Verizon's app did not like each other and would crash constantly until google+ was disabled.

Keyboard lag/touch input problem while typing

Does anyone's S6 edge have this problem where you are typing a text, at least 10 words long or more, and the screen don't recognize touch input just once, but it happens every 15 to 20 words? Its freaking annoying and I've since switched to the google keyboard and this problem don't happen as much, but the problem is still there, its caused me to misspell at least 7 words so far that the keyboard has auto corrected. This is so damn annoying and I hope I'm the only one that has this problem that way I can take this phone back and get it replaced.
I guess I'm the only one
Happens to me sometimes, but not all the time. It's probably a RAM problem. I usually clean/close some opened apps with Cleanmaster to prevent lag. Hope the next update will fix memory management problem.
I'm on Android 5.1.1 and it supposedly has fixed the RAM issue and the problem still exists. I don't think it's a RAM issue. I think it's a software issue that when you type too fast it stops recognizing the presses. Hapes mainly with the backspace key. If I tap that button like 20 times it will stop pressing it no matter how hard I press.
I want to say this is a Edge thing not a S6 thing.
Try a different keyboard from play store, also try closing apps in background.
I haven't noticed the ever on this incredible phone.
Running stock no root yet, with 3 pages of apps disabled.
Pp.
I apologize for resurrecting this thread but, I've been searching for a while with no avail. Since I've upgraded to 5.1.1 I've been experiencing this issue. Has anyone in the time of this thread found a possible fix for this?
I've tried multiple things, maybe going to have to resort to cleaning up with a factory reset.
This phone is so beautiful, yet functions like a POS, minus the camera. It just sits on desk collecting dust. I too have the aforementioned issue, along with dozens of others. First phone I've ever regretted buying.

New recalled Note 7 - Issues with Media/Lag/Wifi/Heat

Hey all,
I'm becoming increasingly frustrated with my Note 7 (recall replacement one).
1. It lags like HELL! I've done all the animation scaling off/force GPU rendering etc, but I shouldn't have to. Just a simple thing like pulling down the notification bar noticeably lags every couple of times.
2. I use Android Auto, which I always have to reconnect manually to use (never did on the S7).
3. When listening to Spotify over Android Auto, I occasionally get stutter/glitches in the sound. Once the glitch was so bad the phone froze and it had to be reset.
4. The thing gets hot. Annoyingly hot, even if I'm just browsing Chrome, or reading G-mail etc. It's not like I'm gaming!!
5. WiFi is very sporadic. The connection is rock solid, but often it will be downloading an app...sit at 100% of download and progress no further. This happens quite frequently.
With all the above, (bar number 2), none of it applied to the pre-recalled Note 7.
I'm frustrated to say the least. Does anyone else get any of this whatsoever? I can't go through not having a phone again, or sending this for what Samsung will insist on a repair. This phone is jinxed and I'm gutted.
Any suggestions (bar a hard reset haha) will be greatly received.
PS. I have disabled loads of apps with the AppDisabler to try and help it along but I think there's an issue with the RAM or some of the internal modules (at a guess). Thanks all
I have just managed to reduce the lag quite a bit by uninstalling Samsung Good Lock (which was forced upon me earlier today)! I liked it, but serious lag creation!
Did you use Smart Switch to change phones? I've found quite a few apps don't like to be transferred. Android Auto apps don't move right via Smart Switch and I had to uninstall/reinstall them.
Be careful what you disable. Some of Samsung's seemingly benign system apps are called by other apps and if they don't respond are constantly polled. That could cause a lot of background processes and may be a source of your overheating. My pre-exchange phone did what you're describing the first couple of days after I set it up. It would maybe once or twice a day get blocky when scrolling as if something was running in the background. The (U.S.) PH1 update made it go away. But we're S-820 in the U.S. and I think you guys are Exynos. So different problems different solutions.
Thanks for your reply Barry. Actually not Smart Switch, but I let it restore my 100+ apps from my previous Note 7 (near the end of the initial set up). The apps were downloading but strangely, every so often nothing was happening after they'd reached 100% downloaded, just before "installing..." (over WiFi). I cancelled that specific app and the restore continued (this happened over and over). Turning WiFi on and off sorted it temporarily but I couldn't download more than 3/4 without this really strange issue.
I also observed the longest lag ever! I went into the OS update screen, pressed update and the device didn't respond. 5 mins later while doing something completely different, the update screen popped up about 12 times (as I'd pressed it 12 times 5 mins previously). This happened again after a reboot too!
Now, I've just bitten the bullet and performed a hard reset. This time the WiFi seems great, although now I'm speculating that it was getting stuck at 100% post download perhaps because the security thing was having trouble scanning it for malware prior to install.
I also take your note re:disabling stuff! I'm going to do something unheard of and just try it stock for a bit and see how it goes. For such amazing hardware, the fact my note 3 was running 10 times smoother means something drastic is going on. I hope this hard reset is the end of it!
Chances are the hard reset won't do anything, though I hope you have better luck than I did. I went through three phones (on my 4th). I did the hard reset as soon as I picked up the 2nd handset and onward before I did anything with the phone. Sadly you should not have to disable anything, the phone should just work for 900.00. Some will say otherwise.. Wi-FI is good for me but the reception is garbage. On various phones with T-MO including other android devices that colleagues have - they get 4/5 bars and usually double the download speed on Speedtest. The head I had on the first I don't get as bad on this one. But the lag I do...
Did you get the update from your provider as well?
I just picked up my replacement Sprint Note7 today so not much time with it though seems identical except 1 small issue. I had my first Note 7 rooted, Viper4Android and Dolby Atmos flashed along with Xposed and it worked flawlessly. The replacement Note fails with binary invalid using the exact same odin version, Sun7 systemless root etc that I have on my pc from the first Note 7 and the second Note 7 was given to me not updated, in other words its on the exact same firmware as the first one!
I am very proficient with rooting, adb, etc and this has me baffled.
Has anyone successfully rooted a replacement N930p that came with PH9? using freeza's guide?

Yea disabling seems like a great idea at first but it actually creates problems. I run it completely as is except uninstalling the preloaded games. Didnt disable anything. Disabling stuff caused massive lag on my note 5 and same with note 7.
Thanks chaps.
I've gotta say, the hard reset has made the world of difference. Which to me is strange, I've never had to hard reset a new device, but it's done the trick.
Regarding the disabling of services, there must be *some* that are safe to disable? I agree if you're tinkering with potentially integral things like S-Voice it's not a good idea. But then stuff like OneDrive surely that's okay? Maybe, things like the Disabler package are a bad plan. You can disable software by default without it, but only certain apps. Maybe that's why Samsung prevent the disabling of certain bloat...?

I only disable the useless apps, such as all the Microsoft bloat (OneDrive, Excel, Word, etc), Facebook (and all its services), and any Carrier bloat.

That's cool. I have no interest in Gear VR.
I have heard somethings about latest version of chrome causing batt drain, could possibly contribute to lag also, I cant tell much as I am expecting my note 7 exchange, but I have seen some posting about it
Have no problems when I used package disabler and chose "disable all bloat"...but after doing that, I looked through the list and enabled around 3 to 5 that I thought didn't need disabling.
No problems since.
Oh...that option doesn't disable facebook, messenger, hangouts etc. So if you don't use those, you need to add them.
Thanks all. Well, after all that, and a hard reset my phone is running perfectly again. Then, this morning I received this from Oculus...
"We recently pushed an Oculus Software update that has inadvertently caused some people to experience phone performance issues."
I haven't put my phone into my Gear VR since the hard reset and I can almost guarantee it was that blimmin thing. Samsung have also updated their Good Lock app to remove lag yesterday!
Damn you Oculus!
Oh..and strangely, the first few hours I got the phone..it got pretty hot...especially since I was using it while charging. I turned off fast charging and no difference. Anyways I just cooled it down w the aircon now and then.
Long story short, it doesn't get hot anymore.
Maybe it's because I used package disabler snd greenify...but whatever I do...Even while charging..it barely gets warm...
Shrugs

Yea they always get very hot for the first few hours while installing all the new apps! I'm not sure you need Greenify these days do you, since android tends to close apps that are not in use (giving you the same options as Greenify)?

This. I just spent two days doing that and its like a totally different phone. I started a thread highlighting my experiences.
i am quite annnoyed with the lag too. it's nothing too bad, but there's noticeable keyboard lag, and whenever you go into settings to search for something, it takes like two seconds to load. i don't even think this is a case by case situation here, this phone just isn't as fast as a oneplus 3, lg g5 or iphone 7 plus. again, it's not terrible, it's just not the fastest or smoothest.

Slight pauses/stalls noticed while typing or scrolling.

It seems to be noticed mostly with keyboard. And never lasts more than a second or 2 at most and then starts working again. It's such a short pause it's hard to notice unless you are really interacting with the device a lot for awhile like typing a really long message or doing a lot of scrolling. Could easily never be noticed since the pauses are rare and only a second or maybe two and then it's back to normal. I suspect a real update that isn't one of these patches with maybe some kernel optimizations and CPU optimizations will fix it as it seems to be related to something with the CPU or GPU tuning maybe even.
Anyhow if anyone else is noticing such a thing please reply and confirm I'm not alone....it's not biggie, but if I am doing a lot of texting it does become more apparent and annoying...rarely notice it just scrolling on a web page as I read as I probably miss most of the pauses as they happen easier than when doing a lot of typing...basically disrupts flow less then.
I should add the keyboard pauses are pretty much identical whether I use Gboard or swiftkey. Pretty sure any will do it as I get exact same pausing when scrolling around web pages.
I have to add that this gets more annoying the more I encounter it. I suppose it's about once per 500-1000 characters or so...but pretty random so maybe a lot more or less. Just not rare enough to no annoy a few times a day if you are sending lots of messages!
Guess I am the only one noticing this? I hadn't started fresh from the get go....I did bring over all the things from a Mate 9...settings and apps and data and all...but doesn't seem related to any app or anything in particular. Just minutia I think I have noticed in the custom ROM realm that can happen if you get a kernel that isn't optimized well. Somehow guessing it will be gone next update...but L29 first real major optimization update seems to be slow to come. Any word on official Euro launches anywhere? I could see a majore L29 update push setup for something like that when it happens.
Count me in. Typing with swiftkey is better but still got typing issue here and there
Swiftkey is doing same things and so does scrolling...jist more rare with scrolling seems most common in the Google messenger app. I may resest after update...but if my case is unique I figure it's just related to me always restoring messages and such in some apps even if I start fresh. No reason that shouldn't work though. Had always worked on Mate 9.

I don't. Only reason some of that restored this time around was due to the Huawei device migration regime. To me that should work if it's on offer...even if you skip at generation like I did from 9 to 20. It went off without a hitch with only annoyance being it rewrote the pictures and other documents to the 20 X with a new last modified date of when the copy was happen rather than like when picture was taken or last modified. It's still in metadata for library type browsers...but I can't stand the Apple style library browsing regime for some types of files and documents.
Anyhow there is no reason the google messages app should have keyboard interrupting like I am seeing. I have seen chrome stall it's scrolling in similar short pause sort of way also though and it has started fresh. So have to assume it's a combo of things that are partially some lack of optimization in this latest L29 build. Really noticing as I write this it's not happening here...so it's also what app you are typing in specific even. May try the stock messenger and reset messages as I do andaybe return later and see if that helps.
I mostly got this issue with Facebook Messenger, sometime in forum post
