Has anyone been able to install Swype on their tablet? I purchased the Acer A100 tablet today and have not had any luck.
I did a good amount of research this today, and have learned that it took a few months for Swype to correct the bugs for a few other Honeycomb tablets, but they said they were not going any futher. Oh well, I'll continue with the SwiftKey app. Thanks.
Kinda got it to work
Hey, i just did the nooby thing of copying my swype apk file from my infuse that has the latest updated version like 3.26.blahblah to my tablet and installed (no root on the tablet) and boom. works perfectly fine. it doesnt do the special repositioning but its defiantly not all low ressed out of proportion and its skin it all black when it doesn't look like that on my phone. it is a bit big however (same size as the stock keyboard) but i find swyping in landscape much more comfortable then the stock or the split design swift key has.
have you guys tried slide-it keyboard? works pretty much like swype.

Eeehhh i tryed it a while back when google had there ten cent app deal amd i really found it like a watered down version of swipe with a less appealing skin and not near as good predictions.

There I'd this bluetooth keyboard that is on gear xs and was wondering if anyone knew if the evo would support it since its hid. Oh and I'm running cyanogenmod 6. Just google gearxs mini bluetooth keyboard.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
while i dont know for 100% sure i dont see why evo wouldnt. it looks like it is just a standard bluetooth 2.0 device which should work fine.
I recommend the freedom pro keyboard with the driver downloaded from their website. It works great on all programs. I do not believe that the evo can use the HID format, however. Use SIP format. Follow the directions on the keyboard website.

Seen the freedom pro and don't really like the size of the thing. That's why I wondered about the mini keyboard I mentioned earlier. Small and fits in your palm

EVO has no HID support unless you use CM6 rom.
he is using cm6 thus why i dont see a problem
I haven't heard anything about the keyboard the OP mentioned, but I did read a tweet that said the Ipazzport Bluetooth Keyboard, which is very similar to the one the OP mentioned, does work with CM6 on the N1, so I would say there is a good chance it will work on the EVO. Here is the link to the Ipazzport:
http://www.amazon.com/iPazzPort-BLU...D-SIZED/dp/tech-data/B003URPPY6/ref=de_a_smtd
BTW, when compared with the keyboard in the OP, I think the Ipazzport is a much better buy. The Ipazzport is slightly more expensive, but it has backlit keys and has built-in media player controls.
I was going to order the Ipazzport but then I saw this which suits my needs better since it includes a trackpad (no need for a separate BT mouse):
http://www.amazon.com/ProMini-Wirel...1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1284666233&sr=8-1
I found one positive review but I have no idea if it will work on the EVO.

He mentioned he intends to, but for the hundreds of others that search and ask the same thing, maybe they'll see it and not post another thread.
Well I went ahead and ordered it since out was on sell and if it doesn't work I'll just use it for my ps3. I'll post what happens.

Alright that's what I wanted to hear cause I know its HID from reading on other forums about it. So only problems should be in landscape that's not a biggie.

Was looking at that yesterday when doing my searches. Gonna have to give the trial version a shot

I bought and returned the freedom pro keyboard for the evo the keys were a terrible layout and nearly all the fuctions don't work correctly on the evo. Hopefully HTC will make something that would work well for this phone
Just received my mini bluetooth keyboard, don't know the brand since there was none anywhere to be find on the box. So my thoughts are..........I like it. Still getting use to the layout, lots of. Accidental m key presses instead of n key. But overall very happy with my purchase. Using it for emulators works very well after a bit of key mapping, was able to comfortably play street fight 4 hyper with all the moves at my disposal. But yea I feel like I made a good buy and for anyone else looking for a descent mini bluetooth keyboard just google the topic its the black one with soft keys.

So i have had numerous phones, iphone, evo 3d, photon, evo, epic. alot of the latest and the 2 stock keyboards that come with this phone I hate. I dont like to use swype and the samsung one is just a headache to use, so was wondering if you know of any good (pref. free) keyboard apps. Something simple and quick that works well.
Thanks

I was once asking same question and I have tried I think all keyboards out there, but with my big fingers I still couldn't find one that I could text easily with until I found the original HTC keyboard ported to this phone.
Trust me, I can type really accurate and fast in portrait mode with it. IMO Swype and the other slide keyboards suck. I want control of what I want to write, and the HTC keyboard is perfect.

every one settles in and finds there favorite. i personally like Better Keyboard. it used to be on the google market but now its on the amazon app store. if you have the amazon app on your phone search "better keyboard 8" or here is a link to there website http://amzn.com/B005HZJ0QS
so thanks distant. so far loving the HTC keyboard. its responsive. simple and clean.
htc ime mod and swiftkey x are both very good.
Tried everything and settled with "SwiftKey X" hands down due to its predictions technology. It will predict your next word before you lay a finger on it.
swifty key is the best IMO
saves you ton of keystrokes
instead of just predicting words as you type, it actually predicts words that you'll be typing next (using past text and facebook notes you typed)
Thumb Keyboard is best if you're a grammar nazi.
It auto corrects "Im" to "I'm" and it's a hassle to hold down whatever button it is to select the "'", so yeah. Oh, and Thumb Keyboard also has tons of themes (like 30 of them). It's a paid app, but I got it on Amazon one day when it was free.
+1 for thumb keyboard. I personally don't like "smart" keyboards, and thumb keyboard is perfect for me. As long as you're close it will correct perfectly, is highly configureable, has many good themes, and let's me type quickly and efficiently. I originally bought it for my Acer iconia, needing a new keyboard solution, and love it on my phone too! Their split design works great on our device, the arrow keys are handy, and I can say from experience that the developer will work with you.

lol i doubt i corrects everything
what about if u use slang when u text?
but with thumb keyboard, u still have to type out all the letters basically? or does it have predictions too?
Well you can add slang and then it will correct it. OK it corrects like 99%. Still, its awesome. Good themes and options.
I've been a swiftkey X fan for a long time, great keyboard. But I've been using thumb keyboard for a couple of days now amd it's definitely faster/responsive than swiftkey. So for me thumb is the choice atm.

I too got it from amazon, never installed it ... after reading this I tried it and it SUX...
Lol, just kidding. I like it,been using it for about 20mins, this far here is my quick impression:
Thumb Keyboard vs. Swiftkey X
Thumb is better at auto correction
Swiftkey is slightly better at prediction, reason for advantage is because it predicts before typing, however thumbk gives more predictions as soon as you start typing.
Overall: they are both good but I give an edge to thumb keyboard especially if you own an Android tablet ... winner thumb keyboard
I ran across this keyboard a few days ago. I thought I'd share
I am REALLY liking it so far; one of the reasons I went with this phone is because of the large screen. I was hoping that it would be easier on my hands; I'm dealing with an illness that is effecting my ability to use them. The layout using this keyboard definitely enhances that aspect to the Nth degree!
I believe that just because it fits so many more keys onscreen most people will find it more useful than the standard keyboard layout.
Its layout will take some getting used to but I am surprised how fast and intuitive it is to use right away.
So far the best $2.39 I have spent on an app.
here is a screenie of the portrait keyboard I use:
How can you use that keyboard it covers your entire screen lol

Yay at first was like . .uhhhhh ... but then i just tried it and then was really surprised at how easy it was to use. hehehe
I've been using this on my rooted nook dinner it was a daily give away on Amazon over a year ago, awesome on the 7 inch screen, but not as much on my then evo and now my s3. Awesome app though

I'am a terrible texter, no doubt, But I'm frustrated by the fact that the lowly iphone has better detection capabilities than my Super Awesome Galaxy S3. I have tried all keyboards on the android market, some free, some paid for and there is no comparisson witth the touchscreen sensibility/recogniztion on the iphone, which I come from.
Any of you experts can tell me if in fact the hardware used by the iphone as far as touchscreen is superior than that of the Galaxy ???
I hate the Iphone and its closed architecture. Not even a "Jailed Broken" Iphone is better than any android , rooted or not,
But when it comes to the keyboard, I can't believe the iphone is better.
have you tried swiftkey? you probably have if you've tried so many. i found it a couple years ago and havent used anything else since. excellent keyboard
The built in android keyboard, Kii keyboard are two I've been using for some time now. There are many keyboards available that you haven't yet tried possibly.

I will second this. SwiftKey is my favorite android keyboard and nothing comes close for me. Once you familiarize yourself with it, I think you could love it!
I absolutely love the note 2 keyboard that enewman17 made. The top row is all numbers. It also learns after using it. All you have to do is type the first 1 or 2 letters and the suggested words pop up. I text my wife a sentence in about 4 or 5 keystrokes.
Minnum! This highly anticipated keyboard has finally hit a beta release for us backers So has anyone else given it a spin yet? If so, what are your initial thoughts?
Personally, I love this keyboard! It works so much better than I ever thought it would. At first, I thought, "Oh, it's just another one of those new ideas that looks cool and works well on video but won't translate well into real world use. There's no way it can be so accurate with all the keys mashed up so close together!" Boy was I wrong! :victory: The keyboard is amazingly accurate and works extremely well! The prediction is mind boggling; seeing as how close these keys are together and it still gets things right
Sure, there are a few things I would like to see changed / improved / added, but it's still only a beta! And it's this good already! :highfive: I'm looking forward to seeing how this keyboard will grow and am happily using it now
Thoughts?
*hint hint* if you didn't get to be one of the early backers for beta testing, there is an apk floating around

Same here.
It looks cool but i miss my own language so i cant use it correctly, im back to swiftkey
It takes some getting used to but I am very impressed. The predictions are actually very good. The more I use it end faster and better I get at it. Very impressed and this me commit from a long time swift key user.
Still think I prefer swift key, but thus works surprisingly well.

What happened to this keyboard? The prediction is the best that I have seen and is definetly one of the fastest keyboards to use
